Message from the Executive Director Contemporary Art Projects USA returns to Art Boca Raton 2017 for the second time with an amazing roster of international contemporary artists. The exhibition will be curated by Mariavelia Savino, the gallery’s chief curator. “I am proud to have Ms. Savino as Chief Curator; a renowned art expert with extensive experience from institutions, art fairs, and biennales.” My mission is focused on promoting art appreciation within the international community to inspire and assist with the process of art collection, and to generate resources that support artists ‘creative endeavors through art awareness, artist promotion, and art procurement. We work with the best minds in the industry and share our experience and passion for marketing the arts, culture and entertainment; from Biennales and gala auctions, to exhibitions and major international art fairs, we have the commitment, innovation and creativity to engage audiences through inspired campaigns.
Tata Fernandez
MARIAVELIA SAVINO, CHIEF CURATOR For the past years, Contemporary Art Projects USA has included the curator figure in all its events and exhibitions; one of its major initiatives being the creation of a curatorial assessment and support program that encompasses the artist’s trajectory of a work from conception to completion. This mentorship is based on a one-to-one relationship between the artist and the curator where the artist expresses ideas, intentions, and reflections about the creative process that initiates a cooperation between them that develops into a project rather than an isolated piece without a totality. Each project is created according to the theme determined by the institution or fair where it will be exhibited, in that way, the curator figure in Contemporary Art Projects USA develops a comprehensive group of projects for each exhibition; as is the case with Art Boca Raton Fair second edition, where collectors, art lovers, and visitors will be able to appreciate an expertly orchestrated solo and collective project– all under one curatorial guidance, yet cognizant of and attentive to each artist’s unique creative process. It is our firm objective to continue to nurture and expand this curatorial services with our creative artists so that we can help them grow their careers; especially where it pertains to emerging artists. "I am a storyteller driven by the human condition. I paint stories of the human experience finding myself compelled by the stratums of circumstance, choice, emotion and fate, combined with the energy and influence of the past as all conjoined lay prism to the future. The interconnectedness of all elements of all time. What is seen and not seen. Known and not known. Contemporaneous, interacting and incessantly influencing one another in a continuum of the past, present, and future. The entirety exists concurrently. I paint for history; to render the human relationship with eternity, to demonstrate that the human reality as we experience it is bound to the continuum of time. My works are the complex language of layering multiple levels of imagery representational of our complicated existence, content of a consequence, condition, moment, notion or incident. Through my process, I expose beauty that outlives barbarity and splendor that transcends from tragedy. The soul of life demonstrated in depictions of figures interacting within a realm of time, of realities, and with one another. I express the plane of existence pictorially divided, fragmented, as the energy and emotion around each being and happening. Often this movement is abstract... often is literal. I create images from inside myself, carry them and grow them within me until I create. Most of my paintings are of women and their realities as they relate to the greater human experience. I paint to deliver a vision that others have not seen... to share what the human eye alone is incapable of seeing. Just as it takes a microscope to see microorganisms or a telescope to see the universe beyond Earth, my understanding offers as a lens or instrument that can illustrate the entirety of a situation. I have so much work to do, limitless objects and images to accomplish. I maintain the innumerable within myself as they are laid out before me resembling a reel of film. I engage, evolve and cultivate these works until the moment does arise that I produce them. They are transformed in the days I draft them in my mind, perfected in composition, color and narrative. Current events are capable of influencing and altering the works. Present affairs impact the images but frequently their purpose is so interwoven with the past that they often forecast occurrences before they transpire. I worked oils since my early life and prefer my expressions to be shared in their radiance applied using master techniques."‌Michele A. Utley-Voigt

Ricardo Lowenberg is a renowned Mexican Artist influenced by European Impressionism, as well as by Mexican muralists and masters such as Diego Rivera (1886-1957), David Alfaro Siqueiros (1896-1974), Rufino Tamayo (1899-1991) and Frida Kahlo (1907-1954). Lowenberg says: "The decision of being ourselves is
difficult, very few of us have succeeded. To experience fearless, is yet more difficult..." His friend and mentor Jose Luis Cuevas (b. 1934) introduced his
exhibition at the Centro Cultural Siqueiros in Mexico City. Lowenberg's artworks are part of collections in Mexico, USA, Europe, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, and Japan. His elegant and sophisticated abstract paintings, made with subtle textures and tones created by lapis lazuli, silver and gold leaves, are powerful, beautifully and exquisitely balanced. This self-taught artist, whose works seldom have been inspired by the surrounding nature and life experiences, is defined as Chameleonic because he enjoys exploration and constant change. His dynamic shapes and spaces are depicted with equilibrated rhythm. Surprising structures and symbolic figurations are characteristic of his work that in the overall transmits happiness, strength, color and life.

