While daily and weekly newspapers are dying across the country, niche community newspapers are not only surviving, but thriving. 1999-2020

W

hat a year 2019 was…it went faster than any other year in my life! Fraught with back pain, too little time for responsibilities, fear of what the future holds, and most up front, supporting my dad in his first year of widowhood. What does 2020 hold in store for you, for me and our families? To say 2019 was a stressful year would be an understatement for sure. I find that interesting because it was the first year in many years, that my husband and I did not take regular vacations because of his new employment with FedEx Freight. For so many years I thought if we did not take so many trips, I would be more relaxed. LOL with emoji grimacing. The only trip he and I planned, I had to bow out because I was bedridden with back pain. You might recall my article in the February 2019 issue stating that I was taking my power back and forging forward with my call to write professionally. Then in my November 2019 article, I shared that for the better part of 2019, I was still living in fear and that fear had settled itself in my low back. I’d never had chronic pain or illness before, and it was debilitating. I certainly learned a new empathy for those who live with chronic “anything.” My mom, daughter, and my sister, Robin, have had chronic issues for years and years. I really had no idea what that was like until 2019. (view articles at www.yourhomepagenews.com)

I’m thankful to report that the LORD and www.TeamworkColorado.com have me mobile again. While I am weak, I can move most anyway I need to with just a little pain. I thank you for praying for me. Add to that, I have been working diligently on my writing. I’ve submitted a book proposal that has made it past the gatekeeper and through one editorial board meeting. The

#ThereIsNoFearInLove next step is the Pub Board on January 23. More prayers, please? And thank you! I’d like to share a bit more about my fear issues. I’m sure I’m not the only who has them. In 1990, I was in college and a single mom with four kids. We were poor but life was incredibly good. In fact, I was in the best two years of my entire life. Until August 1990 when my nine-year-old daughter died. I felt like the rug was pulled out from under me. Fast forward to 2002…once again, I was just finishing a very good year in my life after ten of the worst years of my life. I had finally achieved having a book published. My book, on adoption, was released the last week of March 2002. Two weeks later, my twenty-three-year-old son was killed in a work-related accident. Those two incidents caused me to believe that anything good that happened to or for me would be followed by the death of someone I love. So, for the last seventeen years, I’ve not pursued my passion to write professionally. I didn’t want someone else to die. I know this makes sense realistically. But internally, I had a huge spiritual struggle. If I believe what the Bible says, and I do…I tell you all every month what I believe in my articles…well, why would I live in that fear? Reality shows one thing and Spirituality proves another. I had been letting earthly experiences have more power over me than the Father God I know and trust. I had put God in a box and stifled what He wants to do for and with me. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who does that. In October, I made the choice to stand on the Word. The Word says that each of us has a designated day we are born and one that we die. My writing has nothing to do with anyone’s death. I

know that in my head and I’m learning to believe it in my heart. My mantra for 2020 is there is no fear in love. I’ve learned how much Father God loves me. I’ve also learned that no matter what happens, good or tragic, the LORD will walk through it with me. I am never alone. In fact, it was brought to my attention that I was known and loved by the KING of kings before the universe was ever formed and that goes for you too. I have no idea how 2020 will end up. I do know this…#thereisnofearinlove…I will write professionally, come what may. What will you pursue in 2020? I would like you to share that with me either via email carbonvalley@ gmail.com or post at www.facebook. com/CarbonValleyConsumerReport or IG @cvcr1999. I will pray for you and encourage you and celebrate the accomplishments with you. Happy New Year…May 2020 be your most satisfying year yet.

River Cruising is so Popular!

R

iver cruising is hot. There's a river cruise for every taste, style and budget. With nearly a dozen new river boats being built, it's no doubt that river cruising is the latest trend. Statistics indicate that most river cruise passengers have already taken an ocean cruise and they are ready to move inland, who want to see European cities up-close and personal. What are the advantages of a European river cruise? While cruise ships only touch the edges of continents, river boats take you to the very heart of magnificent cities and ancient towns. Quietly glide past hillside vineyards, medieval castles and historic monuments. Disembark and walk right into town for a lunch at a local café or experience that local beer or wine. Pack light. Not just for the airline requirements but for convenience. There are no formal nights. Men need only a collared shirt and sport coat. Women can leave their long dresses and high heels at home. Attire is country club casual even at dinner. Acknowledge your physical limitations.

