e are thrilled to have started the year back on campus after a long hiatus during the summer and last quarter’s online learning. Things look a bit different with all the health and safety measures put in place but what has not changed is that the Concordian community is as eager as ever to embark on a new academic year. In fact, teachers and students alike have returned with a renewed enthusiasm for learning together.

Graduations are prominently featured in this issue. Just before the new school year started we had the opportunity to celebrate the graduations of our Kindergarten 3, Grade 5, and Grade 12 students, and wish them well on their respective journeys to PYP, MYP, and University! We also have a special feature from our recent graduates who are attending top universities in China where they share how Concordian’s trilingual program prepared them for admission to these prestigious institutions.

We are also pleased to present the new Concordian faculty members to you. During this time international relocation is especially challenging but these teachers jumped through many hoops in order to get to Thailand to teach at Concordian, and for that we are so grateful!

Dear Concordian Community, I would like to begin this message by expressing my sincere and heartfelt gratitude to our parent community for all the support and understanding shown to our school throughout the 2019-2020 academic year, which presented us with some unexpected and challenging circumstances. With your trust and the dedication and professionalism of our teachers, we came together as a school community and became stronger and more united!

We welcome you all back to the 2020-2021 academic year which will be a year of continued cutting-edge education delivered by our high calibre of teachers from around the globe! We started the year very well with a 1,000 students eager to learn and come back on campus after online learning, and our amazing faculty and staff were more than ready to welcome and meet their students! Although we have modified some policies and procedures regarding keeping our learning environment safe, what hasn’t changed is our commitment and motivation towards providing the best learning experience for all of our Concordian dragons!

Our focus this year is to continue providing a balanced approach to excellence in education, immersing our students in a unique trilingual program within a dynamic iB framework where students are given opportunities to apply their skills in relation to real world opportunities.

In addition to demonstrating our Concordian Values, students will develop their research, communication, self-management, social and thinking skills, putting them into practice in a variety of situations. Students are likewise encouraged to develop a sense of international mindedness and intercultural awareness. These lifelong skills are introduced in the Early Years, developed in the Primary Years and then further refined when the students enter MYP and eventually DP! The development of these skills prepares our students to take on whatever life brings them, both the good and the challenging, with confidence and resilience.

COVID-19 may have turned the world upside down, spreading sadness and loss to many communities, shutting down businesses, airlines and triggering economic downturn all over the world, but one thing is certain, learning will never stop!

Let’s focus on making the 2020-2021 academic year the best school year Concordian has ever had as we continue to show our strength as a community who looks after one another, who cares about others and who finds meaningful ways to give back to the local and global community!

Dear Concordians, August was an exciting month at Concordian.

We resumed face-to-face learning and teaching once again. I believe that both students and teachers have looked forward to this time with anticipation, eager to return from online learning and teaching. This is a direct result of the Concordian community being proactive and vigilant in keeping everyone safe and healthy, minimizing the effects in this unprecedented situation facing society today. We did what we ought to do and not what we wanted to do; looking out for the ‘good’ of the community.

What a great start! We do hope that we can resume many of the activities within the safety guidelines and be able to sustain face-to-face learning and teaching for the rest of the academic year.

Starting off the school year with students on campus has been wonderful. A big welcome to our returning students and to the new students joining Concordian. I have heard several students appreciating the fact that we are in Thailand where we have not been overloaded with the pandemic and have been able to carry on a fairly ‘normal’ life. It is nice to hear students appreciating what we tend to take for granted.

Covid, though, has done that. It has made us all reflect and reevaluate what is important to us and to value relationships and other aspects of our lives.

As PYP Guidance Counselors, we provide professional support to the Early Years and Primary Years students to help them develop appropriate social and emotional skills and provide assistance during times of transition, critical change, heightened stress, or other situations impeding student success.

The support we provide includes: - Bi-monthly Guidance and Values lessons in classrooms to Pre-K through Grade 5 students.

Students learn about emotional intelligence, friendship, social competencies, problemsolving, conflict-resolution, coping strategies (when dealing with stress, anxiety, and other strong feelings), body safety lessons, career paths, and school core values.

Counseling Corner

Welcome Concordian students and families!

We are excited to get started on another great school year! Concordian counselors are here to help students navigate through the wonderful and sometimes challenging secondary school years. This year we welcome 17 new students, including returning students re-joining the MYP. We enjoyed meeting and getting to know them during new student and parent orientation, which served to assist all new students through this transition.

To support the well-being and overall development of all students, the MYP counseling services include, but are not limited to, individual and small group counseling, consultations with parents and teachers, crisis intervention, coordination with outside agencies, and classroom counseling during L and N blocks.

This year we are pleased to have Mr. Matthew join the MYP Counseling Department as our new MYP Counseling Intern.

Matt is an alumni of CIS. After completing an internship here several years ago, obtaining his Bachelor’s degree, earning a certificate in Exchange Programs from Germany, and working for a Thai-Australian cultural exchange program, Matthew was inspired to work as a school counselor. He joins us after completing his Master’s degree in Psychology in Scotland.

What does the Board do?

The Board of Trustees is committed to promoting academic excellence and ensuring that the school is maintained to the highest standards. This includes providing a safe and nurturing environment for the students and an educational program that promotes the mission of the school. We provide direction to the school management team in this fast changing-world so that the school can continue to evolve while maintaining Concordian values.

Concordian values are integral part of our guiding principles during the Board’s decision-making process. The clearest example is reflected in the revised school Mission which was a result of lengthy discussions we had back in 2019. While ‘academic excellence’ is first mentioned, it is the strong Concordian values that we emphasized by including terms like moral, intellectual, leadership, dignity, integrity and compassion.

The Early Years has also added a new Thai classroom which provides plenty of extra space for learning activities. Just like all of other classrooms, they have been set up with social distancing in mind. Classrooms were prepared for students and separators were installed to help with keeping students separated in order to help prevent the spread of germs and viruses as the students learn in their classrooms.

School Update

Shortly after the school decided that it needed to close due to the growing fear of the spread of the coronavirus, we knew that it was time to start thinking about social distancing and what changes needed to happen in order to be prepared for when the students returned. The PYP canteen was one of the areas that was a main focus for expansion. Construction began right away and the work was completed just in time for the beginning of the school year.

With student safety and well-being in mind, the school now has a canteen where it is more easily to help with social distancing. Larger tables and dividers have also been added as extra protection for our students.

This year an Art room was also added for our K2 and K3 students. The students enjoy doing the fun, creative projects that are done in class.

O

ver the course of Summer many steps were taken to make our school a better, safer, learning environment. Glass windows have been installed in the hallways outside the grade 4 classrooms where previously it was an open-air space. The stage in the PY Gym has been converted to a new set of changing rooms. The canteen has also been expanded in order to create more eating space for students. As part of our commitment to keeping students healthy during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond, social distancing stickers have been installed on the floors of the hallways, partitions have been installed in the canteen and in classrooms, and sanitizing UV lights have been placed in each classroom which are turned on at night while there is no one in the building. The PY has also installed a number of sinks in the outdoor play areas in order for students to clean their hands. While some of these additions are temporary, others will play a permanent role in keeping everyone healthy and improving school life.

An amazing new PY Music room has been constructed next to the PY Gym. The new music room is more versatile as it has both risers for students to sit and stand on, as well as open floor space where students can sit in groups. A new, moveable, large-screen TV makes the delivery of classroom material more dynamic and allows presentations to occur in multiple spaces. There is also better storage space for musical equipment. Mr. Sebert and Ms. Allen are already finding that this new classroom is having a positive impact on the way students learn music.

We would like to extend a huge congratulations to last year’s Grade 5 students on staging Concordian’s first virtual PYP Exhibition! Having to face so many unforeseen challenges, our G5 students rose to the occasion and persevered to complete the Exhibition, while demonstrating a range of ATL’s and IB Learner Profile Attributes.