Ricardo Cárdenas is a successful emerging artist born in México. His career is growing as his exhibitions and rising popularity demonstrate. On his artworks, Cardenas expresses his feelings and beliefs, connecting in media and technique with his career as construction engineer. He cleverly uses building materials, such as concrete and steel bars, as his artistic media for his paintings and sculptures. Recently he has exhibited in important Art Fairs in the United States, presented by Contemporary Art Projects USA, such as Art Concept during Art Basel Miami week 2016, Art Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Art Palm Beach, in January 2017. In 2016 he also participated in the solo show Paramo at the art gallery of Miami Dade College West Campus, in Doral. Ricardo Cardenas is a genuine and original creator. He proves this with his exquisite series of tributes to great masters. Cardenas reinterprets as a poster or street graffiti the main traits of the art from a chosen master artist, using as his canvas the cement and iron bars characteristic of his work on which he will paint and also add collage. At Art Boca Raton, in the Contemporary Art Projects USA, Booth 108, Cardenas presents his unique artwork Mi Jungla: Tribute to Wilfredo Lam. He uses a red background on which he reinterprets some of the images depicted by Lam in his well-known masterwork The Jungle (1943) that is part of the MoMA New York collection. But in his artwork, Cardenas brings his interpretation to his media and technique, as well as to our present time. He uses steel bars for depicting the sugarcane fields and lives some parts as bare concrete, making his artwork to resemble a contemporary urban forest instead of a Cuban jungle. Yet, Cardenas uses the unforgettable imagery of Lam, but at the same time he makes it his own. The tribute is just perfect, as the fusion that Cardenas successfully creates among the two artistic visions…

Michael Carini, the Acrylic Alchemist, says: "Don’t be afraid to be different... Be afraid to be the same." He received his artistic training in Los Angeles, studying at Loyola Marymount University while at the same time serving as an apprentice under respected artists Jane Brucker and Roland Reiss. In 2006 he graduated at the top of his class with honors including the Scholar of Distinction Award in Painting, and returned to his hometown in San Diego, where he currently maintains his studio. His creative visions play with your senses and illuminate the human condition as he delves into the uncensored depths of his mind and invites you to catch a glimpse of the other side. Transmuting his medium through what he describes as a poetically alchemical process based upon the principles of equivalent exchange (Acrylic Alchemy), Carini hopes that you will completely lose yourself within these labyrinthine experiences, only to discover a new sense of self and emerge reborn. Recycled art from the remnants of his palettes, the Carini Alchemy Cubes are a hybridization of Carini’s “Beautiful Accidents” (based on the Japanese aesthetics of wabi, sabi, and shibui) and the hard-edge geometric elements from his series The Up-Side of Down. Fun, design friendly, and great in sets, these paradoxical cubes playfully blend the extremes of organic and inorganic as they balance the beauty of the number 3 and let nothing go to waste. Carini’s cubes really take thinking outside the box as he puts the beauty back in them. Welcome to the world of “The Boy In The Box”.

Adriana Dorta Sáez, born in Caracas, Venezuela, graduated in Business and studied Visual Arts in the American Art Institute of Miami. From early age, she developed an inclination towards the art inspired by effects of light through shades and color in the stained glass of France's old cathedrals, like Chartres and NotreDame en Vaux. Dorta says: "... As an adult, I now perceive my paintings as a form
of multicolor light through precise lines that reflect the influence of my passion for stained glass and how it reflects the straight lines that moves throughout the day. That's how I try to transmit the magic that can only live in those sacred windows."
She has also a great passion for geometric abstract art, as can be viewed in her work at Art Boca Raton. Geometric art was significant in the art of native cultures in the Americas as well as in Europe, Asia, Africa or Oceania. These primeval artistic languages inspired international great masters of Kinetic, Optical and Geometric Abstraction from which Dorta takes great motivation, such as Yaacov Agam (b. 1928), Josef Albers (1888–1976), Kenneth Noland (1924–2010) and Frank Stella (b. 1936). Dorta cleverly studies and reinterprets them, reaching new dimensions and unique creative conceptions through her exquisite and innovative artworks.

Kelly Fisher, Switzerland-based/American born artist, always creates vibrant multicolored and powerful artworks. The artist says: "The colors that one chooses
as an artist, are an unveiling of our creative personality. My intention is to provoke and present evocative artworks that leave an imprint on the soul... Color forces us to see things differently and does have an impact on the viewer... Shades of grey help to grasp and pay attention to line, shadow, and texture. But, the most significant feature is the strength in the piece itself... I developed a passion for painting and storytelling at young age... Over time painting challenged me in a way that nothing else ever had. I get a lot of satisfaction out of creating whatever I want...no rules or boundaries. Writing and painting are different yet the same. My dream is to reach a larger audience. The support received in both Europe and the States is influential in helping me to forge my career." Kelly Fischer, a trained Montessori teacher, the founder and former Headmistress of The English Montessori School of Bern, Switzerland, is an Award-Winning Author with the book The Most Beautiful Color of All.

