A Right Way To Do Wrong
In view of recent events I felt compelled to revisit a column that first appeared on these pages November 3, 2012. Let's get this straight right now; people are going to cheat. It has nothing to do with not loving the one they are with it just is, what it is. I’m not saying it is right to do so, I’m just saying it was going on in Jesus day, it’s going on today and it will be going on tomorrow. And yes “church going, so-called Christians” are doing it too. As a matter of fact some of you reading this right now are in the midst of breaking commandments # 7 and # 10. And then you have the audacity to pray when you get caught. Not that I’m proud of it but, as one who has fractured a commandment or two in my day, I feel it my duty to help a brother out by letting him know if you will observe a few rules, there is a right way to do wrong. First of all I'm making a great sacrifice in sharing this valuable information but for the sake of saving my brothers I will tread forward. Understand that a true “playa” never shares
everything but I'm going to offer a few rules to live by just in case you decide to step out on your woman. Here are a couple of bonus rules before we get started. A real player never plays after hours. Why spend energy explaining your whereabouts when coming in the house early in the morning? Do your playing during the day and be home with your family at a decent hour. Avoid the hassle of screaming, hollering, and throwing of pots and pans all through what is left of the night. The second rule is simple; Turn your cell phone off when you are at home or place it in the trunk of your car or any place you no your significant other won’t go looking for it. Rule number 1: Never cheat with someone who has less to lose than you do. What does that mean? If you are married you need to cheat with a married woman. Why? Because both of you have something to lose. You will be more careful “slippin’ and dippin’, and peepin’ and creepin” when that is the case. If you're married and you cheat with a single person what does she have to lose by letting your wife know about the
relationship? She will just move on to the next married man while you are sitting on the curb somewhere homeless, carless, and woman-less crying; “I can't believe she did that to me”. Now as a player you always need to be cognizant of the possibility that the married woman you are having an affair with may use your tryst as a way to get out of her marriage by telling her husband, in the midst of a heated argument that she is sleeping with you. Now there are ways to get out of the situation when the husband shows up at your job or calls you in the middle of the night threatening you with bodily harm. That however is covered in my advanced course under the topic “doing your research”. Rule number 2: Never let your right hand know what your left hand is doing. When it comes to cheating you don't have any friends. I'm here to tell you if you're going to do wrong, do wrong by yourself. You can run and tell your boys if you want to, but you need to know your boys will betray you. Your “partners” will snitch on you in a heartbeat. Rest assured at least one of your so-called “boys” will be jealous of you because either they want the woman you got at home or the one you have on the side. Always be wary of one of three brothers, 1) the one that says, “I can't believe you would do your woman like that”, 2) the one that wants the play-by-play of your extramarital relationship and finally, 3) the one that never says anything. He just sits back and listens. They all pose a problem for you but that last one, number three is the one
you really need to watch. He is the one you will catch playing “Mr. Jody”. For you young “wanna be playas” if you don’t believe me ask somebody what did Johnny Taylor say. All I am saying is; sometimes when you leave the house you need to double back. Rule number 3: Cheat up, not down. If you're going to cheat at least do so with someone who looks as attractive or better looking than the one you're with. I mean no disrespect ladies but brothers if you’re living with a Hallie Berry, don't hook up with a Whoopi Goldberg, I'm just saying. Now to some, that may seem a bit insensitive and inconsiderate and I understand. But I also understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that is why someone else is holding them. And while I am on this topic of cheating up and not down this must be said. Brothers if you must cheat with someone of the other persuasion the same rule applies. Please make sure she looks like an Angelina Jolie and not the usual “tore up from the floor up” ones you always seem to gravitate to. If you can't do that at least get with one who has some money. Whether it's her own or her daddy’s is not important, at least when “your people” get to talking about you, you will be able to justify your selection. Rule number 4: Get a good automotive mechanic. You will need one when your “other woman” always seems to show up at the same event you and your wife are at, such as the movies, restaurants, the park
