Participants will receive a copy of the Boiler Operator's Exam Preparation Guide textbook and a study guide binder containing hundreds of practice questions and daily assessments in multiple subject areas throughout the course.

This 4-hour workshop provides an overview of why conflict feels stressful, how we can overcome the stress, and the importance of negotiation and conflict resolution skills in our personal and professional lives. Becoming a Problem Solver Dealing with conflict as a normal part of business

Railroad Bridge Engineering

This 4-hour workshop is a companion to the Negotiation and Conflict Resolution Skills You Can Use workshop (pg. 9), and focuses on the problem solving skills needed to cope with unexpected problems and conflicts that arise during the course of doing business, including over the course of a construction project. Participants will be given a problem solving toolkit and role playing exercises which will then be discussed.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Construction Institute at the University of Hartford are offering a 2-day course for practicing engineers on the design and rating of steel railroad bridges. Workshop participants should have a background in structural engineering, but not specifically in the field of railroad bridges.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a collection of voluntary rating systems that assist project team members with the identification, implementation and measurement of green building and neighborhood design, construction, operations and maintenance. Using these marketdriven tools that encourage green building practices, project teams can design and build high performance, healthier and environmentally responsible projects. This workshop will provide an introduction to green buildings and includes an overview of the U.S. Green Building Council and LEED rating systems. Participants will gain an introductory understanding of sustainability basics, LEED principles, and other key components of sustainable building practices. Project Management Certificate Requirement

Meeting the varied scheduling needs of those involved in a construction project may be the most difficult challenge we will face as we create and manage a project schedule. The project schedule must be presented in a format that clearly communicates the project goals to multiple entities. This workshop leads participants through a hands-on application based learning exercise using an example project that reflects the challenges we face when scheduling a project.

Every project participant makes decisions that have potential legal ramifications and resultant additional costs. This workshop, with an attorney and claims consultant as instructors, will show participants how early knowledge of potential problems is the price of success.

Discuss the scheduler and the tools used to create an effective schedule. Discuss contractual issues to be considered when developing and managing a project schedule. Become aware of common schedule manipulation tricks and ploys. Use the schedule as a management tool to be proactive in avoiding potential delays and react to changes. Learn to identify delays, accelerate a schedule and create a recovery.

Review of potential legal issues which may result from missteps. Review case law examples, which will serve as foundation for explanation of a variety of construction related issues. Discuss the importance of considering legal hurdles before making decisions, issuing RFI's, making promises or demanding compliance. Raise the level of knowledge of all attendees to enable their subsequent identification of legal problems before the damage is done.