Lolo Loren, born Lise Lorraine Gelderman, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, signs her art with LL that stands for all the L’s in her names and life. Today, Lolo lives at Ibiza with her children. Inspired by the island, the light, the objectivity of the people, the absolute tranquility versus the bohemian party scene, she found her place to live and to paint, looking for new inspiration through fashion, people, colors, internet, the sea, the beach, the sand, a party – everything she saw or experienced, when you look long enough you will discover hidden faces or items or things to see which are not seen or seen differently by others, suddenly appearing without purpose. From painting came photography. Her interaction with the camera position and her feelings in that moment determine the final image. Lolo’s only goal is that the images let you explore your own thoughts and desires, as the viewers can appreciate in her exquisite photograph Triangle presented by Contemporary Art Projects USA at Art Boca Raton.

"Eppur si muove..." (And yet it moves...) Galileo Galilei, 1564-1682 J. Margulis (b. Caracas 1970) presents his kinetic sculptures colorful or monochrome, in which color and transparency create a surprising effect of change and movement that will transport the viewer to a new dimension. J. Margulis is a multitalented artist that excelled in his work as photographer to later develop his present conceptions of unique 3-D sculptures. Following the path indicated by the great last century masters of the genre, such as Venezuelan Jesus Soto, Russian constructivist and kinetic pioneer Naum Gabo or Italian Alberto Biasi, Margulis bring us to the new optical dimensions created by kinetic art. During the 1600's it was told that the master of painting Diego Velazquez (1599-1660) was able to depict the air surrounding his subjects, today we can say that J. Margulis is the master of "kinetic air", as in his sculptures he makes his viewers to taste the inaccessible, the ethereal, and the transparent that trough his vibrations fulfils their feelings with surprise and excitement. There are two qualities that I like in Margulis artworks: their delicate insinuation and the refined elegance, which position them in the category of unique original artworks that are at the same time beautiful as well as intelligently conceived pieces of science. The artist has said: “I believe that
courage, empathy and kindness are all ingredients in a powerful and elusive formula, which arms us with a clean and ever sharpening lens that catches fleeting glimpses of our true nature; small fractions of divine understanding that reverberate in our essence with the power to shape our deepest beliefs and completely change our perspectives, and so, the way we act in the unfolding of our own existence. My work is about the physical representation of this belief. I digitally design 3-D objects and compositions, and cut them in slices from different types of plastic sheet materials. These slices are then fixed to a rigid canvas, a pedestal or held together in space. Most of my work is done using acrylic sheets with different levels of translucency in a range of colors, graphic patterns, textures and photographic images directly printed on the sheets' surfaces... I treat my threedimensional pieces as light traps or secret blueprints, in which by controlling the placement of its components, I'm able to create intriguing 3-D containers.. These exposed patterns and designs are not absolutes or unique, because as the viewer changes his point of view, the work expresses a different narrative that is completely new within its own essence. It intrigues and fascinates me how the object mutates in front of me, with no other resource but a simple change of perspective... Text by Mariavelia Savino, Chief Curator/Contemporary Art Projects USA

Daniel Marin, a Spanish-German artist born in Wolfenbüttel, Germany, from Spanish parents, has spent half of his life in Spain, where he currently lives. He started painting at 16. In Spain, he achieved degrees in English and Gemology. He worked as Graphic designer in the advertisement industry and as a Jewel designer for his own brand, increasing the foundation of his true passion: painting. Interested in astrology, science, philosophy, religions, and ancient civilizations, this rich knowledge is depicted on his works. Marin has travelled the world, living in Brazil, India, Marocco and visiting many other countries, where he always pursued to learn from their mentality and culture. His work has been exhibited in relevant art centers like New York, Berlin, Stuttgart, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, Salvador de Bahía, Belgrade, Nador, among others. He has upcoming exhibitions in Paris, Venice and Dubai. After exploring different styles, techniques and figurative subjects, he decided to express his ideas and emotions through abstract painting that allows him to better communicate his complex inner world. Following in the path of Pollock, Twombly, De Kooning, Gorki or Rothko, Marin developed a personal style merging oil, acrylic, enamels, spray and collage techniques that have some parallels with the work of Robert Rauschenberg or Jasper Johns. His contact with varied cultures around the world, his own background and his constant desire to learn makes his art unique. His first works were related to ancient gods and cultures, such as Greek mythology or Hindi religion. Searching for spirituality he explored Biblical themes and recently alchemy, allowing him to set a practical and a spiritual dimension. His goal is to transmit positive energy and feelings to benefit his viewers and our contemporary world. Daniel says: “A painter paints
what he sees, an artist paints what he feels.”