School Update

This was a challenging process, which took an incredible amount of hard work and determination. With the guidance of their incredible teachers, support from parents, and collaborative tools such as Zoom, our amazing G5 students inquired into a number of different areas as they explored how people’s interests and passions may lead to discoveries in connection with areas of local and global significance. Students were able to engage in deep learning and generated websites that showed their understandings.

School Update

Grade 5 students completed these paintings inspired by the art of the great masters, in their PYP Art Class. The paintings were intended to be part of the Grade 5 Exhibition 2019-2020, which became a virtual Exhibition during the Online Learning period last school year.

Through the visual arts Concordian PYP Art students learn to appreciate the world around them, by viewing it through different perspectives. Being a creative person gives us skills to look at things from many angles, while thinking critically and questioning what we see.

School Update

W

elcome back to the 20/21 school year. After not having any students on campus since last March, it has been a real pleasure to see our students back at school. Although to keep them safe and meet the requirements from the Ministry of Education to open the school back up, we’ve had to institute some new procedures this school year. While Mr. Laurent has already sent out the new procedures to the entire community, I’d like to highlight a few. First, students and parents must wear masks while on campus with two notable exceptions for students. They don’t wear masks while eating, but they must eat in the canteen where we have clear dividers between each student built into the tables. For safety concerns, they also won’t wear masks for PHE, however, the activities are set up to limit personal contact. Second, field trips for the first semester and possibly into the second semester will be severely limited so we will not have our usual Week Without Walls trips in November. Lastly, while we are fortunate to still participate in sports this year, it will all be tournament based. This means students will practice their sport on campus with only Concordian students and then compete against other schools in a tournament at the end of each season.

Even with these new procedures, our students have been very active. If you have visited the fields and gyms after school, you would have seen that we have a record number of students participating in the various first season sports. Also, we have a number of new student clubs ranging from cooking to assisting the elderly to saving the environment to reading for pleasure that started up this year and both the new and established clubs running at full capacity. fter what we thought was a never ending online learning experience, we are thrilled to see everyone back on campus safe and sound. Firstly, we would like to welcome all new students and teachers to Concordian. We are very happy to have you here.

Secondly, we’d like to remind everyone that there have been many changes made to the school; whether it’s the new partitions, the touch-free handwashing, or the new desk arrangements. We are pleased to say that Concordian has successfully assimilated into a ‘new normal’ lifestyle.

We are sure that some students will feel uneasy about the school’s ‘new normal’ on top of catching up with academics. Don’t worry. There are a wide variety of sports teams, clubs, and a plethora of special activities we have planned for students to enjoy. We really recommend you participate in them! They’re great for relieving stress and maintaining a balanced high school experience.

Of course, it would not be an action-packed school year without our weekly Class Competitions. hese foster class spirit and allow students to take pride in being a part of Concordian’s high-school community. Different grade levels will be able to compete with each other in different challenges, which will help strengthen the bonds between classmates.

In the past, we have had tremendous success with activities such as the three-legged race, the egg throwing contest, various photo competitions, and more. In addition to class competitions, our government will be introducing a monthly bonding activity that allows high school students of different grade levels to interact and compete with each other. They are all based on team-building activities, and will not only serve as a warm welcome to our new students, but also bring our small high school community closer than before.

School Update

T

he beginning of a school year always brings with it many changes, though none more so than these first couple of weeks. August was an incredibly hectic month as we returned to campus and once again to accustom ourselves with classes, classrooms, classmates and staff.

Though we’re back at school, we must also remember what we do outside of it as well — our after school activities and student-run clubs.

On August 18th, the club fair was held after school to attract high-school students to the whoppingTWENTY-FOUR student run clubs. Of the twenty four, nine of these clubs are completely new this year! In fact, the range of club presidents and vice-presidents is no longer limited only to eleventh and twelfth graders — we now have club leaders from the full range of the high-school. It exemplifies the ideals of Concordian; a showcase of our up-and-coming intellectual leaders.

I am pleasantly surprised to learn about the rich culture Thailand has and each day I have opportunities to learn more about it. I am also pleased that Concordian has so many Thai students, support staff and teachers and how important and prominent Thai culture is here at school.

There is such a spiritual and calm atmosphere during that time of the day, hours before the buzz of the work day starts.

I had also founded and participated in some school clubs, sports teams and talent shows, including being an MC and playing roles in musicals on stage. The biggest challenge to me was time-management. I started studying at Concordian International School in 2004. The most impressive things to me about Concordian were its learning atmosphere and trilingual programme. The interaction between teachers and students made the learning very fun, and the ability to speak three languages (Chinese, English and Thai) enabled me to apply to universities all over the world. I have to say it was a great advantage to study multiple languages since a young age.

I came back to Thailand and studied at Concordian International School since Grade 8. The reason I chose China for my higher education was because I would like to learn the language further and my parents have supported me with this a lot. I have loved Chinese literature since I was very young. One of my Chinese teachers, Ms. Li, used to say that we have to do what we love to do since our life is short. This gave me great encouragement to pursue my dream: Beijing University became the best and perfect option.

Furthermore, I learned critical thinking in IB curriculum which focuses on WHY rather than WHAT. IB is inquiry-based study. It allows students to think from different perspectives to find answers, which will help me a lot in my further studies.

Teachers at Concordian always gave me a lots of encouragement. I always strive to be the best but sometimes I failed.

I remember one of my teachers used to tell me, “only compare within yourself, and you will see you are growing everyday little by little”. I am so thankful to my parents, teachers and classmates who supported me and were always by my side. I used to hate failure and hate the feeling of embarrassment, but now I can accept my mistakes and shortages.

Even I fall, I’ll stand up again to face the challenge. I did it, so I believe you can do it as well.

I participated in the ‘School Build Project’ during the time I was studying in Concordian International School which I still remember it very well. We went to a small valley in Tak province in Thailand and built a school in two weeks. The kids there had no facilities and couldn’t afford to go to school. The project was quite a challenge to us since there was nothing at all. We were

Taley Jiraphongtrakul School of Economics, Fudan University Compared to studying in a western country, staying in Asia might be a more economical choice. I like Chinese language and culture, and I believe studying in Fudan University will build a good foundation for my future and bring more opportunities in a competitive environment.

I like computer programming, but I don’t want to be a programmer. Luckily, I had the chance to get to know the economics of computer science during a summer internship programme in Grade 11, which I found so interesting. From then on, I decided to study Economics and take programming as an elective course. It’s cool to be an economist with a computer science background. Another reason I chose Fudan was that I love Shanghai as a city.

I have been studying in Concordian since Grade 1. I love the campus and teaching environment.

I made many friends there. We encouraged each other and grew together. I cherish every moment I spent with teachers and classmates at Concordian.

The transition period between Grade 10 to Grade 11 and 12 was not easy to me. Lessons got more difficult, we had more homework, but time was shrinking so quickly. I believe you might feel the same once you enter this stage, but as long as you walk along with everyone, you’ll surely overcome and finally reach your goal.

I would like to remind everyone with a quote from Eliud Kipchoge that ‘Only the disciplined ones are free in life’. Wish you all the best.

Tata Hirunviriya Department of Urban Planning, Tsinghua University I had been interested in studying in China since Grade 10. China is a highly technologically developed country and is one of world’s superpowers. Equipping myself with Chinese culture and language will surely bring me more opportunities in the future. I had a chance to join the internship with CP Group Shanghai for a month during summer holiday in 2019. Through that I learned about the rapid growth in their urban construction and technology. The modernization in China has drawn me closer to that country which made me want to learn more from them and bring the new technologies to Thailand.

Tsinghua is one of the top Universities in China with great faculty resources and students from all over the world. By studying there I’ll have more chances to learn about local students as well as international students which can probably give me wider global insight.

I have been at Concordian since Kindergarten. Every corner of the campus is in my memory. Concordian to me was like a big family. The faculty, staff and classmates were like my family members that loved and cared for me wholeheartedly.

