6 Concordia’s Hall of Fame Artists

Meet the first three artists who contributed their beautiful paintings to Concordia’s 2019 calendar.

The President’s Thoughts Planning for 2019: With every new year comes another set of goals for the next 12 months. This year I thought our readers would be interested in learning about just a few of the new ideas and initiatives that Concordia has in store for 2019. Our first goal is to strive to be the very best employer that we can be. We know our staff members determine virtually every quality component of our care, and we will work to continue to let our staff know they are very valued and appreciated. Some of the potential employee programs that we are focusing on are the development of more flexible work schedules, sending more of our staff members to school and further enhancing our wage and benefit programs. The second new goal involves the enhanced use of technology to identify areas to improve quality in all aspects of care on the nursing units, in the therapy departments and even in the kitchens. Today we can measure and benchmark just about everything - we just need to harness this technology to find more ways to improve care and operations. One of the “cooler” goals we have for 2019 is to develop at least 10 “smart apartments,” and we plan to have our first test apartment ready soon. The smart apartment that we are experimenting with is designed to track health-related activity inside the apartment and send simple reports to show that everything is normal – or to send support staff if needed. Some of the monitors would determine when and for how long the mattress had pressure on it, and others would identify motion through the apartment or by the refrigerator or medicine cabinet opening. The “Alexa” technology option will also be considered as a tool to page for assistance or to call a family member or the pharmacy. All of this is designed to continue to promote and extend independence with safety always in mind. Of course, we still have some work to do related to our major acquisitions in 2018. We have made great progress at Concordia at Villa St. Joseph in Beaver County – it’s a terrific facility. In Florida at Concordia Village of Tampa, we have already sold 60 apartments and plan to remodel and sell another 75 in 2019. Wishing you and your family a wonderful year and hoping that you meet all of your goals in 2019, too.

Volunteering with Heart At Concordia Lutheran Ministries, volunteers are a vital part of everyday life. Whether they are helping at major events or in administrative offices, assisting with activities in one of our personal care or skilled nursing facilities, delivering mail in our retirement communities or volunteering in many other ways, the work of each and every volunteer is treasured. The story of the late Alice Adams, a dedicated Concordia at Cabot Haven resident and volunteer for nearly 11 years, is a perfect example of the importance of helping others. Alice was born on Nov. 14, 1933 in Shaler Township and graduated from New Kensington High School. She eventually married the late John Adams, with whom she had two children, Charles and Patricia. Before making the move to Concordia, Alice worked at the Heights Prescription Pharmacy in

4 - Faith in Caring

Natrona Heights for 42 years, a career that would later come in handy. “After my father passed in 2007, she made the decision to look at Concordia,” her daughter, Patricia Marciniak, explained. “We went to tour the Havens, and about every other minute we had to stop because someone had recognized my mom and wanted to talk to her. A lot of her longtime customers from the Pharmacy ended up at Concordia, and everyone was so excited that she was coming to live there, too.” Alice put her house up for sale shortly after touring Concordia and was able to move into her Haven apartment soon after. Even though she already knew many of the residents, she made new friends fast. “The residents at Concordia make it really easy,” Patricia said. “Everyone is so open and welcoming. They will invite you to sit with them at lunch or dinner and just get to know you.” Before she moved in, Alice had always been involved in the community, helping out with school activities and fundraisers for her children. Once she joined the Concordia community, she found even more opportunities to stay active. “She always wanted to be busy and couldn’t just sit and do nothing,” Patricia said. “At one point she was on a Ducky Tour in Pittsburgh one day – and then in a hot air balloon the next.” In addition to staying active, Alice found countless ways to help her community. She was a member at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cabot, volunteering as a Eucharistic minister from 2002-2015 by taking communion to shut-ins and residents in skilled nursing facilities. In addition, she played a large role at the Church’s annual picnic by baking and donating

