My grandmother never knitted me a sweater. I had an aunt who crocheted, but that never provided me with a sweater, either. Still on the positive side, I’ve never ended up with one of those horrible Christmas sweaters that are usually only worn once and then stuffed way back into the dark recesses of some closet. Or, on occasion, are only pulled out to wear to one of those “Horrible Sweater” parties. My sweater experiences have actually mainly been good, my often having called upon them to keep me warm during cold weather. I’m still bemoaning the mysterious disappearance of my favorite Aron Island Fisherman’s sweater while I was taking a sauna in Sweden. Possibly, some Swede was jealous that I preferred a sweater from Ireland, or jealous that he/she didn’t have one and decided to make it so? It didn’t take me very long to realize that most any of my favorite sweaters, as well as being worn solo, could be incorporated with any of my suits or sports jackets, acting as substitutes or alternatives for vests. Nothing quite like a soft blue cashmere v-neck sweater to provide exquisite bracketing for a silk tie while wearing a bespoke suit. And turtleneck sweaters, in-fashion-or-out, can still look classy. Not to mention how sweaters can often make suits or sports coats seem to be entirely different than when they’re worn with a shirts, ties, and vests; thereby, making it appear as if any man’s wardrobe is more extensive than it really is. For those men who never wear a vest, or a tie, or a suit, or a sports coat, (you really should give it a try!), a sweater, worn over an open-neck shirt, or just over an undershirt, can still provide not only muchappreciated warmth but a bit of appreciable sartorial benefit. —William Maltese is the author of over 200-published fiction and non-fiction books, in just about every genre. Interview with James Harris By Wanda Julian

How long have you been a writer? I began my writing career in 2006 when a foot surgery left me stranded to a recliner. I was reading a book by Terry Brooks when the idea of Icearaus came to mind. Since its conception the World of Icearaus has changed and developed from nothing more than a thought into an amazing environment where anything is possible. What inspires you to write? This may sound unusual, but I believe nothing really inspires me to write. It’s more like an urge, a scratch you just quite can’t reach as I search for the exact word to create the perfect sentence to place laughter, or tears in the hearts of my readers. With this understanding I believe I write because I have walked beside Allanon has he explored the World of Shannara, Richard Rahl as a Seeker of Truth, or Drizzt Do’Urden when he left the darkness of Menzoberranzan only to discover a new world waiting on the surface. With that said, I believe I write well because I draw on the experiences I’ve had as I wondered the world one page at a time. Tell us about Icearaus Flight? Icearaus Flight begins on the World of Icearaus which is located 320 million light years from Earth in the Draconian Galaxy. The world is a failed world where corruption runs rampant and the king has sold his soul to Satan in exchange for immortality. To retain his immortality, King Karayan’s only requirement is to sacrifice the child of a bearer—A woman who is gifted with a child by the Creator. King Karayan chooses to rule Icearaus with an iron fist and torture to acquire which he desires has become common place. Elwrick, a spiritual guide whose job was to guide the inhabitants of Icearaus in an honorable and just direction has vanished, his role having become obsolete as the world tumbles darker into despair. In a last-ditch effort to save Icearaus, Elwrick returns and recruits an unusual host of characters to escort the last bearer before the Creator destroys the world. Unbeknownst to Elwrick, his actions set in motion a long-forgotten prophecy which are bound to change the world of Icearaus forever. What do you love about writing? I love the fact that I can create anything I want, even a whole knew world no one has ever experienced. Afterward, I can take the reader and rip them from their everyday life and place them within that world and allow them to cry beside the character or cheer out in victory. Most importantly, I hope that when the reader closes the book, the experience stays with them and they think, what a neat and exotic world they would love to revisit again and again. What are your dreams? My dreams would be for someone to read my books and know that my writing inspired them to discover their own creativity and pick up a pen and write a book of their own, because inside every one of us is a story waiting to be told.