etc. Or worse, why, every time you look in your rearview mirror, you swear you see your wife's car two vehicles behind you. Although the easily accessible GPS gadgets have put a monkey wrench into “a playas” program a good mechanic can search, find, and destroy to keep you invisible. Rule number 5: Like they say you don’t, “ S&*^ where you eat” you also should “Never get your P&%$#@ where you get your paycheck.” Many a supervisor who has crossed the line understands that once you do that you will never get any work done out of that individual. In addition they will make sure others in the office know they are sleeping with you, which will ultimately lead to a serious morale problem. And let's not mention the breakup. Rest assured they would have compiled enough information during the relationship to come back and haunt you for the rest of your days. You thought the information you shared about your employees while you were cuddling after a night of passion was just between the two of you? End the affair and see what happens. Rule number 6: Leave no evidence. Don't send letters, don't send cards signed with your name, don't send e-mails, don't send texts, don't take or send photos with and through your cell phone, don't videotape or be videotaped. Enough said. Rule number 7: Just because you think you got it going on doesn't necessarily mean you do. If you find yourself in an

Seeing and Not Seeing Our Racial Reality “Americans don’t want to imagine that our racist history is actually an ongoing racist reality. We like to look at racism as a thing that has gotten better (if not gone away completely) and that the way black Americans are treated in society is actually colorblind.” Those words, written by Washington Post reporter Philip Bump a year ago, provide context for the polls of last week showing that Americans as a whole believe “race relations” have grown sharply worse in the aftermath of the death of Baltimorean Freddie Gray in police custody and the protests it provoked, and why we once again see a widening of the “racial divide” on issues involving police and Black Americans. For example, the New York Times/CBS News poll found that 61 percent of Americans believe race relations now are generally bad, up from the 44 percent who said so after the police killing of Michael Brown last summer. The Wall Street Journal/NBC News survey found that 96 percent of those polled expect more racial disturbances this summer. The Pew Research Center on the People and the Press poll sought answers to five different major questions in the aftermath of the Baltimore protests. It found that, on the one hand, overall 61 percent of Americans believed the violent protests were largely the result of some people “taking advantage” of the situation to engage in criminal behavior (54 percent of Blacks said so compared to 66 percent of Whites). On the other hand, overall 56 percent of those surveyed also said that tensions between the police and the Black community played a significant role in the protests as well. Not surprisingly, these and other surveys found that Blacks and Whites had significantly different responses to many of the questions. For example, the Wall Street Journal/NBC News survey found that 60 percent of Blacks said the Baltimore protests reflected “longstanding frustrations about police mistreatment of African Americans.” Just 32 percent of Whites agreed. In the New York Times/CBS News poll, 79 percent of Blacks said police are “more likely to use deadly force against a black person” than a White individual; but only 37 percent of Whites said so.
Walter Scott was shot and killed by a North Charleston, South Carolina police officer following a routine traffic stop in the parking lot of an auto parts store. On April 4, 2015, Officer Michael T. Slager pulled over a 1991 Mercedes driven by Walter Scott for a nonfunctional third brake light. Officer Slager approached the vehicle, spoke briefly with Walter Scott, and returned to his patrol car. A short time thereafter Walter Scott bolted from his vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Officer Slager gave chase. The actual traffic stop was captured by patrol car dashcam video. Officer Slager fired his Taser at Walter Scott hitting him once, according to the incident report and city officials. You can hear the officer on the dashcam video announcing “Taser, Taser, Taser.” Not incapacitated by the Taser, Walter Scott again runs away. His back is to Officer Slager. However, instead of giving chase this time, the officer calmly pulls unholsters his weapon, takes aim, and fires eight (8) shots at the back of a fleeing and unarmed Walter Scott. Obviously being hit by one or more of the eight (8) rounds fired at his back, 50-year old Walter Scott drops face down in the dirt. Officer Slager immediately radios Dispatch reporting, “Shots fired and subject is down. He took my Taser.” Interestingly, after firing those eight (8) shots and watching Walter Scott fall face down to the ground, Officer Slager casually strolls toward him with his weapon lowered at his side. How do we know that Officer Slager casually strolled toward a dead or dying Walter Scott with his weapon lowered and not trained on the subject lying face down as you would expect? Praise God, there is an eye witness and a video recording. Officer Slager’s story was apparently good enough for the North Charleston Police Department until a video of the incident was released to the public about four (4) days later.
