ID HSBC DUMPS HLS
HSBCID
Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty have received a letter from the head of Group Corporate Relations at HSBC which reveals that HSBC are going to sever all links with HLS. The letter explains: "We have acted solely as a nominee company for a number of clients. However, following a recent review of our position, and taking into account a number of circumstances, we have decided that we will no longer act in this capacity." The letter goes on: "We trust you will wish to inform your supporters, who have been in contact with the directors and our nominee company." Many nominee companies who hold shares in HLS had previously claimed that they had no power to get rid of the shares. This new move by HSBC proves that this is not the case. This is a severe blow to HLS . ot only because they are losing another large shareholder (HSBC currently hold 2,650,933 shares), but also because it could open the floodgates for other nominee companies to follow suit.
NO REST FOR THE WICKED On Christmas morning we arrived at the gates of HLS at around 7:30am and used our car to block the gates whilst the fed up workers had to sit and listen to us telling them what sort of trash they really are. They looked really miserable and just had to sit there for around half an hour until the police arrived and moved us from the gates. Meanwhile security were using a PA system to play really loud cheesey Christmas music to keep the workers ' spirits up and annoy us. It didn' t work and they soon got fed up of it and turned it off when protestors started dancing and singing along to it ! In total around ten people arrived throughout the day and with shouting, 3 megaphones, music, sirens, and drums going, the workers must have had an unpleasant morning. We were able to rub it in about the New York Stock Exchange booting HLS off. We were glad to do this because as usual the workers are the last people to be informed of these things. Lovely news on Christmas day, eh? Some people went wandering around the perimeter fence making a noise so that there was no escape for the workers in the buildings at the back of the site. The workers came out at
around 12:00 and were given a rather loud piece of our minds. They are the real scum, the people who came in to top up the poison being pumped around the bloodstreams of those tiny puppies, rats and other animals and we made sure that they knew it! We left leaving purple ribbons, balloons and funeral cards. Some of the activists went on to do other things, keeping the plod busy. HLS are screwed and it is up to us all to get to the gates of Oecoid, Huntingdon and any other place connected to HLS and really pile on the pressure. You can be sure that our day is definitely coming.
have always got to remember that what you see in the Newsletter is just a snapshot of what's happening accross the country. Let me give you an example last month there was a bomb scare at Novartis's Frimley site because of their links with HLS that cleared the building for several hours. The only reason we heard about this was that a journalist rang us and told us because he had a friend who works in the building. This must impact on the company and we know for a fact that things like this often go unreported. Makes you think doesn't it? THE NEXT DEMO ON FEB 11th WILL BE MOBILE AND EFFECTIVE SO
PLEASE PREPARE YOURSELF BY MAKING SURE WE HAVE YOUR MOBILE NUMBER WELL BEFORE THE DEMO AND THAT YOUR MOBILE IS SWITCHED ON DURING THE DAY. ALSO BRING WITH YOU A GOOD QUALITY ROAD ATLAS AND A FULL TANK OF PETROL/DIESEL. LAST OF ALL, PLEASE BE ON TIME AND DON'T COMPLAIN IF YOU ARE LATE AND WE'VE ALL GONE! See you there and if you need any more evidence that we are all over HLS, then look at the stop press. Yet another one leaving a sinking ship. OUR TIME IS NOW SO LET'S GO!

THE CHAOS IS SPREADING n Friday the 22nd of December, 35 people arrived at HLS' Occold site to remind them that this was to be their last Christmas. The workers left early to one hell of a noise ensuring that they were reminded how much they are hated and what low-lifes they are. Some of them had little signs in their car windows wishing us a happy Christmas. A newcomer to the demos thought this was a sign that we aren't getting to the workers. That was until it was explained we had seen these signs of false bravado at Consort and Hillgrove farm and my god how we laughed when the Hillgrove workers left on their last day clutching their P45 's trying to look calm and calculated until one snapped and we could see exactly what the months of daily

