When people tell me that Concordian is very successful, I reply, "Not yet. I am waiting to see. Concordian’s success will be realized when I see our students successfully carry on our Mission in their lives.
Khun Varnnee Chearavanont Ross
Dear Concordians,
Welcome back to a new academic year and let’s welcome the many new members of our Concordian family!
Our Class of 2024 is already attending many wonderful universities around the world, building their dreams. I am very proud of all of them!
Thank you so much for being a part of my life, my dream, and my hope for a better world. Again and again, parents of students of all ages ask me, “How can my children decide what they want to be?” It is becoming harder and harder to answer this question because things are changing so rapidly nowadays; many things that they want to be may not exist in the future.
Moreover, many future careers may not even exist yet. However, I am not so worried for our Concordian graduates because I know that they are equipped with the skills to be lifelong learners. If they attended Concordian for PYP alone,
they have completed a minimum of 45 research projects. If they only attended for MYP, they must have completed at least 50 or more. Even if we count only the last 2 years in DP or regular classes, they would have completed 20 projects.
I strongly believe that whatever our students want to achieve in their future, they will be able to find a way to achieve it. This is because they always remember to keep tenacity and responsibility close to their hearts, along with Concordian’s Mission: to lead and live life with Dignity, Integrity, and most importantly of all, Compassion. They know to forgive others, and themselves. They know that when they make mistakes, they can reflect, apologize and learn from them. When they fall, they have learned to get up and walk on to a greater path, and give a helping hand to those who need it along the journey.
Be there for each other. This is the key to success that comes with happiness, which may come at different times for each person. I have said to our parents,
“Flowers bloom and give fruit at different times." When people tell me that Concordian is very successful, I reply, "Not yet. I am waiting to see. Concordian’s success will be realized when I see our students successfully carry on our Mission in their lives." Class of 2024, I wish all of you only the best in life.
Thank you, parents, for all your support. Please keep in mind our Mission and continue to be the greatest coaches and supporters of your children. Thank you for letting Concordian be a part of your family.
Thank you to all the rest of the Concordian team. Whatever your title or your job, you are all very important in each of your own positions and responsibilities. Without your commitment and hard work to implement Concordian’s Mission, we wouldn’t have the wonderful students and alumni that we have today. Please accept my sincerest gratitude.
Sincerely,
Varnnee Chearavanont Ross Founding Director
Message from the Head of School
The world around us is constantly changing, and while it can feel quite scary at times, it is our responsibility to work together, side by side with parents, to prepare this new generation for what seems like an entirely different future, in a world where artificial intelligence plays a significant role in many aspects of life.
Mr. Laurent Goetschmann
Dear Concordian Community,
Welcome to the new academic year! It is truly wonderful to see all our students back on campus, enjoying their learning experiences and having fun!
We can be proud of having built such a close-knit community over the past 24 years and I am so grateful for the strong bonds we share. Our common goal remains the same: to make sure our students receive the best possible education while staying true to themselves, their values, and being prepared to take on any challenges that come their way.
The world around us is constantly changing, and while it can feel quite scary at times, it is our responsibility to work together, side by side with parents, to prepare this new generation for what seems like an entirely different future, in a world where artificial intelligence plays a significant role in many aspects of life. Yet, even as we
integrate AI into our lives, we must use it with care, without losing sight of what makes us uniquely human.
At Concordian, we are proud to be at the forefront of AI innovation. However, with these advancements come challenges we must be aware of together. AI offers numerous advantages but it also raises concerns about data privacy, ethical considerations and the risk of relying too much on technology. It is essential that we approach these issues thoughtfully and understand their potential impact on our lives.
We are committed to ensuring that our students not only learn how to use AI technology effectively but also understand its implications. By emphasizing critical thinking and open discussions, we believe we can help students become responsible individuals who can navigate the complexities of modern technology.
I encourage everyone — students, parents, and teachers alike — to participate in
conversations about AI. Let us work together to explore its benefits and risks thoughtfully, so we can make informed decisions about how to incorporate it into our lives. Your insights and perspectives are invaluable as we embark on this journey.
As we embrace these new technologies, let us also remember to hold onto the human connections and critical thinking skills that are essential. Qualities like empathy, creativity, and ethical judgment are uniquely human and cannot be replaced by machines.
Once again, welcome to the new year. I am excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to everything we will accomplish together.
Warm regards,
Laurent Goetschmann Head of School

Message from the Board of Trustees
Board members have the unique opportunity to shape not only the future of Concordian but also the educational landscape for the leaders of tomorrow.
Mr. John Chu
The Heart of Concordian: The Role and Impact of the Board of Trustees
At Concordian International School, the Board of Trustees is a prestigious yet often unseen guiding force. This dedicated volunteer body is responsible for laying the backbone of the institution, setting a strategic direction aligned with Concordian’s mission to shape socially responsible global citizens. While the Board’s work may not always be visible, its influence is essential to the school’s continued success.
Importantly, the Board respects the autonomy of the school’s administration, teachers, and staff, refraining from interference in daily operations, individual student matters, or specific administrative actions. By focusing on governance rather than direct management, the Board ensures that Concordian remains a space where students and educators can flourish.
The Board of Trustees is always on the lookout for new members who bring valuable skills and perspectives that can help drive the school forward. As part of our commitment to ensuring that Concordian adapts to a rapidly changing world, we actively seek individuals who are not only passionate about education but also possess expertise in emerging fields. One area we are currently exploring is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) as part of both our Board operations and the broader educational experience. Embracing AI can open new doors for innovation, supporting decision-making and enhancing the learning environment.
However, it’s important to note that while we see AI as a valuable tool, we are committed to using it thoughtfully. We aim to find a balanced approach, where AI serves as an aid and not as the ultimate decision-maker. In this way, we can harness the power of AI to support our vision and mission without compromising the human touch that defines education at Concordian.
Volunteering as a trustee is more than just a role—it is an honor. Board members have the unique opportunity to shape not only the future of Concordian but also the educational landscape for the leaders of tomorrow. By building a strong foundation and embracing innovation where it aligns with our values, the Board of Trustees ensures that Concordian remains on a path of growth and excellence. For those who are passionate about making a meaningful impact, we welcome you to consider joining us as we work to create a brighter future for our school and our society.
Mr. John Chu Chair of the Board of Trustees
Valedictory Ceremony 2024
O
n June 15th, 2024, Concordian International School proudly hosted the Grade 12 Valedictory Ceremony, marking the culmination of our students' hard work and dedication. The morning was filled with joy, reflection, and excitement as we celebrated the achievements of the Class of 2024.
Adding a special touch to the ceremony, we were delighted to welcome back one of our distinguished alumni, Mr. Soravis Srinawakoon (Man), who delivered an inspiring keynote speech. As a former student, Mr. Soravis shared his journey beyond Concordian, offering valuable insights and encouragement to our graduates. His words resonated deeply, emphasizing the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and pursuing one's passions in an ever-changing world.
Throughout the ceremony, speeches by staff and student representatives highlighted the remarkable accomplishments of
our graduates. We are immensely proud of all our graduates, not only for their academic excellence but also for their contributions to the school and wider community. Their leadership, creativity, and commitment to service have left a long lasting impact on the school.
As they embark on new adventures at university, we want them to know they will be dearly missed. Their presence has enlivened our classrooms, and their achievements have set a high bar for future classes.
To our graduates, remember that you are always welcome back at Concordian. We look forward to you sharing your new adventures! No matter where life takes you, Concordian will always be your home!