pies, taking charge of the Country Store fundraiser for five years, sending out raffle tickets and doing anything else she could to help. At Concordia, she painted toy trucks to be donated to children in need at Christmastime, decorated Christmas cookies for Concordia’s Annual Live Nativity, delivered mail and activities calendars, volunteered at Concordia’s Golf Classic and, for about 10 years, volunteered with Concordia Visiting Nurses (CVN). “Alice and a group of volunteers she recruited put together admissions packets for us – and that job is vitally important,” explained Dino Capestrani, Director of Communications for CVN. “Every new patient receives one, and under our licensure we are required to get these packets out with accurate information. It totals to about 100-200 packets a week, and Alice and her volunteers made them all.” One of Alice’s recruits was her friend Marge DiBucci, who has now been volunteering at CVN for about four years. “I met her a few months after moving to Concordia, and we were friends from then on,” Marge said. “We just clicked. She was genuine, caring and always very thoughtful of others – a good person.” After so many years of volunteering at CVN, Alice soon had her own system in place. “She had the production line down pat,” said Eloise Kearse, Clinical Assistant at CVN. “She knew what needed to be done and where everything

needed to be laid out on the table. She had every step figured out.” Alice also got to know the employees at CVN, the

more time she spent there. “She took a vested interested, not just in her volunteer work, but in all of us as well,” said Beth Bollman, former Receptionist at CVN’s Cabot office and current Practice Manager at Concordia Physician Practice. “That’s part of the reason why she took her volunteer work here so seriously. And if you were new, you were getting questioned.” In addition to her work at CVN, Alice also loved to crochet – and found a way to volunteer through it. She went to a Bible study led by Concordia Deaconess Pam Voorman, who told her about Unity Lutheran Community Mission. Unity is located in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh and provides at-risk and underserved youth in the area with life-changing after school programs. Every year, Concordia helps Unity host a Christmas party for the children in the program – complete with donated presents for each child. “My mom wanted to help, so last year she told Deaconess Pam that she wanted to crochet a scarf for all the children, 38 total,” Patricia said. Alice was able to complete 35 scarves before she passed away on Nov. 8, 2018. “I promised her I would finish them,” Patricia said. “So, I made the remaining ones and bought gloves to pair them with. She really instilled a love of helping others in both my brother and me.” Alice’s dedication and heart for volunteerism also continue in those she worked with at CVN. “It was very hard to go back at first,” Marge said. “I miss her dearly every day. We still use her organizational system, and things are running smoothly. She is just missed by many people.” A true gift that volunteers pass on is kindness – something that Alice will always be remembered for. No matter how big or small the job, she and Continued on page 13 March 2019 - 5

Concordia’s Hall of Fame Artists

first in a series

Meet the Resident Artists Featured in Concordia’s 2019 Calendar When we think of famous painters, names like van Gogh, da Vinci, Monet, Rembrandt, Picasso and Warhol come to mind. However, since Concordia’s 2019 Calendar was distributed, the public has been introduced to our own artistic Hall of Fame with the resident artists whose paintings have been featured. Titled “Brush Strokes,” each month depicts a different painting by several of our residents who live at one of our locations. And each quarter, we’ll feature the stories behind the artists in our magazine. January Artist - Carole Flagg Sixteen years ago, Carole Flagg and her husband chose an apartment in the tower building at Concordia Village of Tampa because of the light that spills into her studio. Although he has since passed away, Carole believes that her husband knew this was the best place for her to enjoy each and every day. “He always loved Florida,” she said, adding that the couple even honeymooned there. “When we came to this retirement community it just felt right.” Born and raised in Chicago, her family moved to Scarsdale, NY in her teens. She graduated from Bradford College in MA, having studied Fine Arts. 6 - Faith in Caring

She married very young, and her husband built their home in New Jersey. She never stopped attending classes, even while raising their son, Barry (who lives in Tampa), and daughter, Donna. Carole, who has been painting since she was 8 years old, said art is her passion, and many of her works hang in the public spaces at Concordia Village of Tampa. Her mother loved to paint and provided inspiration for her in every way. “She connected me with teachers and encouraged me to draw,” Carole said. “I first penciled a house and have never stopped.” She works in oil and acrylics mostly, because pastels require a lot of dusting, which she says can cause lung issues. “I sometimes do little thank you gifts in pastels, but when I paint, I am after something beyond the technical approach to art,” she said. “I want to evoke a response in the viewer that is at a deeper level than the visual alone.” When asked how many paintings she has, she replied, “I stopped counting.” Her favorite painter is van Gogh, because of his use of colors.

