You can even support Play Conejo while shopping on Amazon by going to smile.amazon.com and selecting Play Conejo as your supported nonprofit organization (Amazon will donate 0.5% of the purchase price)!

Last year, Play Conejo raised over $60,000 through generous donations, grants, and other contributions. More than 130 scholarships were awarded to youth participants and therapeutic recreation participants of all ages. Our Tutoring and Fun Friday Program also served hundreds of students, offering educational support Monday through Thursday and recreational activities every Friday throughout the school year.

With “Giving Tuesday” coming up, I hope you will consider donating to Play Conejo. Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and is a day that focuses on giving back and supporting your favorite charitable organizations. Keep an eye on social media for ways to donate to Play Conejo and support local youth this year.

1962 Voters create CRPD with more than 80% vote on the District's formation.

In the 1970's 20 parks were established. Today, CRPD has 60 parks and facilities.

1992 Conejo Creek North Master Plan for the 44-acre park was completed.

1981 Teen Summer Musical program officially starts at the Borchard Community Center.

1977 Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA) formed as a joint powers authoristy between CRPD & City of Thousand Oaks to manage natural open space.

1963 Estella Park, a small 1.5 acre recreation area off Erbes Rd was the only property owned by CRPD at the time of its formation.

1978 CRPD provides a portion of Conejo Creek North to the City for construction of a public library.

1986

1981 Joel and Frances Dee McCrea donate 75 acres as a wildlife preserve to COSCA.

2013

Solar paneled covered carports are installed at Conejo Creek South, Borchard, Dos Vientos, and Thousand Oaks Centers.

2001 Skate park opens at Borchard Community Center.

1994 CRPD is recognized as one of the nation's finest recreation and park agen cies by the Nat'l Recreation & Park Association.

2018

Sapwi Trails is dedicated -- A 124 acre community park with trails, recreational ammenities, and no grass .

2003 County of Ventura transfers 428-acre Oakbrook Regional Park to CRPD along with Native American Interpretive center.

1998 CRPD celebrates paying off bonds issued in 1970 by burning bonds at the Labor Day Concert at the Park.

The first Silver Starlight Ball, a formal dinner dance for people with disabilities, is held.

2020

Play Conejo - CRPD's nonprofit celebrates their 10-year anniversary and hits $1M raised to support parks & programs in our commmunity!

2021 CRPD breaks ground on a new 14-acre property for the future Paige Lane Neighborhood Park.

2018 CRPD parks and facilities become evacuation sites for Woolsey & Hill fires.

The year-round Community Pool at Cal Lutheran is constructed.

CRPD's Recreaction Van hits the streets bringing fun, free, mobile recreation to our local parks!

He is in the National Honor Society and also volunteers as a member of Boys Team Charity. MARY SEPE

Mary Sepe began volunteering at the Senior Nutrition Lunch Program (SNP) located at the Goebel Adult Community Center (GACC) in 2019. Mary is one driven, enthusiastic woman, and it is a privilege to have her as a volunteer. The SNP is a grant funded lunch program through Ventura County Area Agency on Aging (VCAAA) and is administered by CSVP. We have one chef and thirty volunteers who help run this program held Monday through Friday, 11:30am12:30pm. This program provides a nutritious meal for our seniors and a safe place for socialization. Mary volunteers in the SNP kitchen every Tuesday and Friday. She helps prep and serve meals to our seniors, and I am pretty sure she has perfect atten dance! She enjoys meeting new people, working with senior patrons and senior volunteers, and she is fantastic at making connections. She is a joy to be around, but more than that, she is a get-it-done volunteer, and we know we can always count on her. Mary contributes her time, energy, and resources to bettering our community. Thank you Mary!

PAUL CRANMER

Meet Paul Cranmer, super-volunteer! Paul is our volun teer photographer for all of the Cultural Unit’s Young Artist Ensemble productions. During each show—seven shows a year!—he spends multiple rehearsals with his camera in hand, documenting the magic of live theatre and our incredible young actors. Paul’s photos are stun ning treasures in themselves, but that’s not all he does! Paul attends auditions and callbacks to assist directors in any way he can, and to help young auditioners feel comfortable by answering questions or offering quiet advice to those who look a little nervous. Paul knows everyone’s name, and is careful to be sure to get a great close-up shot of every cast member at some point in the production. Paul also takes headshots of the cast and creates wonderfully creative lobby displays of them uniquely inspired by each play’s story and aesthetic. Paul takes thousands of photos of every show and then painstakingly edits them down to the best 300 or so to share with the full cast and crew – along with permis sion to print and share them! Paul is often there for us at a moment’s notice for special events and last-minute marketing ideas. Paul is the very definition of a supervolunteer! We are so very lucky and grateful he has cho sen us as a focus of his generosity!

Participants for classes that do not meet minimum enrollment (75% full) will be contacted with options to convert class into a semi-private instruction, private instruction, or move to another time slot.