Grade 12 Farewell Celebration
On June 14th, 2024, Concordian held a farewell ceremony for the graduating class of 2024. Below, we are sharing the address to the Class of 2024 given by one of the graduating students, Stephen Berry:
Good afternoon to the honored guests, esteemed faculty, and fellow graduates. My name is Stephen, and it is a true honor to stand before you today.
Khun Varnnee, thank you for creating the school and for providing us with a clear guiding vision.
Admin Team, including Mr. Laurent, Ajarn Vichitvong, and the Principals Mr. Bill, Ms. Sally, Ms. Min, thank you for ensuring the school is preparing us for the future and pushing us when we need it.
College Counseling Team, Dr. Tresa, Mr. Tony, Khun Kay, thank you for your guidance and hard work in helping us find and get into the university that is best suited for us.
EY and PY teachers, thank you for teaching us to read and write in 3 languages and how to be inquirers.
MYP teachers, thank you for laying the academic foundation we need to be successful in school and life.
DP teachers, thank you for refining our academic skills and teaching us how to think and learn on our own.
Looking back to my very first days here, walking in as a K3 student, it's hard to believe that 13 years have flown by so quickly. Today, as I stand here graduating, it feels like those years passed in the blink of an eye. From the start, I've always been an athletic kid, and my love for sports has only grown over time. I cherish memories like the school sleepover for the football team back in Grade 2, and our undefeated football season these past two years. These moments are priceless, and I want to treasure every single one of them.
When I was younger, I couldn't wait to graduate and explore the world. Now, as I stand on the brink of that adventure, I'm incredibly excited, but there's a bittersweet sting that comes with it. I want you all to look around at your friends, as I look at mine. We faced many challenges together, from late-night study sessions to unexpected obstacles, but each one made us stronger and more resilient. Along the way, we created countless memories: spirited debates in class, unforgettable events, and the simple joy of spending time together. However, as we celebrate today, we must also acknowledge a bittersweet truth. As we move forward, many of the connections we've made will inevitably fade. We may keep in touch with around ten of our classmates, and perhaps see no more than five regularly outside of
reunions. Yet, the bonds we've formed and the experiences we've shared will always be a part of who we are.
Now, let's address some questions that are on many people's minds. What is it like when you finish? Was the IB worth it? Will I make it through the IB program? First, let me assure you, yes—you will make it. As many of you know, academics were never my favorite thing or my top priority. I was able to play sports every day, enjoy games at home, and even get to bed before midnight, sometimes as early as 10 PM. This was with minimal effort on schoolwork. Am I particularly proud of this approach? Not entirely. Part of me does wish I had put in a little more effort. However, I still managed to achieve decent grades throughout the DP and made it out in one piece. If I could do it, you all definitely can.
For those who are asking if IB is worth it, yes. If you have seen the list of universities we have been accepted to, that should be more than enough to convince you. My cousin once said that when he first finished IB in high school, he thought it was the biggest waste of time ever until he reached college. He flew through college, while his peers were spending 10 or more hours on papers, it only took him half if not less of the time, as the IB fully prepared him for it. I’m not saying university is easy, I’m just saying you will be prepared.
With that said let me leave you with a quote,
A wise man once said,
Dating is hard, Breaking up is hard, Choose your hard
Obesity is hard, Staying fit is hard, Choose your hard.
Failing school is hard, Studying for school is hard, Choose your hard.
Life is never easy, But your hard is your choice.
Choose wisely.
Stephen Class of 2024
To our K3 students, you have accomplished so much since the beginning of the school year. Reflect on your first days in Pre-K, K1, or K2—some of you may have felt a bit nervous, but look at how far you've come! You have grown in knowledge, confidence, and friendships, and developed the skills that will serve you well throughout your life. We are so proud of you!
guided these young minds, leaving a lasting impact that will carry them through the years ahead. We are deeply grateful for everything you do.

Dear Students, Families, and Teachers,
It is with great joy that I extend a heartfelt congratulations to our wonderful Kindergarten graduates! We all come together to celebrate the incredible growth and achievements of our Early Years students as they take their next steps on this exciting educational journey.

To our teachers, your commitment, creativity, and passion have made all of this possible. You have inspired and
Graduates, as you step into the next chapter, always remember the lessons you've learned here in the Early Years. Stay curious, keep exploring, and always be kind. There are so many adventures ahead, and each of you has the potential to achieve amazing things.
Congratulations, Concordian Graduating Class of 2036! We are so proud of you and excited for the bright future that awaits.

2023-24 PYP Graduation:
A Celebration of Academic Excellence and Personal Growth
On June 19th, 2024, Concordian celebrated a momentous occasion with our Primary Years Programme (PYP) graduation. The ceremony marked the culmination of five years of hard work, and academic growth for these young learners. The graduating class of 2031 distinguished themselves with exceptional achievements throughout their primary years.
The students' accomplishments extended far beyond academic excellence. They represented the school with pride in various competitions, from arts and sports to academic challenges. Their dedication and talent were evident in their successes, which included winning prestigious awards and championships.
As the students transitioned from the PYP to the Middle Years Programme (MYP), they were equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in their future academic endeavors. The PYP experience fostered a love of learning, critical thinking, and a growth mindset in these young individuals, preparing them for the challenges ahead.
The graduation ceremony was a joyous occasion filled with pride and anticipation. As the graduates stepped into the MYP gym, they were met with cheers and well wishes from their teachers, classmates, and parents. And, as they received their certificates, the entire school celebrated their accomplishments and looked forward to their bright futures. The ceremony featured heartfelt speeches from school administrators and teachers

Mid-Autumn Festival
Concordian PYP students celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 17th this year with many classroom activities. All students and staff including teachers, office staff, custodians, gardeners, and guards received delicious mooncakes to share the joy of the festival.
The Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节), also known as the Moon Festival, has a deep connection with the moon. As the moon shines brightly and fully on this night, it symbolizes the gathering of family members. It is a time when families come together to celebrate, eat mooncakes, and appreciate the moon.
For those who are far away from home, the moon is like a bridge connecting people who are separated by distance. When people look at the moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival, they know that their loved ones, no matter how far away, are likely looking at the same moon. This shared experience across time and space provides comfort and a sense of connection.
Understanding the festive culture and the connection with the moon is significant, but for the students, having fun participating in the cultural activities is equally important. Every year, we prepare many fun activities in the classroom.
Students enjoyed listening to the famous story Chang E Ben Yue (Chang E Flying to the Moon), making crafts of lanterns, moons, and mooncakes, painting moon glazing, writing their wishes for moon worshiping, and wearing the pomelo peel hats.
May the bright, full moon bring joy and togetherness to you and your loved ones this Mid-Autumn Festival!
Ms. Ariel Wang Elementary
Principal
The Mid-Autumn Festival is an important celebration in China and other Asian countries, symbolizing family togetherness and the blessings of the harvest under the bright full moon.
This year, the Secondary School hosted engaging activities such as lantern riddle guessing and traditional pendant crafting. Students immersed themselves in these age-old traditions, proudly decorating their school bags and pencil cases with their handmade pendants.
On the same day, the 2nd “Shudao Cup” Calligraphy Contest provided students with a platform to showcase their artistic talents. By writing classic Mid-Autumn Festival poems, they not only connected with the poetic traditions of the past but also demonstrated their own elegant calligraphy skills.
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! 中秋节快乐!

Student Reflections:
The guess riddle activity was a nice and relaxing time to bond with friends and teachers. I had a fun time as I solved the riddle with my classmates and friends. The activity was soothing and relaxing, It also helped me to understand my capabilities in Chinese in a fun and engaging way.
G10 Gorya
This is a very fun game to play, and you have to keep an open mind to answer these difficult questions. I really like this activity, it's really fun after I know the answers to these questions. I really like this activity and I wish more people would come and join this activity because it really teaches children to be open minded and not all the answers are in the box.
G10 Tonkhing
The environment is a very friendly and very energetic place. Everyone was bustling with excitement and finding riddles to solve. I found one riddle that I like about soap. Everytime you use it, it becomes smaller. Everyone was shouting out a variety of answers. It was a very positive experience and taught me how much fun guessing riddles are.
G9 Melody林衣渟
The activity has been a truly remarkable experience for me. It has enabled me to use my critical thinking skills to solve the Chinese riddle. This activity also successfully measures my Chinese skills among my friends, and successfully proves that my Chinese skills improved a lot rapidly compared to last year.

EY and PY Wai Kru Ceremonies
On September 26th, 2024, Concordian celebrated another year of beautiful, special, and heartfelt Wai Kru Teacher Appreciation Ceremonies.
Through paying respect to their teachers, students expressed their gratitude and love. The EY and PY teachers, in return, sent their best wishes to their students.
This ceremony was especially meaningful as we embark on a new school year, fostering trust and respect between teachers and students.
The fragrance of jasmine flowers, the significance of dok-khem flowers, the soothing music, and the sight of humble students kneeling down on the floor all gently touched our hearts.
Students in the Thai instrument band, and those who performed the Thai dance beautifully demonstrated Thai culture. Our G5 student MCs, the poem reader and the officiant who led the student oath all did a remarkable job. We couldn’t be more proud of the time and effort they spent rehearsing to present such an amazing event.

Secondary Wai Kru Ceremony
Wai Kru is an annual, heartfelt ceremony at Concordian International School. Each academic year, the Thai Department organizes the Wai Kru Ceremony to emphasize the importance of education and the role of teachers, staff, and administrators.
Prior to the ceremony, MYP/DP students learned the song Phra Khun Tee Sam (The Third Gratitude), a significant song they sing together annually during the school's Wai Kru Ceremony.
Additionally, students collaborated to create paan (decorative trays), which included flower arrangements and incense candles. Two outstanding awards were given to the Grade 6-8 and Grade 9-10 houses for the best trays, contributing to house color points.
Learning the value and importance of the Wai Kru Ceremony, whether through classroom lessons or extracurricular activities, plays a key role in shaping Concordian students into well-rounded individuals.
This tradition strengthens the school community by uniting students and teachers in a shared expression of gratitude. When students reflect on their teachers' influence on their learning and personal growth, they develop a greater sense of responsibility and appreciation.