“I like impressionism rather than realistic style, and his compositions are amazing.” At one point she had her work displayed at three galleries, taught a variety of media and pencil drawing and now, at age 92, she continues to use her “gift.” The grandmother of two said living at Concordia Village of Tampa is a joy. She added that she appreciates the congeniality and helpfulness of the staff and “the lovely people who have become my friends.” “Our past lives and stories unite us together,” she said. February Artist - Ruth Neinhaus “My earliest paintings were in my mother’s cookbooks,” Ruth Nienhaus, our February calendar artist who lives at Concordia Village of Tampa, recalled. “I was around three years old when I scribbled some trees and a house, and my mother saved those.” Born in Washington State, Ruth and her parents moved to Illinois, but she spent most of her youth in South Carolina. Despite her natural talent, she decided to pursue a business degree at the University of Georgia. “I was always drawing and painting, but I needed to make a living,” she said. After the first year there, however, she changed her major to art education and commercial art and was fortunate to study under the well-known Lamar Dodd (The Lamar Dodd School of Art is one of the nation’s largest university programs with more than 1,000 majors). For two years after graduation, she taught art in high school and evening classes in adult education in Savannah. She came to Tampa in 1966 and met her late husband, Richard, at a teacher social club. He was an electrical engineer who spent 30 years as

a professor at the University of Florida. They were married for 46 years before he passed away last September. “He loved this place,” she said. They had heard a lot about it and knew several residents, so when they made the move in November of 2017, they were prepared to enjoy the worry-free lifestyle. And the surroundings became inspiration for Ruth. “I walk the beautiful grounds with my pet poodles, Mandy and Chardin,” she said. (She has named all of her dogs after painters, including Monet and Matisse.) “And I find many interesting plants, flowers, statues, birds, buildings and small gazebos as subjects for my paintings.” Her favorite creation she called “The Birdwatchers 3.” It is the only painting her husband is in, and the “3” indicates that this was the third copy she finished. She explained that most painters create more than one copy of their work. She expounded on the many opportunities Florida offers for artists: “The Florida Watercolor Society and lots of local art clubs make this a paradise.” Having shown her work at a gallery years ago, she still teaches at age 81. Ruth has a daughter in Colorado, sons in Tampa and Chattanooga, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

March Artist - Sandy Bauer Oftentimes in life we find ourselves at a crossroads, unsure of what’s ahead of us and how we could possibly move forward. The trials and tribulations we face every day can have resounding March 2019 - 7

impacts on our lives. Great challenges can produce great beauty. For Concordia at Cabot resident artist Sandy Bauer, the word trial does not exist. Coming to Concordia nearly eight years ago, Sandy was faced with one of the most difficult challenges anyone could imagine. A stroke occurred in the left side of her brain, leaving the right side of her body completely paralyzed. This devastating setback came with a long list of new challenges, especially for someone who was formerly righthanded. One of seven children born in Pittsburgh, Sandy moved to Cabot with her family at a young age. Meeting her husband later on, Sandy began working for Moonlight Mushrooms, the only underground mushroom farm in the United States. She would work there for nearly 30 years. “I grew up in the area and eventually had a family member who introduced me to Concordia,” Sandy said. After her stroke occurred, Sandy already knew of Concordia’s excellent Outpatient Physical Therapy program and came to Cabot for rehabilitation. Undergoing nearly five years of treatment, she elected to move to Concordia permanently. “Everything about Concordia is my favorite,” she

8 - Faith in Caring

said. “The other residents, the staff, the activities everything.” The remarkable part about Sandy’s story however, is not just her courageous spirit and ability to overcome any challenge in her path, but also her ingenious artistic ability. As part of the 2019 Concordia calendar, Sandy’s artwork was chosen to be featured not once, but twice - her illustrations gracing the front cover (eagle) and featured for the month of March (lion). What’s even more impressive is that before coming to Concordia, Sandy had never painted. Gayle Funk, a Concordia at Cabot Activities Assistant and long-time friend, introduced her to painting during her time in therapy. “It just kind of started,” Sandy said. “Everyone else was painting and I thought, I guess I can paint a little bit too.” Her artistic process is simple; working with Gayle, Sandy chooses a picture she likes, most often something from nature - and Gayle gets to work

sketching out the image. “Sandy is definitely a perfectionist,” Gayle said. “She knows exactly what she wants and how to get there. I just help her draw.” Teaching herself to paint with her left hand, Sandy illustrated a collection of artworks that range from landscapes to animals. She gives her finished pieces to her friends and family. The favorite pieces in her collection, however, she saves to decorate her room in the Lund Care Center. “Sandy encourages people,” Gayle said. “She tells them to give painting a try even if they’re just starting out. She encourages me to keep trying new things every day.”