HLS KICKED OFF N.Y. STOCK EXCHANGE Shown right is a press release from the New York stock exchange. HLS being removed from the NYSE is devastating news for them and in the very place they are looking for investors, what a slap in the face! In simple terms HLS trying to tout their crappy shares on the OTC bulletin board is the difference between shopping at Harrods then having to get used to shopping at K wiksave. The knock on effect in investor confidence will be long lasting and huge. Just look at the graph. Probably the most telling line is near the end where it states " .... the company's business plan was not accepted[by the NYSE]." This is real evidence that HLS is dying when the largest stock exchange in the world rubbishes them then chucks them off.
demos, countless phone calls, unwanted gifts, home visits and having her home attacked had done to her. The scum at Occold are no different so we laughed at them and told them to make the most of it, making a mental note to step it up in 2001 to force these perverted monsters onto the dole. When those workers leave on their last day we' ll all be there to laugh at them. Some protestors went on for a drink in the workers ' local pub and others went and paid a visit to the local vet on Church street, Eye who signs the monkey export certificates for HLS. Two people entered the building and found the vet hurriedly putting his coat on and trying to leave. Perhaps the minibus full of police who were following us from the demo phoned him and tipped him off! The look of shock
on the face of his receptionist as we entered followed by a load of coppers was priceless. She looked like someone had slapped her across the face! They both left as the police turfed us out and the surgery was locked up for the day. Later on in the evening people paid a visit to Peter Denholm, head animal technician at HLS' Oecoid lab to remind him to have a filthy Christmas and to advise him to leave HLS. We think he got the message' Later on that evening, two people who had just heard the news about HLS being thrown off the New York Stock Exchange went to the labs at Huntingdon to rub it in the faces of the workers who were still there. How privileged we were to be the bearer of such wonderful news only a couple of days before Christmas!
PRESS RELEASE FOR I MMEDIATE RELEASE NEW YORK, December 21, 2000 The New York Stock Exchange ( "NYSE" ) announced today that it determined that the American Depositary Receipts (ADR) of Huntingdon Life Sciences Group PLC (the "Company") -ticker symbol HTD - should be removed from the list . The Company has advised the NYSE that it anticipates that its ADRs will commence quotation on the OTC Bulletin Board on December 27, 2000. As such, the Company has formally waived its right to a review o f this determination by a Committee of the Board of Directors of the Exchange. Trading on the NYSE will be suspended prior to the opening on Wednesday, December 27, 2000. Following suspension, application will be made to the Securities and Exchange Commission to delist the issue from the NYSE. The Exchange's action is being taken in view o f the fact that the Company is below the NYSE's continued listing criteria relating to total market capitalization and stockholders' equity less than $50 million each and the Company's submitted business plan was not accepted. The NYSE noted that it may, at any time, suspend a security if it believes that continued dealings in the security on the NYSE are not adv isable.
The graph below shows how HLS's American share price has been in steady decline resulting in their suspension from the NYSE.

News In Brief
HLS UNDER SIEGE
Senior HLS Executive Attacked
The timing was perfect. As the staff from HLS were leaving work on Thursday evening 21st Dec, over thirty animal rights activists besieged the site. Amazing isn't it how all these people turned up unannounced at the same place at the same time? They immediately surrounded a car that was half way out of the gateway. The three police officers who were on the scene could do nothing but stand by and watch as the car was forced back into HLS and security guards struggled to close the gate. As the workers queued back further and further, activists continued to chant "Close down HLS" and taunt the workers, who were by now getting very irate at being forced to stay in their work place just a few days before Christmas. It took over 45 minutes before enough police reinforcements arrived to enable the workers to leave in relative safety. However, a separate group of activists were waiting further down the road and ambushed some of the workers. Several of the workers had their car windows smashed. Ah well, these things happen don't they?
The Research Defence Society in the UK reports that on Tuesday evening, a senior member of the staff at Huntingdon Life Sciences/UK was assaulted as he arrived home from work. An individual or individuals sprayed a substance directly into his eyes that temporarily blinded him. He was then struck before he could get inside his home. Several windows of his home were broken before the assailant(s) fled. Since this was first reported we have learned from journalists that the attack was in Hertfordshire and that he is one of the most senior people at HLS. We have also learnt that as he escaped inside his attackers tried to batter his door down to get to him. A journalist commented that it shows the level of determination to close HLS and we would add that it also shows the level of anger towards Huntingdon. "When people get angry in large numbers they create change."