IB Professional Development Workshops Hosted by Concordian
Concordian International School was thrilled to welcome more than 350 distinguished IB educators from around the world and proudly host the IB Southeast Asia Regional Workshops during September 27th-29th, 2024.
It was truly a special occasion, where educators from diverse backgrounds came together to enhance their skills, share knowledge, and strengthen the IB community.
Concordian was excited to host such a significant event, not only because it underscores our commitment to educational excellence, but also because it provided a unique opportunity for Concordian teachers to collaborate with their peers from across the globe. Together they engaged in meaningful discussions, exchanged innovative ideas, and explored best practices in education.
The workshops focused on advancing the core principles of the IB programme, promoting inquiry-based learning and fostering a global mindset in our students.
A sincere ‘thank you’ goes out to Ms. Sally Wen, our tireless Secondary School Principal who handled the organization and logistics and whose efforts made the event not only possible but also a tremendous success. A special recognition is also given to our Concordian Ambassadors, the Secondary school students who welcomed the workshop participants and demonstrated the school’s spirit and values throughout the event.
We were proud to be part of this worldwide learning community and we look forward to the positive impact this event will have on both our students and staff.
New Faculty 2024-2025
We are delighted to introduce the talented educators who have joined Concordian from all over the world at the start of the academic year 2024-2025. Welcome, new Concordians!
Message from the Elementary Principal
Our program is unique; from the age of two, our students learn and use two foreign languages to explore the world around them. Many educators find this model fascinating, as exposure to three languages from a young age stimulates brain development in ways that differ from monolingual education.
Ms. Ariel Wang
Dear PYP Community,
In August 2024, we celebrated the start of Concordian's 24th year!
Since its establishment in 2001, Concordian has continuously sought out and selected outstanding educators from around the world to provide the best education for our students and refine our program. With the support of our community, our students are inspired to live out the school's Mission and Vision.
Our trilingual program, featuring full immersion in two foreign languages (Chinese and English), has attracted not only many interested parents but also educators globally. The program is unique; from the age of two, our students learn and use two foreign languages to explore the world around them. Many educators find this model fascinating, as exposure to three languages from a young age stimulates brain development in ways that differ from monolingual education.
English, an alphabetic language, relies on phonetic processing primarily handled by the left hemisphere of the brain. Chinese, a logographic language with characters representing words, engages both hemispheres: the left for language processing and the right for visual-spatial recognition. Thai also involves both hemispheres: the left for phonological processing and the right for tonal recognition and visual-spatial aspects of its script.
This year, our Grade 5 will continue the Chinese and English immersion model, completing our PYP program's immersion model from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5. It builds a solid foundation for students’ transition to the MYP program and continued exploration of the world with unique language and cultural perspectives.
We are confident that the 2024-2025 school year will be another fruitful year, full of happiness and growth!
Sincerely,
Ms. Ariel Wang Elementary Principal
As we start off the school year, a walk through the playgrounds brings an instant sense of energy and excitement. The laughter, movement, and creativity that fill these spaces remind us of just how important they are in the daily lives of our students. The playground isn’t just a place for fun—it’s where growth happens, where friendships are made, and where life lessons unfold in the most natural and joyful ways.
In this article, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the role our playgrounds play in shaping the minds and hearts of our children.
As we reflect on the role of playgrounds in our students' lives, it becomes clear that these spaces are much more than a break from the classroom—they are an extension of the learning environment. On the playground, students are not just having fun, they are growing in ways that will benefit them for years to come. They learn to face challenges, solve problems independently, and express themselves in ways that might not happen in a structured setting.
Message from the Elementary Principal
On the playground, students are not just having fun, they are growing in ways that will benefit them for years to come. The joy we see on our playgrounds today is laying the foundation for tomorrow’s innovators, leaders, and compassionate citizens.
Mr. Tim Byrum
The confidence they gain on the playground often translates into other areas of their lives, both academic and personal. They learn resilience when they fall and get back up, empathy when they help a friend, and joy in the simple act of running freely. These experiences build not only stronger bodies, but stronger minds and hearts, teaching lessons that will guide them long after they’ve left the playground behind.
As educators and parents, it’s easy to focus on what happens inside the classroom, but let’s also remember the vital learning that happens outside of it.
The joy we see on our playgrounds today is laying the foundation for tomorrow’s innovators, leaders, and compassionate citizens.
In celebrating our playgrounds, we celebrate the spirit of play, creativity, and connection that defines our school community. It’s a reminder that learning happens everywhere, and the lessons learned through play are just as important as those found in textbooks. So, as we continue to support and nurture these moments of growth, I look forward to seeing how our students will keep thriving—on the playground and beyond.
Thank you for joining me in recognizing the deep impact these seemingly simple spaces have on our students’ development. Here's to many more joyful, imaginative, and meaningful days on the playgrounds!

Greetings from our PYP Guidance Counselors
elcome back to school to all returning students and to all new students!
The school considers the overall wellbeing of the students very important as we want all of our students to be happy, successful, and resilient. Apart from being excellent in academics, students have been taught to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills to have social and emotional well-being.
PYP Guidance Counselors provide professional support to the Early Years and Primary Years students to help them develop age-appropriate social and emotional skills and provide assistance during times of transition, critical change, heightened stress, or other situations impeding student success. This helps the students to achieve their academic goals and career goals.

Elementary School Back to School Week
From September 9th to 13th, 2024, the PYP hosted its yearly Back to School Week event. Each day, two grade levels presented their sessions. The Primary Years sessions were held in the morning, while the Early Years sessions took place in the afternoon. This schedule allowed parents with multiple children to attend all of their children’s grade-level sessions.
The Back to School Week sessions provided parents with an opportunity to meet all their child’s teachers in one session and gain a better understanding of the grade-level curriculum, which includes Units of Inquiry, Math, Thai language, Music, PE, Visual Arts, and more.
Parents also learned about the home learning routine, classroom expectations, and received useful reminders. At the end of each session, parents were encouraged to ask questions and raise any concerns.
It was a great pleasure to see parents actively participating in these sessions. We appreciate all the hard work our teachers put into preparing their presentations. When the school-home partnership is strong, positive communication and collaboration naturally follow. We look forward to a successful year ahead with you!

Message from the Secondary Principals
Our goal is to provide a supportive, innovative learning environment where students can identify and experience meaningful connections between their study and the real world.
Ms. Min Li
Higher, Faster, Stronger - Together
Watching the Olympic Games in Paris this past summer, I believe, like me, you were inspired again by the incredible achievements and the spirit of self-challenge from the athletes and their teams. At our school, we also strive to nurture our students to reach their fullest potential and achieve excellence in all they do. But how can we ensure excellence and continued growth in the MYP program, specifically, this school year?
In addition to the high-quality learning and teaching already thriving in our classrooms, our professional teaching team will continue to emphasize interdisciplinary learning that connects subjects, school sections, and the wider communities within and beyond our campus. Our goal is to provide a supportive, innovative learning environment where students can identify and
experience meaningful connections between their study and the real world. By integrating authentic experiences–whether through academics, service, projects, or activities–we challenge students to tackle real-world issues and needs. This approach equips them with the transformative thinking and adaptability needed to succeed in the ever-changing world.
The well-received guest speaker, Dr. Shanton Chang, highlighted the importance of focusing on skills clusters rather than specific professions when planning career paths. In the MYP Programme, Approaches to Learning (ATL) Skills have been strategically weaved into the written, taught, and assessed curriculum to ensure students going through the MYP years can develop both hard and soft skills for future success.
After five consecutive years of intensive vertical mapping and implementing ATL skills in subjects and projects, MYP teachers have now set horizontal, grade-level ATL skills. Teachers across all subjects will collaborate to teach these core skills through authentic projects and activities, fostering lifelong learners with transferable, comprehensive skill sets.
Over the years, Concordian students have proven to be solid practitioners of our school mission, showcasing excellence, responsibility, and compassion.
Each year, as new goals guide the learning and teaching, our Concordian Team continues to support our students in taking confident steps toward their dreams.
Together, we will be higher, faster, and stronger!
Ms. Min Li Secondary School Principal
Although we encourage our students to excel academically, we highly recommend our students also get involved in at least some of the extracurricular activities that we have going on at Concordian.
Mr. Bill Berry
Welcome back to a new academic year! As usual, we have many activities going on at the beginning of the school year. G8-10 have gone on their bonding trips, G11 on the DP retreat, and G12 on the College Applications trip. We have quite a few field trips planned this year, as well as new service trips for our G6-8 to explore. Week Without Walls trips are just around the corner, the student governments are working on the Talent show, G11 on Lhung Baan 3, the production of Romeo and Juliet is in rehearsals, @SA/Creative Minds Academy classes have started up and, of course, all the first season sports are in full swing.
We said goodbye to the Class of 2024, but gained a new class of G6 students and they have settled in and are becoming an active part of the Middle School. We also said goodbye to some of our teachers and welcomed new teachers this year. Please check out the New Teacher section of Impact to see who they are and what they teach.
Although we encourage our students to excel academically, we highly recommend our students also get involved in at least some of the extracurricular activities that we have going on at Concordian. We have a wide variety of activities so I’m sure our students can find something that they will enjoy. These extracurricular activities help make the school year more enjoyable for students and can later be used in their college applications to show they are well rounded individuals.
As usual, I wish you a great year and if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Secondary Back to School Night
Back to School Night, held on September 10th, 2024, is always a special occasion, filled with excitement and anticipation.
Entering the bustling MYP and DP hallways, the air is filled with chatter and laughter. Parents smile, exchanging stories and experiences, while students proudly show their families around, pointing out classrooms and favorite spots.
Teachers greet parents with warm smiles, welcoming them into the new school year. The atmosphere is a blend of curiosity and shared hopes for the months ahead. Moments like these highlight the importance of community.
As the crowd navigates through the event, the power of connection becomes evident. Parents greet each other, teachers discuss plans for the year, and students excitedly chat about the adventures that lie ahead. Each interaction strengthens the bonds that make the school feel like a family.
Throughout the evening, the collaboration and enthusiasm are vivid, showcasing the commitment of everyone involved. This evening serves as a reminder that everyone is part of a community united by a common goal: to nurture and support the growth of every child.
As the new school year begins, let’s carry the spirit of Back to School Night forward. Continuing to connect, collaborate, and celebrate the unique contributions each person brings to the community will ensure a year filled with growth, learning, and unforgettable memories!

