94th Annual Highlandlake/ Mead Pioneer Day A

s part of our 94th Annual Highlandlake/ Mead Pioneer Day (June 14, 2015) we are having a silent auction. Several items have been donated so far. I'm including photos of two of them here. The main feature this year is a farm show where you can come and see old tractors and other machinery, ask questions, and learn about some of our proud history. This d e l u x e g ard en in g tool set is to die for. Want it? This is only one of several items being offered at our 1st a n n u a l s i l e n t auction. Pioneer Day (formally known as the Highlandlake/Mead Community Gathering) is our our major fundraiser for the year. We have more needs than usual this year, since the church building is in need of painting

We are also having hayride tours of the Highlandlake Community and Pioneer Cemetery. Hands on demonstrations, where you can learn how to churn butter, grind wheat, and shell corn the old-fashioned way, are just a few of the activities. Never fear, our famous potluck lunch at noon is still on the agenda. We will never give that up! All events start at the Historic Highlandlake Church building. This is a come, eat, enjoy, and stay as long as you like. Now, one more thing. We are holding a little contest. Not sure what the prize is yet, but I'm sure that I will be able to come up with something good. As most of you know, I wrote a book on the history of Highlandlake and Mead, published by Arcadia Publishing. In the book, there is one small typo that changed a sentence into one huge mistake. Get your hands on my book and see if you can find it, then email me your answer, along with the page number to: pauli@ historichighlandlake.org. All correct answers will be entered in a drawing. We will draw a name out of the hat during the potluck (12 noon) on Pioneer Day. You will not need to be present, but if you aren't, you are sure going to miss out on some good eatin'.

A LETTER FROM MAYOR GARY SHIELDS Mead Schools Expansion & Tractor Supply Store Coming Dear Residents, As the trail along 3rd Street is completed and the benches, planters and trash receptacles have been installed along Main Street, it is good to see that the improvements being made are already being used and have added to the charm of the town. Unfortunately, the timing didn’t work out to continue the trail south immediately but this project will resume in the coming months. At the March 30th board meeting, SVVSD Superintendent Don Haddad visited and provided insight into the renovation and expansion plans for the Mead schools that will

Downtown Mead Farmers' Market June 7th, 2015- August 30th, 2015

VISION STATEMENT:

Every Sunday, 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. We are very excited to be creating a new farmers market in downtown Mead. We together can stimulate the local economy; create awareness of local growers and strive to provide foundational support for local artisans, small businesses, entrepreneurs, and the surrounding community.

Our vision is to provide a cooperative and organized marketing alternative for agricultural and specialty products. We promote local production of agricultural and specialty products and offer opportunities for producers to enhance their marketing skills. We strive to improve the variety, taste and freshness of products available to customers in our area. We promote strong, trusting relationships between consumers and vendors by insisting on honesty and transparency in all aspects of the creation of products. We create a space for interaction between the consumer and the producer. We believe that there are inherent benefits for the customer, producer, and community when food is grown, purchased and consumed locally. We enhance the quality of life in our area by providing a community activity that promotes a wholesome, social gathering place.

MISSION STATEMENT:

Our mission is to provide a community gathering place where local farmers, artisans and entrepreneurs can sell directly to the consumer. Our goals are to improve opportunities for all in our community by promoting local economic development as well as social and community building through educational and family-friendly activities.
