WHAT’S NEW
In response to the growing national, international, and global interest in Green Design and in pursuit of promoting Quality, Excellence and Competitiveness among the Architecture and Engineering sector in Jordan, the A/E Business Council took the initiative to stay up to date with these developments through establishing the Green Building Unit. Eng. Said Abujaber, The Chairman of Architecture and Engineering Business Council (A/E Business Council) and Chairman and CEO of the Consolidated Consultants Group (CC Group), set off the tasks of the 2014 iSustain initiative, which is held for the second year in a row in Columbia Global Centers/Middle East – Amman, with the participation of an elite jury comprised of local, regional and international members, from Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, USA and Italy.
The GBU (GREEN BUILDING UNIT) launched the Initiative which was a competition on a national level between the architecture students of 9 Jordanian universities. The process for the competition starts early on in the final academic year where 3 different projects are assigned for students to provide design solution for. The competition is evaluated on the architectural image as well as the holistic sustainable approach to insure that the project fits within the required context. “the Council is implementing this initiative to support the objectives we are trying to achieve, through emphasizing the importance of cooperation among students, university professors and engineers who work in the private sector. We also try to bridge the gap between the academic and practical aspects of this industry, and we will try to offer our support to the students and equip them properly for the market, and enrich them with the required experience” Mr. Abujaber said. www.group-cc.com

ERBIL 150 M FREEWAY a look to the future expansion A master plan for Erbil City to the year 2030 was prepared by the Ministry of Municipalities of the Kurdistan Regional Government in 2007, the master plan shows the future city as a series of concentric circular roads starting from the citadel and extending more than 30 kilometers in all directions
The existing Erbil City is located within the hundred meter road referred as (Ring Road 5). The city is expected to expand outside ring road 5. Therefore an extendable road grid concept (Concentric Grid) was proposed in the master plan which shows how the road network might expand well beyond the existing network The Ministry of Municipalities & Tourism of the Kurdistan Regional Government / Erbil Municipality has commissioned Consolidated Consultants (CC) Group to carry out the engineering studies and detailed designs & preparation of contract documents for the (150m) (Ring Road 8)around Erbil City. INTERCHANGES
STRUCTURES
Traditional full cloverleaf interchange type is adopted for five intersections namely Kirkuk, Makhmur, Koysinjaq, Dohouk, and Shaqlawa.
The bridges and structures used in our design are a construction friendly type which will reduce cost and time of construction. Furthermore, these structures are designed taking into consideration safety, loading in Kurdistan and seismic forces of the area.
The main advantage of a full cloverleaf interchange type is that all traffic movements are served through the interchange with only one structure. The major disadvantage of the cloverleaf created by the weaving maneuver generated and very short weaving length was solved by introducing a collector-distributer (CD) road.
DRAINAGE
One of the most important considerations in roadway design is ensuring proper drainage of surface runoff from the roadway. Improper drainage poses significant safety A semi direct interchange with weaving hazards for all users of a roadway and The Ring Road cross section consists is proposed for Al-Mousel interchange can have a negative impact on the road of four-lanes with 3.65m lane width, where the turning movement to Mousel lifespan. 20.0m median width, 1.8m left is predominate . LANDSCAPING The landscape component of the project is designed using local motifs & distinctive geometric patterning to establish a modern texture especially to: • Provide environmentally friendly with pleasant visual character for the area, using local low maintenance, low water consumption plants. • Provide noise mitigation • Provide Cultural expression. • Provide greenbelt area to serve as a community separator. The landscape design respects the original geo-morphology of the site avoiding any contamination with foreign elements. The landscape design of Interchanges is given fundamental importance, it is very important to generate a unique character for each interchange as: Interchanges have a high level of visual interest because of the structures and landforms involved. Interchanges mark entrances to adjacent communities & therefore strongly influence first impressions of that community. Traffic is slower in the entrance and exit ramps of the interchange; therefore architectural detail is more visible &more aesthetically important.

Concept Design
To create a new cultural city within Sulaymaniyah is bold and courageous vision. Cities are complex organisms which normally evolve gradually over hundreds of years. Achieving this challenge successfully at Sulaymaniyah will require a combination of many skills along with dedication, determination and experience. The Cultural Centre lies at the outskirt of Sulaymaniyah. It will be one of the most important urban complex within Sulaymaniyah and needs to evolve from Kurdish heritage, providing state of the art facilities and an inspirational home for a wide range of cultural activities. The functions which will be housed are fundamental to a great city and to civilized society. Each of these will be accommodated in a suitably expressive and functional structure.
Since ancient times kurdish’s influence has spread far and wide through its trade, cultural and scientific endeavors. The country’s rich cultural heritage have been the envy of the world and as such has had influence far beyond its region, recognizing this heritage and it’s pivotal role in empowering the individual and through them the wider society. It is these individuals, and especially the youth of the country, that the Ministry of Interior in Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) wish to develop, educate and entertain in order to pass on an understanding of civil heritage and enhance the idea of a wider nation which nurtures all its people. The Cultural City has the unique opportunity to form a spiritual and physical heart within the new city, a heart that is founded on the promotion of culture, arts and literature as one of the most important elements of welfare and development of a healthy society.

The maximum spillway discharge for this proposed dam is 157.5m3/s, with a total height of 34 m at its highest level and 10 m width for the crest. The down- stream side is of slope 1: 2.75, while the up-stream side of dam is of slope 1: 3.0 protected with concrete blocks. CC Group provides the following services for Shewah Soor & Halsho Earth Dam during the year 2010: Halsho Earth Dam The proposed earth dam is to be located in the Halsho Valley, Sulaimainya Governorate in Iraq; to provide the nearby villages with water mainly for irrigation and also for population and livestock purposes. The dam receives rainfall from a catchment area of approximately 54.23 km2 with a total live capacity equals to 613,168 m3 and a dead capacity of 28,498 m3 over a useful life of 200 years. The maximum spillway discharge for this proposed dam is 286.6m3/s.

The original dam design was made by KAR-Group as an Earth Fill Dam of a height 15m and reservoir of 0.337 MCM, after the design check by CC Group, it came out that there will be more than 5 MCM additional capacity that will not be fit in the original design, therefore the design altered the site and dam type to meet the anticipated capacity, in addition to the redesign; CC Group conducted a periodic site visits by Dr. Adnan AL Salihi to resolve all technical problems.
Recently CC Group provided design services for eleven ponds in Balkh, Tavan, Topawa, Syamewa, Gopita, Dolirasu, Goshan, Azmra Bchkola, Qulagisckan, Qazan and Lower Pirss at Sulaymanieh District by offering the following specific services: 1. Provide survey works for eight sites. 2. Provide geological studies for nine sites. 3. Provide geotechnical investigations for all sites 4. Provide detailed hydrological studies for nine catchment areas. 5. Provide detailed hydraulic design works, spillway and outlet system for each dam (ponds). 6.
