Alex Giacabetti, 25, a South Philly resident agreed to show me around his home in Avalon and to explain what impact Sandy and FEMA have had on his families wellbeing.

Huricane Sandy swept through the East Coast particularly the Northeast in 2012. Sandy Damaged thousands of homes, displaced families and shut down business’s. FEMA, continues to innefectivly handle the situation going as far as to ask families to pay back some of the money they recieved. The anger and hurt that families feel has resurfessed as a FEMA whistle blower has recently stepped up claiming that they incorrectly reviewed claims to pay out less.

A storm drain that had to be replaced in Avalon, NJ on Saturday November 5th, 2016.

Alex pointed out some of the water damage around his house “We fixed most of the big stuff but just cant afford to manage all the problems the storm created

“It’s just frustrating that 4 years later we still haven’t gotten what we needed.”

Sandy effected local business’s as well like this ice cream shop and mini golf course that was destroyed by flood waters.

This property was too expensive to fix and fell into disrepair after the storm. There have been several uncoordinated attempts to fix it up or tear it down but no-one has followed through yet.
