Message from the Director At Contra Costa College (CCC), we strive to transform the lives of our students and the communities we serve. CCC has been a leader in workforce development and academic excellence for over 65 years, providing exemplary educational services to West County while cultivating a qualified workforce for area employers. CCC serves over 7,000 students each year and features a diverse student body (approximately 24 percent African American; 36 percent Latino; 21 percent Asian/Filipino/Pacific Islander; 11 percent White; with a growing number of international students). Student success is our primary goal at CCC; our dedicated faculty and staff specialize in helping individual students thrive in college and prepare for their future careers. CCC offers an array of support services designed to create a positive educational experience for all students, including financial assistance, enrollment services, disability support services, educational and career planning, and tutoring. What is Career Technical Education? Career Technical Education (CTE) prepares students for careers in high-demand fields by combining technical, job-specific skills with core academics.

• Choose your path

CCC offers 24 degrees and 56 certificates across 18 CTE program areas.

CTE graduates possess the knowledge and skills needed to compete in their chosen field.

• Learn relevant skills

Advisory committees composed of industry professionals, faculty, and students regularly evaluate CTE programs, ensuring they meet industry standards and teach in-demand skills.

• Transfer to a four-year college or university

Some CTE programs prepare students for transfer by offering courses that fulfill lower division requirements for a bachelor’s degree. These courses are accepted for transfer to the California State Universities and the University of California, as well as other public and private colleges and universities.

Administration of Justice The Administration of Justice program provides students with the legal, ethical and educational background necessary to pursue a career in a criminal justice-related field and/or to successfully transition into a four-year institution. The program prepares students for successful completion of the California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and Department of Corrections academies.

Pathway to Law School Sponsored by the State Bar’s Council on Access and Fairness, this statewide initiative creates a clear pathway for students to be considered for admission to six premier California law schools. Students who complete six core pathway courses will have the opportunity to earn an Associate in Science Transfer Degree in Administration of Justice and/or an Associate in Arts Transfer Degree in Political Science. Program Benefits: education planning and pre-law counseling, pre-law club, LSAT preparation assistance, waived law school application fees Participating Law Schools: Loyola Marymount University; Santa Clara University; University of California, Davis; University of California, Irvine; University of San Francisco; University of Southern California * All wages were determined using wage data reported by EMSI and EDD for Alameda and Contra Costa Counties

Automotive Services The Automotive Services program provides students with state of the art training in gas and hybrid vehicle repair and collision repair. Students can be certified through Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR) and/or Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Students who graduate from the program will be qualified for entry-level employment in the automotive and collision repair industry.

Biotechnology The Biotechnology field discovers and invents technologies such as new medicines, renewable energy, food safety, and environmental cleanup. Biotechnology courses demonstrate the use of living organisms and bioprocesses in engineering, technology, medicine, and other applications. The biotechnology program prepares students for industry careers and for transfer to four-year colleges and universities.

Business The Business program provides an overview of domestic and global business environments with a focus on the characteristics and competencies that prepare students for success in the business field. Available tracks include business administration, business management, and accounting.

Business Office Technology Today’s businesses require competent, professional office support personnel. The Business Office Technology program prepares students for careers in the office environment by teaching relevant skills while emphasizing the importance of organization, teamwork, and business communication.

Certified Nursing Assistant/ Home Health Aide The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Home Health Aide (HHA) courses prepare students to work as CNA’s and HHA’s in a variety of health care environments. Students become part of a health team under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Vocational Nurse in a health care agency. Graduates are prepared for entry level positions in the health care field.

Computer and Communications Technology The Computer and Communications Technology program trains students to understand electronic theory and principles, repair computers, connect computers to networks, and install operating systems. CCT graduates possess a broad range of marketable skills related to communication infrastructure, electrical systems, and computer networks.

Culinary Arts Management The Culinary Arts program provides students with basic knowledge and practical training in food service principles and baking fundamentals. Students practice skills and techniques in the culinary arts field through lab work and various catering experiences.

Digital Film Production The Digital Film Production program prepares students for entry-level employment in the media production industry. Early Childhood Education The Early Childhood Education program prepares students to provide exemplary care and education to young children by being reflective caregivers who understand the theoretical principles and practices of child development. Graduates of the program are able to develop age-appropriate curriculum and interact with young children using developmentally appropriate methods and techniques.