Studying the IB is not an easy path. It requires time, effort, and even responsibility in community service projects, but it pays off.

It trained me to analyze, deal with stress, manage time, and contribute to our society, which I consider as one of the greatest gains from Concordian.

‘Work hard, play hard!’ is my advice to my juniors. Stress release is a MUST along with a busy study schedule. I would talk to my friends about my stress and have a hangout together to maintain balance. Whenever I was stressed, I would calm myself down with a positive attitude. I told myself, if I can’t solve the problem at all, why should I burden myself? Vice versa, if I can solve the problem, why do I need to be stressed?’ Hope this helps you too.

Athletics News

C

oncordian International School Athletics and our conference, AISAA, continue to follow the recommendations from the government and abide by ISAT and MOE regulations. Government guidelines and Concordian’s new Health and Safety requirements are followed at all times: safety is our top priority. We have an improved maintenance plan for all gyms, courts, playing surfaces, fields, and restrooms. The second priority is to get our students back to participation safely and as soon as allowed by law.

Co-curricular activities for growth and development and supporting academic learning MUST happen. Dragons Athletics’ goal for each division in each sport is to have an AISAA Tournament later in this year. “Low risk sports” as identified by the government will be scheduled first. Varsity sports are scheduled to finish earlier than other grade divisions so that high school student athletes can focus on exams and college applications. For safety reasons, this school year, league play will be eliminated.

Coaches have been busy, carefully planning training units that incorporate healthy lifestyles into the regular practice plan, including fitness, conditioning, mindfulness, and proper nutrition. All teams are practicing year-round so every afternoon the facilities are packed with our students who are happy to be back at school and participating in sports. For some grade levels, our Coaches offer one day for anyone to play and one day for the players who show promise at making the AISAA Tournament team (maximum 12 players). The result is a record number of participants. Go Dragons!

This year we were fortunate enough to hold the grade 5 Graduation on July 29th. We had a series of wonderful ceremonies in which teachers and administrators had opportunities to share memories, felicitations, and advice for the future. There was also overwhelming support from family members who turned out for the special occasion. These ceremonies marked a rite of passage as students moved from the primary years to the middle years programme.

They were also a celebration of how much students have grown and developed as a result of Concordian’s primary years programme.

Through their hard work and determination, these students have begun blossoming into moral and responsible young leaders who take ownership of their own actions and learning, and who will make a difference in the world. eep! Beep! Beep! My clock yelled and woke me up to a new day. I realized that this was the day of the Mother’s day ceremony. I quickly dressed up and headed to school. This year’s Mother day ceremony was unlike any other. The large crowd of students and teachers was non-existent. Instead, it was a small group of administrators, parents, and students, diligently waiting for the start of this auspicious occasion.

Before starting, I reminded myself of why we are here today: to honor HM the Queen Mother, the exceptional mother of our nation, and all the other mothers. Her Majesty has contributed greatly to many aspects of our nation. Throughout her reign, she has restored Thai culture and the arts to its former glory. For example, she preserved and revived the popularity and elegance of the royal Khon performances which tells traditional stories like Ramakien. Additionally, she promoted the production and preservation of traditional Thai crafts. These include ethnic clothing, yan lipao weaving, silk weaving, ceramic making, carving, glassblowing, teen chok silk weaving, Khon mask making, and more.

Suddenly, the MC started uttering the words and soon we started walking one by one. The people in front of me held the tray of pedestals tightly and stepped forward. They walked towards the image of HM, bowed/curtsied, and slowly placed the tray of pedestals on the raised platform. They stepped back, paying their respects before turning around and walking away. Then, it was my turn. I shivered but held still. I walked to the front of the image and repeated the familiar steps which I had rehearsed time and time again. Astonishingly, the ceremony passed by more quickly than imagined and soon we were back in our classes.

A week later, we rushed onto the school van during lunch. We headed to Chulalongkorn hospital, to present a bouquet of flowers and the blessing books.

Although the environment was more tender, the ceremony was not much different. We lined up, bowed/curtsied, and presented the flowers. We also had the opportunity to sign the official blessing book.

Despite the traffic, we returned swiftly to the school and the day continued.

Nevertheless, we should be reminded that mother’s day doesn’t just honor Her Majesty the Queen Mother. Rather, it honors every exceptional mother in the world. Happy mother’s day everyone!

I

n most cultures around the world, teachers are considered the guiding light for students, leading them on their path to success in all paths of life. No amount of gratitude is enough to repay the sacrifices made by teachers for their students.

In Thailand, we celebrate the Wai Kru day, which is a special day for all the teachers in the country.

Traditionally, students get down on their knees and present fragrant flowers to their teachers. This year was a bit different as we, instead of giving flowers, sang a poem to our teachers.

As we sang, I felt very grateful for their patience with me, understanding me, and all the efforts my teachers put into teaching us. I wish all my teachers a great year and for them to keep guiding us with their knowledge and wisdom.

Back in May, I was selected to be a representative of Thailand for the International Young Physicist Tournament (Physics World Cup) 2020, “one of the world’s most respected and prestigious annual physics competitions centered on 17 non-examination research problems” (International Young Physicists’ Tournament, Wikipedia).

Approximately 170 students from across Thailand applied and just 5 were selected to represent the country after competing in three qualifying rounds at the national competition.

The main roles of each country’s representatives were to present their research findings and oppose the findings of other teams. Then the scores were awarded by a jury of international experts. Simply put, we basically had a Physics debate about the theoretical models and methods of experimentations.

Due to the Covid-19 situation, the official IYPT which was supposed to be held in Romania, was canceled. However, some countries came up with an idea of hosting an online tournament via the Zoom platform. The Thailand team did not hesitate to apply for this online tournament since we had been working on it for so long and would have regretted it if we did not join. The participating countries were Singapore, Greece, New Zealand, Georgia, Croatia, Austria, and Thailand. Fortunately, we landed in fourth place.

After this experience, I am really happy to have been part of this competition. Truly, I wouldn’t be where I am without the help of Mr. Markus and Dr. Miguel from the Physics Department, as well as Mr. Manish from the Math Department who helped me with calculus. The People: การเป็นสมาชิกครอบครัวที่มีธุรกิจขนาดใหญ่ อะไรเป็น แรงจูงใจที่ทำ�ให้หันเหสนใจเรื่องการศึกษาแทนที่จะเป็นธุรกิจอื่นๆ วรรณี: ที่จริงไม่เคยสนใจเรื่องการศึกษาเลย สมัยก่อนถ้าบอกคนอื่น ว่าจะมาเปิดโรงเรียนต้องมีคนหัวเราะ เพราะตอนเด็กๆ เป็นคนไม่ชอบ ไปเรียนหนังสือ คือไม่ชอบโรงเรียนเลย จนต้องเปลี่ยนโรงเรียนเยอะมาก แล้วไปอยู่ต่างประเทศหลายรอบได้ไปอยู่อเมริกาตั้งแต่อายุ 13 ตอนที่ อยู่ที่อเมริกาก็เปลี่ยนไป 2 โรงเรียน แต่ที่มาสนใจการศึกษา จริงๆ แล้ว มันตอบโจทย์ที่เคยคิดไว้ตั้งแต่เด็กๆ ตอนที่สมัครมหาวิทยาลัย แล้วเขา ถามว่าเรามีฝันอะไร เราบอกว่าอยากกลับมาช่วยพัฒนาประเทศ