$100,000 SLAP IN THE FACE Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty in America have just won an important victory against Stephens Inc. of Little Rock, Arkansas, USA who are one of HLS 's largest shareholders, holding many millions of shares. SHAC had a website about Stephens using their logo and headed "Stephens invest in animal cruelty." Stephens took exception to the spotlight falling on them and took SHAC USA to court to get the website taken down. This included

one American activist. The judge ruled I~ that it was a case of freedom of speech and ruled against Stephens. This particular slap in the face for the enemy cost SHAC $0 and Stephens $100,000. SHAC USA will be stepping up several gears in 2001 against Stephens and The Bank of New York and demos will be happening against customers in Europe and Japan as SHAC really goes Global to destroy HLS.

Qmmediate lmevastation ne hundred and fifty A.R. activists attended this demo, which got off to a flying start with the activists immediately wrongfooting the police contingent numbering 500 from four different forces. How were they wrongfooted? Easy! We immediately moved to Hertfordshire which has got the largest concentration of HLS's customers in the U.K. And the day, as if by magic, became CUSTOMERS IN DECEMBER C.I.D. Cambridgeshire police soon came to understand the first rule of being effective is that there are no rules. The first demo took place at the home of the Du Pont (HLS customer) Director William Anthony Barry, 37 Greenway, Letchworth, SG6 3UG tel 01462 679870 where a noisy and effective demo took place. The activists then visited the offices of Merck Lipha (HLS customer) where, according to information received, numerous windows were smashed and messages spray painted on the buildings letting them know how damaging dealing with HLS can be. The protest then swiftly moved to Du Pont where the activists had a good look around the site. Some activists got on the roof and draped a banner down the wall. It was curious that the police were nowhere to be seen on the first three demos. They were still heading out of Cambridge on the Mll. So much for police intelligence, doh!
O
6
On leaving Du Pont one solitary bumpkin copper turned up and tried to stop people leaving by blocking the road. The activists were having none of it. They were on a mission and nothing was going to deter them. Onto the next customer, Roche, who were one of the customers named in the Oecoid expose. They have a large site in Welwyn Garden City. Some activists seized the moment and got into offices in two different buildings. Security looked baffled and very out of breath. The activists were unchallenged until the police finally arrived in Hertfordshire in hot pursuit. Four hours late, well done boys and girls for keeping up. It should be noted that in their attempt to keep up with the activists the Divs of Dock Green almost ran over someone on a pedestrian crossing and then smashed into another car on a roundabout and drove off because they were in pursuit of Britain's most wanted animal lovers. The activists then heard that Roche employees were having a Christmas party, dinner suits and invitation only. The activists, not wanting to miss out on the Christmas spirit, decided to drop in and tell them that as far as they were concerned the party has only just started.
Twenty activists with megaphones and leaflets stormed in to disrupt their dinner. The look of horror and disbelief on the party-goers' faces was a picture. I'm sure it's a Christmas party they won't forget in a hurry. Leaflets were distributed and the was made that any connection with HLS means trouble. Cries of "you ' ve ruined our party" were echoing around the hall. That's what we like to hear. All 20 activists, just getting into the party spirit, had to be forcibly removed from the building (not much Christmas spirit there) . While Hertfordshire was a whirlwind of action against HLS's customers other activists turned up at HLS's lab in Huntingdon. They were greeted by several riot vans of police who were wondering where everyone was. Other actions were taking place against the hunts in the area. All in all a very successful and productive day that gave HLS customers a taste of what is to come if they do not stop funding animal torture at Huntingdon Life Sciences.

