Baccalaureate services were May 13 at New Hope Baptist Church. Sgt. Richard Agnew was the speaker. Valedictorian is Andrew Cagle. He is the son of Dorn and Pam Cagle of Pell City. Cagle was the top math student, a member of the English Honors Society, cagle Spanish Honors Society, president of the Beta Club and the Spanish Club, SGA Senator, and he played basketball (shooting guard, team captain, All-Area), and baseball (short-stop, second round of the playoffs). He plans to attend Auburn University and major in aerospace engineering. He received the Spirit of Auburn Founders Scholarship, the Achievement Scholarship and the VFW Essay Scholarship. Salutatorian is Bridget Benson. She is the daughter of Greg Benson of Pell City and Patsy Benson of Buford, Ga., and the granddaughter of Barbara Benson of Pell City and benson Harold and Emily Dearborn of Silver Hill.

Laura Strickland is the daughter of Matt and Holli Strickland of Munford and the granddaughter of John and Sue Adcock of Anniston and Bob and Sue Strickland of Munford. Strickland received the Highest Average in English (two times), Highest Average in Humanities, was chosen Miss MHS, was a member of the marching and concert bands, Senior Beta Club, Key Club, Tri-M, and “Lion’s Roar” yearbook staff. She was the drum major, flute section leader, and first chair flute in the band. She plans to attend Jacksonville State University on an Academic Scholarship and an AOD Federal Credit Union Scholarship and major in English Education, teach middle school for a number of years and then pursue a doctorate in English and teach at a collegiate level at the University of Alabama. sand rock School No. of graduates: 66 Valedictorian: Megan Battles Salutatorian: Carrie Robertson Historian: Matthew A. Cole Sand Rock School will have commencement exercises for 66 seniors at 7 p.m. Thursday in the gymnasium. Baccalaureate services will be at 5 p.m. today in the gymnasium and will be hosted by Sand Rock Methodist Church. Valedictorian is Megan Battles. She is the daughter of Phil and Angla Battles and the granddaughter of James and Linda Dorsett and Virgil and Betty Adcock. Battles will graduate with an advance battles academic diploma with a 4.418 grade point average. She was a member of the Beta Club, FCCLA, Math and Science Club, and the Science Olympia Team. She played volleyball and runs track. Last year, she earned third place in pole vaulting at the state meet and was also able to compete in two other events at state. She has been very successful in volleyball, making it to the final four for three years in a row. She has received the Woodmen of the World History Award and the Academic Excellence Award. She and a teammate received second place in an event at the Regional Science Olympiad competition in Tuscaloosa. She plans to attend Jacksonville State University. Salutatorian is Carrie Robertson.