In the series Clones, Anika Shpilberg, celebrated photographer and painter, translates these two media to a fusion that, as a sculptural installation of mannequins, originates the images of her photographs. Some mannequins are nude or she dresses them with wigs, hats or painting on them. The artist says:
"Images are the language of my thoughts. I am inspired by my surroundings and experiences lived. Color is integral to the story, my aim is to make the story a personal one, yet one the viewer can enter and share... Sorting through the images that 'make sense', I weave them into fragments that tell a story. Some are printed on canvas or paper utilizing mixed media to deliver the intended message. Others I leave pristine. The purpose is to capture instances in time that form a narrative interpreted by the observers, who add their biases as they reflect on the images. In the series Clones mannequins became real after working on the pictures to get them to their most perfected state, became part of my own world and environment. It was difficult at times to see them just as simple mannequins. They all developed a story about their realities, their struggles and the feminine condition." The word fusion has many meanings that encompass science, physics,
or the arts, where the term is used as the process of combining two or more distinct entities into a new whole. The word synthesis, a closer synonymous from ancient Greek means putting together, composition. Anika's elegant minimalistic mannequins interact as anonymous human beings carrying the mysterious essence of the world-famous science fiction novels by Aldous Huxley, Ray Bradbury or George Orwell.

Gary Traczyk attended Miami's New World School of the Arts and an international program in Italy. The artist says: "To create my sculptures I use marine grade
stainless steel that is cut on a band saw. The metal is then grinded down to smooth the edges. After this process, I sand the stainless steel from 50 to 400 grit and next buff it out with rouge. Then, I start to form the metal around organic objects and jigs that I previously created. When the metal reaches a form to my liking, I sand it out, polishing it again to achieve the mirror finish. The balances of my sculptures are strictly done on a trial and error basis. They are kinetic and move for several minutes with one touch. The pivoting point is a stainless steel bearing. I use geometric forms in space to interact with negative space, creating movement of light and reflections of the surrounding area. My final product are timeless art pieces." Traczyk has donated sculptures to health-related charities, including those fighting cancer, autism, and Parkinson’s disease, he says: “It’s really wonderful to help people who need it.” His work, celebrated during the years in well-known art fairs, museums, galleries and publications, is represented in important private and public collections in the USA and abroad.

Henrik Welle, underwater artist born in Germany and residing now in Miami, says:
"I’ve chosen photography to capture the present moment and freeze it in time. A photograph can bring you back to the feeling that you had in the time of its creation or when you saw it the first time, can create an emotion and inspire your imagination whenever you gaze at it. The underwater world, birthplace of all life on this earth, has always been my greatest passion. With my macro photography, I showcase these amazing wonders of nature in a different light." The photograph at Art Boca Raton is entitled I see you, I see me! Fish Species: Coney; Location: Turks & Caicos; Equipment: Cannon 50D, 60mm lens; Depth: 25 Feet; "After a uneventful dive, we headed back to the boat. The highlight we had, was a small reef shark casually cruising along the reef. Everybody lined up to enter the boat. I decided to stay a little longer since I had 15 minutes left of dive time. While testing my equipment, I noticed a spectator trying to find out what I was doing. The Coney fish came to me and started checking out my big underwater camera housing. When he saw his own reflection in the macro dome port, he got very excited and became playful. I took the chance and snapped away. Most pictures were out of focus because my new buddy got to close. He touched the dome port, shot back just to return and do the same over again. It was not an aggressive behavior. Time flew by until I heard a clanging in the water, signaling from the boat to finish up my dive. Loading the picture in Photoshop, I removed the turquoise color of the ocean background."

CURATORIAL PROGRAM Contemporary Art Projects USA has been including the curator in all its events and exhibitions - one of its main initiatives being the creation of a program geared at providing curatorial assistance. To mark the interaction between artist and curator the Program makes emphasis on 3 general elements: 1) EVALUATION 2) PRODUCTION 3) SUCCESS Artist and curator examine and point out the sources of inspiration and main goals, either for an individual artwork, for one series, or for the overall of the artist's body of work. The Curator will use a straight forward critical method to reach positive action, uplifting changes or improvements; as well as a direct interaction between message, communication, visual creation, and exhibition feasibility of the art, taking in consideration sales possibility for diverse scenarios. To implement the thought that each artist is unique and will create its own niche in the Art World. Our lemma, is: "Contemporary Art Projects USA, where Emerging and Career
Artists become Famous."