Cobblestone streets, walkways and stairs can be a bit tricky to navigate. Europe doesn't subscribe to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Pace yourself accordingly. Some of the river boats do not have elevators, so make sure the boat you choose has one if you need one. Alternatively, once ashore, many river cruises lines offer an easy-paced walking or bus tour option. Wine and dine. Unlike cruise ships, river boats have "open seating." Stroll into the dining room for a leisurely buffet breakfast and some made to order specialties. Lunch is fairly relaxed, too, as it is mainly buffet-style dining. Dinner times can vary based on the timing of the shore excursions, so check your daily planner. Some cruise lines offer wine and beer with lunch and dinner. Cash is king. Make a list of the countries you will visit and find a local bank that will order your foreign currency. Mainly, you'll need Euros. Of course, the boat's front desk will also exchange currency, but there are some limitations. Tipping at the end of your cruise is expected to be in Euros. Weather. If you travel on the rivers in the spring or fall, there will certainly be a variance in temperatures and precipitation. Bring that light rain gear and a folding umbrella. If you must carry belongings, a tote bag is suggested. Stop

Financial Moves for Life’s ‘Inflection Points’

Y

ou’ve probably heard or read about inflection points. The term has a specific definition in mathematics, but it’s also used widely to describe historical or technological events, such as the Industrial Revolution or the creation of the internet – events that changed human existence in some important way. However, you have personal inflection points, too – and when they occur, you’ll need to make the right financial moves. Here are four of the most important of these inflection points, along with suggestions on dealing with them: • • Marriage – When you get married, you and your spouse will need to discuss a variety of financial issues: What assets and liabilities do you each bring to the marriage? Should you combine your finances or continue with separate accounts? Is one of you a “saver” while the other is a “spender”? Do you share similar investment philosophies, or is one of you much more aggressive than the other? You don’t necessarily have to agree on everything, but you should at least try to gain enough knowledge so you can avoid unpleasant surprises, such as hidden debts, and find enough common ground so your household can advance toward your common financial goals.

Jen Kayton

• New child – When you welcome a new child into your family, you’ll need to make sure you have adequate life insurance. You’ll also want to review the beneficiary designations on any existing insurance policies, as well as on your IRA and 401(k). And if you can afford it, you may want to start contributing to a college fund, possibly using a 529 savings plan, which can provide you with tax advantages as you put money away for your child’s higher education. • Divorce – It’s unfortunate, but true: Divorce is still pretty common, and it’s neither pleasant nor cheap. You might not be able to avoid some of the costs, such as lawyers’ bills, but if you and your ex-spouse can work together amicably, you both may be able to avoid serious financial disruptions. You’ll need to work out how to divide your financial assets, paying attention to beneficiary designations, which you may well need to change. Also, as a newly single individual, you may need to review and revise your long-term investment strategy to accommodate changes in your goals and your retirement income. • Retirement – By the time you retire, you will have hopefully been investing in your IRA and 401(k) or other retirement plan for several decades. But once you do retire, you’ll need to determine how much you can afford to withdraw each year from your various retirement accounts. Your withdrawal rate will depend on your

or stay late. Investigate your options and try to include a few extra days on land to fully appreciate the cities along the paths of the great rivers of Europe. Look for our announcement on the River Cruise we are planning for next fall on the Danube.

age, your asset level and your retirement lifestyle. And you’ll also want to consider other issues: Are you prepared to deal with health care costs? Even with Medicare, these costs may be higher than they were when you were working. And how about your estate plans? Are they up to date? Have you protected your family from the possibility of your estate going through the time-consuming, expensive and public process of probate? You may need to work with your financial, tax and legal advisors to develop an effective estate strategy. By making smart decisions following your own inflection points, you can ease the transitions in your life – wherever life takes you.

Area Mayors’ Report—For those of us who do not attend meetings DACONO MAYOR, JOE BAKER

 Thank to all who came out to celebrate the season with us at the Carbon Valley Holiday Festival. We had a great turnout and a great time, and thank you also

