The Amazing Lion! – Isaac Crane We Thank God it Wasn't His Time M

M

any of you may know this little man; either from a previous article, a neighbor, your church, or you are a friend. Anyone who knows him, is blessed by meeting him. He is a courageous 20 monthold boy who was diagnosed, at 4 months old, with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). At that time, he was given less than a year to live. SMA is a genetic disorder that prevents a child from walking, moving, eating and breathing. There is currently no cure for this genetic disorder. Isaac’s diagnosis is terminal. Given this diagnosis, Jenna, Isaac’s mom, quit her job to stay at home with him full time. This enables Jenna to share her precious moments with Isaac, who requires 24 hour care. Jeremiah, Isaac’s dad, was already a stay at home dad for

Isaac and their 3 year old daughter Natalie. While it has been a blessing to be with Isaac as much as possible, it has come with financial hardship. The community, their church, friends and family have been a huge support. The family is grateful to everyone who has donated time, money, food and prayer! They have needed all. The family set up a “Go Fund Me” account when Isaac was first diagnosed. Although people have been very generous with their donations, the funds are diminishing and the family is struggling. An anonymous family friend is making a plea to anyone who feels called or is able to help financially to go to GoFundMe. com/agbytg. The family is in need of and appreciative of any size donation.

ountain View Fire Rescue reported that Lead custodian Jeff Pfleiger rescued a third grade Mead Elementary student who was choking in the cafeteria. He learned how to give abdominal thrusts by taking a CPR class. "Great work, Mr. Pfleiger!" says the MVFPD on their Facebook page. For more information about CPR/ First Aid classes, contact education@ mvfpd.org. Classes are free for those who live or work in our Fire District! Submitted via www.facebook.com/ MountainViewFireRescue. Photo from same post but taken during an interview by CBS Jennifer Brice. In a post written by Julie Dowen, Luke's mom, she said, "Sweet Luke had a guardian angel watching over him. I was teaching at school that day and they called me in the classroom and I went to him immediately. He was in shock and shaking from the adrenaline... My parents came right up and got him. We all just loved on him that day....he is doing awesome and we thank God it wasn't his time."

This carpet is lush and soft and my spilled coffee puddled on top for easy clean up with a paper towel and water, plus the install went smoothly and professionally.

A LETTER FROM MAYOR GARY SHIELDS Homecoming Celebration October 9 Dear Residents, Normally, I try to look forward when I write this monthly article but I would be remiss to not acknowledge what a great month September was in and around our town. Of course the highlight of the month for me is always the annual Community Day celebration. It is hard for me to recall any other single event that so effectively epitomizes the great character and strengths of our town and its citizens. It was a pleasure to see everybody there and an honor to participate in the celebration with you all. Also in September were the Colorado Cities and Towns Week, as well as National Preparedness Month. As a part of the Colorado Cities and Towns week, we had three events;

the town photo contest, touch-a-truck day at the elementary school and breakfast with the Town Board with the high school students. All three events were a huge success and are sure to be expanded upon in coming years. As a part of the National Preparedness month, town staff and local volunteers were trained to be severe weather spotters, which is an important part of the process in reporting severe weather, so that we can all get the alerts. This training is a direct result of the storms we had in the spring that came so close to town.

extension between Adams Avenue and Hwy. 66. Both of these latter projects I’ve mentioned are a result of grant awards that totaled $700K in awards to the town.

Moving forward now, there are still a few projects that we would like to finish up by years end. The storm sewer and road paving project in Sekich Business Park should be completed by early November; and, we will begin the new water line project along Welker Avenue between 3rd street and I-25 and the trail

As always, if you have any questions, concerns or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me by calling the Town Hall @ 970535-4477.

Lastly, I would like to acknowledge the Mead Mavericks football team who at the time of this writing are 3-0 with about a 40 point margin per game. Sincerely, Gary Shields, Town of Mead Mayor

he Mead Area Chamber of Commerce presented a check to Mead High School Athletic Department on Friday, September 25th during half-time of the MHS football game. The $1,553.38 check represents proceeds from the sale of ads on the Sports Poster. This Chamber program is now in its’ third year and to date, has donated more than $10,000 to MHS Athletics. The idea to take on this project and generate funds for the school came when a local businessman received a phone call from an out-of-state vendor, soliciting his company to advertise on the high school poster. He thought that it was a great idea, but when he mentioned

it to the athletic director, he was told that the high school received only the posters from the vendor and that there was no money given to the school. That’s when the light switch flicked on and he gave the idea to the Chamber as a way to help local businesses advertise AND raise money for our school community. The sports poster is created 3 times throughout the school year (fall, winter and spring). Advertisers can purchase 3 season ad space (no longer available for this school year) or 1 season ad space. If your business is interested in advertising on future posters, please contact Lisa Shields, MACC Executive Director, at 970-535-2108.

Students Enjoy Breakfast with Mead Board of Trustees We celebrated Colorado Cities and Towns Week from September 14-20, and members of the Board of Trustees sat down to enjoy breakfast with students from Mead High School. Elected officials are proud to work for all residents of Mead. Thank you to Principal Rawlings and Mr. Clark for graciously allowing the students to spend their Wednesday morning talking to their local officials about the many rewards and challenges of public service, about the variety of projects the Board is working on now, and about the vision our young residents have for the future of Mead. Thank you to the Board members and the students for participating in the discussion. Finally, thank you to Red Rooster for accommodating the 30+ of us during your breakfast rush!