What are you passionate about? I would have to say what I am most passionate about is reading. As Stephen King said, “If you don’t have time to read, then you don’t have the time or tools to write.” This statement nails a writer perfectly. Every writer must be a passionate reader. When I read, I read with passion not for the story, but for the way the story is written, the way the author manipulates words to paint an image, the way the sentence is structed to convey exactly what they want you to read. In the stories I write, my readers would have to believe I am passionate about my descriptions as I go into extreme detail to paint the picture while leaving out just enough to allow the readers imagination to run wild. In truth, I am passionate about dialogue as that’s what tells the story. It’s the famous lines that people remember, such at. “Understand this: things are now in motion which cannot be undone,” by Gandalf in Lord of the Rings or by Trinity in the Matrix, “Dodge this.” Lines like these are what brings a story to life and keeps people turning the pages wondering what the future holds. Where would you like to be in 5 years? This is a tough question and one which is nearly impossible for me to answer with any sense of weight behind it. There are so many things I have going on right now with helping my sister get her first book published while also working on The Hour of Reckoning—the third instalment of The World of Icearaus. I have begun to design the maps for an offshoot of the World of Icearaus saga titled The Life of Malvo Necrosyse which tells the story that leads up to Icearaus Flight. Also, in the works (currently untitled) is another series which takes us back to the reptilian homeland. Everything I have going on right now keeps me busy enough that I really don’t have time to focus on five years in the future. Where can we buy your books at? Interview with Thomas Hobson By Wanda Julian

How long have you been acting? I started acting when I was 6 years old. I saw a commercial on TV and there was a kid that looked like me and I told my parents that I wanted to do what he did. Luckily, I grew up about an hour from Los Angeles and I have fantastic parents who said yes but also made sure that I had a normal childhood! I got an agent at 6 years old and by the time I was six and a half I’d done a couple of commercials and my first TV guest starring role and never looked back. What inspires you to act? I’m a pretty shy person, which people always find shocking, but performing has always been a release for me. I love entertaining people and I love the make believe aspect of acting. I also love that I get to be so many different people and that I learn more about myself from the characters I play. As an adult, my inspiration to act also comes from my desire to create a space for people who look like me. Growing up, I was constantly trying to find myself on TV and in film and it was hard. Often black characters were stereotypes and I didn’t “fit” those stereotypes… Now I’m excited to create characters that resonate with everyone but especially overlooked groups. How long have you been dancing? I started dancing around the age of 6 as well. I started taking classes and joined a dance team and competed. I’d say dancing is my third favorite talent but having the technical training in all types of dance has helped my career immensely. I’ve had to dance in theatre, TV and film in my career and it’s always great to know that I can do and do it well! I also think that dancers are just beautiful to watch. A great dancer can move me to tears and I'm blessed to be friends with some amazing dancers. I love to sing. How long have you been singing for? Ha! That's a fun story. Singing was my last talent to manifest itself because I didn't know to look for it. No one in my family sings! I'm the lone wolf. When I was about 8 years old, my agent sent an audition for a boy band being put together by Jackie Jackson (Michael's older brother). My mom told my agent that I didn't sing, my agent said to go anyway, and I was selected for the group. Nothing ever came of it, but I got to spend a couple of months hanging out and rehearsing at the Jackson family compound, got to meet Janet Jackson and I learned that I can sing. I've been singing ever since.

