DEAR CONGRESSIONAL FAMILIES, The world of education is dynamic – it does not stand still. As educators we are continuously assessing how we do things, benchmarking our practices, and staying informed on current research, techniques, and tools to best serve our young learners. Students are our highest priority, and when we consider program and facility enhancements, we put our ideas to the test by asking “what’s best for children today?” This mindset keeps us razor focused on what is most important – students! As we look back on the 2016-2017 school year, there are many accomplishments to reflect upon and celebrate: • We launched our new brand, which included new school logos, a new website, new admission viewbook, and other branded materials. Our new brand has been very well received by our community and has generated increased awareness of our school’s value. • We optimized student academic time by introducing a 6-day rotating schedule. This increased overall instruction time for core academic classes in middle school by 20 hours over the course of the school year and increased each instructional period from 42 to 55 minutes. • We re-energized our Service Learning program across the grades and utilized our wonderful campus to engage students in meaningful activities, relating to core curricular areas that provide benefit to the school or local community. Students learned about composting and recycling, they created raised beds for planting fruits and vegetables, they learned about trees and planted young trees on campus – to name just a few. And, each activity related to the school-wide service learning theme – sustainability. • We provided support to our faculty through the Summer Fellowship program to fund professional development. Just like our students, Congressional teachers are lifelong learners, and the wealth of inspiration, techniques, and experience they gain through professional development impacts the student learning experience in countless meaningful ways. • Upgrades to the campus were many. Through parent and community support, we installed new interactive whiteboards in all classrooms, upgraded the lockers in the Big School, installed energy efficient lighting in hallways and offices, upgraded our security system, installed a new athletic field scoreboard and more. A special thanks to the Ernest Family for their gift which allowed us to substantially upgrade the sound system in the gymnasium. We are incredibly proud of our accomplishments this year, and your support has been pivotal to our success. Whether you have attended one of our many school events, you have prioritized Congressional in your giving, or you have volunteered on a committee, in the classroom or with the Congressional School Parent Organization - through every action, large or small, you make an impact in the lives of our young learners. Our first annual Congressional Fund Give Day was November 15, 2016. This day was an opportunity for our entire community to come together in support of Congressional School. FAST FACTS

2017 GALA AND AUCTION

Congressional School’s annual fundraising auction has become one of our most anticipated events of the year. Through the generosity of businesses and individuals, we have been able to raise funds to support our programs and enrich the academic lives of our students. Proceeds from the Gala on April 29, 2017 continued the momentum of past years’ events and supported classroom and building enhancements for infants through 8th graders.
