Reasons for doing the trip? I backpacked through Europe before but wasn’t sure about going solo in Asia. That’s why this trip was perfect. Everything was sorted and I made friends almost instantly.

Reason for doing the trip? I had just finished university and just wanted to finally visit Europe and see as much as possible!

Highlights of the trip? Bathing with elephants in Kanchanaburi! It was amazing being in a sanctuary knowing they weren’t being exploited.

Highlights of the trip? The trip was so full of adventure! Amazing way to travel and see so much in a little amount of time. I budgeted for some Free Time Add-Ons and they were all so worth it.

Highlights of the trip: Obviously, Machu Picchu, but all the other stuff I wasn’t expecting blew me away: meeting llamas, trying all the food and meeting the friendly locals.

BEFORE YOU BOOK WHAT’S INCLUDED THE ESSENTIALS All accommodation, transportation, and a good handful of meals are included in the cost of your Contiki trip (in most regions we offer breakfast every day, plus a cherry-picked selection of authentic and tasty meals). We also have our Included Experiences, which are basically the sights and activities we think you just can’t afford to miss. And then of course you also get our expert and highly trained team of Contiki staff; our Trip Managers, and English speaking Local Guides. Plus we include all private coach transportation and internal flights (check your itinerary). We also include sightseeing tours of all major cities and orientations in all other destinations, and hotel tips (excluding North America & Latin America), local taxes and service charges.

WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED Flights to and from your start and end destination are not included in the cost of your trip. These can be booked independently, or added on during the booking process either online or with your travel agent. We also keep a number of meal times free for you to explore a region and its foodie offerings in greater detail, so budgeting for non-catered meals is important. In terms of activities, we also offer Free Time Add-Ons, which are additional experiences you can get involved in during your free time on trip, which are not included in the overall price. If you’re hitting the slopes with us, we can point you in the right direction for ski & snowboard hire or lessons if you need to brush up on your skills. If you have your own kit, you’ll also need to budget any excess baggage fees, or additional transfer charges, and any tips for porters. Travel insurance and visas are also not included in the cost of your trip and need to be booked separately.

AIRFARES

visas through your travel agent or visa service before commencing your travel journey. Your passport will need to be valid for at least six months after your arrival. Without enough validity, authorities may deny your entry into a country, even if you’re only staying for a short while.

IMPORTANT 1. Visas can take up to 17 weeks & a fee is normally charged. 2. Failure to obtain all necessary visas could cause you to miss part of your trip & will result in you incurring considerable expense & inconvenience. 3. It is better to apply for all visas through your travel agent or local consular services before you leave home. Be aware that some visas can be purchased & arranged on arrival. 4. SLEEPING ACCOMMODATION: Contiki hotel accommodation is based on two people sharing (twin share). Contiki travellers share with either with someone they are travelling with or if travelling solo are matched to share in a same sex room. We stay in 3-4 star hotels, many of which are centrally located, with great facilities. Contiki provides options where possible to book a triple room to save on the cost of the trip. There are also options available to upgrade to a single room at a supplement. These are not guaranteed for every trip and are sourced only where possible. In our hostels, Contiki travellers share rooms with up to 8 people dependent on the region, we call this multishare. The rooms are same sex*. In New Zealand there are up to 8 in a room, in Australia up to 6 and in Europe there are up to 6 sharing as a maximum, often less. From time to time, we may need to increase the maximum limit in rooms, for reasons out of our control. Special Stays differ from trip to trip in terms of rooming configurations from twin share to multishare. They are accommodation authentic to the region and therefore preserve the local cultures and traditions. Camping and Glamping accommodation ranges from basic to luxurious and is mostly twin share, with triple share for glamping in the USA. AGE RESTRICTIONS Laws dealing with purchasing alcohol, entering nightclubs & bars & gambling in casinos differ around the world. For example, in Europe & Latin America, you must be 18 years of age to purchase alcohol, enter nightclubs & bars & gamble in casinos. In the United States, you must be 21 years of age to purchase alcohol, enter nightclubs & bars & gamble in casinos. Acceptable forms of identification to prove age include a valid passport or United States driver’s license. Laws in Canada differ from the United States, with 18 being the legal age in Alberta & Quebec & 19 being the legal age in British Columbia & Ontario for the above activities.