หลังจากเรียนจบสิ่งที่เราพอจะรู้คือเรื่องการเงิน เลยไปเป็นนักวิเคราะห์ ด้ า นการลงทุ น ที ่ ธ นาคาร Chase Manhattan Bank อยู ่ 3 ปี ตอนนั้นทำ�ให้รู้ว่าไม่ใช่สิ่งที่อยากจะทำ� เลยย้ายไปอยู่ฮ่องกงไปหาเพื่อน หลายๆ คนที่เป็นสถาปนิก ช่วยกันตั้งบริษัทของตัวเองชื่อ CL3 Design จำ�กัด ในฮ่องกงขึ้นมา ทำ�เกี่ยวกับการออกแบบ ทางสถาปัตยกรรม อาคารสถานที่ทั้งภายในและภายนอก โดยเราเป็นคนบริหารฝั่งธุรกิจ ทำ� การตลาด บริษัทก็ประสบความสำ�เร็จมาก ทุกวันนี้ก็ยังมีชื่อเสียงอยู่ใน ฮ่ อ งกง จนช่ ว งที ่ ม ี ล ู ก แล้ ว กำ � ลั ง หาโรงเรี ย นให้ ล ู ก ตอนนั ้ น อยากให้ ลู ก ได้เรียนภาษาจีนเพราะรู้สึกว่าอนาคตภาษาจีนสำ�คัญแน่นอน เพราะ ตอนนั้นระหว่างที่เดินทางไปที่ไหน แม้จะเป็นทวีปอเมริกาใต้ ของชำ�ร่วย หลายอย่างก็ยัง made in China คือทำ�ในจีน เมื่อ 20 ปีที่แล้ว คนจะ เห็นว่าจีนไม่สำ�คัญ ขายแต่สินค้าถูกๆ แต่ถ้าเรายังจำ�ได้ ญี่ปุ่นก็เคยเป็น อย่างนั้นและญี่ปุ่นก็กลายเป็นประเทศมหาอำ�นาจ ดังนั้นถ้าเดินทางแล้ว เห็นสินค้าจีนไปถึงทุกแห่งในโลก ไม่ช้าไม่นานเขาก็จะพัฒนาได้ ประจวบ กับการทำ�งานที่ฮ่องกง มีประสบการณ์กับนักธุรกิจจีน ได้เห็นการก้าว กระโดดเดินหน้าไปไม่ยึดติดกับเรื่องเก่าๆ หรือว่าวิศวกรรมเก่าๆ ข้าม ไปลองสิ่งใหม่ๆ เลย ทำ�ให้เห็นว่ามันมีอนาคตแน่นอน ตอนนั้นคิดว่าจะ ให้ลูกเรียนที่ฮ่องกง เพราะจะได้เรียนภาษาจีนด้วย โรงเรียนที่อยากให้ ลูกเรียน ชื่อว่า Chinese International School ระหว่างที่นั่งรอ สมัครก็เห็น mission statement ของโรงเรียนว่าอยากให้เด็กกลุ่มนี้ เปลี่ยนแปลงโลกนี้ให้ดีขึ้น พอได้ เห็ น ปณิ ธ านโรงเรี ย นก็ คิ ด ว่ า จริ ง ถ้ า เด็ ก กลุ ่ ม นี้ตัดสินใจจะเป็น คนดี เขาจะเอาโอกาสที ่ เขามี ไ ปทำ � ประโยชน์ ใ ห้ ก ั บ สังคมได้ ในเวลา เดียวกัน ถ้าเอาอำ�นาจไปทำ�ในสิ่งที่ไม่ถูกต้อง ก็สามารถทำ�เรื่องที่ผิดให้ ยิ่งใหญ่ได้เหมือนกัน อย่างในช่วงปี 1997 ที่เศรษฐกิจถล่มทลาย ไม่ใช่ เพราะคนไม่มีการศึกษา แต่ปัญหาส่วนใหญ่ของโลกเกิ ดจากคนฉลาด และมีการศึกษา เขาสามารถทำ� impact ทำ�ให้ดีขึ้นได้เยอะ และเสียหาย ได้เยอะเช่นเดียวกัน

เลยอยากเชิญเขามาตั้งโรงเรียนที่ประเทศไทยบ้าง ไปเชิญมาหลายรอบ แต่ director ของโรงเรียนก็บอกว่าทำ�ไมไม่ลองตั้งเองเลย เขาบอก ว่ า โรงเรี ย นต้ อ งทำ � จากใจถ้ า อยากตั ้ งโรงเรี ย นก็ ตั ้ งเองเลย เดี๋ย วเขา จะช่วยสนับสนุนด้วยการจัดหาส่งคนมาให้ โรงเรียนเขาเองก็ตั้งขึ้นจาก คุณแม่เพียงไม่กี่คน เขาเคยช่วยตั้งโรงเรียนที่อเมริกาเหมือนกัน เราคิดไป คิดมาว่าเราไม่ชอบเรียนหนังสือ จะมาตั้งโรงเรียนนี่นะ แต่สุดท้ายแล้วมัน ตอบโจทย์ที่ว่าถ้าทำ�ตรงนี้ได้อาจจะสร้างเด็กรุ่นใหม่ ๆ ซึ่งอาจจะไม่เยอะ เพราะว่าเราเป็นโรงเรียนเล็ก แต่ทุกคนที่เราสร้างนั้นอยากให้มี impact กับสังคมในระดับใหญ่ ตอนนี้นักเรียนของเราทำ� service เยอะมาก แต่

ประโยชน์ให้กับสังคมได้ แล้วคุณพ่อก็พาไปดูโครงการหนองหว้า ที่ทาง บริ ษ ั ท ไปซื ้ อ ที ่ ด ิ น แห้ ง แล้ ง แถวฉะเชิ ง เทราซึ ่ ง ปลู ก ข้ า วไม่ ไ ด้ แล้ ว ไป เชิญชาวไร่ชาวนาที่ขยันแต่ไม่มีที่ดินเป็นของตัวเองมาสร้างเป็นชุมชน สร้างบ้าน สร้างเล้าหมู สร้างโรงเรียนให้ ซื้อรถแทรกเตอร์จัดการให้ หมดทุกอย่าง ให้เกษตรกรกลุ่มนี้ได้ทำ�งาน เลี้ยงหมู ดูแลข้าวโพด โดยมี สัตวแพทย์และยาเตรียมไว้ให้ ยังจำ�ได้เลยว่าสมัยนั้นคนในกรุงเทพยังใช้ ถ่ า นหุ งข้ า ว แต่ เล้ า หมู ม ี ก ารเก็ บ มู ล ทำ � เป็ น แก๊ ส ต่ อ เข้า ไปในห้อ งครัว แล้ว จากที่ไม่มีอะไรเลยภายใน 7 ปี ทุกอย่างจะกลายเป็นของเขาหมด นอกจากนี้ยังมีการการันตีราคารับซื้อให้ด้วย คือไม่มีทางขาดทุนเลย

