MYP

Service Program Grade 6 Service We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead with G6 Service. During our

upcoming first meeting, students will demonstrate their enthusiasm and prior knowledge of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) gained from last year's PYP Exhibition. They will express their aspirations to contribute to specific SDGs in their future service projects, fostering a strong connection between service learning and action. G6 Service provides students with a unique opportunity to apply the skills they acquire in the classroom to real-world situations, ultimately making a positive impact on their community. This year, students will have the autonomy to select their own projects and form teams, taking full responsibility for meeting project deadlines. This experience will encourage them to collaborate effectively and exercise their creative and critical thinking skills. Furthermore, they will learn valuable time management skills. In addition to working on their individual projects, students will have the chance to share their initiatives with one another and provide feedback and guidance to fellow teams. This collaborative environment will help them develop both giving and receiving advice gracefully. The G6 Service team eagerly anticipates the innovative ideas our students will bring to support the communities around us. Ms. Tashia Mante G6 Service Leader

students prepared and eager to begin their service learning endeavors. Students have already attended the initial service meeting for the year, formed groups, and begun brainstorming ideas to make a meaningful impact in a community with identified needs. Many groups are working to coordinate trips to orphanages for tutoring, to beaches and klongs for trash removal and minor restoration, and to rescue organisations which aid suffering or homeless animals, to name a few plans. Students are optimistic about the work they can do to improve the world around them and contribute to the UN's SDG in a purposeful and lasting way. Ms. Chelsea Polanco G7 Service Leader

students will continue the service program. They are going to have 2 service projects during the whole school year. On September 20th, students had their first service. After a brief introduction, students worked with group members to discuss what the community needs and which kind of service they would like to take. Now students are working on the first proposals. We are currently looking for students’ creative actions to make a difference in the community. Ms. Rong Hu G8 Service Leader

Grade 9 Service Dear Concordian Community,

As we move closer to March 1st, the reflection stage beckons. This period encourages our young learners to introspect, evaluate their experiences, and prepare to share their achievements and newfound wisdom with the Concordian community. It is a time for self-discovery and personal growth, enriching both their minds and souls.

My name is Mr. Brian, and this marks my second year at the helm of the Independent Service Learning Project here at Concordian. Grade 9 is a transformative year where students are encouraged to harness their Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills and apply them to a year-long project with a profound purpose. Student Life and Service

Grade 10 Service

Grade 10 is a very busy year, with students working on their Personal Projects,

studying hard for their regular classes, and looking ahead to the IB Diploma. With all this in mind, and with a focus on increasing the amount of direct service Grade 10 students were undertaking while simultaneously decreasing their time spend planning (so they could focus on other areas mentioned above), G10 Service for this year entails students signing up to one of our twelve service clubs, all which get out into the community several times throughout the year. Below is a brief introduction to these clubs. Mr. Ben, Student Life Coordinator

Habitat For Humanity

Hear to Heart

You Can Save

Habitat For Humanity club is affiliated with the international NGO of the same name, and the main purpose of the club is to help build housing for the underprivileged. The club goes out into the community to actively build structures under the guidance of the organization, and has been on “site builds” to locations such as Pathum Thani and Chachoengsao over the past year.

Hear to Heart’s stated purpose is to create a non-profit business and organization to support the underprivileged people who are suffering from various health problems by creating accomplishable actions. They are involved in fundraising for underprivileged communities, which they then visit and help in various type of direct service initiatives and activities.

The You Can Save club is in partnership with the OSI company, and aims to raise funds to buy medical equipment for underfunded and rural hospitals. The club aims to be a medium of doing charity between Thai companies and hospitals by creating campaigns with Thai companies, and in the past they have collaborated with Happymate, Koh Kae, Euro Cake and more.

Operation Smile

Saturday School

Crisis Relief Fund

The Concordian Operation Smile club is affiliated with an international NGO of the same name, which aspires to reduce the number of young children with cleft palates and burn injuries. The club takes part in fundraising activities and fairs throughout Bangkok, and they also get to take part in medical missions that usually occur in rural Thailand. Last year, the missions re-started after Covid, and club members traveled to Nan province to take part.

A new club initiated by one of our Class of 2024, Saturday School club, is affiliated with a Thai NGO of the same name. The club’s main purpose is to teach at underprivileged schools on Saturdays to help reduce educational inequalities throughout Thailand, with club members volunteering their weekends to help teach school subjects such as Math and English to those lacking opportunities elsewhere.

The Crisis Relief Fund was originally started as a project to help with the disastrous Turkish earthquake of February 2023, but the project has changed into a continuous fund to help prepare for future disasters before they occur. On top of the fundraising component of the club, members also undertake various direct service projects in the local community.
