YOUNG PROFESSIONAL AWARD
OUTSTANDING

An aspiring history teacher, J’ana McCaleb entered the workforce post-college and realized that project management was really where her professional skills and enjoyment centered. After stumbling into event management while living in the Metro DC area, she has spent her career striving to make the events under her purview exceed expectations, for attendees and staff alike. Working on large scale city-wide conferences for much of her career, she enjoyed the challenge of balancing thousands of attendees, hundreds of sessions, and dozens of planning committee members each year. Contracting with convention centers, liaising with venues and vendors, guiding volunteers, and marshalling details big and small - from speaker proposals and database management to program and program book development, space management and sponsor benefits - she has enjoyed putting the puzzles together while exploring cities throughout the country. With the move back to New England, she found her way to The Construction Institute. Using the skills honed over two decades, she has elevated the quality of the program experience, and embraced the opportunity to expand her skill set, learning graphic design, website creation and management, video editing, and marketing. Asked the most important lesson learned during her career: work with good people and work will not seem like work.