What was it like to be on The Fresh Beat Band? The Fresh Beat Band will always have a special place in my heart. It was 7 years of hard work and pure magic. I was initially hesitant to go to the audition because I, like many people, looked down on kids' shows and thought that I was "above" them. I'm happy that I didn't listen to myself. It was the ultimate training ground. I got to sing, dance, and act every week... We tackled different genres of music, different styles of dance; when the show finally ended, I was confident that I could do anything because our producers and writers had thrown every challenge they could think of at us. I'm eternally grateful to them for that. And the kids... Oh man, that's my favorite part. While we were filming, we didn't get to interact with the fan base much, but when we went on tour, that all changed. We got to perform for thousands of kids and their families every night and we had meet and greets with a couple hundred of them after each concert. We got to see first hand the full impact of the show. We were meeting kids with special needs, cancer, kids of soldiers stationed overseas... We had a real sense of purpose and an understanding of the importance of the job we were doing. Those were my favorite moments and I'm still in touch with a lot of the families we met on the road. We did 60 episodes of the TV show, a TV concert special, 20 episodes of the cartoon spinoff, The Fresh Beat Band of Spies, and 305 concerts across America... What a ride! Are you still friends with any of the castmates? I'm still incredibly close with my castmates. We are like siblings at this point and have a shared history that very few people can understand. We are all working on different projects now but we talk all of the time usually via group text and we try to get together for dinner or brunch as often as we can. Jon Beavers is my dude. I have so much respect for him as a person and as an artist and I've loved watching his career take off. Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer is just pure joy and so damn talented. She sings, she acts, she dances, she writes, she plays like 4 instruments... one of my biggest regrets of the last year is that I didn't get to see her in Hadestown on Broadway before all of the COVID craziness. And Tara Perry, she was the last member of the group to join, but she's become my sister. I'm actually in Arkansas right now filming a movie with her. She co-wrote it, she's producing it and she's my co-star. It's been such a treat working with her again. It's an inspiring group of folks to be associated with. I will always love them and I'll always be cheering them on. What are your dreams? I was six years old when I told my parents what I wanted to do with my life. When I turned 18, I went to Yale University and decided to be pre-med... that lasted one semester (I don't like blood! HA!) and I changed my major to theatre. My dream has always been to make my living entertaining people on stage and on screen. I dream of a career that includes tv, film, and Broadway. I dream of EGOTs. I dream of a life where I'm happily exhausted from jumping between jobs. When I was younger, I used to say that I wanted to be a Will Smith or a Denzel Washington (I'd still enjoy that) but as I've gotten older, I've really started to admire the careers of actors like Giancarlo Esposito and Joe Morton... actors whose careers have stood the test of time AND whose resumes are such an eclectic mix of characters and mediums. I'm also excited by a challenge. I'm filming a movie right now called "Ghosts of The Ozarks" (the film that Tara Perry co-wrote) and I'm getting to act with Tim Blake Nelson, Phil Morris, David Arquette, Angela Bettis, and my girl Tara Perry... it's a dream! They are challenging me and elevating me and it's just been magical. My dream is a lifetime of this kind of magic. What are you passionate about? I'm passionate about my art. I'm passionate about my family. I've got such an amazing family unit. I'm not sure what I would be or where I would be without them by my side. I'm passionate about my friends. I love reading good books. I love traveling. I love good movies and tv shows. And I'm passionate about justice and equality. As a Black person, and as a gay person, it's hard not to be. These are strange and turbulent times we're living in but I'm excited to see people in the streets marching for an end to police brutality and demanding justice for black

people that have been killed by police officers. I'm happy that the supreme court has officially protected LGTBQ+ people from discrimination in the work force... It's scary sometimes to speak up and to use your platform to demand justice but it must be done. To my very last breath I will proclaim that black lives matter, black trans lives matter and it's been SO wonderful to see millions of people around the world marching IN A PANDEMIC, to support that belief. Where do you see yourself in five years? In five years, I see myself on a hit primetime TV series and spending my hiatuses making movies and doing theatre. Broadway has always been a dream of mine, so that is definitely in the five year plan. As a lover of theatre, it's been really hard to see what COVID has done to the theatre community, but I know it will come back stronger than ever. Theatre has survived for millenia. I'd also like to start producing projects in the next five years. I executive produced a short film a couple of years ago and I really enjoyed the experience. It turns out that after 30 years in front of the camera, I've learned a few things about how things work behind the camera too.

Bridging the Gap With

Burgett Bridging the Gap can and does mean many things but for now it means, figuring out how to calm a worried mind and find the petunias to smell because the cost of roses has skyrocketed. Supply and demand no longer seems to be the criteria for keeping the florists fully stocked. It could be that the supplier has not survived the quarantine the country is involved in or the truck line has been delayed? So, petunias it is! There is a piece of wisdom that says, Practice divine indifference. If it isn’t something that doesn’t feel good or has the guidelines of a panic mode in the making, then it gets no attention from this carbon unit. It’s normally harder to be around only positive people, but because of the current Pandemic situation there are more people staying home or at least covering their faces with masks of varying patterns and designs. The masks creates a feeling of distance and if you don’t want to share air with the person you are talking to or want to communicate it’s a little more effort and as a result a wave of the hand can cut the encounter short, or give the encounter more time and attention. I’m going to miss that part of wearing the face girdles. Becoming more acquainted with your stuff has created a new appreciation for what you had once thought was good taste. It’s possible that it’s time to considered challenging your choices of stuff. The cleaning of kitchen, or bathroom drawers has become a peaceful mind clearing ritual for some. One would wonder how a receipt for a power bill from 1993, got stuck in with the makeup with the same expiration date. It feels great to toss it out and know that there really isn’t anyone on the planet who could use or want it. It’s a cleansing ritual for the soul and maybe a pledge to consider the next two for one sale? Will we ever be back to normal? I fortunately forgot what normal was. Because of the memory thing it will be easier for me. I like the idea of some of the things that weren’t good for anyone may go away. The new found respect for ourselves and our country will remain for the betterment of all? Bridging the gap of understanding and tolerance for all would be my request of the Universe and in the practice of divine indifference is a marvelous idea?