F/NANC/AL EXPERTS RUBBISH HLS The UK's largest selling investors ' magazine has given HLS a Golden Boot award for showing the rest of the UK HOW NOT TO DO IT! Anyone would think they see HLS as a joke. Below are edited highlights: 'Projecting a positive image is always a challenge when your business is testing new chemical entities on animals. But Huntingdon has shown the rest of the UK plc how not to do it. For a start, it doesn't use a public relations company- which is a little like the Monaco Grand Prix doing without track stewards. There's no way any professional PR gurus would get involved now. The present management team parachuted into Huntingdon after the animal abuse scandal three years ago. They ' ve tried to project a more positive image and invited journalists to come and tour the labs to find out for themselves. But against the new found power of internet activism it has proved next to useless .... ..the antivivisectionists have succeeded in painting the company as a multinational empire devoted to wanton animal cruelty. The failure to counter the image has The UK•s b . egged on campaigners to ever more rggest Selling m agazine for inv direct action, including gatecrashing estors drinks receptions at the company's brokers and writing to individual shareholders 'suggesting' they sell their shares ...and just this week HSBC agreed to drop its 1 per cent stake in the company. '
News In Brief Home Attacked In an anonymous communique received by SHAC, activists have claimed responsibility for an attack at the home of a director of HLS's customer, British Biotech. The Oxford home of Giles Campion was visited in the early hours of the morning. Two cars in the driveway were spray painted and the front of the house was extensively damaged.
Animal Rights Measures Delayed The government has decided against bringing forward new measures in the Queen's Speech to crack down on militant animal rights activists . Separately, the Department of Trade and Industry said there could not be early legislation to implement proposals to keep secret the home addresses of directors and shareholders of companies targeted by the activists. Huntingdon Life Sciences expressed disappointment at the decision.
More Drug Failures Yet another influential investment magazine has cast doubt on Huntingdon's future. Below is an article from Shares magazine: 'Huntingdon Life Sciences, the controversial medical research company targeted by animal rights activists, continues to face an uncertain future. In 1997, a channel four documentary alleged animal welfare violations at Huntingdon's laboratories. Since then, activists have waged a relentless campaign against both the company and its backers, which has contributed to a share price plunge from 113p to just 3.8p over the past four years. This year alone, sustained harassment has forced the withdrawal of the company's broker, WestLB Panmure, and its largest shareholder, fund manager Phillips & Drew. Of more pressing concern is the decision of NatWest not to renew bank loans totalling £22.6 million. This has forced Huntingdon to look overseas for refinancing of its debt. NatWest has extended the bank facility to 5 January 2001 to give the company time to complete this process. Even aside from the refinancing concerns, Huntingdon's cash position looks increasingly tight. The company made an operating loss of £718,000 in the nine months to 30th September but a hefty interest bill blew out the pre tax loss figure to £5.8 million. At 30 September, the company had just £927,000 left in the bank. With little prospect of raising fresh equity, Huntingdon faces some daunting challenges in securing its long term future - a fact borne out by its low share price.'
HLS customers SmithKline Beecham have been hit by a storm of controversy following the release of a statement from the US government's Food and Drug Administration. The FDA investigated Phenylpropanolamine (PPA) , an ingredient in Day Nurse and Contac 400, and concluded "PPA is not safe." PPA is linked with strokes in young people - the FDA estimate up to 500 people under 50 suffer strokes caused by PPA every year. Those caring people at Smithkline Beecham have voluntarily withdrawn PPA products in America. But here in the UK you can still get Day Nurse and risk your future with a single dose. Smithkline Beecham has been dealt an embarrassing blow by the US authorities which have blocked its new antibiotic treatment Factive from sale in America. The move is a significant setback for SmithKline. Analysts believe the company expected to generate sales from the drug of £350m by 2005 and it could be another year before the drug is ready to come to market, if it is ever approved.

CUSTOMERS -----------The letter below shows that there are some pretty powerful companies who wouldn' t touch HLS with a barge pole. The letter on the right was received by the campaign and highlights that the campaign against customers of HLS is starting to bite, and it's only just started! The letter from East Anglian Pharmaceuticals announces that they are closing the account with immediate effect, and this was after just ONE LETTER! So imagine what an effect demos, ringing directors and home visits are having. Got a director near you? Well go and ask him "do you feel lucky? Well do ya punk !!!"They're all out there just waiting for your personal touch.

