Grade 8 Week Without Walls
After we were unable to take our annual Week Without Walls trips the last few years, Grade 8 was more than eager to get out and explore. This year, our trip was to Khao Yai, where students spent 5 days learning about this unique, beautiful environment and our place in it. Throughout the trip, we were fortunate to work with truly amazing people who taught our students all about this special part of Thailand, while engaging in various activities to help them understand what they can do to better protect our fragile ecosystems.
While there were many wonderful moments and memories on the trip, one of the highlights was the Burg Barn Buri Farm, where students learned about eco-printing and how to approach the world, and commerce, in a more sustainable way. This particular day emphasized our role as stewards to the environment and how we can consider the impact we make through business or any other endeavor we choose to undertake. Our students even gathered ingredients right from the farm and prepared a delicious meal for everyone!

Another high point of the trip were the hikes through Khao Yai National Forest, guided by the Environmental Education Center of Thailand. In addition to being fantastic, highly knowledgeable guides, this group made safety their top concern while also ensuring our students had fun. While the weather didn’t cooperate as we had hoped, we all made the best of the situation and still had a great time. Students and teachers alike came away with more of an understanding about how unique Khao Yai is and how important it is for Thailand’s biodiversity. We cannot thank the nice folks at EEC enough for their hard work and dedication to this noble cause.

Being our first trip in a few years, it is easy to see that our Grade 8 Week Without Walls trip was a resounding success. From the ride up, to the farm, to the mountains, each step of the way was memorable and enjoyable. We are looking forward to more fun, successful trips in the future!