Highpointe Wedding Bells As one of the largest nonprofit Aging Services Networks in the country, Concordia Lutheran Ministries has many stories of residents who celebrate being married for 50, 60 and even 70 or more years. Sometimes, however, new love stories unfold in surprising ways. Highpointe at Rebecca, Concordia’s newest retirement living community in Allison Park, a northern suburb of Pittsburgh, recently hosted a wedding for John Lengel and Pat Whitmer, two residents who met at Highpointe. “I don’t think he remembers it, but I met John having breakfast in the Bistro one morning,” said Pat, who is originally from Florida. “I can tell you exactly what he said to me: ‘Oh, you’ll really like it here. All of the people are very nice.’” John and Pat went through similar experiences - both of their first spouses were cared for by Concordia’s Good Samaritan Hospice. Pat’s husband, Keith, passed away in February 2018, and John’s wife, Ruth, died a few months later. John, a retired US Steel engineering manager who oversaw plants across the country, had stopped going to the Highpointe dining room for dinner, once his wife became ill and was hospitalized. After she died, he started going back to the dining room to make new friends and stay social. “When you’re single, you don’t want to sit at a four-person table alone,” John said. “So I ended up at the same table of eight [with Pat]. We shared meals several nights in the dining room, and one night I told her I wanted to go out for dinner. And she said, ‘Well, I’ll go with you.’ And I guess that was our first date. We didn’t consider it that at the time, though.” What started as a friendship began to blossom into a romance, until the two were inseparable. “We started calling and texting all the time,” Pat explained. “Every day it was ‘What are you doing?

Where do you want to eat? Do you want to run errands?’ We decided that instead of spending all this time wondering where the other one is, maybe we should just get married. I like to tell people I chased him until he caught me.” The two originally planned to get married at Pat’s church, Redeemer Lutheran in Oakmont, with just the pastor and another couple as witnesses, but their plans changed. “People here at Highpointe were so excited and so happy for us when we told them we were getting married,” Pat said. “So we said, ‘Why don’t we get married here?’ So that’s what we did.” On January 2, the couple officially tied the knot

March 2019 - 9

in Highpointe’s dining room (the chapel couldn’t fit all 150 guests). The ceremony was officiated by Concordia Chaplain Duane Voorman, who had also known Pat’s late husband Keith from visiting him in Concordia’s Good Samaritan Hospice and John’s late wife Ruth from calling on her during her stays at Concordia at Rebecca Residence. John and Pat provided the flowers and cake and arranged for Highpointe to cater the event. “It was so nice,” Pat said. “Highpointe and

Concordia could not have done more. They have been gracious and helpful, and Julie [Spirnock, Resident Care Coordinator at Highpointe] was phenomenal as was the entire dining staff in planning the menu and catering the reception.” Instead of wedding gifts, guests were asked to make donations to Good Samaritan Hospice in memory of Keith and Ruth. “I had a longer experience with Good Samaritan than John did, but I just felt that they were so, so good to us,” Pat explained. “The people who work there were just amazing.” To date, the wedding has raised $3,370 for Good Samaritan Hospice and Concordia’s Good Samaritan Endowment Fund, which helps residents who can no longer afford the full cost of their care. “It’s also a tribute to our first spouses, in recognition of them and that we honor their memories,” John said. “There are probably a few people out there who said that we should’ve waited longer to get married, but there are no guarantees in life.” 10 - Faith in Caring