Meet Ms. Diane Coon Secondary Dean of Students
Ms. Diane Coon joined Concordian in 2020 as a member of the Secondary Physical Education Department. Most of our students and parents may also know Ms. Diane as the Personal Project Coordinator, supporting our Grade 10 students with their endeavors over several years.
In early 2024, Ms. Diane took on a new challenge as the Secondary Dean of Students. Let’s find out more about Ms. Diane and this exciting new role.
Impact: Please tell us about yourself.
Ms. Diane: I am originally from a coastal town in Massachusetts and I have always been a sports lover - I was enrolled in my first basketball league at 6 years old. Throughout high school and into university, I continued this passion in my studies and free time as I focused primarily on volleyball. After experiencing the joy and challenges of a service trip to Uganda sponsored by my university, I fell in love with something new - international education. After completing my Bachelor’s in Sport Communication, I was accepted to the United States Peace Corps. I served as a TEFL volunteer in the Peace Corps for the full two year program in Eastern Europe and continued my journey abroad from there. I then pursued a Master’s degree in Secondary Education and sought work in an IB World School where I became the Athletic Director and taught Physical and Health Education.
Impact: Why did you choose Thailand for your international career and what are some aspects that you enjoy most about living here?
Ms. Diane: Have you ever looked at how wide the map really is? Do you ever think about how many places and people are out there? This is a question that often darts across our dinner table, as both my husband and I are interested in new cultures, ideas, people, and experiences. We were ready for new opportunities and a completely new culture, so we did what we always do - imagine big! We took the world map and metaphorically threw darts, discussing all different cultures and experiences that we had not yet had. We eventually settled on South East Asia, as we had only each been once. From there, Thailand felt like it was calling to us as there are IB schools here, nature, tourism, and so many other beautiful places to see. Personally, I wanted warm weather and to take a break from winters - which has been very nice. It helps that Bangkok is a hub for international experiences and interconnectedness.
Impact: How has being at Concordian made you a better person and a better teacher?
Ms. Diane: At Concordian, I have had many opportunities to grow. In PHE, I have had the chance to refine my teaching with an incredibly supportive team who foster my wild ideas and help our team make them a reality. I genuinely feel grateful everyday that I work with the PHE team. When I was selected as Personal Project Coordinator, this was another opportunity for me to grow as a teacher. Something I think students do not realize is that many of my Personal Project students have inspired and impacted me more than I could have ever imagined. The passion, the drive, the kindness - there are many elements of that process that I learned from the students.
Impact: Please share more about your role as Dean of Students.
Ms. Diane: As the Secondary Dean of Students, my primary role is an advocate for students and student life. Yes, I do oversee and monitor disciplinary actions and the application of the Code of Conduct, but that is not the primary objective in my day to day. I want to support students in advocating for their own experience. It is my goal to help students see that when they have a problem, there are pathways to try to find compromise or solve their problem in the long term.
While it is not always possible to get the ideal solution, in working collaboratively with students, I aim to teach them these valuable skills that they can continue using in their lifelong learning journey. Something simple like when to apologize, how to compromise, how to approach challenges, or even when a disagreement ends with no result or change - these are all real world issues that they will face on their own throughout University and their job field. I view my office as a complete open-door policy and I encourage all students to use it. Whether it is just to check in or there is an obstacle in their way, I want to help students have the best experience they can while at school.
I heard once from a mentor that teachers always want to be the teacher they needed when they were in school, and I hope that for my role as Dean.
Thank you very much for taking the time to interview me. I look forward to an exciting and rewarding year ahead working with all the Dragons. My door is always open!
Secondary Counseling Update
As the new academic year unfolds at Concordian International School, the Secondary Counseling Department has had a very exciting start to the year. We're delighted to welcome Ms. Johanna who joins the University Counseling section, bringing a wealth of experience in guiding students through the complexities of applying to university. Her expertise will be invaluable as she helps our students navigate the path to university admissions and career choices.
In the Social Emotional Counseling team, we're pleased to introduce Ms. Sze Wan and Ms. Lindsay. Both are passionate about student wellbeing and very experienced in helping students in their social and emotional development. Their dedication to fostering a supportive environment aligns perfectly with our mission to nurture every student.
It's not all change as Mr. Tony and Ms. Bee are here to help their new colleagues settle into the department and ensure continuity for our students and parents
The school year commenced with a flurry of activities designed to enhance student engagement and development. Our team participated in the Grade 8-10 Bonding Trips, important experiences that strengthened relationships between students and staff. These trips provided a platform for students to build trust, collaborate, and develop other essential skills for their personal and academic journeys.
Additionally, the University Preparation and the IB Retreat, led by Mr. Markus, offered Grade 11 and 12 students invaluable insights into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. These trips are planned to equip students with the tools they need for success in applying to university and IB Diploma.
The success of all these trips are due to the hard work of many people in the school, but the department deeply appreciates the support of Khun Varnnee, Khun Kay and everyone in Mr. Ben’s Service Department.
The University Counseling team has enjoyed meeting parents of Grades 8-12, offering guidance on career exploration and the university application process. These meetings are very important in empowering our parents to help support their children in making informed decisions about their future careers and university plans.
The highlight of September was hosting Dr. Shanton Chang from the University of Melbourne. His enlightening talk on "Developing 21st Century skills for an AI-driven post-pandemic world" captivated our parent community. Addressing the rapid advancements in technology and the evolving skill sets r equired in the modern world, his presentation sparked meaningful discussions about education and career readiness.
The overwhelming positive response led to Dr. Shanton agreeing to extend his visit and speak to the entire Secondary school. His ability to engage with students across Grades 8-12 was truly inspiring, providing them with a broader perspective on the impact of technology and the importance of adaptable skills in their future career.
Recognizing the unique needs of each student group, we've restructured our Social Emotional team to provide more tailored support. We now have dedicated counselors assigned to specific year groups:
• Ms. Bee will focus on Grades 6-7, aiding students as they transition into secondary school and navigate early adolescence.
• Ms. Sze Wan takes on Grades 8-9, guiding students through critical developmental stages and academic challenges.
• Ms. Lindsay will support Grades 10-12, assisting students with the pressures of upper secondary education and preparations for university and beyond.
This strategic approach ensures that each student receives personalized attention, fostering stronger relationships and more effective support systems. We will also be fully implementing the International School Counsellor Association (ISCA) Model to guide our department's practices. This model provides a comprehensive framework that aligns with international best practices, emphasizing proactive and data-informed counseling services.
We encourage students and parents to reach out to our counselors—whether to seek guidance, share concerns, or explore new opportunities!

