Off to work ... with a studio photographer

Lloyd Andrews teams up with Santa for photos By Bill Edwards bedwards@annistonstar.com

From Santa to Solutia, Lloyd Andrews’ business is preserving different images, and he likes it that way. “It’s a real varied business — just a little bit of everything,” said the 58-year-old studio photographer, owner of Studio One Photography, Inc. This, of course, is the time of year Andrews links back up with his reliable Santa Claus helper, Bill Veazey, for photo sessions designed to bring out the Christmas light in tiny tots’ eyes. “You want to create images that evoke emotion,” Andrews said. The emotion-evoking setting this year was the kitchen of the long-gone Anniston Inn. Located on West 15th Street, the structure’s 19th-century stylings make it “look like a place where Santa lives,” according to one customer’s account, Andrews said. “The day that Santa’s here is a lot of fun,” he Please see work ❙ Page 3

Bankruptcies A Chapter 7 bankruptcy allows the debtor to retain certain exempt property, but the debtor’s remaining property is gathered and sold by a trustee from which creditors will receive payment. It may also be used by businesses which wish to terminate their business. A Chapter 13 bankruptcy enables debtors, through court supervision and protection, to propose and carry out a repayment plan under which creditors are paid, in full or in part, in installments over a three-year period. During that time, debtors are prohibited from starting or continuing collection efforts. The following bankruptcies declared by Calhoun County residents were recorded by U.S. Bankruptcy Court Northern District of Alabama last week:

work Continued from Page 1 he added, explaining that prepaid, pre-scheduled sessions keep the focus on the children and their happiness. “We’re not the cheapest in town, but you get personal service — and he [Veazey] is a great Santa.” Andrews has been practicing his craft professionally for 24 years — and as an amateur for many years before that, while he was an employee at Monsanto. It was a hobby he picked up from his father. “I was a real avid amateur photographer,” said the 1970 graduate of Oxford High School. Andrews made the jump into professional ranks when he bought the studio business and equipment of Martin and Dorothy Vaughn. He remained at the couple’s 17th Street location for a while, then for 11 years was established in the Everett Plaza shopping strip across from the Downtowner. His Christine Avenue location has served him four years — in an era when images emerge from pixels, not chemicals. “We started paring down when digital [technology] hit,” he said. His studio space includes several styles of backdrops and props on which the subject can stand, sit or lean. There is no darkroom. Because photography is about image, and so is salesmanship, Andrews is doing more work for businesses than he used to. This includes not just photography but assembling the publication, e.g., sales brochure, in which the images are printed. “Business is moving more and more to graphic layout and design and less studio photography,