that push that
The video was recorded by Feiden Santana, who is the real hero of this story. Feiden Santana did not have to video the shooting or even come forward. He could have turned his head and walked away instead of putting his own life in danger by walking as close as he did recording with his a camera phone. He could have deleted the recording and chose not to get involved, like many here in Columbus choose to do whenever fellow citizens are victims of police misconduct. I am not saying that Feiden Santana was not afraid or did not struggle mightily with his decision to do all that he did. It was wise of him to be afraid enough to get with the attorney for the victim’s family before talking to police. Although afraid, in the end this young man did the right thing for the right reasons, which is what we should all do in these situations. Not only had Feiden Santana captured Officer Michael

None of these surveys’ individual or overall findings are surprising, of course. In fact, Americans’ new worry about worsening race relations is just the latest turn of the wheel of the continuing dynamic of “racial déjà vu” I wrote about in a recent column: a racial crisis loop rooted in the age-old issue of Black Americans’ status in American society. Incidents of sharp racial controversy

Being raised in a single parent household, odds were against us, we were susceptible to poverty. During my journey to make a better life for my family I started to realize that not everyone around me had made that same choice. Some people feel that they know no other way besides crime and violence, but that is a lie that someone teaches them or that they convince themselves is the truth. The truth is, there is another way… a better way. This way sometimes just means that you have to make a sacrifice today in order to have a brighter tomorrow. You may not be able to get the new “jay’s” today, but if you save that money, you can get a safe and comfortable home for you and your family. Those who have never experienced life in a lower economic status won’t be able to relate nor will they be able to tell you what it truly takes to make it out of poverty. Initially I thought money was the cure for poverty, but I quickly realized through my own experiences that poverty wasn’t just about finances. People who remain in poverty are typically there because of their mentality, the choices they make and the lifestyle they choose to live. Granted some may have an illness or disability which prevents them from obtaining financial stability, but in cases where people are fully capable of being financially independent, I think it’s safe to say, their financial mentality is keeping them in poverty. Again, my first thought was that you need to make a lot of money to get out of poverty. Win the lottery. Go to college to be a lawyer or a doctor. The reality is that, that doesn’t guarantee you to be free from poverty. Maybe temporarily, but the true financial advancement will only come once your mentality and lifestyle changes. For example if you have one person that makes $1,000 a month and spends $800 a month versus a person who makes $10,000 a month and spends $12,000 a month… the person who is spending less then what they make is going to be in a better financial situation in the long run. Even if their overall earnings isn’t a lot you have to be in the mind set of investing and saving. Accruing assets and wealth as opposed to consuming possessions and debt. Indeed, there are so many variables that go into finances but the intention of this post is to simply build awareness on the fact that poverty is just as much a mind state as it is a financial state and in order to get out of it you need to change the way you think about money.

Will New Leadership Benefit Minority-Owned Businesses? gram. They were very helpful. They referred me to a number of individuals as resources and as a result Marie Cordero along with Cristina Richards who is now with SunTrust Bank came up with the name “Eco Latino” for the Hispanic side of this publication.
By Wane A. Hailes Special To The Courier On June 1, 2015 Brian D. Anderson takes the reins as the new President/CEO of the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce. Anderson replaces Mike Gaymon who served as its CEO for over 25 years. As always with new leadership there is hope of rejuvenation, recommitment and an opportunity to refocus on the mission and goals of the organization. No one is more hopeful that things will be different than the African-American and Hispanic communities along with the minority-owned businesses our publication represents. However, even as we sit in anticipation, it is hard to believe that, “A Change is Gonna Come”, based on Anderson’s recent Chamber experience. According to their website, as the former President and CEO of the Greater Dalton Georgia Chamber, Anderson led an organization with no minorities on its administrative staff or serving on its Board of Directors. Come the first of the month he will walk into familiar territory with very little difference save that a couple of African-Americans serve on the Board of Directors.