Thai Curriculum Coffee Morning for Parents
Concordian International School offers a trilingual curriculum in Thai, English, and Chinese and the school places great importance on instilling a sense of Thai identity, fostering an awareness of preserving Thai culture and wisdom, as well as focusing on developing and nurturing students to have knowledge, skills, and a positive attitude toward learning.
The MYP Thai Department invited interested Grades 6-10 parents to a Parent Coffee Morning on September 30th, 2024, to introduce how the school's vision is integrated into the Thai Language, Thai Culture, and Thai History curriculum. The meeting also served as an opportunity for parents to ask questions and explore ways to support and enhance students' ability to learn Thai effectively and enjoyably.

Sustainability Expo Field Trip
Good Balance, Better World. This was the theme of the 2024 Sustainability Expo that G9 and G10 students had the opportunity to visit on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024.
SX2024 reminded us of issues we collectively need to address in order to create a better world, and showed us an exciting array of local entrepreneurs, artists and businesses already on the way to making a positive change.
The specific exhibits that students engaged with were:
• SEP INSPIRATION: the impact of individual actions on sustainability through interactive exhibits and from leaders in global and national sustainability efforts.
• BETTER ME: adopting a sustainable lifestyle focused on nutrition and mental health to improve long-term personal well-being.
• BETTER LIVING: climate adaptation strategies, innovative solutions, and lifestyle changes aimed at achieving net-zero emissions and mitigating climate change.
• BETTER COMMUNITY: successful social, environmental, and economic projects that foster inclusive communities through collaborations from various sectors.
• BETTER WORLD: artworks that highlight sustainability.
This demonstration of “Good Balance, Better World” across these domains helped students connect deeply with the IB’s mission of fostering international-mindedness by considering the inter-connected layers of individual, local, national and international actions. This trip also aligned with our goals in the MYP programme of contextualizing student learning in real-world, authentic issues that impact our everyday lives.
Ms. Rachel Samson MYP Coordinator
Student Reflections:
The Better Me booth was connected to the SDG 3: Good Health and Well being. They addressed a global community need through using a robot that helps the elderly to make doctor appointments, stores their medical records and appointment history and makes the reception process more streamlined. This booth stood out to me because it uses modern technology such as robots and AI to address global community needs.
Paris (G9)
I liked the climate change countdown booth which is associated with SDG 14 climate change. I like this booth because it tells us how urgent the problem is and how we only have 4 years before it is too late. This booth made me change my view on climate change because at first I thought climate change would take a long time but it is actually fast approaching and we must do something major about it within 4 years.
Kenta (G9)
Thai Union Booth was connected to SDG goal number 14 Life Below Water. The community needed help in making energy, specifically communities near water, so they decided to make water generators that are easy to function for the locals. This booth stood out as it is not about how fancy the invention/program is, but more how functional or how easily the people who actually need it can use it.
Icon (G9)
This booth addresses a community's needs locally. They mainly focus on Thailand's environmental and climate change. They are planning to accelerate the climate transition to ensure our safety against climate change by developing solar panels and studying indexes. My thinking has been affected positively by the booth to care about our environment and understand consequences if not solved or taken seriously with thoughtful action. This stood out to me because my personal project is about the heat in Thailand which is extremely similar. I could take the information I gained from the booth to improve and further develop my product.
booth that really stood out to me was the wheel chair booth. The booth addressed the problem where the population of old people is increasing but less people are giving birth. There are less people who can help themselves. Their solution was to invent machines for old people for them to take care of themselves. After learning more about them my thinking changed. Now I realized I have to help my parents in the future, meaning I should encourage them to exercise to stay healthy. I thought it was very creative and a good idea so it stood out to me, helping the elderly was something I had to experience sooner or later.
I got to visit a sensory simulation, which allowed visitors to experience what it is like to be disabled by losing certain senses like our sight and hearing. For the blind portion, we used a blindfold and walking sticks and learned how to use our other senses to detect our surroundings, and we also got to learn sign language as we immersed ourselves into what it’s like to be deaf. After going through this simulation, I realized how challenging these peoples’ daily lives are. For example, the floor bumps for the blind although they help them navigate to different places, they are actually really hard to use and feel with the walking stick. Plum (G10)

Welcome back from the Middle School Student Government
t’s an honor for all 15 of us (Term, Ivy, Sureen, Mungbean, Keit, Don, Dol, Hannah, Kao, Drake, Mona, Pisa, Porsche, Neala, Peang-Or) to be part of the MSSG. We will dedicate our time, effort, and hardwork in order to represent the 2024-2025 Middle School student body. For the first time in Concordian, the MSSG is divided into three separate committees: Media, Events and Advocacy, in which each committee is led by a Vice-President. Moreover, there will be a president (Term) who will oversee and help with all of the MSSG’s work.
First of all, the Advocacy team, led by Mungbean (along with Keit, Don, and Porsche), will play a pivotal role in seeking out ideas, suggestions, and wants from the student body. This can be done with various methods, such as sending out Google forms to keep track of the student body’s wants and interests, or simply letting an MSSG member receive feedback from their peers on a daily basis. While the media and events team have existed in the MSSG for the past few years, the advocacy has been recently added to the student government due to the fact
that it is our responsibility and duty to take actions and make changes that are based upon student wants. Therefore, the Advocacy committee can make sure that the opinions within the student body will be met.
Secondly, the Events team, led by Sureen (along with Drake, Hannah, Peang-Or, Neala, and Mona) will take the lead in scheduling, organizing, planning and executing a variety of events aimed at enhancing student engagement and school spirit. This committee will focus on planning large-scale and exciting events, ensuring that students have opportunities to connect with each other and enjoy their time at school.
The Events team will gather input from the student body through the surveys and forms from the Advocacy team, ensuring that the events reflect the interests of the school community. By creating a balanced calendar of events, the team will not only bring students together but also create lasting memories and a more vibrant campus experience.
Last but not least, the Media team, led by Ivy (along with Kao, Pisa, and Dol) will be promoting events and updating the student body on the MSSG’s actions. This will be done by sending out posters and flyers which will be attached in the morning announcements, weekly assemblies, and/or the bulletin boards all over our school. Therefore, the media team is playing a crucial role in advertising MSSG activities, communicating with newsletters, and most importantly capturing memorable moments during countless events that are yet to come to life in this school year.
As the middle school student government, we will ensure that this year will be filled with positive change, thrilling events, and memorable moments. With 3 crucial committees and 15 students representing their peers and giving back to their beloved community, the MSSG are more than ready to create an extraordinary school year for the student body to remember.
Sincerely, Term,
MSSG President

The high school student government is thrilled for all events to be back in full swing this year! We have many events planned for this year, including the annual Secondary School Talent Show, Halloween and Valentine’s Day celebrations, the 100 Days of School celebration, various sports days and Spirit Weeks, and more! We are also excited to support various events led by other groups, such as the Lhung Baan School Build fundraiser and the PTA’s Festival of Love and Zanook Festival. Recently, the student government has completed auditions for this year’s Secondary School Talent Show, and we were pleased to see so much talent on display from our student body. This year’s show, which will be held on January 10th,
2025 is sure to be one to remember. With the theme of “Back to the Decades,” performers will align their act to a decade of their choosing. Mark your calendars, because this will be spoken of for “decades” to come.

Food For All
Food for All is a club dedicated to providing nutritious meals to those in need—whether humans or animals—aligned with SDG 2: Zero Hunger. Our mission is to ensure that no one around us goes to bed hungry.
Last year, we focused on fundraising and purchasing pre-made food or ingredients for donations. During our three charity trips, we used the funds raised from events like FOL and Zanook to buy the requested food items. This year, as part of our rebranding, Food for All will be taking a more hands-on approach. We’ll start preparing our own meals and donating the dishes we create. Beyond giving, members will also learn how to cook nutritious food that benefits everyone.
Stay tuned for the exciting things we have in store!

Saturday School
Saturday School Global was founded to address the gaps in the Thai education system, particularly in providing opportunities beyond the traditional classroom setting. Our mission is to equip Thai students with the same opportunities for growth and life skills that international students enjoy, by having international students teach and support underprivileged youth.
This summer, a group of international school students volunteered at a Thai school every Saturday, teaching younger students a range of topics—from basic English, like prepositions, to more advanced subjects, such as describing cold symptoms. In addition to the regular Saturday classes, we celebrated Saturday School’s 10th anniversary on August 17th by hosting a booth where we taught English and took the knowledge we taught to even more kids.
Looking ahead, Saturday School plans to introduce even more lesson plans and engaging classes throughout this school year!