ไม่เฉพาะการให้เปล่าเพียงอย่างเดียว เราไม่อยากให้เป็นการให้เปล่าเฉยๆ แต่เป็นการให้ที่อยู่ในธุรกิจที่พวกเขาทำ�ทุกอย่าง เป็นสิ่งที่เราคิดว่าถ้าเกิด เด็กกลุ่มนี้คิดได้แบบนี้ impact ที่มีจะไม่ใช่แค่ครอบครัวเขา แต่จะเป็นสังคม โดยรวม หน้าที่ของเราคือทำ�ยังไงให้เด็กกลุ่มนี้มีจิตสำ�นึกที่มีความเมตตา มีคุณธรรม มีความเผื่อแผ่ต่อคนอื่น The People: เริ่มก่อตั้งโรงเรียนที่ประเทศไทยตอนไหน วรรณี: เริ่มทำ�โรงเรียนประมาณปี 2001 เราพอเข้าใจเรื่องการเงิน ก็เลย ยังไม่จำ�เป็นต้องลงทุนสร้างโรงเรียนทันที เราเริ่มจากการที่ว่า เช่าสถานที่ ก่อน แล้วก็เปิดจากเล็กๆ ตอนนั้น real estate ในประเทศไทยยำ�่ แย่ เลย ไปเช่าพื้นที่ clubhouse เอาไป renovate ใหม่ พอสนามบินสุวรรณภูมิ จะเปิดเรารู้ว่าเครื่องบินต้องบินผ่าน เลยคิดว่าตรงที่เดิม ไม่น่าจะเหมาะสม กับการเป็นโรงเรียน ก็ขับรถตระเวนหาที่จนมาเจอที่ตรงนี้ แต่ก่อนเป็นทุ่ง หมดเลยโรงเรียนเราเข้ามามีแต่ทุ่งหญ้ากับต้นยูคาลิปตัส พอดีคิดว่าอยากได้ โรงเรียนที่ดูธรรมชาติหน่อยเลยคิดว่าที่ตรงนี้ดี โชคดีที่เจ้าของเก่าท่านก็จบ ครู เลยยอมขายที่ดินให้ แล้วตอนนั้นเลยทำ�เป็นโครงการร่วมกับน้องสาว ชื่อ แมกโนเลีย เป็นที่มาของการเริ่มต้นของเรา The People: โรงเรียนแห่งแรกของทุกคน คือที่บ้าน การที่มาทำ�งานด้านนี้ได้ประยุกต์ สิ่งที่คุณพ่อคุณแม่สอนมายังไงบ้าง วรรณี: คุณพ่อพวกเรา 5 คนทำ�งานหนักมาก เราเลยจะอยู ่ ก ั บ คุ ณ แม่ เ ยอะ คุ ณ แม่ จ ะสอน เสมอว่าการศึกษาคือสมบัติที่ยั่งยืนที่สุดที่จะให้ ได้ ทุกอย่างที่เราเห็นทุกวันนี้อาจจะมาแล้วไป

ตอนนั ้ น รู ้ แ ต่ ว ่ า เราได้ ท ำ � อะไรดี ๆ บางอย่ า ง จนพอโตขึ้นได้ย ้อ นคิด ว่าคุณพ่อได้อะไรจากตรงนี้ เพราะการการันตีราคาเราอาจจะขาดทุน ด้วยซำ�้ ไป คุณพ่อบอกว่าเราได้สินค้าที่มีคุณภาพไม่ขาดสายเพราะคนที่ เป็นเจ้าของย่อมดูแลคุณภาพของสัตว์เลี้ยงเขา เราได้เนื้อหมูที่มีคุณภาพ ไม่มีสารพิษ ที่สามารถเอาไปขายแปรสภาพแล้วส่งออกได้ เราไม่จำ�เป็น ต้ อ งมาหากำ � ไรกั บ เกษตรกร เราสามารถได้ ก ำ � ไรจากการส่ ง ออกไป ยั ง ต่างประเทศได้ เพราะขายต่างประเทศราคาดีกว่า อันนี้ทำ�ให้พวกเรา ทุกคนในครอบครัวมีความคิดคล้าย ๆ กันว่าสิ่งที่เราทำ�นั้นอย่าคิดว่าเรา ต้องได้กำ�ไรสูงสุดในทุกจุดที่ทำ� คุ ณ พ่ อ สอนเสมอเรื ่ อ งผลกระทบระยะยาว บางคนอาจจะเคยได้ ย ิ น เรื่องตอนโดนขโมยรถที่อเมริกา พอโทรศัพท์มาบอกคุณพ่อ แทนที่ท่าน จะตกใจและดุว่า ท่านกลับบอกแค่ให้รีบไปซื้อรถเลยเดี๋ยวไม่มีรถขับ ไปส่งน้องเรียนหนังสือ แต่ตอนกลับมาเยี่ยมบ้านแล้ววางกระเป๋าทิ้งไว้ ในห้องรับแขก พอคุณพ่อเจอกระเป๋าสตางค์กลับโกรธมาก บอกว่าทำ�ไม ถึ งไม่ ม ี ค วามรั บ ผิ ดชอบขนาดนี ้ เอากระเป๋ า สตางค์ มาวางอย่า งนี้ไ ด้ ยั งไง ถ้าเกิดของหายจะทำ�อย่างไร เราก็ตกใจว่ากระเป๋าสตางค์วางไว้ใน บ้านแค่ไม่นานไม่น่าเป็นปัญหา พี่แม่บ้านก็อยู่กับเรามานานคงไม่ขโมย แต่คุณพ่อบอกว่ารถหายทั้งคันไม่ว่าอะไร แต่การไม่รับผิดชอบกระเป๋า สตางค์แล้ววางไว้อย่างนั้นจะเป็นสิ่งล่อตาล่อใจ เกิ ดมีคนมาหยิบด้วย

"คุณธรรมในทุกสิ่งที่เราทำ� แล้วเรายึดมั่นในสิ่งนี้ เราสามารถทำ�ประโยชน์ ให้กับสังคมได้"

คุณแม่ยังสอนให้พ วกเราเข้ า ใจและรั ก คุ ณ พ่ อ เพราะท่ า นเหนื ่ อ ยมากกั บ การทำ�งานหนักให้เราได้เรียนหนังสือดีๆ ส่วนคุณพ่อก็คล้ายๆ กับคุณแม่ ทั้งคู่มีความคิดคล้ายกันมาก เราจะได้ใกล้ชิดกับคุณพ่อได้คุยเรื่องธุรกิจกัน มากขึ้น ตอนอายุ 13 เคยถามคุณพ่อว่าการเป็นนักธุรกิจได้ทำ�ประโยชน์ให้ ประเทศชาติหรือเปล่า เรากำ�ลังเอาเปรียบคนอื่นหรือเปล่า คุณพ่อบอกว่าไม่ จริง คือขอให้มีคุณธรรมในทุกสิ่งที่เราทำ� แล้วยึดมั่นในสิ่งนั้น เราสามารถทำ�

The People: การศึกษาที่ดี หรือโรงเรียนที่ดีควรจะเป็นยังไง วรรณี: สำ�หรับฉันคิดว่าคุณครูสำ�คัญที่สุด คุณครูคือแรงบันดาลใจของ นักเรียน คุณครูที่รู้จักให้กำ�ลังใจนักเรียน ไม่ตัดสินจากแค่คะแนนเรียน ของเขา หรือถ้าเห็นว่าเขามีปัญหาก็ทุ่มเทเข้าไปช่วย ไม่ได้ชื่นชมเฉพาะ เด็กที่เรียนเก่งอย่างเดียว คุณครูแบบนี้มีความหมายมากกว่าเยอะ เพราะ

จะอยู่หรืออาจจะไม่อยู่เมื่อไหร่ก็ได้ ซึ่งเห็นได้จากสิ่งที่เกิ ดขึ้นในสังคมจริง ตั ้ ง แต่ เ ด็ ก ๆ จนโตขึ ้ น มา ในเวลาเดี ย วกั น คุ ณ แม่ ส อนเสมอว่ า เราต้ อ ง ไม่ตัดสินคนจากสิ่งที่เห็นภายนอก ให้ดูจากข้างในของเขา เพราะทุกคนมีค่า เหมือนกัน อย่างที่บ้านของเรา ตั้งแต่เด็กๆ พี่เลี้ยงเราก็ต้องเรียกพี่ คนขับรถ ต้องเรียกคุณน้าคุณอา ต้องสวัสดีถ้าเขาอายุมากกว่าเรา คุณแม่สอนให้เรา เคารพทุกคน ซึ่งเราได้นำ�มาสอนกับนักเรียนของเรา ส่วนคุณพ่อก็เป็นคนแบบ นั้นเหมือนกัน เวลาคุณพ่อไปเยี่ยมคนที่ต่างจังหวัด ไปเดินอยู่ข้างคูนำ�้ ไปนั่งดู ไก่ในที่ทุรกันดารท่านก็เคารพทุกคนเหมือนกัน ปฏิบัติกับทุกคนเหมือนกัน อัน นี้เป็นสิ่งที่คิดว่าเราทั้ง 5 คนมีความคิดเหมือนกัน ส่วนตัวพยายามจะถ่ายทอด สิ่ง นี้ให้เด็กๆ เข้าใจว่าทุก คนมี ค ่ า เท่ า กั น อย่ า งเช่ น แม่ บ ้ า นของโรงเรี ย นก็ มีคุณค่าถ้าโรงเรียนไม่สะอาด จะอยู่ได้ยังไง เราเลยจะมีสวัสดิการที่ดีมากให้ แม่บ้านของเรา อย่างบางคนอยู่มานาน 19 ปี ตั้งแต่เปิดเลย เราดูแลลูกของ พวกเขาหลายอย่าง ถ้าลูกเขาเข้ามหาวิทยาลัยได้เราก็มีทุนการศึกษาให้ มี การประกันสุขภาพเขาเท่ากับผู้บริหาร เพราะเราคิดว่าจริง ๆ ถ้าไม่มีเขาเราก็ อยู่ไม่ได้เหมือนกัน ทุกคนก็มีค่าเท่ากัน