When I arrived in Columbus twenty-five years ago as the General Director/CEO of the A.J. McClung YMCA the first thing I did was to join the Chamber. As a young professional, thirty-four years of age and new to the community it was, at the time, the organization to be in if you wanted to get to know the city and people who ran it. I was involved in various committees and was a graduate of the Leadership Columbus class of 1992. To this day I can say my best experience with the Chamber of Commerce to date was the nine months I spent going through Leadership Columbus. Many of the friends and relationships I have today are a direct result from the time spent in that particular program. I attended Chamber functions for another three to four years but eventually just stopped going. No real reason other than I couldn’t fit it in my schedule of things to do. In 2005, almost ten years later I rejoined the Chamber. This time at age 49, I was starting a new business, this publication, and as a new business everyone knows you have to be a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Prior to joining I met Ron Hinze and the late Marie Cordero who were responsible for the Small Business Development pro-
From 2005 through about 2009 I served on the Black Business Outreach (BBO) and Hispanic Business Outreach (HBO) committees. As Chairman of the BBO many of the minorityowned businesses, myself included, began to question the benefit of being a Chamber member. We eventually realized that although they claimed that: “No matter how large or small your business, with a Chamber membership you expand your workforce and your business prospects by putting our staff of trained professionals to work helping you grow your personal skills and your business. When you join the Chamber, you hire all of us to go to work for you.” That was not necessarily true. In fact, contrary to what they professed, they had become a faceless enterprise, inaccessible and seemingly more concerned with solving the problems of the larger corporations than those of us who were just starting out. That, coupled with the fact that there was no one on the administrative staff that “looked like us” or at the least could identify with the unique problems minority-owned businesses face every day, many of us left the organization at that time with feelings that all they wanted from us was our money. In most cases certain business practices are universal, however, until the leadership of the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce begins to understand that there are some unique challenges that minority-business owners are faced
with on a daily basis they will continue to be threatened with the need for a Black and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. In their April 2015 issue for aspiring Black entrepreneurs who want to know where their businesses will most likely thrive, Black Enterprise Magazine ranked Columbus, Georgia the number one city in the country. Today, because of companies downsizing and the lack of available jobs in the area, many AfricanAmericans in Muscogee County are realizing that their “passion can provide them with a paycheck”. Armed with an idea and an entrepreneurial spirit they are seeking out the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce as a resource. The problem is how long will it take for them to realize that nothing has changed. How long will it take for them to become disillusioned waiting on the promises from an organization that never materializes? In our rapidly changing community where minorities are now the majority, and make up a third of all businesses in Muscogee County, as we continue to grow it would be in the best interest of the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce to make a concerted effort in taking a proactive
stance to promote, nurture and grow Black and Hispanic-owned businesses in our community. It would be important that the chamber of commerce would devise a more efficient and transparent framework where information and resources could be further leveraged to make our businesses more successful. Columbus is a great community. We just want what every one wants; to be able to provide for our families. In a perfect world it would be ideal if the Chamber had a number of staff and board members who looked like me, but to be perfectly honest it doesn’t matter if the CEO, all of the administrative staff and every one of the chamber board members are “Lily-White”. as long as they “do the right thing.” Let me use this analogy. Think of a child waiting and wanting desperately to be adopted. That child doesn’t care what color the parents who chooses him are. Their only concern is that they are nurturing, supportive and provides them with the guidance to be the best that they can be. That is all we, as minority business owners, are asking for. We’ll wait Leadership” about the desparately
to see if “New will indeed bring change we so need.