Service
Appreciation Day
During the last week of the 2023-24 Academic Year, the Secondary School hosted its second annual MYP Service & Community Appreciation Day which helped showcase how important service is to the Concordian community through a variety of exhibitions, interactive activities, and displays of appreciation.
As was the case with the inaugural event, the day was divided into three clear, and different sessions - Action, Sharing and Fun. First thing in the morning, when the students were full of energy, we undertook Action.
During this session, MYP students rotated between four activities: sorting recycling, packing care packages to be delivered to a community in need in Bang Na, interacting with a service-centered art installation, and writing thank you notes to members of the Concordian community that help to create a safe learning environment for us year round.
The recycling activity saw students help teachers clear recyclables from their classrooms, as well as sorting out recyclable material from their lockers, and recyclable materials that had been collected throughout the year.
The care package activity saw middle school students help one of our high school service clubs, The Giving Club, pack bags with food and toiletries which were then delivered to
All the products that were packed had been bought from funds that The Giving Club raised throughout the year.
The art installation activities saw students create personalized paper butterflies which were then stuck to a frame. Students could write notes on the butterflies, or simply decorate them, but the final installation of a many different coloured paper butterflies creating a larger butterfly symbolized that we are all one community changing and developing in our own ways.
And the final activity of the morning saw students writing thank you notes to all members of the Concordian community working on campus, from teachers to administration, from security guards to gardeners, from technicians to drivers - all members were represented, and students had a chance to thank everyone for making our school what it is.
After the active morning session, it was time to move on to Sharing.
During this session, students rotated between three areas, with the showpiece being the Grade 9 Service Exhibition in which the Grade 9 students exhibited their service projects to all other MYP students. The Grade 9 service groups each had a booth to showcase their projects, and discuss how their actions impacted their chosen communities. In addition to the Grade 9 Service Exhibition, service projects from the other MYP grades (six, seven, eight and ten) were displayed throughout the exhibition area for everyone to see.
When students were not visiting the Grade 9 exhibition, they were able to visit two other rooms to listen to even more examples of service in our community: one where teachers shared their personal connection to service throughout their lives, and one where all of our high school service clubs could interact with middle school students to show them future service possibilities at Concordian.
The final activity of the Sharing session saw a special guest speaker, Mr. Dean Madeira, from Operation Smile Thailand. Mr. Madeira spoke to all of our students about how finding a passion and giving mentality early in life can lead to lifetime of compassion and giving even once he entered into the professional world. His speech also highlighted Concordian’s special connection to Operation Smile Thailand which has included many medical missions over the years.
After working and sharing all morning, it was finally time for Fun. During this session, the students took part in two sporting activities that were meant to show possible ways to fundraise for worthy causes. The first activity was a small ‘knockout’ tournament: a basketball shooting game the students are familiar with from their PHE classes, while the second was a dodgeball competition that included a students vs. teachers game.
As with the inaugural event the year before, our second edition of the MYP Service & Community Appreciation Day was a wonderful day that allowed our secondary students to share their service experiences from the academic year, as well as come together to give thanks to each other, and continue to make our community a giving, appreciative and caring place.

Grade 8 Bonding Trip
The G8 bonding trip was a very challenging, but rewarding one. Though the bus trip seemed like forever, once we arrived at the meditation center in Khao Yai, we had lots of fun exploring the place.
Having arrived safely at our destination, we snacked upon snacks that were delightfully tasty, and then went off to see our sleeping quarters, before participating in a few bonding and recreational activities until late at night.
The next day, a few very energetic people decided to wake up early to go jogging while the rest of us woke up more slowly. The breakfast that followed was hearty, and we walked around the beautiful lake a few times and did walking meditation. I thought it was a good meditation that had a deeper meaning, with our walk across the lake symbolizing the depths of happiness and achieving tranquility. Later we did more bonding and
recreational activities such as a game of whisper and numerical groupings. For dinner we went to Midwinter and had a fantastic buffet of spaghetti carbonara, pizza, and some of the best roasted meat ever! We had fun playing card games, there was a live performance outside and we had a grand time on the balcony watching. The night was cheerful and we had a good time. Once we arrived back at the mindfulness center, we watched the movie Inside Out 2 before finally going back to our sleeping halls.
The final morning was peaceful and breakfast was followed by three more laps along the pond, where we pondered over questions and became more aware of the world around us. Then we settled for some more activities and a tasty lunch before we boarded the bus home. It was a very wholesome journey where we were able to connect with our peers in Grade 8.

Grade 9 Bonding Trip
Day 1:
On the first day of our Grade 9 bonding trip, we left school after lunch and arrived at Pattaya in the afternoon. Then our first official bonding trip activity was the money game and drawing game. These activities showed how creative we can be while also being a warm up activity for our bonding weekend. The last for the day was speed chatting. It feels like a tradition of the bonding trips as it allows everyone in the grade to have a bit of time to chat with each other, especially for the ones that aren't really close or haven’t talked before.
Day 2:
On the morning of the second day, we went to the Pattaya Redemptorist School for the Blind. When we arrived, the chaperones told us to put blindfolds on and led us down the bus. We were greeted by a buddy who walked us up to the assembly hall. During the assembly, it was revealed that the buddies who led us up were blind but they knew exactly where slopes and stairs were and how many steps were on the stairs. It was truly astonishing how even when they were blind they were able to navigate like that. After the assembly finished, we went down to learn the lan-
guage of the blind, Braille. It was a perplexing combination of unnatural writing techniques and finding the corresponding letters. However, the girl who taught us was remarkably accurate. While we were all struggling to understand braille this blind girl was doing it so effortlessly. Next, we went to play Goalball (a mix of handball and bowling), a sport created for the blind. We had the privilege to learn and play against the national team's Goalball athletes. As an athlete, losing my sense of sight was a hard thing to overcome. It was amazing to see how precise the athletes were as they were able to save almost everything. From going to the blind school, I
learned that even with a disability those kids were able to have fun and make the best of their situation. I learned that we often take things for granted; and that even though we have all the necessities we still want more in order to be happy.
Day 3:
On the final day of our bonding weekend our two main activities were the gratitude letter which is like a tradition of our bonding trips and a session with Khun Varnnee
regarding bad words. In the gratitude letter, we write something about everyone on their papers on how we appreciate them as our schoolmates, classmates, friends, or best friends. It had us reflect on our past memories with different people and learn to appreciate them no matter if the past we might have had with them was great or not. Personally, I like this activity as it makes us learn to appreciate others and all the little messages our friends write will be kept in our memories forever.

Grade 10 Bonding Trip
This year, I had the opportunity to go on a memorable bonding trip with my class. This was my first ever bonding trip and it was an amazing experience. One of the highlights for me was visiting the elderly home. We played bingo together, which brought so much laughter and joy. We danced together, and I was surprised at how good the elderly citizens at the home were at dancing. They were definitely better than me, and their enthusiasm was what made this visit truly memorable.
After that, we traveled to Khao Yai and we stayed at this beautiful mindfulness center. The place was very calming and it made me feel free from stress. We did a ton of activities and I feel like these games really brought us together as a class.
The food was another highlight. Each meal was a chance to relax and get to talk to other people. I feel like we were eating every three hours. I definitely did not go to sleep hungry!
I also got to know my classmates a bit better on this trip and I definitely made some great friends. We went on morning walks everyday before breakfast and it was a nice way to start the day. We even wrote reflections afterward, which really helped us think deeply about all of our experiences both during the bonding trip, or in general.
On the last day, we had a special activity where everyone got a piece of paper, and we wrote short gratitude messages to each other. Reading those notes was a wonderful way to wrap up the trip and I felt so happy to receive such kind messages from my classmates.
Overall, this bonding trip was an incredible experience for me as a new student and it allowed me to make some great friendships. This is for sure a trip I'll remember!