MEAD MAYOR, COLLEEN WHITLOW

 Welcome, 2020! I am looking forward to a prosperous year working with the Board of Trustees, staff and residents to continue making Mead a safe and wonderful place to live.  Projects in Town – This upcoming year will be full of excitement for us. The entire board is proud of what we accomplished in 2019 such as: the North Creek Sewer Project, Veteran Pond Toe Drain Project, 2018 Transportation Plan, 2019 Stormwater Master Plan, Highland Lake Park Master Plan, 2018 International Building Code as well as streamlining the Development Process; approving numerous annexations – residential and commercial developments – partnering with High Plains Library District to plan a library/community center, and expanding the Mead Police Department.  Board – At the last meeting in November, the Board of

to our sponsor United Power and to Kenneth Homyak PK-8 School and its students for their participation in the event.  The City of Dacono is providing free Christmas tree recycling from December 26-January 5. Bring your tree to the drop-off site near Centennial Field under the blue water tower. It is important for the safety of the crews and machinery that all ornaments, lights, tinsel, nails, wire, garlands and stands be removed.  Please join me for Coffee with the Mayor on Saturday, February 15th at 9:00 a.m. at Dacono City Hall. Bring your questions or just introduce yourself. Coffee and donuts will be provided.

Trustees approved an initial road inventory and condition assessment to complete a network analysis and establish a Pavement Condition Index for each street, prepare cost estimates to repair and maintain the street network and identify long-term budget needs, and establish a 5-year maintenance and rehabilitation plan for approximately 50 centerline miles of paved roads. At that same meeting, the Board also approved completing sanitary sewer repair and manhole rehabilitation in the Dillingham and Welker alley and the 2020 agreement with the Mead Area Chamber of Commerce.  December was busy for the Mead Urban Renewal Authority (MURA) and the Board of Trustees. MURA approved its 2020 budget and the agreement with Mead Place Metropolitan Districts Nos. 1-6. The Board of Trustees annexed and amended the zoning for the Meadow Ridge subdivision and Mead Ponds. The 2019 budget amendment and the 2020 budget were also approved.  If you are unable to attend the Board of Trustees meetings, the meetings are video recorded to watch at your convenience. View meetings at www.townofmead.org/boardoftrustees.  Community – Activities ● Christmas in the Park was held Saturday, Dec. 7 and was packed full of fun for all ages. The town partnered with the Mead Area Chamber of Commerce, Grandview Church, and the High Plains Library District for the Parade

of Lights, kid crafts, tree lighting, carolers, a free chili dinner and, of course, Santa.  Reminder – The Town of Mead requires businesses located within the town, as well as businesses providing services within the town, to obtain a business license. Businesses must renew licenses annually. Applications are available online at www.townofmead.org/ planning/page/business-licenses. Additionally, all residents are required to license their pets. Pet license applications are available online at https://www.townofmead.org/sites/default/files/fileattachments/code_ enforcement/page/141/mead_pet_license_form.pdf. Please return the completed form to the Mead Police Department.  Invitation – I would like to continue to invite youth groups to help open our regular Board of Trustee meetings. Please email me, at cwhitlow@townofmead.org, at least a week in advance of our board meetings.  Stay Informed – I am hosting Coffee with the Mayor from 8-10 a.m. every first Saturday of the month at Town Hall. Bring your questions, concerns and thoughts. Another easy way to stay up to date on Mead news is to sign up for email notifications by visiting: www.townofmead.org/newsletter/subscriptions.  Please stay safe, and as always, I am happy to come visit you or your organization. Top Painting Tips Choose Quality Over Cost

ou get what you pay for when buying paint, so be sure your painter is using a quality product. The cost of the paint is a small portion of the job, but the costs of frequent repainting will cancel any savings earned by using the cheap stuff. Opting for quality when choosing your painter will pay off as well. Professional painters paint 50-plus homes yearly. They know how to paint the right way and will produce a lasting job in half the time it would take a less experienced crew.

Before you commit to color it's important to see how it looks in different lighting. Paint swatches onto poster board and move them around the room throughout the day, observing how they look in different areas, how they pair with furniture and upholstery and particularly next to flooring and trim.

Consumer Report for Carbon Valley, Erie & Mead—Local News & Business Info for Residents

Make 2020 an Eventful Year Facebook is a great tool for event promotion. List your business’ events for free and invite your page followers and friends to attend. People in your geographic area or those who have shared interests will see the event organically. Nothing builds relationship like meeting Face to Face! However, you can expand your reach to advertise your event with budgets starting as low as $5. Since you can choose your audience’s interests, demographics and location — even down to a targeted ZIP code — Facebook offers the unique power to reach more people locally and less expensively than pretty much any other advertising. So go ahead. Schedule an Open House or a ribbon cutting with your local Chamber of Commerce. Offer a Tasting Event or invite people to attend an event where you’re