Surrey activists visit Novartis 20 Surrey activists arrived at Novartis' headquarters in Frimley, Surrey to show Novartis that their links with HLS are going to be cause for action against them and the source of a whole load of trouble they could most certainly do without! Imutran are a subsidiary of Novartis and funded a horrific xenotransplantation programme of pig organs into wild-caught baboons and other primates that was exposed in the Daily Express in September this year. Surrey activists have held quite a few demos at Novartis over the past few weeks. Here is a report of one such demo:
"We gave Novartis hell amidst heavy downpours of rain, with megaphones, sirens, homs, whistles and a lot of shouting. Apparently most of the workforce had been sent home in advance of our demonstration. Can' t think why perhaps because it was raining, perhaps because it was a Friday! Mmmm, very good for business! All the other offices on the building park were leafleted as well as passing traffic. Novartis are - conveniently for ussituated right on a very busy roundabout. There was a lot of support and interest from members of the public and local people - many had already heard of the notorious HLS. The police were low key throughout the day, with 15 extras tuming up just before 6pm to escort the
remaining workers out of the site. No doubt Novartis await our next vi sit with enthusiasm! Thanks to everyone who came on the demo - regular demonstrations and a whole range of exciting activities will be taking place to show Novartis that Surrey SHAC mean business- see you on the next one!"
British Biotech Besieged
On 19th December at 4pm, ten activists held a noisy . t ·d HLS d emons t ra t Ion ou SI e customer British Biotech, Watlington Road, Oxford.
Workers queued up and waited for the police to arrive. When the police arrived the workers were gradually let out. Some staff unwound their windows to hear what the demonstration was about. Every worker went home knowing that the company they are working for pays for animal torture at HLS. The security and other staff had obviously 8
been told to ignore us as no one would take a leaflet or listen to what we had to say, now where have I seen that ignorance b ef ore ?. M ay b e th ey are as h ame d of what British Biotech do. Five police wandered around and one even gave us directions to a director 's address. His directions led protestors to Mr Giles Victor Campion, 112 Banbury Road, Oxford, OX2 6JU minus the police of course. A SHAC supporter spoke to his wife and informed her that their neighbours had been leafleted regarding her husband's involvement with Huntingdon Life Sciences and that we would be back time
and time again until they see sense. She seemed most irate and ran inside to call the police. But Thames Valley police · bemg · wh at 1t · ts, · b y the response time time they arrived activists had long gone! We later learned that Campion got into his house by climbing over a neighbour 's fence at the back and once inside he hid. There has been four demos outside British Biotech to date and these will be stepped up even more until they pull away from HLS.

Arrowmight Running Shv Fifteen individuals gained entry to Arrowmight Biosciences, which supplies and makes cages and restraint equipment for HLS. There was no security so they were able to gain immediate access into the factory. They were greeted by angry, aggressive workers, but they could quite clearly see cages in the process of construction, and also fini shed cages some with restraint devices in them. Some of the cages also had pipes leading into them obviously for inhalation studies. The cages varied in size from very small ones for rodents to very big ones for dogs and primates . They managed to take paper work most of which contained measurements of the cages, even though they were being attacked. Video footage was • • • • • • • • • • • • • taken of the premises and the many assaults. The workers tried to take the video camera by attacking the person holding it, but they managed to save it. They were there for about 30 minutes and left at the sound of police sirens. Activists have been back several times to Arrowmight who have since spent quite a lot of money on new security including keypads for all the doors. They now hide inside the building behind locked doors and closed blinds. They can hide but we can still see them! Arrowmight are under regular surveillance from us and will be repeatedly attacked until they drop HLS .

DEFINITELY SUPPLYING HLS AND PROUD OF IT! An enterprising SHAC activist thought she would carry out some further investigations into a company that appeared in newsletter 8, B & V Water Treatment Ltd, unit 7, Dalmer Close, Royal Oak Industrial Estate, Daventry, Northants. NNll 5QL Tel: 01327 871 967, fax 01327 704 332 and e-mail BVwater@btinternet.com. We had heard from an anonymous source that this company was supplying HLS with chemicals for their water supply, and this was confirmed by Mr. Vincent and Stan Rooney of B & V Water Treatment Ltd. Mr Vincent said: "We've been supplying Huntingdon Life Sciences for 25 years, and we're not going to stop now". They complained about receiving letters and phone calls regarding their involvement with HLS - shame! Please contact Mr. Vincent and Mr. Rooney and ask them how they can justify doing business with a company that kills 500 innocent animals every day for financial gain and forward any replies to the campaign.
If you thought actions against HLS shareholders had been forgotten then think again. These two pictures are of North West activists invading Rulegale Nominees who hold shares in HLS. We would like to have included more of the actions that have taken place against shareholders but just did not have space in this newsletter.
