From front page

This traditional pub is located a stone’s throw from Trafalgar Square, and moments away from the iconic Whitehall. Staying true to the historic equestrian roots surrounding its location, plenty of horse and stable-inspired items have been carefully featured as statement pieces which are flattering and timelessly classic. Probably one of the biggest pictures to ever hang on a pub wall is the eye-catching gilt framed painting depicting the royal cavalry charging forward in a “death or glory” scene. Other incredible decorations include sabre swords, H&G logos embroidered onto furniture, atmospheric lighting coming through the ceiling joists, faux climbing plants and even saddles for guests to use for seating. The new, raised, and private mezzanine floor has a tack room theme. It has nearly doubled the capacity of the pub and has created a space for larger functions. The area beneath the double mezzanine is styled like a stable. Here you will see plenty of reclaimed timber, clever ambient lighting, and features such as snaffle bits and leather strapping in the fixed seating details. At the rear of the building, large arched windows let in plenty of natural light which illuminates the Victoriana inspired indoor garden area with honed limestone flagged flooring and a large botanical planting installation. The climbing ivy blends the ground floor area with the open mezzanine above. Although it’s been around for hundreds of years, the equestrian style still ranks high on the trend radar as its timelessly classic meaning the Horse & Guardsman’s design will remain popular for many years to come. horseandguardsman.co.uk

Since Covid restrictions have eased the pub has gone from strength to strength and we envisage many years of growth out of the business. The pub has been designed in a way which means it will never be dated and will always be known as an iconic London pub. We have received a lot of great feedback both internally from our family owners and externally from our guests. I have been thoroughly impressed by Guy, Emma, Stella and the team at Concorde BGW and would highly recommend them. To that end we have commandeered their services for two multimillion-pound projects in 2022 /2023!

The Avon Causeway Hurn, Christchurch, Dorset, BH23 6AS Design | Build | Furnish

The Avon Causeway is a beautiful traditional pub with rooms, built in the 19th century as a conversion of the Hurn railway station, near Christchurch in Dorset. An unusual conversion of the decommissioned Pullman train carriage on the front terrace is the perfect place for drinking and dining in a formal setting. Behind the trains retro exterior lies a sophisticated décor, with carpeted floors, cream walls and sumptuous furnishings. Its design is inspired by the 1920’s art deco era which is often associated with black and gold colours.

The lighting is golden as it cascades down onto the dark leather furniture and the carriage celebrates nature in all its gory with a selection of plants and trees that draw nature inside. Elsewhere, the enclosed, partiallyheated beer garden to the rear now benefits from new furniture and decorations. This space is perfect for a more casual drink, especially in the warmer months. butcombe.com/the-avon-causewaydorset

The Lamb Inn The Square, Axbridge BS26 2AP Design | Build | Furnish

The Lamb Inn, set in the heart of Axbridge, is a traditional coaching inn that has adopted a modern countryside design. With traditional wooden beams throughout the building, an open fire and complimentary interior, it has the cosiest atmosphere. The refurbishment has maintained the character of the pub which regulars enjoy. It has bought it up to date without taking away the look and feel of its much-loved character and charm. Original features have been updated in a sympathetic and contemporary way. The Lamb’s new function room, the Skittles Room, is perfect for all kinds of occasions and private hire events, from birthday parties to wedding receptions and meetings. It has a capacity of 30 seated and 50 standing and also offers a HDMI TV and table service available from the upgraded bar and kitchen. The beer garden can be used for outdoor dining with tactfully placed parasols to hide guests from the sun, and the firepit and fairy lights create a magical feel on an evening. butcombe.com/the-lamb

Bo KIRI 56 Peckham Rye, London SE15 4JR Design | Build | Furnish

Bo KIRI Can Bar is a whole new concept on work and play. During the day, it is the perfect shared workspace with power points at all seats, unlimited filter coffee and a selection of over 200 perfect drinks in cans. By night, the lighting gets moodier, the neon’s get brighter, and the music sets the tone. At Bo KIRI there is no bar counter with dispensed products – the concept is that all drinks are served in cans and over 250 are stocked in a large self-serve chilled display. The serving of drinks in recycled cans involves the customers in the site’s sustainability experience. It includes using can crushing stations which enable the used cans to be taken away responsibly for recycling. There’s less waste and energy use throughout the entire process from manufacture to shipping, storage, and consumption.

The exterior colours and signage scheme at Bo KIRI was developed with the clients brand style in mind. Bright coral was intentionally used outside for maximum impact on an increasingly popular and developing area of the high street. It’s the first site of a new business venture for Bo KIRI who aspire to continue expanding the brand with further sites located in neighbouring districts. bokiri.com

The Maris & Otter 113-114 Western Rd, Hove, Brighton BN1 2AB Design | Build | Furnish

The Maris and Otter, named after Maris Otter, a barley used for brewing, is based on Western Road at a long-standing pub site, which was most recently trading as the Revelator. This popular taproom has had a full refurbishment to the ground floor pub but most notably, the 2 flats on the first and second floors have been transformed into apartment style hotel bedrooms with large en-suites and kitchenettes. The pub now has eye catching features, including a hand painted mural of Harvey’s Brewery’s journey. The exposed brickwork adds character in a simple and stylish way, and large accents such as two newly fitted neon signs are on-trend and really brighten the place. Finally, part of the basement has been converted to allow for W/C facilities with a dressing area.

Its new, modern décor style ensures a comfortable daytime food and drink offer with a sports viewing option before the pub transforms to a late night drinks venue. The Bowl 16 Church Road, Almondsbury, Bristol, BS32 4DT Design | Build | Furnish

With a history dating back to the 12th century, The Bowl is a newly refurbished traditional pub and inn tucked away in the picturesque village of Almondsbury, near Bristol. The new signage gives customers and potential customers the subtle yet important cue that there is something different about the place. Behind the front door you can expect thick stone walls, rustic beams and open fires ready to roar in the winter, and a sunny patio beer garden for the warmer months, and 12 cosy bedrooms that will feel like home from home. Each comfortable room is individually furnished to complement the original architectural features uncovered during the restoration of the upper floor. Every room has an ensuite and is equipped with a Roberts radio and tea and coffeemaking facilities. Oversized upholstered headboards, natural wood dressing tables, luxurious curtains, and plush cushions add colour, texture, softness, and elegance to the furniture.

On the ground floor, the pub itself is equally as tasteful, attractive, and elegant. Picture yourself tucked away in this cosy countryside pub sat with a group of friends in a corner booth or next to the fireplace enjoying your favourite item from the menu. The pub takes its name from the bowl shape of the land surrounding the estuary. Parts of this whitewashed-stone inn were originally the three cottages erected in 1146 to house the monks building the adjacent church of St Mary the Virgin. The present building became a licensed inn in 1550 and now, in the restaurant, a little nod to its ancient history is depicted in some artwork that shows three monks around a table.
