FACES OF KIRBY-SMITH MACHINERY
Product Support Specialist Roddy Conner enjoys helping customers resolve issues
Service on heavy equipment as a career seemed a natural fit for Roddy Conner.
“I grew up working on cars, tractors and trucks,” said Conner, Product Support Specialist – Waste, Kirby-Smith Machinery Inc. (KSM). “My dad was a truck driver, and we had a farm. I knew that’s what I wanted to do, so right out of high school I went to a technical school and into a heavy equipment program.”
Conner began his career with KSM about 13 years ago after KSM acquired the former Komatsu distributor in North Texas. He had worked for that distributor for about five years prior to the acquisition. Between the two, he spent about 11 years as a field technician. Then, he was a product support sales representative (PSSR) for KSM for almost six years and has been in his current position for about a year.
“I specialize in the waste industry, which can be especially tough on machinery, especially dozer undercarriages,” said Conner. “I take care of our landfill and waste disposal customers.”
All about the customer
Conner works closely with customers to ensure they are properly inspecting and maintaining their machines’ undercarriages, including keeping them clean and properly tensioned.
“My job is just to guide customers and make sure that everything is being done, and they’re getting the most out of their equipment,” explained Conner. “I take satisfaction with taking care of customers and resolving any issues that may come up right away. I just make sure I’m there when the phone rings. Beyond that, I’m here to help with their more routine needs such as replacement parts like ground-engaging tools. I also work with them on specialty items specific to the waste industry.”
Conner covers KSM’s entire Komatsu-related footprint, which includes North Texas, West Texas and Oklahoma, however, he is knowledgeable about other pieces of equipment as well.
“I specialize in my customers, not necessarily one particular piece of equipment, so I can support them whether it’s with Komatsu, a Broce Broom or anything else,” Conner emphasized. “I’ve been in the industry a long time, so I know a lot of tips and tricks with just about everything.”
Conner and his wife have two young children, and they enjoy spending time together as a family. He also likes to hunt and fish. ■
