For at the end of last term, Polly and her predecessor, Jacqui Mackay, were locked in Union House overnight to finish the Freshers' Handbook. But during the early hours of June 17, the two "obtained" keys from UH reception by climbing through an allegedly unsecured window. They used them to unlock the door to the Graduate Students Association club, which is leased from the University and

ager, Bill Rhodes, decided the affair would be dealt with internally. The two Union officers were fined a nominal £15 by UEA's Disciplinary Officer. In her letter, Polly told colleagues, "I have decided to resign ... and can only apologise again for all the trouble and problems I have caused." She also admitted to Concrete that her and Jacqui's actions had been "giggling,

ridiculous and over-excited", but that they had no intention other than to relieve boredom during a break from work. Said Bill Rhodes, ironically employed by the companies of which Polly is a director, "I think resigning is the best thing [for her] to do, but I have to say that Polly has been very good and very responsible in the job." GSA President, Tony Burton, said, "We feel that given her actions she is no longer credible as a member of the Union Executive in view of her appalling behaviour and the example she has set. "I have no gripes with Jacqui's actions. She realised next .norning that she'd done the wrong thing and resigned at the end of term." The GSA will be advising its members to vote against Polly should she stand for re-election.