How old were you when you first started drag? I was 21 when I started dabbling with make up and hair and dressing at home. It was when I was 22 I started going to to the bars and doing shows. Eventually I started preforming big venues with bigee groups of queens and My carrerr took off from there What advice would you give to those that are just starting out? Don't push your self to fast. Take time to find your drag style and character. there are certain things you will only learn with time. Never stop pushing your and eventually everything will fall in place. What excites you more performing or interviewing other people? I am obviously a attention whore. I deffently like to be seen especially in drag. Honestly I love them both for different reasons. I can go on stage and feel like a rock star and dance the house down feel my fantsey on stage and at the same time it's kinda nice sitting down getting to know another performers on a total different level and giving the a platform to be heard where maybe there voices would other wise be muffled. I love doing both and really hope to have the opportunity to tak them both to the next level There is a big space between being supportive and competitive. How do you handle it? Well kinda in my opinion I would rather see everyone put in a amazing show on and be on top of their game. In fact I'm always one of those queens who will help other performers in the dressing room because I rather work with or compete against the best of the best that way I know if i have a successful show or win a competition it's even more satisfying knowing I beat the best. But don't get me wrong I'm a competive girl and will bring my A game to win or entertain but want to know I did it with everyone in their top game. How did you come up with the idea of interviewing drag queens? Well when quarentine hit all my shows I had booked for 6 months out got cancled instantly. so I started thinking what kind of thing I could do to to still make my self relvaent and still be able to do drag. Thankfully It instantly clicked that I should do a talk show featuring local performer. It started as a modist idea with one guest booked then over night had guest booked out for months. I like doing this because it really gives me a chance to not only highlight these performers but I also get to know them on a different level. I very greatful I finally got the motivation to start this show and am plestently surprised how it's evolved and the range of guest I have been lucky enough to Interveiw. Honestly it's something I wanted to do for several years. I grew up in the 80's and 90's watching all kinds of talk shows and always wanted to be a talk show host especially in drag like rupaul did in the 90s for vh1. Eventually shows like hey qween came out but were always focused on the rupaul girls and not so much for the local performers. To me there is alot of talent among the local performers that just need a platform to bee seen. Do you think of yourself as a role model? Honeslty I would like to think so I been doing drag for 15 years and do my best to to always hold myself in a