speaking. It won’t just show up on your page, but also on Events, where anyone can search. Offer a class at your local library where you can teach on your subject of expertise. support. Prior to Halloween, we held a ribbon-cutting event to show off our new pantry. Supporters and local community members toured the help center and stayed around for conversation and some tasty snacks. For Thanksgiving, CVHC teams up with the Town of Frederick, Weld Food Bank, Rocky Mountain Christian Church, and Frederick High School to distribute Thanksgiving in a Box meals to local clients. Weld Food Bank provides 100 turkeys and non-perishable fixings to go with the turkeys. The other organizations provide perishables and people to help in the distribution of this much-loved traditional meal. Christmas Blessings is another program for CVHC clients. Client families with children signed up at the help center to request gifts which are provided by a large network of participants from local churches and other organizations. It’s the best of both worlds: some people get the opportunity to shop, experiencing the joy of giving while other families experiencing household instability have the opportunity to provide gifts to their children. It was a fun day for all 51 families and the volunteers involved. Carbon Valley Help Center is located at 150 Buchanan in Firestone. Body + Soul Wellbeing

Food for the Soul: Did you Give everything you wanted to for Christmas?

G

iving is a wonderful act of grace, and in actual fact, one way grace may be defined is‌a gift. While we may have moved on from the holidays in general and Christmas in particular, I would like to draw your attention to this question: Why do we give? When you think about it, the reason why we give is because God gives. A similar idea about love is found in scripture, “We love because he first loved usâ€? (1 John 4:19). The theme and message of the entire gospel is giving. God gives because he loves mankind, and chooses to give‌He desires to. God gave us life, peace, forgiveness, joy, hope, salvation, and on and on in the gift of His Son, Jesus. When we give out of love and because we choose and desire to give, then we are giving as God gives. When we give in this way, we are engaging in blessing, we bless others and enrich our

own souls as well. Did Jesus know what He was talking about when he said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35)? If you are a giver, than you have experienced the truth of these words. Sometimes we may give for the wrong reasons or when we really don’t want to in the first place. For example, we may give for cultural reasons such as birthdays, house-warming, or when we bring a gift for the host of a party. We may give when we are manipulated by guilt, or when we manipulate or flatter others in order to receive something in return. Another reason we may give is simply because it’s required or expected. I trust you will see that our giving is best and accomplishes the most good when we give like God gives—simply because we love people and choose to bless them from our hearts. I’m positive you and I didn’t give

everything we wanted to for Christmas. The good news is that we have a whole new year before us in which to give. I’d like to offer two keys that will help to unlock our giving in the New Year and beyond. The first key to giving is gratitude. Living life while being thankful for what we have and what we enjoy is so important if we wish to be a generous giver. If we are not thankful for what we have, we imprison our lives in dissatisfaction. If we will remember all the ways God has given to us—from the Creation to the Cross— then giving to others will seem a special act that we get to participate in. The second key to giving is perspective. We are all stewards over what we have. This means that nothing actually belongs to us, but that God has placed us over, and expects us to manage, the things we have. We are in possession of

Welcome New Year 2020 By Betty Heath

“Do

n’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. (Isaiah 41:10) NLT WELCOME NEW YEAR, 2020! It is what it is, but it can be whatever you make of it. For many a new year presents a chance for new beginnings. New Year’s resolutions represent good intentions. What you make of those resolutions will determine what kind of a new year you make for yourself. Trusting God to show us the way should be our first resolution of the New Year. A few years ago, I was taking acrylic painting classes. I soon realized I would never become another Van Gogh or Renoir, so I decided to take the new knowledge I gained and paint for the sheer enjoyment of splashing colors on the canvas and feeling like a kid again. Before beginning our first-class session, the instructor brought out a large metal bowl with a striker and asked us to sit in a circle. As she began striking the edge of the bowl the room resonated with the most soothing, reverberating sounds I’ve ever heard. An air of calmness surrounded us and when the sounds stopped, we were ready to focus on our painting projects. The new year of 1937 began in the midst of a turbulent world. The country was struggling to dig out of a recession.