For children less than age five who are just learning to swim, a minimum of two sessions of repeated lessons is recommended. Please alert the instructor before the first class if there are any special needs or other situations that may help us enhance your child’s learning experience.

Classes are taught by American Red Cross certified and trained instructors.

Due to high demand and adjustment to class there are no make- ups allowed unless noted or cancelled by CRPD.

The completion of a class below does not guarantee advancement to the next level. Classes below are either offered as a Semi-Private Instruction (2 participants to one instructor) or Group Instruction (4 or more participants).

PARENT AND CHILD – Age 6 mos.-3 yrs. Introduces participants and their guardians to an aquatic environment. Learn skills to help parents practice with their child through songs, toys, and games. Practice movements on front and back, changing positions, and submerging in an up-and-down pattern. Group instruction only.

TINY TOT SEALS, Age 2.5-3.5 yrs. Recommend at least one session of Parent/Child. Work on movement along the wall, blowing bubbles, breath-holding, kicking, floating, arm strokes, and under water exploration. Participants should be comfortable in shallow water and can follow verbal cues.

POLLIWOGS, Age 3.5-5 yrs. Builds on skills from Tiny Tots, moving into deeper water. Improve arm/leg movements, gliding, and floating. Introduces swimming without assistance. Emphasis on underwater exploration. For younger participants with limited experience. Participants must be able to hang on the wall without letting go, be able to follow verbal directions and submerge fully underwater and with bubbles.

SEALS, Age 4-7 yrs. Build on Polliwog skills; continuing work on simultaneous leg/arm movements, improving floating, and gliding on front/back. For older participants with limited experience. Participants must be able to hang on the wall without letting go and be comfortable on the wall without assistance. Semi-private instruction or group instruction.

DOLPHINS, Age 4-8 yrs. Participants should be able to make forward progress without assistance. Focuses on freestyle arm/leg movements with rhythmic breathing (lifting their head to breathe). Introduces elementary backstroke and survival swimming. Semi-private instruction or group instruction.

OTTERS, Age 5-10 yrs. Emphasizes strength, endurance, and coordination of freestyle. Introduces backstroke, breaststroke, and treading water. Participants should be comfortable swimming at the water’s surface with rhythmic breathing. Semi-private instruction or group instruction.

STINGRAYS, Age 5-12 yrs. Should be comfortable swimming 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke. Introduces the butterfly kick and surface dives with extended instruction in the coordination of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and treading water. Semi-private instruction or group instruction.

BARRACUDAS/SHARKS, Age 6-12 yrs. Focuses on endurance, stroke development, starts, and finishes. Introduces the full butterfly stroke, flip turns, and circle swimming. Participants will be prepared to join the swim team. Semi-private instruction or group instruction.

SHARKS, Age 6-12 yrs. Should be able to comfortably swim 50 yards each of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Emphasizes endurance, starts, turns, and lane etiquette. Introduction to clock management, swim intervals. Semi-private instruction or group instruction.

PRIVATE INSTRUCTION, 2.5-99 yrs. One participant to one instructor, designed around the individual’s swimming ability, needs, and level. All private instructions can be converted into a semi-private instruction if both participants are around the same swim ability.

AMERICAN DISABILITY ACT ( ADA ) COMPLIANCE: MISSION STATEMENT

Conejo Recreation and Park District (CRPD) strives to enrich quality of life through the provision of quality recreation programs. We welcome people with disabilities in all recreation opportunities provided by CRPD, both through specialized options (Therapeutic Recreation) and inclusion alternatives.

Please contact Devon Herbert at 805-495-6471 or Inclusion@crpd.org for further information on program choices, for help with making a selection, or to request a program modification. In order to evaluate and seek to reasonably accommodate your individual needs, we ask that you let us know of any requested modifications at the time of your registration.

ADA GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE

CRPD has developed an internal grievance procedure for prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging any action prohibited by the United States Department of Justice regulations implementing Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Complaints should be addressed in writing to ADA Compliance Officer, Conejo Recreation and Park District, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360 or by email at ADAcompliance@crpd.org

• A complaint should contain the name and address of the person filing it, and briefly describe the alleged violation of the regulations.

• Complaint should be filed within 30 days of the alleged violation.

• CRPD will conduct an investigation and notify the complainant of its findings within 30 days from receiving the written complaint.

Use of this grievance procedure is not a prerequisite to the pursuit of other remedies. CRPD

ACTIVITY REFUND POLICY

Transfers and Refunds cannot be done online. Refunds are returned to the customer in the same manner that the original registration was paid. For example, if you paid via credit card then the refund will be credited directly to your card; if you paid cash, your refund will be returned by mail within 2-4 weeks of request. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GRANTED AFTER TWO WEEKS OF THE PROGRAM START DATE.  This policy applies to all District-sponsored activities and special instruction classes.

