Davis Broadcasting CEO Announces Daughter As Vice President/General Manager

According to the street committee, during an emotional moment at the company’s 15th annual Women’s Empowerment Luncheon held at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center, Greg Davis, CEO and founder of Davis Broadcasting Inc. announced his daughter Geniece Davis Granville’s

The Street Committee

promotion to vice president and general manager of the family business.

Granville, who has worked for the business in a variety of positions over the last six years is a graduate of Hardaway High School, Spelman College and earned a law degree from University of Georgia Law School.

A native of Arkansas, Greg Davis started Davis Broadcasting in June 1986 with his wife, Cheryl. The company now owns 10 stations - six in Columbus and four in Atlanta. The six in Columbus are: WFXE Foxie 105, WOKS AM 1340, WKZJ K92.7, WIOL ESPN, WEAM Praise 100.7 and WOKS AM 1340.

Is Local Hospital Taking Out Credit Cards On Indigent Patients? According to a source extremely close to situation the street committee has learned that there is a practice at a local hospital to gather personal information from patients who cannot pay their hospital bill and use that information to obtain a credit card in the patients name. According to the street committee that credit card is then used to pay their bill. Stay tuned to the street committee as we continue to investigate the legality of this practice.

A VIEW FROM A PEW

THURSDAY MARCH 16, 2017

But By The Grace Of God.....12 Years and Counting pose, my calling, my ministry.

The Courier Eco Latino newspaper was founded for the same reason Samuel Cornish and John B. Russwarm started the very first African-American paper in 1827 called Freedom’s Journal. Freedom’s Journal initiated the trend of African American papers throughout the United States to fight for liberation and rights, demonstrate racial pride, and inform readers of events affecting the African-American community.

It seems like only yesterday on March 25, 2005 the Courier Eco Latino newspaper published for the first time, and twelve years later we are still here. I still believe there is more that He has in store for me but I know with out a shadow of doubt this is my pur-

Our mission, which we’ve chosen to accept, is the same as our fore fathers in publication, Cornish and Russwarm. In our case we have taken it one step further as we offer the African Americans and Hispanics of our community an opportunity to see the news through the lens of their own eyes. Most times, as you can imagine and have witnessed over the years, that view is a far cry from the view reported in the Ledger-Enquirer and local television stations. After twelve years it is no question we have solidified ourselves as a

respected news publication because of our commitment to truth, honesty and integrity. From day one we placed our emphasis and efforts on those political, social or economic issues that impact our lives. We confront the issues that need confronting and ask the questions that need to be asked. That is what we try to do with every issue, in an effort to stand true to the history of the Black press. From the very beginning we set our focus covering local news specific to Columbus, Ft. Benning and Phenix City as opposed to state and national coverage. This was and remains a conscientious effort, given our readers immediate access to information through the growing avenues provided by social media. By remaining laser-focused on local news it allows us to continue to stake our claim as the voice of a new era, a voice that inspires, empowers, informs and when necessary entertains our community. As our demographic and level of awareness, concern and

commitment from and by our people continues to grow so too must we, as a newspaper evolve. Our goal for the future is that we become, to this community, the leading source for an authoritative perspective on the African American and Hispanic communities. Two years ago we introduced Courier Eco Latino, The Magazine, a publication that has become the premiere showcase of the vibrancy of our cultures as we use it to introduce the variety of people of color in our area who continue to positively influence our community in making it a better place to “Live, Grow and Play.” Last year we assembled a group of young entrepreneurs who we consider experts in their field, and formed an advertising agency; The Courier Eco Latino Group”, an advertising agency focused on the burgeoning African-American and Hispanic marketplace and our unique and unparalleled role to help businesses meet the growing demand this specialized market deserves.

3

As our new year begins we have once again ventured out and assembled a group of individuals who we consider experts in their field, and formed CEL TV (Courier Eco Latino Television); a website based TV station providing programs that are inspirational, informative and empowering. Programming will begin later this year at www.couriernews.org. Finally we are proud to announce we recently took over ownership of the Columbus Black History Museum and Archives. We will have more regarding that aqusition at a later date.

This is just the beginning of great things to come from us this year including our annual Community Service Awards event which will feature national recording artist Howard Hewitt on July 22, 2017. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to continuing to serve you.