The average cost of a new house was $4,100, but to rent a house was only $26 per month. A gallon of gas cost 10 cents; a loaf of bread cost 9 cents. A young couple living in mid-America with an eight-year-old son found it difficult to make ends meet. It became even more difficult when they also found out they were expecting an addition to their family. The father had only an eighth grade education, but he was by no means stupid. He grew up as one in a family of thirteen children. After the eighth grade he was out working in the cotton fields to help his parents make ends meet. He became self-educated and excelled in English and math. He did whatever was necessary to feed, clothe and house his family. These were my parents, and this was the world I was born into in November, 1937. If ever there was a time a young couple needed a singing bowl; it was certainly during these turbulent times. Their faith in God and leaning on each other helped them make it through to a brighter future. Today we are given a clean slate, a new beginning. Don’t be discouraged by all the chaos that may be going on in your life. God promises to strengthen you and help you. It is up to each of us to paint our new year with our hopes and dreams; then ask God to help us choose the right colors to make those dreams a reality. Perhaps it would also help if we each had a singing bowl with a striker to help us accomplish this task.

our life, time, family, talents, work, money, words‌..how are we using all of these? Are we good stewards, are we faithful with that which God has gifted us? Here’s the point, how could we be so stingy, selfish, and stubborn against giving when we realize that all we have is #1: Not Ours, and #2 Gifted to us from God? Perspective. I hope that each of us will use these keys to be generous and gracious toward all. God Bless. Alternative Health Care: Acupuncture Winter

T

he cold winter months are typically the time of year when we rest and quietly reflect a bit more in order to conserve our energy for the burst of outward energy that comes in the spring time. In essence, it is a time for storage, and building up our reserves. In Chinese medical theory, this time of year places emphasis on the Water element, which corresponds to the Kidney and Urinary Bladder. The Urinary Bladder is considered the storehouse of emotions, and is one of the longest channels in the body, running from the head, down the back and legs to end at the small toes. Tension and held in emotions can cause congestion along this channel, which can lead to stiffness and pain. The Kidneys are perceived as storing the energetic life force; birth, life and death, or the cycle of transformation. The seat of willpower is situated here, generating ambition and the desire to do something with one’s life. Lack of motivation can reflect an imbalance in the Kidney energy. Both functionally and energetically, the Kidneys act as a complex filter to keep our system in perfect balance. Physically, they filter the blood and keep the blood and body clean. For example, the delicate water and acid-base balance in the body is maintained by the Kidney.

To help maintain a healthy Urinary Bladder and Kidney this winter, maintain your exercise routine, do not increase the level of activity (save that for spring and summer!). Quiet activities such as playing cards and board games, meditation, and slow movement activities such as walking, swimming, yoga and tai qi are best in the winter. Eat cooked, easily digested foods such as soups and stews and root vegetables. Avoid over doing carbohydrates and meats as these cause too much internal heat production (inflammation) in the body. Also, keep warm, especially the lower back, belly and neck! “The sages follow the laws of Nature and therefore their bodies are free from strange diseases. They do not lose any of their natural functions and their spirit of life is never exhausted. “ – Inner Classic

Choosing a Real Estate Agent for Buyers

W

hen you are thinking of buying a home, you have 2 basic choices. One way is to drive around or search the Internet, narrow down the choices and then call each individual Realtor to get further information or to see the house. There is a better way, however. Select one agent to work with and let them do the work! A good Realtor can make the process go smoother, alert you to things you don't know about, and save you both time and money. Most people do not buy or sell real estate very often, so they don’t know what they don’t know. A good Realtor can help you get through the negotiations, inspections, title insurance, appraisal, loan process, and to a successful closing. In today’s market, finding the home is just the beginning. Most of a Realtor’s work and value comes in completing the transaction. Most Buyers “don’t know what they don’t know”, so having an experienced, knowledgeable Realtor to guide you through the process is critical. In Colorado, a Broker usually works with Buyers as either a Buyer's Broker or a Transaction Broker. The basic difference is a Buyer's Broker is representing and acting in the best interest of the Buyer and in Transaction Brokerage, the agent is just putting together the deal and not representing either party. In most cases, the Realtor working with the Buyer is being paid by the Seller's broker, so there is not a cost to the Buyer, so take advantage of their service. So, how should you choose a Realtor to help you buy a home? There are several ways. Get references from people you know that have purchased a home - did they like their Realtor? Who is active in the local market where you want to buy? Has there been an office you have worked with in the past? Once you have come up with a few names, you then need to make a selection. It is best to interview a couple of Realtors before you make a decision. Buying a home may well be one of the largest investments of your life, so taking an hour to talk to a couple people is well worth it. In my experience, most problems that occur between a Buyer and an agent happen