เด็กทุกคนนอกจากพ่อแม่ของตัวเองแล้ว ผู้ใหญ่คนต่อไปที่เขารัก เคารพ 3 ต่อ 1 ซึ่งอาจจะเป็นเพราะว่าเราสอนระบบ 3 ภาษา เลยต้องมีครูที่คอย หรืออยากจะรัก เคารพ น่าจะเป็นคุณครู เพราะฉะนั้นคุณครูที่มีส่วนช่วย สนับสนุนเด็กตลอดเวลา คุณครูในระบบ IB จะต้องรู้จริงรู้ลึก ครูเกือบ สร้างแรงบันดาลใจนั้นสำ�คัญกว่าคุณครูที่เก่งเสียอีก ทั้งหมดของโรงเรียนเรามีทั้งปริญญาโทและดอกเตอร์ด้วย บางเรื่องครู อาจจะรู ้ น ้ อ ยกว่ า เด็ ก ก็ ไ ด้ เพราะเดี ๋ ย วนี ้ เด็ ก สามารถค้ น คว้า วิเ คราะห์ ในชีวิตของทุกคนจะต้องมีคุณครูคนหนึ่ง หรือหลายคนก็ได้ ที่ช่วยเรา ข้อมูลได้ด้วยตัวเอง บางทีรู้เยอะกว่าครูอีก ครูต้องเปิดใจตรงนี้ด้วยว่า ถ้า หรือว่าเป็นแรงบันดาลใจให้เรา คอยเข้าใจเรา ทำ�ให้อยากตั้งใจทำ�งาน บางเรื่องรู้ไม่เท่าเด็กเราก็ต้องมาเรียนรู้ด้วยกัน เป็นอีกสิ่งที่สำ�คัญสำ�หรับ ให้เขา อยากจะเก่งกว่านี้ให้เขาภูมิใจ แต่ว่าถ้าเป็นครูที่ชอบประชด ครูในระบบ IB ประชันดุด่าว่านักเรียน จริงๆ เด็กไม่มีใครหรอกอยากจะโดนดุว่า ก่อนที่ จะดุเด็กที่ไม่ส่งการบ้านได้คุยกับเขาหรือยังว่าทำ�ไมถึงไม่ได้ทำ� เมื่อคืนนี ้ The People: โรงเรียนนี้มีส่วนเติมเต็มชีวิตของคุณครูด้วยหรือไม่ พ่อแม่อาจทะเลาะกันแล้วเขาอาจจะนอนร้ อ งไห้ ทั ้ ง คื น ก็ ได้ หรื อ อาจ วรรณี: จริงๆ ก็ใช่นะ คือตอนสาวๆ ไม่ได้เป็นคนที่รู้สึกว่าเด็กน่ารักอะไร มีเรื่องปัญหาอย่างอื่นที่เราไม่รับรู้ เราไม่ควรไปตัดสินว่าเขาเป็นเด็กไม่ดี อย่างนี้เลย เป็นคนตรงไปตรงมามากกว่า แต่หลังจากได้มาทำ�โรงเรียน เพราะแค่ไม่ส่งการบ้าน ตั้งแต่ทำ�โรงเรียนมา 19 ปี ไม่เคยเจอเด็กเกเร รู ้ ส ึ ก เลยว่ า คำ � พู ดที ่ ว ่ า เด็ ก เหมื อ นผ้ า ขาวเป็ น เรื ่ อ งจริ ง เราสามารถช่วย ที่ไม่มีปัญหาส่วนตัว จริงๆ แล้วเด็กเกเรก็ไม่ค่อยมี ส่วนใหญ่ที่เกเรคือ เปลี่ยนแปลงเขาได้ หรือบางครั้งสิ่งแวดล้อมก็เปลี่ยนแปลงเขาได้ ทั้งในทาง ไม่ค่อยทำ�การบ้าน ไม่ค่อยตั้งใจเรียนหนังสือ ดีและไม่ดี สิ่งที่เราพยายามทำ�คือพยายามเปลี่ยนแปลงเขาในทางที่ดี แล้ว ทำ�ให้ดียิ่งขึ้น เป็นความสุขอย่างหนึ่งเวลาได้เห็นนักเรียนที่จบแล้ว ได้เข้า The People: การหาคุณครูผู้สอนที่เข้ากับปรัชญาการสอนของ มหาวิทยาลัยดี ๆ หรือมีคนชมว่าเด็กคอนคอร์เดียนนิสัยดี จิตใจโอบอ้อม โรงเรียนยากแค่ไหน อารี มีวัฒนธรรม อันนี้เป็นสิ่งที่ภูมิใจที่สุด แต่ในเวลาเดียวกันมีคนมาบ่นว่า วรรณี : ส่ ว นหนึ ่ ง เราสร้ า งเองด้ ว ย เพราะเรื ่ อ งบางเป็ น เรื ่ อ ง เรียนยาก การเรียน 3 ภาษา มันจะง่ายได้ยังไง การเรียนหนักก็คือการฝึก ของวัฒนธรรมไทยและเอเชียด้วยแต่จริงๆ แล้วปรัชญาของโรงเรียน ความอดทนอย่างหนึ่ง จะเริ่มต้นจากง่ายแล้วค่อย ๆ ยาก ตอนแรกเรียนไม่ คล้ า ยคลึ ง กั บ ปรั ช ญาของ IB มาก และโรงเรี ย นเราก็ ม ี ก ารอบรม ยากแล้วสนุกไปด้วย ต่อมาจะยากขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ จนในช่วง 2 ปีสุดท้าย เรียน เยอะมาก เนื ่ อ งด้ ว ยโรงเรี ย นเป็ น ระบบ IB หรื อ International ยากเทียบเท่ากับมหาวิทยาลัย แต่ก็เห็นทุกคนผ่านไปได้ เด็กหลายคนเรียน Baccalaureate ซึ่งเป็นหลักสูตรที่ออกแบบขึ้นเพื่อให้ผู้เรียนสามารถ ดี ทำ�กิจกรรม เล่นกีฬาเยอะด้วย ศึก ษาต่อและปรับ ตัวในการศึ ก ษาต่ อได้ ก ั บ ทุ ก ๆ ระบบการศึ ก ษาใน โลก ครูทุกคนต้องไปอบรมกับทาง IB ทุกปีเราจะให้ครูทุกคนไปอบรม อี ก อย่ า งนั ก เรี ย นเราทำ � พวกงานบริ ก ารสั ง คมเยอะ เราเปิ ด โอกาสให้ เพิ่มเติม เพื่อจะได้เข้าใจหลักปรัชญาของการสอนของระบบ IB ซึ่ง ตั ้ ง ชมรมของตัวเอง แล้วพาเขาไปดู community service ต่างๆ ด้วย เป็นการสอนให้เด็กลงลึกในการทำ� research และก็รู้จักถามคำ�ถาม ตัวอย่างที่เคยพาไปเอง ก็จะมีแบบเช่น บ้านพักคนชรา เด็กพิการซำ�้ ซ้อน ที่ถูกต้อง แล้วเรียนรู้จากตัวเอง เรียนรู้จากการทำ�งาน ค้นคว้าเยอะมาก เด็กกำ�พร้า จริงๆ แล้ว หลายคนไม่เข้าใจว่า เราไป service อะไรเขาได้ อย่างนี้ แล้วแน่นอนการเรียน 3-4 ภาษาการท่องจำ�ยังต้องมีบ้าง แต่โดย แต่เป็นสิ่งที่คิดว่ามีค่าที่สุด คือเขาคิดได้ด้วยตัวเอง แล้วสิ่งนั้นจะอยู่กับเขา ส่วนใหญ่คะแนนระดับที่สำ�คัญคือการเข้าใจและการวิเคราะห์ ตลอดไป สุดท้ายเราถามคำ�ถามเค้าง่ายๆ ข้อเดียวทำ�ไมครูถึงพาเธอมา ที่นี้แทบจะทุกคนและทุกครั้ง เด็กเข้าใจและตอบได้ว่าเพื่อมาเรียนรู้ว่าเรา The People: ต้นทุนในการจัดการการศึกษาก็คงมหาศาลทีเดียว ยั งสามารถทำ � ได้ ม ากกว่ า นี ้ เพื ่ อ สั งคม สู ้ ไ ด้ ม ากกว่ า นี ้ เพื ่ อ ส่วนรวม และ ในฐานะที่เป็นนักการเงินเก่านี่จัดการกับมันยังไงครับ ช่ ว ยเหลื อ คนอื ่ น ได้ ม ากกว่ า นี ้ และโชคดี ข นาดไหนที ่ เ รามี พ ่ อ แม่ ท ี ่ ร ั ก วรรณี: การมาทำ�โรงเรียนนี่ถือว่าล้มเหลวในฐานะนักการเงิน (หัวเราะ) เราหรือตอนที่พาเขาไปบ้านพักคนชรา เราอยากให้เขารู้ว่า จริงๆ พ่อแม่ เพราะใช้เงินเปลืองมาก เรามีคุณครู 200 กว่าคน สำ�หรับนักเรียน 900 ไม่ ไ ด้ อ ยากให้ ค ุ ณ มาดู แ ลเขาแล้ ว แต่ ถ ้ า อยากดู แ ลเขาวั น นี้พร้อ มหรือ กว่าคน ถ้านับรวมเจ้าหน้าทั้งหมด สัดส่วนครูกับนักเรียนน่าจะประมาณ ยัง ทำ�ดีที่สุดแล้วหรือยัง วันหนึ่งคุณจะเอาพ่อแม่มาอยู่ตรงนี้หรือเปล่า

