Unless otherwise noted...Workshops are held in the Construction Institute classroom at 260 Girard Avenue, Hartford, CT, on the University of Hartford’s Asylum Avenue Campus.

Cancellations / Refunds / Substitutions

Cancellations must be made 48 hours prior to workshop or webinar for a refund. If amount is outstanding, the entire amount will still be due the Construction Institute. Substitutions may be made before the start date of any workshop. Workshops may be rescheduled due to instructor conflict or severe weather. We reserve the right to cancel due to insufficient enrollment, in which case workshop fees will be refunded in full. Thank you for your consideration.

HARTFORD WORKSHOPS CT OE-2 Operating Engineers License Review & Exam Preparation

Wednesdays - September 14, 28, October 5, 12, 19, 26, November 9, 2016 7 Sessions - 9AM - 1PM Cost: Members $535 - Non-Member $595 Designed for individuals planning to test for the State of Connecticut Operating Stationary Engineer- OE-2 certification.

Learning Objectives •

Fundamentals review in operations of boilers, chillers and associated peripheral equipment, including pumps, motors, controls, sensing and monitoring equipment. Understanding the nature of the OE-2 exam and an efficient approach to preparing to take it: including daily assessments, practical exam questions, proven successful study guidance, personal mentoring or assistance in specific areas of challenge. Detailed review of Boiler concepts, equipment and systems, (first 4 of 7 classes): including combustion systems, fuels, combustion controls and safety, boiler trim, pressure parts, federal and state regulations, steam and condensate systems, water treatment systems, steam turbines, heat exchangers, valve and aperture requirements. Detailed review of refrigeration and chiller concepts and equipment: including thermodynamic fundamentals, definitions, refrigeration cycle and conventional controls, large utility chiller systems, absorption systems and concepts, refrigeration safety. Fundamental review of electrical principals and common practical electric equipment: including generators, motors, transformers, basic circuits and power analysis as well as safety and common conventions associated with plant equipment.

Participants will receive a copy of the Boiler Operator's Exam Preparation Guide textbook and a study guide binder containing hundreds of practice questions and daily assessments in multiple subject areas throughout the course.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Construction Institute at the University of Hartford are offering a 2-day course for practicing engineers on the design and rating of steel railroad bridges. Workshop participants should have a background in structural engineering, but not specifically in the field of railroad bridges.

To cover the basics of the different types of railroad decks. To cover the current AREMA code requirements regarding steel bridges. Go through a detailed step-by-step design of a railroad bridge, as well as the rating of an existing bridge. Although concentration will be on steel bridges, discussion of concrete and wood structures will also be included.

The course will include photos of bridges and bridge components to illustrate the lecture material. Participants will receive copies of portions of the AREMA specifications sections relating to bridge design and rating, as well as other handout material.