Their fellow Highpointe residents agreed. “The comment that was made to us about having the wedding here, was that with all the bad news in the world, it’s wonderful to have good news,” Pat said. As far as honeymoon plans go, John and Pat are still in the process of downsizing their two apartments to just one, but may take a trip when the weather is warmer. Until then, they can also spend time with their community. “I don’t know if it’s because all of us moved to Highpointe in a relatively short time period, but it seems like we’re very close-knit,” John said. “We have a lot of activities – you can knit, play games, work in the woodshop, whatever you want to do. And we also have a lot of impromptu parties. One night we were sitting out on the patio with a glass of wine with the fire pit going. Next thing you know, there were 20 some people outside with us, bringing their own bottles, just chatting and spending time together. It’s a great group.” If you are interested in learning more about Highpointe at Rebecca and this encouraging community of residents, join us for an Open House on Sunday, March 24 from 1 to 3 p.m. or a Making The Move Seminar & Open House on Monday, March 25 at 1 p.m. On both days, our retirement living experts, including President and CEO Keith Frndak, will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. Current residents will be available to talk about their experience moving to Highpointe, and apartments will be open for touring. RSVPs are recommended, but not required. Concordia at Sumner Expansion: Meet a New Neighbor After years of planning and steadfast work, the retirement living expansion at Concordia at Sumner is well underway, with a projected completion date of June 2019. The new threestory building will add approximately 105,000 square feet and 65 retirement living apartments. Residents of the expansion will enjoy new resortquality amenities, such as a fully-equipped exercise room and multi-purpose room, game room, sports lounge, needle nook and much more to meet their distinctive lifestyle. While steel, concrete, bricks and mortar will make the physical building, the community will be built by those who call it home. Since the new expansion will join the 79 retirement living apartments and 22 villas already on the gorgeous campus, new residents will get to join the already thriving culture of Concordia at Sumner. One such new resident is Beverly Stroll, whose history with Concordia helped her decide it was the perfect place to spend her retirement. Beverly was one of the first to decide to move to the new expansion at Sumner. In fact, she has already selected the first apartment on the first floor and a garage. A former member of Sumner’s Board of Directors, she presently lives in a condominium in nearby Green, a suburb of Akron. Having lost her husband of 59 years last October, she acknowledged, “I am not getting any younger, and I think you know when there’s a need to do this.” She, like so many others, is challenged by the thought of downsizing and plans to use the professional recommended by Concordia at Sumner to assist her. Thankful for the relationship she has developed with Concordia and the fact that she is familiar with the staff and the community itself, she stated, “I wouldn’t go anyplace else. I know where I am going.”

Having represented her church on Concordia at Sumner’s Board of Directors, she is aware of the competitive nature of senior living, but is unwavering in knowing that the “fine people here are trying to do God’s work in God’s way.” As a retired Lutheran elementary school teacher and principal, she was determined to secure her congregation’s involvement and is pleased that one of her best friends has volunteered to serve. “Truthfully, I didn’t need to serve on another board, but I wanted Zion [Lutheran Church, in Akron, OH] to be part of Concordia,” she said. Living in the new expansion promises less work and more fun, and she is looking forward to pursuing interests like swimming, reading and classic movies. In addition to the perks and amenities that come standard at Concordia at Sumner, those who commit to an apartment during the building phase of the retirement living expansion will be able to take advantage of the most generous price discounts in Concordia at Sumner history – an 8% discount on entrance fee options and a monthly fee rate lock for three years. If you would like more information or to schedule a personal tour, please call Director of Marketing Rowena Wilkins at 330-664-1289 or visit us online at www.SumnerExpansion.org for floor plans, pricing and a bird’s eye view of the project from our construction camera. A Simple Codicil Could Leave a Lasting Legacy Wills can be time-consuming and expensive to prepare. However, if one desires to make simple changes to an already prepared will, a codicil may do the trick. A codicil is an addition or supplement to a will, either to add to, remove or alter the provisions of a will. A codicil does not revoke the will, but merely changes one or more parts of the will. If you already have a will but want to leave a lasting legacy to Concordia Lutheran Ministries, consider a codicil. While each will is personalized and formatted differently, an example of language that can be used as a codicil to include a bequest to Concordia is: I, __________________, of _________________ County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, do hereby publish and declare this first/second/third, etc. codicil to my Last Will and Testament dated ___________. I add the following Paragraph number ____. For a Specific Bequest – “I hereby give and bequeath ________ and No/100 Dollars ($DOLLARS) to Concordia Lutheran Ministries Foundation, a

