GreyBox - Computational Toolmaking for Architectural Conceptualization
Graduate Architecture Thesis: Ayden Kim, Ryan Conner, Ryan Stangl
This study explores how computational methodologies might augment conventional design processes in the context of architectural pre-design and schematic design. More speci cally, it explores methodologies which show promise for enabling more intuitive and rapid data driven exploration within conceptual architectural design.
This question is explored using an in depth review of available literature spanning multiple related disciplines including current computational methods, creativity support, cognitive augmentation, and design theory. This knowledge is put to practice in the creation of a prototype computational tool focused on the creation of urban context, display of social and environmental information within this context, illustration of related regulatory limitations, and comparison of design alternatives.