Wane A. Hailes

Robert Glenn’s Road To Repair

For as long as he can remember Robert Glenn has been repairing automotive vehicles. “Growing up in Blakely, Georgia my father, a well-known mechanic in the area, taught me and my four brothers how to repair cars. There were days when my dad had us out in the yard fixing cars until three and four in the morning.”

THURSDAY MARCH 16, 2017

Glenn called his business GA-5 aptly meaning Glenn After 5pm. A mobile business, he provided roadside auto repair and emergency services. He became so busy with GA-5 that he quit his day job and became a 24hour mobile vehicle service.

A perfect example of the saying; “If you find your passion, you’ll find your paycheck”; Glenn says, “I realized at an early age I had a talent for repairing vehicles. Fortunately, as a result of that talent I have been able to make a fairly decent living providing for my family.”

He started his first auto repair business at the age of 18 in his hometown. Over the years Robert honed his skills becoming certified in repairing a variety of vehicles including buses, trucks, skilled heavy equipment and auto paint and body work. Moving to Columbus he started his business the smart way, working full time for Robinsons Paving Company repairing their heavy equipment vehicles during the day and working for himself after he clocked out.

As a master mechanic with numerous certifications Glenn remained in demand for his services and in 2013 he opened his first building and today, Glenn’s After Hours Repair Service is located at 4821 Milgen Road in C o l u m b u s , Georgia specializing in all mechanical needs. From automobiles to farm equipment he can fix it. His friendly, professional and knowledgeable staff along with the affordable prices keeps his customers coming back whenever there is a need.

Robert’s certifications include: ASE, Harsco Hy-Rail Equipment Inspection, Crane Inspection, Heavy Duty NGV Maintenance and Diagnostics and he is the only certified CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) Inspector/Operator in Columbus and surrounding areas.

EXTRAORDINARY INTENTIONS By Jonathan “Bam” Rivers

Stop Killing Time

EMPOWER - INSPIRE - INFORM

What's up? What are you doing? Not much, just killing time! How many times has that been your response to your activity at some point? If the answer is anything more than zero, that must change now! Time is neutral and can be used either constructively or destructively. There are no two people with the exact same skill sets, but everyone has the exact same 24 hrs in a day to be successful. Take the time to use any avenue to learn, grow and be stretched. When you kill time, you rapidly kill your chance to live and experience the joy of making your dreams become a reality. You have all the time in the world to be great, but you don't have any time to waste! A graduate of Shaw High School and Auburn University Jonathan Rivers is a motivational speaker and TV host. DEAR JOHN JANEE’

HI JANEE’ I've been single for over 4 years and just can't seem to find a man. I'm not sure what it is. Some say my standards are too high, others say I'm not approachable, I've heard it all. I disagree with all of them. I think men don't approach women as much they use to. I'm 33 years old and I remember being a teenager and in my early 20's I couldn't keep men off me. Then again I always had a man so maybe that was it. They say when you're with someone that's when everyone else wants you right? I want to be in a relationship. I have a 8 year old son and would like to have more kids sooner rather than later. I also want to be married. What should I do? KIM

HEY KIM,

What should you do? I really can't tell you what to do. I will ask you are you putting it out there that you want to be in a relationship? Sometimes when we've been single

March 16, 2017 for so long(I can relate...Lol) we don't realize how we may be coming off. Are you going out to meet different people and I don't mean to clubs, maybe art galleries, networking events, sporting games, concerts, just the social scene all together. Strike up a conversation with stranger in the grocery store(check for his wedding ring first...Lol). Open yourself up to what may not be or feel normal to you. We are living in a different day and age what worked for you then may not work now. I will agree with you it does seem as though men do not approach as much and I myself haven't figured out why yet. To wrap it up just be available and open to receive what it is you want. I don't know you personally so I can't tell you your standards are too high only you know what you will and will not put up with. Go down your list is there something you want that you can possible do without? I use to say I didn't want a man with children but realized that is something I can relax on, it's not that big of a deal and because I love kids Anyhoo take your time don't rush into anything, I know its been 4 years but when it's time for you to be in the RIGHT relationship it will happen