due to lack of communication or misunderstanding of each other's expectations. Following are several questions (not in any particular order), to consider asking of the Realtors you interview: Have you sold homes in the area I want? What sources do you have to locate properties? Do you have lenders or inspectors you can recommend? Do you get paid anything for me using any of these references? What length of Buyer Broker contract do you require? If I feel you are not doing your job, can I cancel the contract? Can you give me references of other Buyers that you have recently helped? When are you available to show me homes? How often will you tell me about new properties just on the market? How will you communicate with me? How much experience do you have, or what support do you have if there are questions you can't answer? Is there someone to show me homes if you are out of town? Once you make a decision on your Buyer's Broker, let (and make) them do their job. Don't call another agent to ask questions or to set up a showing of the property, this is your agent's job. If you come across a property that your Realtor did not give you, give him or her the address and have them get you the details you want. Sometimes, a property can be on the Internet or have a for sale sign in front, but the Broker did not tell you about it because it is under contract or because it did not meet your requirements. Buying a home, especially your first one, will be exciting, scary, nerve-racking, frustrating, thrilling, stressful and fulfilling. It will also be one of the best things you do in your life. Work with someone that will help make it successful.

CCI Honors Kirkmeyer with Commissioner of the Year Award

W

ELD COUNTY, CO — During the 2019 Colorado Counties, Inc. (CCI) Dinner and Awards ceremony December 3, Weld County Commissioner Chair Barbara Kirkmeyer was honored with the Commissioner of the Year Award. In a nomination letter sent by fellow commissioners, Commissioner Kirkmeyer was commended for the countless hours she worked with the Child Welfare Allocation Committee to develop an allocation formula that allowed for adequate funding of additional full-time child welfare workers. She also initiated the Families First Preservation Services Act work group, which developed a roadmap for counties and the state to implement changes required by a new federal law and regulations. In addition to human services, Kirkmeyer made a huge impact statewide in 2019 with her determination to fight for local control regarding oil and gas development under Senate Bill 181. She assisted in the drafting and passage of amendments to not only preserve Weld County’s local control but also enhance it. She’s been an integral part of the Statewide Transportation Advisory Committee and has helped increase

dollars for transportation infrastructure. She’s even worked with Executive Director Dean Williams at the Colorado Department of Corrections to implement a program that lowers the likelihood of inmates reoffending. “I am honored to be named the Commissioner of the Year,” said Barbara Kirkmeyer, Weld County Commissioner Chair. “I am extremely passionate about county government. Working on these projects and serving on various committees is helping better my county and other counties in Colorado.” Nominations for the award are submitted from counties across the state. CCI based its final selection on the commissioner’s participation in CCI committees, taskforces or district caucuses as well as the commissioner’s activities in his/her county and outside agencies that go above and beyond the call of duty. This is the fourth award Kirkmeyer has received from CCI. She also received the Commissioner of the Year Award in 1997, the CCI Distinguished Service Award in 2000 and Freshman Commissioner of the Year in 1993. Imagine Charter School at Firestone Milestones

CV Academy Enrolling

s we soar into the fall and winter holiday seasons, we have many celebrations and much cause to be proud of our school and our community and Imagine Charter School at Firestone, Colorado. Our First Annual Fall Festival was a great success. Our IVA(Imagine Volunteer Association) put this great event together. Our teachers and staff helped, giving time to facilitate such amazing events at the Festival to include a Haunted House, a dunk tank with teachers to dunk, a chili cook-off, a bake sale and many other fun activities. Our families donated, volunteered, and came together as a community to celebrate and be part of this event. This was a great opportunity for our clubs and activities in the building to fundraise by hosting different experiences at the Festival. We were also able to work with our community partners who sponsored events and had their own activities or donated toward ours. Each semester, our drama elective puts on a production. Our Fall production was Hotel Transylmania. Students who participate in the elective design props and costumes and rehearse to put on the performance. This was a fun time to see our drama department in action and

Free Public Preschool - Eighth Grade

A

families were invited to “Dinner and a Play” as a fundraiser for this department. Our 5th graders just had to opportunity to experience our economy in action in their Young Ameritowne field trip. They traveled to Denver to work in the Young Ameritowne building, where there is an area transformed into a small community. Students held elected positions and for a few short hours ran all of the businesses on their own. They have been working in their classrooms studying economic concepts such as investments, supply and demand and all of the needs in a community to keep it strong. At Imagine Charter School at Firestone, Colorado, we work to grow the whole child. Through experiences such as Young Ameritowne and Drama, our students are seeing real life application of their studies. In offering community events as well as providing opportunities to meet with community partners in an effort to promote and provide safety, our students are seeing their impact and part in the community. We strive to demonstrate that our school has a part in the larger world, in the same way that our we are growing students toward their greater purposes. We truly are cultivating all of the potential we see in our students.