Emergency Medical Services The Emergency Medical Services program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to become certified as an Emergency Medical Technician in the State of California. Forklift, Logistics, Operations, and Warehouse (F.L.O.W.) F.L.O.W is a nine-week training program that prepares students for entry-level employment in a warehouse environment. Students receive an introduction to basic forklift safety and warehouse operations, as well as training in computer literacy, professional development, and college success. Graduates earn OSHA 10 and HAZMAT certifications. Job placement assistance is available.

Health and Human Services The Health and Human Services program prepares students to serve individuals and families in need of assistance. The human services profession is dedicated to providing services that promote the well-being of those served. Students have the opportunity to earn the alcohol and drug counselor certification offered through the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CAADAC).

Journalism The Journalism program provides each student with the journalistic skills, ethics and educational background necessary to pursue a career in the journalism profession and/or to successfully transfer to a four-year university program. Medical Assisting and Office Technician The Medical Assisting and Office Technician program prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary in the Medical Assisting profession. Medical assistants work in hospitals, clinics, and doctors’ offices assisting with clinical and/or administrative tasks.

Nursing The Nursing program prepares students to take the National Council Licensure Examination Registered Nurse (NCLEXRN). Students who pass the NCLEX-RN will be qualified for entry level positions in health care facilities.

Pre-Allied Health The Pre-Allied Health certificate provides classroom and hands-on laboratory experience for students to master skills and knowledge in biological sciences. Students who achieve this certificate will have completed the basic prerequisite courses required to apply for transfer programs in a variety of allied health fields, including nursing, physician's assistant, radiography, sonography, nuclear medicine, dental hygiene, pharmacy, clinical laboratory assistant, occupational therapy, veterinary technology, and related fields.

Real Estate The Real Estate Program introduces students to the commercial and personal aspects of accumulating and transferring real estate while preparing them to take the California Department of Real Estate Salesperson Examination.

Financial Aid and Scholarships Financial assistance is available to help students cover the costs of higher education. To determine your eligibility for specific programs, submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov (if you are a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or other eligible non-citizen) or the California DREAM Act Application at www.caldreamact.org (if you are an AB540eligible student). Grants are awarded on the basis of financial need and do not have to repaid. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic criteria or any combination of academics, financial need, leadership positions, campus or community activities and work experience. For scholarship information, go to www.contracosta.edu/scholarships.

Federal Student Loans must be repaid over a period of time, usually after a student leaves school. Students must be a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or other eligible non-citizen to qualify for Federal Student Loans. Federal Work-Study helps students gain valuable work experience while assisting them with paying for educational expenses. Students who qualify for work-study earn their award through part-time employment on campus in various departments.

California State Aid Programs The state of California offers aid programs to California residents attending California colleges/universities who meet specific eligibility guidelines. The Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOGW) waives enrollment fees for students who complete the FAFSA or Dream Act Application and meet certain income-related requirements. Cal Grants offer cash aid assistance to help pay for education-related fees and other expenses. Award amounts vary based on the type of Cal Grant received. Apply by completing the FAFSA or Dream Act Application in addition to the GPA Verification Form. For more information, visit www.calgrant.org.

Where do I start at Contra Costa College?

Steps

to

Success

Step 1 – Submit an Application for Admission Go to www.contracosta.edu to complete your application online. Click on the “Register” button.

Step 2 – Apply for Financial Aid If you need help paying for school you have

several options. You may be eligible for a BOG fee waiver or other state and federal money to help you pay for your classes, books and supplies. To apply go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and follow the instructions to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. You can also just submit an application for a fee waiver at https://secure.cccapply.org/BOG_Waiver. You will be notified via your college email (@insight.4cd. edu) if you qualify for the fee waiver.

Step 3 – Complete the Assessment Make an appointment to take a math and

English or English as a Second Language (ESL) assessment. This will help ensure you are choosing the best classes for you. Register online for an appointment to take the assessment at http://contracosta.edu/go/?assessment-appointment. If you need a refresher, take a look at the practice questions posted online at www.contracosta.edu, click on student services and choose assessment.

Step 4 – Enroll in COUN-108 or ESL-108* Contra Costa College has a

comprehensive orientation and educational planning program offered through our COUN-108 course. Explore your career goals and learn about important campus services. You will be given priority registration once you complete the course.

Step 5 – Register for Classes and Pay Your Fees Log in to your student account (@ InSite Portal) to register for classes using WebAdvisor. You can use the “search and register” or “express registration” features to enroll in your classes.

Step 6 – Get Your Student ID Visit the Welcome/Transfer Center in the

Student Services Building (SSC) Rm 111. Bring your current class schedule and a government issued photo or high school ID card.