Who’s Got Next?... Young Professionals On The Move Nadine Haralson, provides up close and personal interviews with young professionals who are making a difference in our community. Join us each issue as we introduce, recognize, and celebrate those individuals in Columbus, Phenix City and Ft. Benning who are… “On The Move”
Scooter McCullough
By Nadine Haralson The Courier When you meet Scooter, you can’t help but to just like him, and you probably won’t be able to quite figure out why at first. Raised right here in Columbus, Georgia, McCullough graduated from Shaw High School in 1999, and when most youth are trying to figure out what their next step will be things were, “On the Move”, for this young teen immediately. Having been the basketball-leading scorer of his wheelchair basketball team, he was asked to join an International League which lead him to the Jr. ParaOlympics in Amsterdam where he won winning a gold medal Even though confined to a wheelchair that has never gotten in his way. “As a kid my mom treated me just the same as anybody else, as though my wheelchair didn’t exist. I swept the floor, did chores, and was even disciplined like the rest of my siblings,” says McCullough.
Chequelle Brown
After returning home from Amsterdam, McCullough ran into an old friend who was in real estate and suggested he give it a try. Deciding between starting college or Real Estate, when opportunity knocked, he chose Real Estate.
that you can be successful in this business without compromising who you are, have a family and make it work, Chequelle explains, “and Oprah of course because she laid the foundation so that young black girls like me would have no excuse to not be who we want to be.”
“When I got into the real Estate business I just knew I was going to be successful”, boasts Scooter. “I just believed, If someone else can do well, can have something, or get it, why can’t I.”
Working with D30 Entertainment has allowed Chequelle to grow and display her real talents. As host of her own internet radio show titled “Real Talk with Chequelle”, this sassy, educated diva known for speaking her mind and telling it like it is, enjoys the opportunity to discuss the latest in current events, entertainment and world issues. “I say exactly how I feel and I mean it.”
Currently president of the Young Professionals Network for Realtors, McCullough has been in the realty for the past ten years and explains that while the average age for a Realtor is about 50 he feels he has an advantage because he knows people from the bottom to the top, created a lot of great business relationships and friendship, he’s young, creative, and has created his own unique way of getting the job done. Not only is McCullough on a mission to find anyone their perfect home, but also he is on a silent venture to stay involved in his community. Having been an active Soccer coach since he was 17, Scooter also helps out with various programs for underprivileged children. “Giving back is not something that I feel I need to mention that I do, or need recognition for, I just do it, because, why not.” Such a truly humble individual whom, once you meet, you’ll feel like you have known for years. He is full of life, energy and jokes. What’s in to for this enthusiastic go getter, well soon he’ll be trying his luck in the television world teaming up with radio personality Charlamagne Tha God in Uncommon Sense a social media comedy. With a successful outlook on life we’re sure you’ll be just that. A SUCCESS!
By Nadine Haralson The Courier My granddaddy always used to say, “work for whatever it is you want with no apologies”, so that’s exactly what I’m doing, explains Chequelle Brown. Originally from Macon, GA, Brown graduated from Westside High School in 2010. Realizing she had nine brothers and sisters watching her every move, Brown quickly decided to take the first steps to navigate her own life by moving to Columbus. She enrolled in Columbus State University graduating in December 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication. Desperate to get her feet wet in the entertainment business, she tarted out as an intern at PMB Broadcasting, shortly after she became in intern at D30 Radio where she found a true home and growth. “TV and the radio world has always been for me” shares Brown, who credits celebrities as some of her biggest influences. “I love LaLa Anthony’s drive, she constantly proves
But, if you think dishing the latest celebrity gossip, and “giving it to you raw” is all that this Southern Belle is about, then you’ve got it twisted. With her celebrity influences being the epitome of what a hardworking women is, Chequelle seeks to pass the same influence to other young ladies. As an active member of “When I Grow Up”, a non-profit organization established through D30 Entertainment, Again it is an opportunity where they give back to the community by uplifting and motivating kids in the community through various venues, and activates. “The organization has changed my life tremendously. I get to talk to kids about various topics that they are dealing with today realizing in most cases they are the same issues I dealt with as a kid and teen. I get a chance to be there for them and guide them. Most of them are determined and waiting for someone to pull the greatness out of them.” Aspiring to be one of the biggest entertainers to have ever touched a hosting microphone, Brown explains when she’s working it’s her escape from the