The People: ตอนนี้ถึงเวลาที่เราต้องปฏิรูปการศึกษาหรือยัง วรรณี: ถ้าจะปฏิรูปการศึกษามีเรื่องที่ต้องแก้ไขเยอะมาก ถ้าครูเป็นหัวใจ ที่สำ�คัญที่สุด ถามว่าต้องใช้เวลานานเท่าไหร่ถ้าเราจะต้องไปเทรนด์ครู ใหม่ทั้งหมด สิ่งแรกคือตัวครูเองต้องอยากที่จะเปลี่ยนแปลง ไม่จำ�เป็น ต้ อ งรอให้ ใ ครมาอบรม ทุ ก วั น นี ้ เราสามารถอ่ า นความรู ้ เ พิ่ม เติม จาก อินเทอร์เน็ตได้ด้วยตัวเอง ครูปัจจุบันทุกคนที่ต้องการเปลี่ยนแปลง เขา สามารถเปลี่ยนแปลงได้ด้วยตัวเอง ไม่ต้องรอให้รัฐบาลหรือให้ใครบอก ให้เขาเปลี่ยนแปลง มันอยู่ที่ใจเขา ในเวลาเดียวกันครูต้องไม่มีอีโก ต้อง ยอมรับได้ว่าเราไม่ได้เก่งทุกอย่าง ซึ่งเป็นจุดหนึ่งที่คุณพ่อสอนคือเรา ไม่เก่งทุกอย่าง เราต้องยอมรับว่าอะไรที่เราไม่เก่ง อะไรที่ทำ�ได้ไม่ดี ก็ให้ คนที่เขาเก่งกว่าไปทำ�ในเรื่องที่เขาเก่งกว่าก็จบไม่ต้องอาย ไม่มีใครเก่งทุก อย่างในโลกนี้ใช่ไหมคะ ขออย่างเดียวให้ใช้ในทางที่ถูกต้อง ครูต้องกลับ ไปสอนเด็กว่าจะคิดวิเคราะห์ยังไงถึงเลือกข้อมูลที่ถูกต้องแล้วนำ�มาใช้ใน The People: นิยามของผู้นำ�เยาวชนที่กำ�ลังสร้างเพื่อให้เป็นผู้นำ�ที่ ที่ถูกต้อง แล้วถามคำ�ถามที่ถูกต้องด้วย เพราะถ้าถามปัญหาผิดคำ�ตอบก็ จะเปลี่ยนแปลงโลกในอนาคตเป็นอย่างไร ผิดเรื่อง ถามปัญหาถูกเราถึงจะได้คำ�ตอบที่ถูกต้อง วรรณี: compassion ที่แปลว่า เมตตา แล้วก็คำ�ว่า integrity ที่แปล ว่าคุณธรรม ผู้นำ�ที่ดีไม่ว่าอดีตปัจจุบัน หรืออนาคต ต้องมีความมีเมตตา ดิฉันเชื่อว่าทุกคนในสังคมต้องมีความรับผิดชอบ อย่างหนึ่งที่ต้องทำ�คือ และคุณธรรม อีกอย่างที่คิดว่าต้องมีคือความขยันอดทน มีความอดทน คืนอะไรกลับมาให้สังคมบ้าง ถ้าคุณเป็นครูที่สอนเก่ง อาจเอาโทรศัพท์ อย่ายอมแพ้ อันนี้สำ�คัญมาก สำ�หรับความเป็นผู้นำ� เรื่องความเก่งไม่เก่ง ขึ้นมาอัดวีดิโอเผยแพร่การสอนทางออนไลน์ ดิฉันคิดว่าการเปลี่ยนแปลง เป็นอีกเรื่องนึง เก่งแล้วไม่อดทนก็ไม่มีประโยชน์ เก่งแล้วไม่มีคุณธรรม ไม่ต้องรอใคร อยู่ที่พวกเราทุกคน แล้วคนที่รอจะเสียใจเพราะว่าโลกมัน ยิ่งจะไปทำ�ร้ายคนอื่น มีคนพูดเสมอว่าเป็นเรื่องนามธรรม จับต้องยาก จะเปลี่ยนไปอย่างรวดเร็ว แล้วถึงตอนนั้นเขาจะตามไม่ทันจริงๆ แล้ว วัดผลยาก แต่คิดว่าการสอนได้สิ่งนี้ให้พวกเขาได้คิดเอง ได้เห็นแล้วสรุป ดิฉันต้องขอบคุณทุกคนที่เป็นครู เพราะดิฉันรู้สึกว่าเขาเสียสละมาก บาง เป็นความรู้สึกจากใจ อย่างทุกครั้งที่จะจัด service เราก็คุยกันว่าไป คนเป็ น ครู เพราะมี ค วามรั ก ที่ อ ยากเห็ น เด็ ก คนหนึ่ งประสบความสำ�เร็จ ที่นี่ เช่น บ้านพักคนชรา สถานสงเคราะห์คนพิการและทุพพลภาพ เริ่มจากคนที่เรารักก่อน ถ้าคุณจะไปช่วยโลกนี้ แต่คนดูแลคนที่รักเราดูแล เปล่า แต่รู้สึกมีความสุขใจแล้วก็ happy กับสิ่งที่ได้ทำ� ดีใจทุกครั้งที่เห็น เราตั้งแต่เล็กยังไม่ได้ แล้วเราจะไปช่วยใครได้ อย่างที่เขาบอกว่าพระที่ นักเรียนเปลี่ยนแปลงไปในทางที่ดี ไม่ต้องเรียนเก่งที่สุด แค่คิดเป็นก็มี บ้านสำ�คัญที่สุด เราบอกเด็กเริ่มที่ตรงนั้นก่อนเลย ปู่ย่าตายาย คิดว่าเขา ความสุขต้องบอกว่าส่วนหนึ่งทำ�แล้ว fulfill ความรู้สึก happy ของตัว น่าเบื่อเหรอ ลองนับวันว่าจะได้อยู่กับเขาอีกกี่วัน เริ่มจากที่บ้าน เริ่มจาก เอง เพื่อน ๆ ที่โรงเรียน แล้วสุดท้ายแล้วจะอยู่ในตัวเขา แล้วจะไปในทุกสิ่งที่ เขาทำ� ดิฉันเชื่ออย่างนั้น The People: คุณค่าและความหมายของเราคืออะไร วรรณี: ไม่เคยคิดนะ เพราะไม่ได้คิดว่าตัวเราสำ�คัญมาก แต่เราคิดว่า The People: ประสบการณ์ตอนที่ขึ้นไปพูดบน Forum of