Let’
s Celebrate!
Birthday parties are often shaped by our culture, families, traditions or beliefs. But how do we celebrate festivals and celebrations in Hispanic countries? Which are the famous dishes that represent this region?
The Spanish ab Initio students and Maestra Lou reenacted a Hispanic birthday party!!
As part of Unit 2 - Experiences, prior to Christmas we invited the Spanish ab Initio “estudiantes”, as well as other guests to participate in this exciting event.
The table tennis room located in the Sports complex was the perfect venue to throw a birthday party with piñata, birthday cake (pastel de cumpleaños) and some “canastitas” (little baskets as little presents for the guests). Finally, we all sang Feliz Cumpleaños and enjoyed a piece of chocolate cake and ice cream. A big thank you (Muchas gracias) to Ms. Mattila and Ms. Prinz for capturing beautiful memories of this exercise. It was a fantastic way to learn more about Hispanic culture and one of the most spoken languages around the world: Español.
A new word was learned: Cake : pastel, torta (in Mexico), dulce, tarta!