Daniels From Page 4 has arrived. They’re repeatedissue to the top of the American agenda always lead Americans – largely, White Americans – to believe race relations are getting worse. One reason is that White Americans have always been significantly shielded, by government and privatesector actions, from the reality most Black Americans of high and low status face every day. Another is that the White majority has historically always taken refuge in the belief that the lack of a racial explosion means, as Bump wrote, the promised land of racial equality of opportunity and treatment
Love From Page 4 Slager on video shooting Walter Scott down like a rabid dog or wild animal, the video shows the officer casually approaching Walter Scott with service weapon lowered, then after handcuffing already dead or dying Walter Scott, the officer runs back to point “A” and picks up what very much appears to be the Taser gun and, in the presence of another police officer, places it next to the body of Walter Scott. Do not be shocked or surprised at the actions of Officer Slager. Some police officers live by the lie and the cover-up, and some fellow officers will turn their heads or simply keep quiet about what they see those officers do. That is the reality. When it is all said and done, just because a person takes an oath, puts on a badge and uniform, and straps on a gun, that does not make the person any more or any less By George E. Curry NNPA Columnist
How Can you Tell When a Politician is Lying? When he moves his lips. Though originally intended as a joke, the number of candidates who have declared as for president have already ushered in a cascade of lies – and the situation will only grow worse as more climb aboard. Fortunately, there are at least two non-partisan fact-checking
ly shocked to discover that’s not so. One fresh proof that’s still not so today can be found in the April employment data released last week by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. The good news was that the overall unemployment rate was essentially unchanged at 5.4 percent. The “shocking” news was that, while the White unemployment rate was 4.7 percent, the Black unemployment rate in April was 9.6 percent—and that this actually represented a decline from its being above 10 percent in human. In other words, if the police officer wants to lie, cheat, steal, or kill and then avoid punishment or prosecution for the wrongdoing, then that officer will do and say whatever they need to. By no means do we live in a perfect world. There is no perfect society and no perfect human beings, which includes law enforcement officers. Citizens around the country with the attitudes that law enforcement can do no wrong as long as they do not do it to them or their loved ones, those are the people that directly contribute to the police brutality and the use of excessive force. They are the people that think the victim, innocent or guilty, deserves whatever brutality the police officers chooses inflict on them at the time, especially when they do not identify with the victim in any significant way. Whenever these callous heartgroups that try to hold politic i a n s accountable for their less than accurate assertions. One is FactCheck.org, a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania that describes itself as “a nonpartisan, nonprofit “consumer advocate” for voters that aims to reduce the
February and March. (The unemployment rate for Asian Americans was 4.4 percent; that of Hispanic Americans was 6.9 percent.) Think of that: While the White unemployment rate is officially near the generally accepted level for “full employment,” the Black unemployment rate is now just a few points below the 10.0-percent unemployment high-water mark reached during the Great Recession.
study by the Center for Economic and Policy Research, a progressive Washingtonbased think tank, found that in 2013, 12.4 percent of Black college graduates between 22 and 27 were unemployed, compared with the national rate of 5.6 percent, and that even those Black graduates with degrees in the sciences, engineering, technology and mathematics were enduring high unemployment and underemployment rates.
And that’s not merely the result of poorly educated Blacks lacking labor-market skills. A 2014
Study after study over the past two decades has shown why that particular gap persists: con-
ed people with their haughty attitudes are assigned to jury duty, they are going to exonerate law enforcement no matter what the witnesses or evidence says to the contrary. It would not matter if the police officer shot and killed ten (10) unarmed citizens under highly questionable circumstances, as long as it is not a citizen they identified with on some level or had personal reason to care about. That sort of prejudice thinking in and of itself is criminal.
of the public. That bad message, the resulting attitudes and actions, along with poor leadership at the top are contributing factors in the shooting deaths of victims like John Crawford III, Tamir Rice, Walter Scott, and others across this country.
