Report of Giving 2020-2021 3

TO THE COMMUNITY We didn’t just make it through a difficult year with the pandemic, we thrived! Our community came together in ways we never could have imagined to overcome tremendous obstacles and ensure that our students continued learning and growing. The generosity of parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends had an immediate and resounding impact ensuring that the school continued to move forward with excellence. Our talented and dedicated faculty is one of our greatest resources, and this past year, they went above and beyond to ensure we achieved academic excellence and provided important social and emotional support to all of our students during the most challenging of times. We could not have achieved what we did last year without the support of our community. By making Congressional School a philanthropic priority, you provided a critical foundation of support for our teachers and students. Together we funded projects that will have a significant impact on the lives of our students. We raised funds to launch the new Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation, including a generous challenge gift from Bob and Caroline Schellhas; we completed funding for the pool renovation thanks in large part to a major gift from Edy and Sean Rameika; and we received a gift for The Vance Family Garden for outdoor STEM education from

Cheryl and Bruce Vance. These are just a few examples of what we achieved together over the past year. Browse through this booklet and see many other areas in which the generosity of our community has made an impact. Thank you to everyone who supported Congressional School during the 2020-2021 fiscal year with gifts of all sizes to The Congressional Fund, Gala, and in many other ways. Our partnership shapes the future of our school, and together anything is possible! Very Sincerely,

Edwin P. Gordon, Ph.D. Head of School

A YEAR LIKE NO OTHER Planning for the 2020-2021 school year began in the spring of 2020 with discussions around the safe reopening of campus during the COVID-19 pandemic. With our Early Childhood and camp programs paving the way, the school leadership team, under the guidance of our health advisory committee, announced that the school would open with both in-person and bimodal (synchronous remote learning) options. Despite the challenges faced and overcome, the school was able to remain open the entire year—no small feat during a world-wide pandemic. We are grateful to our entire community for trusting in the school, supporting each other, learning from one another, and growing together through this time.

"The Congressional team was so impressive in what they did— they kept their heads, made a plan, included parents in the thinking, and carried on, whether switching quickly online or opening in the fall! When the school reopened in the fall, we felt a huge sense of relief, because our kids would experience some sense of normality and connection to the community despite the pandemic." - Arati Belle and Vinai Tichur P'22'24

THANK YOU! THE LARGEST GIFT IN OUR SCHOOL'S HISTORY Congressional School’s pool was built in 1964, and it's time for a renovation. We are incredibly thankful for the generosity of Edy '86 and Sean Rameika GP'25 '27 who gifted the final third of our new pool's funding—the largest gift in the school's history. The 2020 Gala was earmarked to raise funds for the pool, but because of COVID-19, the funds were redirected and the project was postponed. We are grateful for the Rameikas stepping in to ensure the pool renovation could continue. We can't wait for the new pool and splash pad to be unveiled in Spring 2022.

VIRTUAL GALA AND AUCTION Our annual Gala and Auction is one of our most popular community events of the year—even when it's virtual. The 2021 Gala was themed "Above and Beyond" in honor of our superhero teachers and staff at Congressional School who went above and beyond during such a unique and challenging year. It was our second gala hosted online, and our Gala Committee took the virtual event to the next level with games, videos, and even a DJ. All proceeds from the event went to support the launching of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation.
