Distribution
W
e circulate 20,000 magazines to a variety of business types—restaurants, doctor’s offices, hospitals, veterinary offices, libraries, grocery stores, barbershops, boutiques’, beauty shops, automotive shops, tire shops, hospitals, our advertisers, etc.—inside the cities of Eugene and Springfield. We leave 10-200 copies (the quantity left is based on the reader traffic).
Our 20,000 copies serve 38.8% of the households INSIDE these cities. (20,000 minus 500 returns = 19,500 divided by 50,160 = 38.8%.) These numbers tell us that we are serving the market very well—more than one third of all households INSIDE the cities of Eugene and Springfield have a copy of the Oregon Digest! 'Households' used as a factor? This is as honest approach to calculating readership as possible. We believe in counting ‘households’ rather than ‘readers’. The census given ‘households’ is a definitive number where ‘readers’ (commonly used, 1-5 per magazine) is a subjective number. Of course, since there are approximately 2.27 people per household, we could likely project that at least two persons, on the average, read all or part of each magazine. So, for math lovers: 50,160 x .388 (%) = 19,462 x 2 = 38,924 probable readers 'Typical' reader? As best as we can tell, we are serving ages 25+ but are having a greater impact on ages 45+. All the above being said, close your eyes, take a deep breath and think. Can you think of another publication that can be found in more than a third of the households inside the cities of Eugene/Springfield?