professional but approachable manner. I've worked very hard with in my drag to get to the point that I'm at now. I have also been lucky enough with in my carrier to do some fun and amazing things including being involved with movies, music videos, creating music, talk shows, even meeting rupaul and so much more. Because of these opertunities it's been able to show major evolution in my drag and show a softer side of bitchcock that allowed people to really fall in love with her What is it in your life that challenges you? Just like anyone else I have my struggles through out Mt life that I could of easily let defeat me. My biggest weekness is deffenity my self doubt. I'm constantly beating my self up thinking I'm not good enough or not being like by a certain clicks. when in the long run if I'm having fun and sharing my drag with the world that's all that should matter. but I will say I don't let those insecurities define me and I will always push to my best and keep evolving into a better me. I would also say finding What makes you happy? Well honestly I'm happiest having my wonder boyfriend and pupoy by my side watching horror movies eating pizza and haveing the ability to express my self through the power of Drag. What are you passionate about? Drag is deffently my biggest life passion. There is just somthing about being able to change my appearance and be able to create a amazing performance that has always brought joy to my life. It's funny cause as long as I can rember even as a kid I wanted to be a professional drag queen traveling the world making my name know by just the power of Drag. Drag has done so much for my life and given me so many opportunities including doing music, being in a movie, being in music videos, and snatching titles and awards. My life will for ever be changed for the positive because I have drag in my life Do you have a dream of what your future will be like? I would say yes right now in my drag Career my ultimate goal is to get maliena on a little reality youtube show called camp Wana kiki. With today’s obsession in personal development we are often preached that a positive mindset will help change everything that is going wrong with our lives. Nowadays motivating graffiti quotes decorate street corners; apps push messages of hope and motivation on your phone every hour and every month there is a new bestseller that promises to change your life! But somehow, no matter how much we read or listen to these techniques our lives don’t always magically change for the better. The misconception with positivity is that we expect it to work right away. As humans we now expect to receive everything at the push of a button, and therefore we suffer from the need of instant gratification. If you do not start with the understanding that the power of a positive mindset is a long-term lifestyle choice versus a short-term trend, then nobody can guarantee that there will ever be a significant change in your life. Our misconception continues when we think that to focus on the positive, we must be oblivious to the negative. It is no wonder that new habits cannot be formed if we are discouraged as we are trying to attain something that is impossible to achieve. Nothing in nature exists with only a positive force, even the nucleus of our cells has positive and negative ions. Both need to exist for there to be balance for life. The secret to the power of positivity lies in creating positive habits, so that when negativity strikes, we are more prepared to bounce back to the positive instead of being dragged into a black hole of negativity, depression, and despair. Napoleon Hill has always stated this best for me; “The person who thinks in terms of power, success, opulence, sets up a rhythm which attracts these desirable possessions. The person who thinks in terms of misery, failure, defeat, discouragement, and poverty attracts these undesirable influences. This explains why both success and failure are the result of habit. Habit establishes one’s rhythm of thought, and that rhythm attracts the objects of one’s dominating thoughts.”1 Therefore, instead of trying to see the world through a pair of rosy pink sunglasses I suggest starting to practice positive habits. Making small changes daily, weekly, or even monthly, will help you utilize positivity in the long term. Gratitude practices, meditation and even journaling are some ways to start but not the only ones. Positivity, mindset, and habits are very individualist and can take years of tweaking, failing, and restarting. Exploring what works for you, how you can be your best self and develop yourself for the goals you have is a great place to start. Interview with Hannah Roberts by Wanda Julian How did you get started acting? I was actually a very shy kid who was quiet and didn’t have a lot of confidence. One day in school I got given a play to read in a group and I loved reading in. I loved having the freedom to create this character, the hidden motivations and plot twists. I got the bug for it haha. It gave me this confidence and a voice I hadn’t had before, so I started getting more involved in school and local community plays. I then started drama school to start training a few years later. Did you have any training? Yes I started at drama school when I was around 14. I then studied GCSE’s and A levels in drama before going to university to train. I then trained in acting for screen after this. Now I make sure I am doing workshops when I can to keep my training up. What inspires you? People often inspire me. It could be a great story told, an act of kindness, watching other people’s strength in a challenging situation. I love to listen and learn from others, it helps me to learn important lessons and strive to be the best version of myself. Watching my peers push forward in this industry inspires me to do the same, to never give up and to have the confidence to take risks and believe in myself. How long have you been an actress? I have been professionally acting for around 12 years now. What role have you wanted to play but haven’t gotten to play yet? My all-time favourite role to play would be Marquise de Merteuil from Dangerous Liaisons. I love powerful female characters that have so much depth and complexity to them. She is the embodiment of power and deception hiding behind a mask, until it’s taken away and she’s left with a vulnerable public downfall. Exploring her would be so challenging and exciting. What do you do for relaxation and for entertainment? I am a bit of a movie geek so I love to relax with movies. I also love stand-up comedy so go to comedy clubs with friends. I go to the gym to unwind and love to bake. What are you passionate about? My biggest passions are acting, for theatre, film and tv and also my family. My mum and big sister inspire me so much and I love spending time with them. I’m passionate about cooking and love to bake, especially healthy recipes. Since being in lockdown my passion for fitness has grown and I’ve dedicated a lot of time to training and learning about health and nutrition.

What future projects are you working on? I’ve got a couple of projects that I am auditioning for now and I am keeping close contact with my agent to see what opportunities we can shoot for once things get moving after lockdown. It’s exciting to see things picking up now so looking forward to seeing what I land next! When you take on a role. How long does it take you to get out of character? For me it really depends on the character and the project length. If it’s a theatre tour it can take longer once the production is closed as you’ve been playing that character every day for weeks at a time! I also find it takes me a little longer to regroup after a tough emotional scene just because the prep for that can be quite intense. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself continuing to do what I love! I’m looking forward to seeing how I can enhance my skills as an actor and continue to grow. I want to utilise my flair for accents more - Let’s see what new challenging and exciting roles come my way.