A. CANCELLATIONS BY THE PARTICIPANT:

1. A full refund will be granted if the District is notified at least two business days (Monday-Friday) prior to the start of the program activity.  If you cancel within two business days of the class starting, you will be charged for the first class.

2. A refund will be granted on a pro-rata basis if the District is notified prior to the date of the second meeting of the activity.

REFUNDS WILL NOT BE GRANTED AFTER THE SECOND MEETING.

4. Refunds for medical reasons will be granted on a pro-rata basis subject to written certification of such reasons by a physician.

5. Sports Leagues and Tournament Teams – Refund (less cancellation fee) will be granted prior to the final confirmation of team schedule.  No refund after the final schedule is posted.

6. Aquatics or Teen Center Excursions – A $5 cancellation fee per person, per activity will be assessed for each class/program or excursion. The Aquatics Refund Policy (www.crpd.org/aquaticsrefunds) has additional refund considerations.

7. Day Camps – Refunds (less non-refundable registration fee) will be granted if two weeks’ notice is given prior to each weekly session.  If less than two weeks, no refund is granted.

8. Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten: A refund (less non-refundable registration fee) will be granted if District is notified at least two business days (Monday-Friday) prior to the start of program date. A refund will be granted on a prorated basis (less non-refundable registration fee) if the District is notified within two weeks after the program has started. No refunds will be granted after two weeks of the program start date.

B. CANCELLATIONS BY THE DISTRICT:

1. A full refund will be made in the event an activity is cancelled by the District prior to the starting date.

2. A partial refund will be made on a pro-rata basis if the activity is cancelled prior to the conclusion of the program.

In consideration for being permitted by the Conejo Recreation & Park District (“CRPD”), City of Thousand Oaks (“CTO”), Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (“COSCA”), Conejo Valley Unified School District (“CVUSD”), and City of Westlake Village (“WLV”) to participate in the above activities, I hereby waive, release, and discharge any and all claims for damages for personal injury, death, or property damage which I may have, or which may hereafter accrue to me, as a result of participation in said activities. This release is intended to discharge in advance the CRPD, CTO, COSCA, CVUSD, and WLV (collectively “entities”) (including their officers, employees, volunteers, and agents) from any and all liability arising out of or connected in any way with my participation in said activities, even though that liability may arise out of active or passive negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons or entities mentioned above. It is further agreed that this waiver, release, and assumption of risk is to be binding on my heirs, administrators, executors, and assigns, and that I shall indemnify and to hold the above persons or entities (including its officers, employees, volunteers, and agents) free and harmless from any loss, liability, damage, cost, or expense which may arise out of or is connected in any way with my participation in said activities. Additionally, I fully understand that my participation in the above-referenced activities exposes me to the risk of personal injury, death, communicable diseases, illnesses, viruses, and/or property damage. I hereby acknowledge that I am voluntarily participating in this activity and agree to assume any such risks.

VIRTUAL CLASS RELEASE: I hereby warrant and agree, that the conditions of my environment are safe, free from obstructions, and are suitable for participation in the above-referenced activity. I further understand and agree that any material downloaded, viewed or otherwise obtained through my participation in said activity is done at my own risk and the District is not responsible for any loss, alteration, corruption or other damage to my personal property, including computers, networks and other property used as part of my participation.

PHOTOGRAPHIC RELEASE: I understand that photographs may be taken during these activities and hereby grant the District permission to use any such photo(s) for advertising or in promotional materials.

PARENTAL/GUARDIAN CONSENT (to be completed/signed by parent/guardian if participant is under 18 years of age): I hereby consent that those listed above participate in the above activities, and I hereby execute the above Agreement, Waiver, and Release on his/ her/their behalf. I state that said minors are physically able to participate in said activities. I hereby agree to indemnify and hold the persons and entities mentioned above (including their officers, employees, volunteers, and agents) free and harmless from any loss, liability, damage, cost, or expense which may arise out of or is connected in any way with said minor/s’ participation in said activity.

SPOTLIGHT

If you’ve hiked through scenic Sapwi Trails Community Park, chances are you’ve seen the incredible Sapwi Bike Park. During the development of Sapwi Trails, CRPD partnered with the dedicated volunteers at Concerned Off-Road Bicyclists Association (CORBA) to design, construct, and operate the Sapwi Bike Park.

The concept and planning for the bike park go all the way back to 2013. The project was a true labor of love, spearheaded by CORBA’s President, Steve Messer, and Director, Peter Sullivan, and supported by generous sponsors, donors, and other community volunteers.

The bike park is a free, public recreation bicycle skills facility and is currently the only one in the Conejo Valley. It offers a wide range of features to challenge all ages and skill levels. The park consists of a pump track, a flow line, and four jump lines (beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert), and they’re working on additional skill features.

CRPD extends its gratitude and appreciation to Steve, Peter, and the other volunteers and supporters of the Sapwi Bike Park for their continued hard work and dedication to providing a world-class bike facility for the residents of the Conejo Valley.