All good citizens should certainly be very thankful for and supportive of the brave men and women that honorably serve in the law enforcement profession. However, in our gratitude and support we must also be very careful not to send the message to law enforcement officers that they are above the law and can do no wrong whatsoever in the eyes
Officer Michael Thomas Slager was arrested by the North Charleston Police Department and charged with murder, which may appear on the surface to be a good start. Nevertheless, you can never really be sure in these matters. I know that for a fact. These things will look good at the beginning, but will not look so good later into the process and the politics of it all. Remember what happen in the Kenneth Walker case, not to mention the Michael Brown case? You never know what these district attorneys or their assistants will do or fail to do when they get behind the closed doors of the secret
level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics.” The second is Politifact.com operated by the Tampa Bay Times. The 2016 political season is just opening, but as each candidate opens his or her mouth, what’s leaving their lips is frequently false. Here are a few examples: Speaking on April 24, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) declared that worldwide threats “require strong American leadership, which we cannot exert as long
as we eviscerate military spending, which is what we are doing now. We are placing our nation at a dangerous position.” Referring to this nation’s nuclear stockpiles, Rubio said, “We are the only nation that is not modernizing its nuclear weapons.” Politifact’s Finding: “Rubio said that the United States ‘is not modernizing its nuclear weapons.’ Most of the experts we interviewed disputed Rubio’s statement. While the United States has reduced the num-
tinued racial discrimination in the job market. That’s another “racial reality” America’s White majority likes to pretend it can’t see. Lee A. Daniels is a longtime journalist based in New York City. His essay, “Martin Luther King, Jr.: The Great Provocateur,” appears in Africa’s Peacemakers: Nobel Peace Laureates of African Descent (2014), published by Zed Books. grand jury process, and it does not matter how nice the DA or ADA is as a person. The truth is there is still a long road ahead before the Scott family gets justice for their loved one. Let us pray for justice for Walter Scott, as well as for all victims of police brutality across this nation. We also should be in constant prayer for the large number of good law enforcement officers putting their lives on the line and doing the job right on a daily basis. They are the ones that truly represent what the law enforcement profession is all about. I am very proud to say that I know a number of them right here in our city. Unfortunately, under the current public safety director and leadership in Columbus Police Department, those are not the officers lifted up within the department. Until next time, may God bless you and keep you all.

Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) recently unveiled the medical library named in honor of the school’s late founding trustee, Dr. M. Delmar Edwards. MSM presented this honor to Dr. Edwards’ family for his continuous contributions to the school’s growth, education of health care leaders and Georgia medicine. The Columbus, Ga. African-American surgeon, activist, educator and philanthropist left a lasting impact on the Georgia community. He understood the obstacles of financial burdens that medical students faced while advancing towards a career in medicine and worked to help relieve those burdens. Since 1989, through one of MSM’s largest endowed scholarship funds -
“It is only befitting that MSM celebrate the dedicated service of Dr. M. Delmar Edwards’ work to advance the health equity of Georgia individuals and communities through the increased diversity of health professionals,” said MSM President and Dean Valerie Montgomery Rice, M.D. “He used his medical professional platform to bridge diverse communities that work inspired change and unity.” Dr. Edwards, the third African-American admitted to the University Of Arkansas College Of Medicine, was educated at Central State University in Ohio, Atlanta University and Morehouse College. The husband, father and grandfather who many grew to cherish overcame great odds to become a leading surgeon and leader. Despite the odds he later became the Chief of the General Surgery Section and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the Medical Center in Columbus and served as the President of the Georgia State Medical Association.