Grade 11 DP Retreat
A healthy mind in a healthy body! This year’s DP retreat took place at Pattana Sports Resorts during the third week of school. The purpose of the trip was for the G11 students to learn about the intricacies of the Diploma Program while exposing them to challenging outdoor activities. Some of the students are sharing their reflections of the experience below.
Mr. Markus DP Coordinator
Thinking back on our G11 DP retreat, I believe that this is one of those moments that I will always treasure. Especially, the moment around the campfire is the one I will cherish for years to come. In that moment, as we sat side by side, I realized how close we’d all become over the course of this retreat through various activities. I’ll never forget when all the girls started crying, and I cried too, as we reminisced about everything that had happened throughout our journey and how we’ll eventually grow apart after graduation. It was a trip filled with memories that I’ll cherish forever, a reminder of how powerful friendship can be when we go through these moments together. Live Laugh Love Class of 2026 :)
The IB retreat was an amazing experience. The activities were well balanced throughout our stay, allowing us to not only participate in physical activities but also let us learn about the IB curriculum, we got to engage in activities such as Kayaking and buggy cart-building. Moreover, it was a great bonding experience with my peers and teachers.
Kate
This IB retreat really put the "treat" in "retreat"! I really enjoyed the obstacle course and the kayaking, because we got to leave the comfort of AC, embracing the humid and sticky outdoors. I particularly enjoyed Yong repeatedly falling on the "Pirate Island" obstacle. Eclectically sprinkled in-between were informative sessions on college and the DP--courtesy of Mr. Markus and the college counselors. The mix of educational and fun was on point--the tone is definitely set for a challenging, yet fun and educational two years!
Burger
Looking back on our IB retreat it was certainly a “one to remember” trip. The boys pushed us out of our comfort zone, particularly those who were scared of heights—definitely not me (ahem ahem). This trip truly highlighted the essence of the “IB learner profiles”: being knowledgeable, balanced, and willing to take risks. Beyond the educational activities, the group work fostered our collaboration, setting an optimistic note for the upcoming challenges of the DP.
Grade 12 University Preparation Trip
Our work with Grade 12 began this year with our annual University Preparation trip to Pattaya. Our first stop was the breathtaking Sanctuary of Truth, a stunning architectural marvel that left us all in awe as we explored its intricate carvings and learned about its rich cultural significance. Sanctuary of Truth was the perfect start to the weekend as it put us all in a positive mind to tackle the rest of the activities planned for the weekend.
After arriving at our accommodation it was all systems go for the rest of the weekend as we worked on finalizing university lists, checking documentation was correct, updating CVs, signing up to application systems such as Commonapp and UCAS, and requesting Teacher References. In between these group activities we also spent a lot of time working individually with students on university essays, Thai medical portfolios and art portfolios.
We also had a very valuable talk by Mr. Jay, a successful IB graduate, who shared his invaluable insights into the college application process and his personal experiences as a university student.
The University Trip is such a key part of our student’s journey to university as it is an opportunity for them to complete many of the small but essential tasks that they need to apply to university. The Counseling Department would like to thank Khun Varnnee, Khun Kay, Mr. Jay, Ms. Mint and Ms. Fah for all of their support and valuable work over the weekend.
Football JV Boys
The 2024 season is up and running for the JV Boys Football team. We lost six starters to the Varsity team, so it is time for the younger guys to step up. They may lack experience but they certainly make up for it with enthusiasm. This group is the most dedicated group we have had at Concordian. They play every day at lunch and after school. They are just addicted to football and it’s awesome to see.
It will be a challenging season. Other schools have academy players and scholarship players, but these boys will give it their best no matter what. They always give 100% effort, really play for one another and support each other like a team should.
We have had three matches already. We beat TCIS in the opener, lost a close one to EIS in the second match and then won a tight one over KMIDS, despite missing several key players to injury. Unfortunately, the matches vs ASB Green Valley and KISB were called off because ASB forfeited and KISB was rained out.
There are 12 players on our active roster and 6 players on our reserve team. However, all of them are an integral part of this excellent group that we have.
We will report on how the rest of our season goes in the next issue of Impact, but for now, stay tuned, as we have six league games, a league tournament and an invitational tournament in Chiang Mai still to play. No matter what, the boys will have a fun year of football.
Football
JV Girls
The JV Girls Football team is a group with a lot of potential. Our season is very short and we started practice right at the beginning of the school year. With just a couple of practices we had our first game where we scored first, but the game ended with an undeserved defeat 1-2 against Berkeley. We had many chances but we felt the lack of practice, chances that, today we are scoring without problem, were missed.
The team has good spirit and a great attitude. Then the following games were 2 home victories against KIS (3-0) and Wells (2-1) as we performed as a solid team. Our fourth game was a clear defeat at Mahidol for 4-1. Our goalkeeper couldn’t make the game and obviously we missed her, plus we had 2 injured players during the game which impacted our performance. Our last game was a home game against ASB SK and our performance was outstanding, a 10-0 victory where after half time I had to ask the girls to pass the ball and make nice combinations rather than pushing and trying to score…always fair play!
The last event of the season was the AISAA Tournament, hosted at Mahidol, where our team once again delivered an outstanding performance. We started with an epic victory against Mahidol, winning 1-0, followed by another win against KIS, 2-0. ASB SV had a surprisingly strong tournament, finishing 3rd despite being last in the league. We faced them in the semi-final, winning 1-0. The last game of the season was probably the toughest our team has ever faced. Mahidol even changed the venue to a larger field, thinking it would give them more chances to win. With a national team player on their side, we unfortunately lost the final 2-1. However, it was a close game where either team could have won. This tournament was an amazing experience and a great learning opportunity for our players. We played as a TEAM, with sacrifice, cooperation, confidence, and always with Fair Play. As coaches, we couldn’t be prouder of this group of players. Congratulations!

All of our hitters, including several Seniors such as: Ty, Gumlaap, and Thun, are ready to make an impact.Ty’s finesse helps him find gaps in defenses, while Gumlaap’s explosive jumps and competitive spirit make him a constant scoring threat. Thun’s agility and versatility keep our offensive options wide open. Alongside them, we feature several other seniors in essential roles.
Looking Ahead
As we refine our skills and strengthen our connection, we have the rest of the season to look forward to. Our team is excited to build for the upcoming tournament on November 1st and 2nd. Leadership on the Court
Central to our success are our standout setter Mei (Grade 11), our leading middle hitter Homdaeng (Grade 11), and an all-star outside hitter Bam (Grade 12). Each brings unique skills and leadership to the floor, ensuring our team operates smoothly during matches.
Mei excels in her ability to read the game, making quick, strategic decisions that elevate our play. Homdaeng complements her with a fierce competitive spirit and a knack for blocking powerful attacks. Bam, the senior of the trio, brings experience, poise and a strong outside wing, guiding her teammates with confidence and encouragement.
Growing Together
This team combines experience with a hunger to grow. Each player is committed to honing their skills and building their competitive edge, which is crucial as we navigate the season. The bond among teammates strengthens our play, allowing us to adapt and rise to any challenge.

Instrumental Music Concert 2024
On May 30th, 2024, Secondary school instrumental music students from grades 7 to 12 celebrated their successful learning throughout the 2023-2024 school year by performing a variety of musical genres, including band literature, jazz, pop, etc. One of the highlights of the concert was honoring a graduating grade 12 student, who had been a truly dedicated member of the band throughout both MYP and DP. We congratulated him, along with all the younger musicians, for their outstanding achievements.
Ms. Hyesun Chung
Chamber Music Concert 2024
On June 18th, 2024, we enjoyed a delightful evening of Chamber Music. The program featured a variety of musical styles performed by small ensembles, including solos, duets, trios, and quartets. Instrumental music students also showcased their vocal talents by singing along with the ensembles. Collaborating with a guest singer was an exciting experience for all the performers. It was a wonderful way to end the school year!
One World Festival 2024
On June 21st, 2024, Concordian International School came together for our spectacular celebration known as the “One World Festival.” This event brought students, teachers, and parents together for a day filled with fun, food, and festivities.
Students were sorted into four continents: North America, Antarctica, Asia, and Oceania. Each group embraced the spirit of their assigned region through colorful costumes and engaging activities. Sodexo setup tables with delicious food items from around the world.
The students’ costumes were excellent. The games and activities were colorful and fun. The students had a wonderful time while learning about different regions of the world.
The student council played a significant role in the festival, setting up a takoyaki stand game in Asia and a penguin bowling game in Antarctica. Teacher volunteers were on hand to help students make grass skirts in Oceania and paper ponchos in North America, adding a creative touch to the festivities.
A special mention must go to the amazing class parents, whose efforts were instrumental in making the day a success. They organized a variety of active and engaging games for students from Pre-K to Grade 5, ensuring that every child had a memorable experience.
The One World Festival was a testament to the Concordian community’s spirit of collaboration. It was a day where students not only had fun but also gained a deeper appreciation for the different regions that make up our world. The students, parents and teachers were able to come together on the last day of the school year one final time to celebrate our amazing community.