Pennsylvania non-profit organization located at 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023, to support the ministries of Concordia Lutheran Ministries and its subsidiaries.” OR For a Percentage Bequest – “I hereby give and bequeath ___ percent (__%) of my total estate, determined as of the date of my death, to Concordia Lutheran Ministries Foundation, a Pennsylvania nonprofit organization located at 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023, to support the ministries of Concordia Lutheran Ministries and its subsidiaries.” Again, the above are simply examples. A signature and witness page along with an Acknowledgment and Affidavit would also be a part of the codicil. If you desire to add a codicil of any type to your will, please consult an attorney. If you do not have an attorney to assist you in adding a simple codicil naming Concordia Lutheran Ministries Foundation as a beneficiary, we can help refer you to one who will prepare it at an affordable cost. Please contact the CLM Foundation office with any questions at 724-352-1571, ext. 8363 or email at Giving@ConcordiaLM.org.

Volunteering with Heart cont’d volunteers like her make Concordia a better place by simply lending a helping hand. “Since her passing it’s become clear how many people have been touched by her and miss her,” Patricia said. “I got sympathy cards from people I don’t even know who said they knew her, loved her and were touched in their lives by her. I don’t think she ever knew just how many people she made an impression on, because to her it was just what you do – you help people.” Concordia is blessed to have hundreds of wonderful volunteers like Alice every year – and since April is National Volunteer Month, many

of our locations and organizations will soon host volunteer appreciation activities. This year’s theme is “Volunteers Are A Work of Heart,” and the events will honor those who give of their time, talent and treasure to enhance the lives of our residents and staff. Thank you to all our volunteers from the Concordia family. You make a difference every day. If you or someone you know would like to join Concordia’s growing family of volunteers, call the Concordia location or home care office of your choice or message us through the Contact form on our website and ask how you can help.

The Carpenter Defeats Death Submitted by Deaconess Pam Voorman

Then Simon Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus’ head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen. - John 20:6-7 My father was a carpenter. Growing up, the smell of fresh cut wood was as familiar to me as the smell of my mother’s cooking. I cannot remember a time when my dad was not building something, from pieces of furniture to the white picket fence that surrounded our yard. The one consistent thread that ran through every project of his, was his care of his tools. After every use, each tool was inspected for damage, cleaned and carefully put in its proper place. And boy, did we hear it if we failed to return a tool to where it belonged! I share that because in John’s text above, we see a similar careful attention to detail. In the Gospels, Jesus is referred to as ‘the carpenter.’ In Mark 6:2 When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard Him were astonished. “Where did this man get these ideas?” they asked. “What is this wisdom He has been given? And how can He perform such miracles? 3 Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary…” And in

Matthew 13:55 “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?” As the oldest son of Joseph, Jesus would have apprenticed to his father’s trade after his Bar Mitzvah. Until Jesus began his public ministry, he would have spent his days as a craftsman. Sigmund Brouwer, in his book “The Carpenter’s Journey to the Cross and Beyond,” tells us that in Jesus’ time there was a unique signature used by carpenters to let the contractor know that a job was complete. When a craftsman finished a job and would wash up, he would take the towel used to dry himself and fold it in half, and then fold it in half again. The towel would then be placed on the finished project. This was the signal that the work was finished. John 19:29-30 A jar of sour wine was sitting there. So they soaked a sponge in the wine, put it on a stalk of hyssop, and lifted it to His mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished.” And bowing His head, He yielded up His spirit. On the cross, Jesus cries out “Tetelestai!” The payment for sin is complete, the redeeming work is finished. You and I no longer have to suffer God’s wrath for our sin, because Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross has paid the price. It is finished. And to make sure that the message of redemption is fully understood, John tells us “the burial cloth that had been around Jesus’ head … was folded up by itself.” Jesus the carpenter, Jesus the Messiah, Jesus the Savior and Redeemer takes the cloth and folds it, laying it on the finished project. Death is defeated, the carpenter has told us so!

The payment for sin is complete, the redeeming work is finished. You and I no longer have to suffer God’s wrath for our sin because Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross has paid the price.
