Celebrate Nature

Dear FriendS:

The new Conservancy of Southwest Florida Nature Center campus offers many opportunities to experience nature, including 21 acres of trails, wetlands, gazebos and a lagoon flourishing with mangroves, native grasses, wildflowers and visiting wildlife. Since this is our “sneak preview” year, we will phase-in the opening of the various new buildings and activities throughout the year, with an anticipated grand reopening in November 2012. Details and estimated timing of the openings are contained in this Activities book. While we have done our best to estimate the timing, please understand that they are subject to change.

Our team has designed exciting and fun field trips for you to enjoy with your friends and family, so please take advantage of the special introductory membership rates and special members discounts on our programs.

In the midst of all this excitement at the Conservancy Nature Center, our program staff remains focused on working on your behalf to protect our water, land and wildlife through policy, science, education, and wildlife initiatives. This is only the beginning of a new era for the Conservancy. Your continued membership and support is critical to our mission to protect our paradise for generations to come. Thank you in advance for your continued support and we hope you share in the excitement of the opening of our new Nature Center.

The Conservancy of Southwest Florida offers aspiring environmental leaders the opportunity to gain valuable skills and training in specific areas of interest. Our Conservation Associates (Interns) come from all parts of the world and support the success of our water, land and wildlife initiatives in environmental policy, environmental science, wildlife rehabilitation, and environmental education. 239.403.4211 or conservancy.org/intern

Environmental Policy

“This environmental policy internship has provided me with first hand knowledge of the internal workings of local and county governments, a proficiency in Geographical Information Systems and an introduction to the environmental network in southwest Florida.”

Sea Turtle Research

”There is no doubt that the Conservancy sea turtle internship program helped set the stage for my career path. During my time as an intern I not only learned a lot about the biology of sea turtles but also realized, more fully, my personal role in the conservation of our natural resources.”

Wildlife Rehabilitation

“I always liked animals, but never had a chance to do much with them until now. Working with native wildlife has changed my way of thinking. You have to be dedicated – it’s hard work. But once you release a hawk that you’ve been nursing back to health, it is all worth it. I’ll never forget this experience.”

Youth Programs

“One of my greatest accomplishments is giving the campers everything they want and still be able to leave them wanting to know more about our environment. I have really grown through this experience.” 36 www.conservancy.org