View From Page 3 affair with a much younger woman first of all remember Rule #1. Contrary to what advertisers want you to believe “60” is not the new “30”. You can believe them if you want to. That young girl will have your nose so wide open if it rained you would drown. Keeping it real, she's not attracted to you; she's attracted to your money. If you are 65 and she is 25 what do you really have in common? She's on Facebook while you are trying to “book your face” with a plastic surgeon. She is on twitter and you’re searching for tweezers, trying to pull the hairs out of your ears. Look,
don’t fall in love, just enjoy the ride and if you're lucky, at your funeral, your boys will file past your casket in their wheelchairs and walkers with envy saying, “at least he died with a smile on his face.” Rule number 8: Never leave your wife for the other person. If you want to leave your relationship then leave. But don’t do it because you think you are getting something better. The grass ain't always greener on the other side. If you have spent 10 years with your wife you know all of her problems, issues, and idiosyncrasies. Likewise she knows
yours. You have no earthly idea what kind of baggage this “new grass is going to bring” but you can best believe, she is going to bring some. It may seem all cute and cozy and “LuvvyDovey” now, but “after the night is over, after the night before”, you're going to find out what you had wasn't that bad. Rule number 9: when it is done let it be done. When she says it's over let it go. Don't follow them in your car and don't follow them in your friend's car. Don't waste your time sending flowers and gifts. Don't stand outside their window singing or serenading. Don't con-
tinue to call or text begging to get back together. I promise you if you continue to harass her on her job you will only end up in "The Joint". Well that’s the end of class for today. That's all I can do for you. The Bible says; “My people perish for a lack of knowledge.” I feel as though I've done my part. The rest is up to you “playa”. Oh yes, by the way, don't be surprised or get mad at your wife when you realize you've been living with a "Playette". After all what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

With social media being so easy to access, all of the beautiful pictures of Mothers with their children were plastered everywhere for the world to awe and adore. Everyone seems to have had beautiful Mother’s Day except Tyga, Black Chyna, and their families. There is no secret that the model Black Chyna and rapper Tyga have a beautiful son named King together. Tyga is allegedly dating Kylie Jenner from the Kardashian Clan, and that within itself has stirred up conflict. On Mother’s Day Chyna’s mother took to her instagram account to express exactly how she feels about the “Ayo” rapper and his family after his grandmother allegedly made this comment about her daughter: “We all love Kylie and think she is so much better for Tyga than Blac. Yes she

Tyga and his family have denied that his grandmother made such comments. They claim that the story is truly false, but whatever the case may be, we hope that these superstar families can come together in the name of peace for baby King. Good Luck!
New Reality Show Alert: Lil Kim Rapper Lil Kim is coming back to our television screens very soon! The last time the rap legend graced our screens in a reality television show of her own was when she was counting down the days until she headed to prison for perjury. May 21, 2015 On a May 5 visit to Nevada, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said, “This is where I differ with everybody on the Republican side. Make no mistake: Not a single Republican candidate, announced or potential, is clearly and consistently supporting a path to citizenship. Not one. When they talk about legal status, that is code for secondclass status.” Politifact: said, “She’s telling voters who want a path to citizenship that there’s no one on the Republican side who supports that issue. That is not accurate. There is one – [Senator Lindsey] Graham. She does have a point that the other dozen or so candidates either
have never backed a path to citizenship or have sent mixed signals. On balance, we rate Clinton’s claim Mostly False.” FactCheck.org noted, “In March, [Ben] Carson claimed that being gay is ‘absolutely’ a choice, and as proof he said ‘a lot of people’ go into prison and change their sexual orientation while incarcerated. There is no evidence to support these claims. Carson apologized for his remarks, but in doing so made another error by claiming that ‘we do know, however, that we are always born male and female.’ That’s not entirely accurate. Disorders of sex development, also known as intersex disorders, occur in about one in 4,500 births and have raised
questions about the malefemale gender dichotomy.” FactCheck.org analyzed Senator Rand Paul’s recent comment that the attack on the Muhammad Art Exhibit and Cartoon Contest in Garland, Texas, was “an example of how we do need to secure our border.” However, the fact-checkers noted, “but neither of the attackers crossed the southern border to gain access to the U.S. Both were Americans who were believed to have been radicalized in their hometown of Phoenix.” This is going to be a long and bitter campaign to determine who will become our next president. To remain informed
and astute, voters will need to regularly check out the candidates’ assertions. After all, just because politicians move their lips doesn’t mean we have to believe them.
