WHAT IS COMEDY? In some cases i t i s hard to put your finger on the answer, but in the majority of c a s e s , set r u l e s can be u s e d . Naturally, i t i s impossible t o get r e a l laughs from a very small audience, no matter how good your m a t e r i a l . Usually the fellow t h a t i s funny for a few in a p a r l o r f a l l s f l a t in front of a crowd on a p l a t f o r m . One does not have t o get b e l l y laughs to have a rvuecessful comedy a c t , so long as he keeps the audience smiling throughout h i s show. I t i s up to the i n d i v i d u a l to find what type of comedy i s best s u i t e d for him. Do not t a k e your f r i e n d ' s or r e l a t i v e ' s word; but t r y i t out on shows. And, d o n ' t l e t the f i r s t show or two stop you, as you may be on the r i g h t track* Adding or t a k i n g away at c e r t a i n p o i n t s w i l l probably help the act immensely. Cash in on y o u r s e l f . That i s , if you are s m a l l , cash in on t h a t p h y s i c a l fact by g e t t i n g the t a l l e s t men or boys in t h e audience to coma up and a s s i s t you. If t a l l , get a r e a l short man t o help and then act very awkward. Consider the case of a well-known movie comedian who s t u t t e r e d , took advantage of t h e fact and made a h i t with audiences due to the a f f l i c t i o n . Also Dr. Rockwell, one of t h e foremost stage comedians, formerly was a Magician in Providence, R . I . His t r i c k s always seemed to go wrong and he would stop and explain why they had not worked. His explanations were always funny and when he r e a l i s e d t h a t t ey made a h i t with h i s audiences, he gave up Magic and took up a. t a l k i n g -act. B i l l W i i i i s t o n of New York City works more club d a t e s than any other Magician in t h a t s e c t i o n due to h i s f a s t , furious Magic act with f a s t and furious p a t t e r , s h o o t ing off guns, running up and down the a i s l e and what n o t . He keeps the f o l k s on the edge of t h e i r s e a t s as they do not know what he i s going to do n e x t . This happens to be the type of act t h a t they l i k e in clubs around New York. Dsll O'Dell of New York City i s another t h a t g e t s a l l the " d a t s s " due to her f a s t and smooth Magic with p l e n t y of novelty and l a u g h s . Both Dell O ' D e l l ' a n d W i i i i s t o n seem to v i b r a t e energy t h e minute they s t e p into a room or onto the s t a g e , and the audience s t r a i g h t e n s up and knows t h a t i t i s going to have fun and enjoy t h a t Magic a c t . In the movie comedies, t h e r e are c e r t a i n set r u l e s . For example, a '.veil dressed person f a l l s and i t i s funny? a