the สิ่งที่เราพยายามจะทำ�มันเป็นสิ่งที่สำ�คัญ เราแค่อยากให้ไปถึงตรงนั้น world มากกว่า ก็เลยไม่เคยคิดว่าคุณค่าของเราคืออะไร แต่เราไปคิดถึงคุณค่า วรรณี : ตอนนั ้ น ไป พู ด แทนคุ ณ พ่ อ ที ่ ง าน Forum for ถ้ายังไม่ได้ต้องเรียกมาคุยว่าจะต้องทำ�ยังไงถึงพยายามได้มากกว่านี้ เมื่อ ความรู ้ ส ึ ก ว่ า นั ก ศึ ก ษาจบออกมาแล้ ว ไม่ ไ ด้ ต รงตามงานที ่ ม ี แม้ แ ต่ มีโอกาสขนาดนี้แล้ว เราแค่อยากเห็นศักยภาพของทุกคนมากกว่า เลยไม่ นักศึกษาที่จบมหาวิทยาลัยดีๆ อาจไม่มีงานทำ�ด้วยซ้ำ�ไป อันนี้เขาพูด ได้คิดถึงเรื่องของตัวเองเท่าไหร่ คิดถึงเรื่องของเด็กๆ แล้วก็มีความสุขกับ ถึงในอเมริกาอะไรด้วยนะ แล้วเขาก็เลยบอกว่าโลกกำ�ลังเปลี่ยนแปลง ตรงนั้นมากกว่า ไปอย่างรวดเร็ว นักการศึกษาก็พูดแต่เรื่องการศึกษา นักธุรกิ จก็พูดแต่ เรื่องธุรกิจทำ�ไม 2 กลุ่มนี้ไม่คุยกัน เลยอยากมีเวทีให้นักธุรกิจกับนักการ อยากฝากถึ งคุ ณ ครู ว ่ า ทุ ก คนควรจะมี ค วามสุ ข แบบที ่ ดิ ฉ ั นมี เวลาเห็น ศึกษาได้มาคุยกันในระดับโลก ดิฉันเลยได้รับเชิญไปเป็นคณะกรรมการ ลูกศิษย์ประสบความสำ�เร็จ โดยเฉพาะคนที่ไม่มีใครสนใจเขาเลย คนที่ เพราะเห็นว่าพันธกิจของเราคือพยายามสร้างบุคลากรให้เป็นคนที่มีจิตใจ ทุกคนคิดว่าเขาไม่ไหวแล้ว หรือไม่มใี ครสนใจเขาแล้ว ถ้าคุณช่วยคนๆ นั้น เมตตา มีจริยธรรมที่คุณพ่อพูดว่าคนทำ�ธุรกิจ บางคนอาจจะจบ ป.4 หรือ ได้ คุณน่าจะมีความสุขที่สุด เมื่อมาเป็นครูทั้งทีควรเป็นครูคนหนึ่งที่เขา ไม่ได้จบอะไรเลยก็อาจทำ�ได้ ถ้าอ่านออกเขียนได้ อาจจะเป็นมหาเศรษฐี จำ�เราได้ตลอดชีวิต เขาอาจไม่ได้กลับมาหาเราอีก แต่เขาจะจำ�ได้ว่าเรา ใหญ่ได้ อย่าง ลี กา ชิง หรือหลาย ๆ ท่านในอดีตที่สร้างธุรกิจใหญ่โตใน คือคนนั้นแหละที่ทำ�ให้เขาอยากเรียนหนังสือ อยากเรียนวิชานี้ อยากเป็น ประเทศไทย และหลาย ๆ แห่งทั่วโลก ก็ไม่ได้จบมหาวิทยาลัยแค่พออ่าน คนดี แล้วครูทุกคนในโลกนี้ก็จะมีความสุขเอง ออกเขียนได้ ท่านพูดในเชิงธุรกิจ ซึ่งดิฉันว่าจริงไม่ต้องรอจนถึงอายุ 18 สมัยก่อนคนจบ ป.4 ก็รับราชการได้ เพราะเขาอ่านออกเขียนได้ สามารถ ศึกษาด้วยตัวเองได้ แต่สายวิชาชีพอย่างหมอไม่ใช่ เพราะหมอต้องเรียน เยอะต้องจำ�หลาย ๆ อย่าง ต้องมีความรู้ที่เป็นเทคนิค อย่าง engineer ก็ต้องรู้จริง เรามี engineer เยอะแยะที่มาเป็นนักธุรกิจ สมัยก่อนมี ACC อายุ 18-19 ก็จบมาทำ�ธุรกิจได้แล้ว ตอนนั้นยังไม่ได้มีเอแบค ยังไม่ ได้มีมหาวิทยาลัยเลย ซึ่ง ACC ก็คือจบ มส.3 ซึ่งก็สามารถจบมาประสบ ความสำ�เร็จในการทำ�ธุรกิจได้อย่างเช่น คุณก่อศักดิ์ เซเว่น เป็นต้น ส่วนมากเด็กกลุ่มนี้เขาได้เรียนรู้เยอะจริงๆ เรามีเด็กที่เริ่มกิจกรรมดีๆ เช่น ปลูกต้นไม้กับคนชรา เอาต้นไม้ไปปลูกด้วยกันทำ�กระถางด้วยกันเสร็จ แล้วก็ไปเยี่ยมต้นไม้ ดูแลต้นไม้อย่างดี เราอยากให้เขารับรู้ว่าวันนี้คุณอาจ จะเป็นเด็กๆ อาจจะยังแก้ปัญหาพวกนี้ไม่ได้ แต่วันที่เป็นผู้ใหญ่ ได้นั่งอยู่ ในจุดที่คุณตัดสินใจได้ว่าจะทำ�อะไร สามารถเลือกทำ�ในสิ่งที่มีผลบวกกับ สังคมได้ อีกเรื่องที่เราพยายามสอนเด็กเสมอ ซึ่งเป็นเรื่องที่ดิฉันเข้าไป สอนเอง คือการที่อย่าเอาตัวเราไปเปรียบเทียบกับคนอื่น แล้วจะมีความ สุขที่สุด ถ้าอยากเรียนเก่งก็ตั้งเป้าของเราไม่ต้องไปแข่งกับเพื่อน เพื่อนมี เอาไว้เป็นเพื่อนไม่ต้องมีเอาไว้แข่งขัน จะโชคดีขนาดไหนถ้ามีเพื่อนที่รู้จัก กันตั้งแต่เล็กจนโตแล้วเป็นเพื่อนกันยาวนาน คนเดียวที่ต้องแข่งด้วยคือ ตัวเราเอง ตั้งเป้าแล้วก็สู้ เราอยากจะเห็นนักเรียนของเราทุกคนเป็นอย่าง นี้