Giggles and Melodies
Pre-K and K1 Music Concert 2024
Looking back on the incredible success of our Pre-K and K1 music concert, Giggles and Melodies, on June 6 and June 7, 2024, makes us extremely ecstatic.
Seeing the pride and happiness on parents' faces while they watched the youngest Concordian members perform songs in both Chinese and English was a touching sight. Each student performed with joy and did a wonderful job on stage. Our little superstars were excited to see their parents in the audience cheering for them and taking multiple photos capturing every single detail of their exceptional performance in their colorful costumes.
Pre-KC & Pre-KS’ opening number, Melodies in the Drizzle was fantastic! Pre-KI & Pre-KD’s Singing in the Garden performance was captivating! All Pre-K melted the hearts of the crowd with
their lovely rendition of Skidamarink a Dink a Dink! This was followed by the K1I & K1S’ lively song and movements, I’ve Got the Rhythm and thereafter, an endearing performance of You are Beautiful When You Smile. K1C & K1D’s buoyant and dynamic Berry, Berry Strawberry presentation brought everyone on their feet, much more so with their Chinese song, Little Flower. The show concluded with all the Pre-K and K1 high-spiritedly singing with actions, Tap a Do Re Mi.
A huge thank you to all the PK and K1 parents, our administrators, homeroom teachers, specialist teachers, support teachers, teaching assistants, staff, and custodians for the strong support and assistance that you have provided which made this unforgettable event possible.
Extremely grateful, Mrs. Maricor, Ms. Norylove and Ms. Ting
Shanghai Internship
24 June - 19 July 2024
During the month of July, 2024, 14 Concordian Grade 11 students were fortunate to participate in the Internship Program with CP Group in Shanghai. This Shanghai Internship program at Superbrand Mall offers students a unique and unforgettable opportunity to immerse into one of the world’s fastest growing and most dynamic cities while gaining professional experiences. Through understanding the behind-the-scenes of the a 13-floor shopping center placed right next to the heart of Shanghai, students gain valuable insights into the complexities of a shopping center.
The students who participated in the program are Pailin, Dou Dou,
and
On the next pages, we share some of their reflections on the experience.
The lively streets of Shanghai pulse with energy—vendors shout as the smoky aroma of 羊肉串 (lamb skewers) drifts through the air. This summer, I had the unique opportunity to intern at Shanghai’s renowned Super Brand Mall. Throughout the experience, I witnessed firsthand how Chinese businesses prioritize swift and decisive action, starkly contrasting with the more process-oriented, cross-departmental communication prevalent in Western organizations. While the latter often leads to delays through layers of bureaucracy, Chinese companies focus on efficiency, moving quickly to seize opportunities. Working in this fast-paced environment not only deepened my understanding of these differences but also pushed me to grow linguistically. Writing reports and delivering presentations entirely in Mandarin refined my formal business language skills, boosting my confidence in navigating cross-border collaborations. Overall, this was a very eye-opening experience and I highly recommend it to the future generations.
While the school's rules and regulations were in place, I truly appreciate how both P.Aoh and P.Prinz made the experience so flexible and enjoyable. It was a wonderful time, and I'm especially grateful for the trust they placed in us by allowing us to explore in groups on our own. We also had the freedom to choose our activities on our days off, which made the trip even more exciting and personalized. I want to acknowledge their care and attention, especially when some of us, including myself, fell ill during the trip. They constantly checked in and helped us feel better. Thank you again for making this trip such a memorable experience.
Beyond the internship work, the trip offered us rich cultural experiences that deepened our understanding of Shanghai. Visiting Shanghai Disneyland allowed me to appreciate how global entertainment can seamlessly incorporate local elements, creating a blend of familiarity and excitement. A cruise along the Huangpu River provided a stunning view of Shanghai’s iconic skyline, where the historic Bund and modern skyscrapers coexist, representing the city’s evolution. These moments added depth to the trip, making it not just a professional milestone but also a cultural immersion that I will carry with me.
This internship has allowed me to grow in several ways. It taught me how to adapt to unfamiliar environments and helped me be more independent. Not only is this beneficial in workspaces, but it is also good preparation for college independence, as the timing is perfect to experience this. During the internship, I gained insights that not many people my age would know about, which is a huge advantage in terms of the knowledge and real-life experience I have. I would like to wholeheartedly express my gratitude to Khun Varnee and Mr. Michael Ross for organizing and planning this internship, and allowing us to have this opportunity. I know that not many of us will be able to have this opportunity, so I am beyond grateful to have experienced this internship.
Preaw G12
One of the highlights of my internship was contributing to a video product designed to promote Thailand within the mall. This was a collaborative project that required both creativity and strategic thinking, and I was proud to see how well it was received. Additionally, my team and I presented our findings on future commercial trends and proposed how CP Super Brand Mall could adapt to these developments. On a personal level, I saw significant improvement in my Chinese communication skills, particularly in business and technology-related terminology. This growth has been invaluable to me, as I plan to pursue a career in business and innovation. It also felt rewarding to take on responsibilities and navigate daily tasks such as maintaining organization and living independently.
Bam Bam G12
One of the most significant accomplishments was our successful execution of the advertising campaign, which received positive feedback from the mall’s management. Additionally, I played a key role in the video editing, where I contributed to the development of the visuals. Throughout the internship, I acquired valuable skills in marketing and advertising, specifically in campaign design, audience targeting, and presentation techniques. I also honed my communication skills, working closely with a diverse team to meet deadlines and objectives. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and would like to thank my mentors, Khun Aoh and Khun Prinz, as well as my colleagues, for their guidance and support throughout the program.
Throughout the internship, I developed a variety of important skills, from communication to critical thinking. Engaging with local vendors and using my Chinese language skills, despite initial difficulties, strengthened my ability to communicate across language barriers. Research and creative problem-solving were at the heart of our group projects, pushing us to think outside the box and present ideas that stood out. These skills—whether they’re in marketing, collaboration, or creativity—are ones I know will benefit me in any future career.
Concordian Alumni Reunion 2024:
A Garden Gathering
T
he Concordian Alumni Reunion returned on August 3rd, 2024, transforming the Botanical House on Rama 9 Road for the theme of "Garden Gathering". Despite the pouring rain, the alumni were eager to meet up and reconnect with their old friends and classmates in this cozy escape.
The reunion's theme perfectly complemented the venue's floral surroundings. The greenery, leafage paintings and prints combined with brightly decorated flowers on the dining tables, accented the enchanting atmosphere that was warm, serene and welcoming - just like dining in the garden! This year's event marked a significant milestone as it was the first to be organized entirely by the Alumni-led Committee, known as the Concordian Roon-P’s
With the collaboration of alumni from various generations, the committee successfully executed every detail of the reunion.
The event's parade and confetti shower created a festive atmosphere. With around 150 guests yet with a mood that was relaxed and casual, the reunion provided opportunities for everyone to network and socialize through the speed networking game as an ice breaker for everyone to get to know each other. A lot of fun and energetic vibes through the confession and job hunt boards, musical chairs, Kahoot game, and soft musical performance by our own alumni at the end of the event.
The Concordian Alumni Reunion 2024 was more than just a gathering of old friends. It was a step toward revitalizing the tradition of alumni reunions and creating a memorable experience for all participants. Additionally, it served as a platform for the Concordian Roon-P’s to announce their roadmap for the next reunion, which will coincide with Concordian’s 25th Anniversary.

Interview with Cris and Cruise Kunchayangkul's family
Concordian initially caught our attention for being a trilingual school, which was our top priority when selecting a school for our children. As we got deeper into our research, we were increasingly impressed by it being an IB school and its focus on not only academic excellence but also on personal growth and development.
Having spent several years with this school, we can confidently say that we made the right decision in enrolling our children here. The academic program is very strong and the students demonstrate excellent behavior and manners. The school consistently communicates with families which is crucial for successful child-rearing.
In conclusion, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the school and its dedicated staff. We wish them continued success and all the best in the future.

Interview with JJ and Nana Lien's family
Out of all the trilingual schools in Bangkok, Concordian International School has the perfect balance between being international and embracing traditional values. Concordian provides a global, forward-thinking education for my son (JJ) & daughter (Nana) while at the same time it still fosters a deep appreciation for Thai/Chinese heritage, something we truly value as Thai/Chinese background parents. The IB program at Concordian is a foundation of this educational approach, offering our kids a thorough curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and a global perspective. We believe this is crucial for preparing them to succeed in this interconnected world we are living currently.
Another unique aspect of Concordian is its trilingual education, with a strong focus on Chinese, which is especially important for me, being a Taiwanese. The school’s commitment to multilingualism ensures that my kids not only learn languages but also gain a deeper understanding of different cultures. As parents, we also love how involved we can be in school activities. Concordian encourages parent participation, allowing me and my wife to be an active part of our kids' learning journey. Our kids have thoroughly enjoyed all the performances they participated in, which have helped them develop confidence, creativity, and a love for being on stage. It’s been wonderful to see them grow through these experiences.

Sustainable Innovations at National Science and Technology Fair 2024
Concordian International School proudly took part in this year’s National Science and Technology Fair 2024, with four students presenting their innovative projects at the "THE GLOBE VENGERs" exhibition on Sunday, August 25th, 2024. Held at Impact Muang Thong Thani, Halls 9-12, this event aimed to inspire the young generation on the role of science and technology in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As a participant in the UN Global Compact Network Thailand, Concordian International School joined 27 other members, eight UN agencies, and various partners in sharing transformative projects that highlight sustainable practices. The fair provided a platform for these young talents to engage with the public and share ideas that could contribute to a more sustainable future.
By participating in events like the National Science and Technology Fair, Concordian supports our students in turning innovative ideas into real-world solutions.