It’s essential that you take out travel insurance to cover the likes of cancellation, personal injury and medical expenses before you travel with Contiki. Internal flights as specified on individual trip itineraries are included as part of the price. We rely on international conventions regarding air travel & other transportation as specified. Through enrollment & payment for your trip you acknowledge & accept such. Individual electronic tickets may not be issued to you prior to travel due to the group nature of the air/flight booking. In such circumstances you acknowledge that by receipt of any applicable boarding pass &/or by boarding the aircraft you have accepted the airline’s terms & conditions of travel & the application of all relevant International Conventions & applicable national & international law governing air transportation.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

Visas are super important and are essential for entering certain countries. It’s up to you to be responsible for obtaining all necessary visas prior to the departure of your trip. Run this by your travel agent (if applicable) or check out a visa service well in advance to determine if/which visas you will require and how to obtain them. Remember, visas can take up to 17 weeks and a fee is normally charged, so don’t leave this one until the last minute. We recommend you apply for all

OVERLAPPING TRIPS

To offer our travellers more flexibility around when they start and how long they travel for, some of our trips are sections of larger itineraries. This means that some of them overlap - for example, some of your group may have already been travelling before you join them, and may continue travelling after your adventure has come to an end. FLEXDEPOSIT

FlexDeposit is a policy you automatically get once you’ve paid a deposit on any Contiki trip, and means that your deposit money isn’t lost if you can’t travel on your original trip as intended. Your deposit can be used up until your 36th birthday, after which time it can then be transferred for use with any other travel brand within the Travel Corporation family of brands. BOOKING SECURITY

Contiki has been running trips for young people since 1962 & in all countries where Contiki operates we fully comply with local travel industry laws. PACKING HOW MUCH LUGGAGE CAN I BRING? Luggage is restricted to one bag with a maximum size of 73cm x 50cm x 25cm (29” x 20” x 10”) with a maximum weight of 20 kg (44lbs) or 15kg on trips with internal flights, plus one small hand/day bag that can go on to the coach with you. Contiki reserves the right to refuse to accept larger suitcases or bags on the trip. Wheeled suitcases can be used on Contiki trips in Asia & Latin America.

On trips which include Flotilla Sailing or if you have booked our Inca Trail Trek or Galapagos trip a small bag suitable for the extremely limited luggage space is required. Your regular luggage will be stored during this time. A small daypack/backpack of approx 26L capacity is suggested. Some internal flights may have baggage fees which are your responsibilty along with any overweight/excess luggage fees. Some Africa trips have strict 15kg (30lbs) max limitations, & you may be charged a fee for any excess weight. No hard-sided suitcases are permitted & weight is strictly enforced. On Winter Ski trips you can bring one pair of boots & skis or snowboard. On our train trips, part of the fun is that we take public transportation everywhere. We recommend you pack light, with luggage that you are comfortable carrying or wheeling for at least 10 minutes. Your Trip Manager may suggest you store your main luggage & utilize a smaller bag for overnight rail journeys, overnight junk boat or overnight stays at guest houses. Luggage is carried at owner’s risk & baggage insurance is strongly recommended. Remember, if your trip includes a flight you are also subject to airline baggage restrictions. Contiki is not responsible for any costs incurred for overweight luggage.

FREE TIME ADD-ONS HOW DO I KNOW WHAT FREE TIME ADD-ONS ARE ON MY TRIP? Look out for the F symbol on our trip pages for the Free Time Add-Ons available on each trip. A full list of Free Time Add-Ons and approximate costs will also be emailed to you with your travel documents, around 21 days before your trip departs.

HOW DO I PAY FOR FREE TIME ADD-ONS? Payment for your Free Time Add-Ons is made direct to your Trip Manager on your trip. You can choose to pay in cash (local currency or on some trips USD cash). In New Zealand, Australia, North America & Europe you can use credit or debit card as long as they have a PIN attached. You can pay using most credit cards: Visa, Mastercard

& AMEX. Note: It’s a good idea to let your bank know you’re travelling & check if there is a daily transaction limit, so you always have access to money when you need it. Note: In a few destinations we cannot accept credit card payment. Ask your Trip Manager for details when you start your trip.

MONEY WHAT WILL I NEED MONEY FOR ON THE TRIP? In terms of spending money, you’ll need to budget for the following: • Any meals (normally lunches and dinners) that are not included. The trip page lists included meals look out for these: (B,L, D) • Any Free Time Add-Ons you would like to do on your trip. • Any additional sightseeing you plan on doing in your Free Time, that is not covered either by our Included Experiences or Free Time Add-Ons. • Any additional personal expenses. This includes alcohol, shopping, and any evening entertainment not included.

NO COMPULSORY TIPPING - REWARD ONLY EXCELLENCE! Every country in the world has different tipping policies & within service industries, tipping is common practice. All tipping is entirely optional, and not an expectation. If you feel your Contiki Team has delivered an outstanding level of service throughout your trip you may wish to tip them, but this is at your discretion, no one else’s.

HEALTH DO I NEED VACCINATIONS? It is wise to check with your medical doctor, travel agent or visit www.cdc.gov/vaccines prior to departure to see if you require any vaccinations for the countries you’ll be visiting. Don’t forget to bring with you any medication that you may require en route, such as antihistamines or antibiotics.

SAFETY INFORMATION Security is a major concern to all of us and the situation globally is constantly changing. Events around the world, coupled with the “Travel Advisories” put out by various

governments, may at times necessitate changes to the accommodations and itinerary or even trip cancelllation. Please refer to contiki.com for further information in this regard. You must accept these risks involved in travel to any country that may experience security difficulties and accept responsibility for your own travel decisions.
