Hello from Mackenzie It seems really fitting that this magazine is all about the electric music scene in Greenville. I’ve spent the last five and a half years of my life dedicated to seeing shows in Greenville, watching the scene blossom into what it is now and being excited for what’s to come. From spending every weekend at The Tipsy Teapot, to late night Psylo Joe sets at Crossbones Tavern (there are too many to count for me) to seeing experimental acts at Trollingwood Taproom and Brewery, this area is a mecca for some really great music that unfortunately people do not and might not ever realize. But there are folks who do. There are folks who really, really get it. And they have created one of my favorite weekends for music out of the whole year. It’s called Spazz Fest. And that’s what this magazine is about. It’s also my last magazine for The Daily Reflector, which is why it’s fitting. The music scene in Greenville has tremendously shaped my five and half years here into something that I will forever cherish. This is my thank you. So, if you’re around on March 20-24, go see a show. I promise there is something on this line up that will give you the same electric feeling these five years have given me. I want to take this time to say thank you to the bands that have given me some of my favorite memories, to Greenville for welcoming me with such open arms, to Mixer Magazine for giving the space and platform to continually be creative and loud and lastly, to those who supported my vision for this magazine and my belief that Greenville is a really rad place to call home. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am undoubtedly indebted. Until next time

BY MACKENZIE TEWKSBURY mtewksbury@reflector.com The Mixer staff hung out with the Greenville band JIMMY to talk about their music and their upcoming performance at Spazz Fest X. The band, much like their surf rock music, was high energy and fun to be around. Mark, Nick, Connor and Will’s musical talents on the guitar, bass, vocals and drums all come together for a vibe you will not want to miss.

Q: How did you guys start? A: We’ve played music together for a long time. Most of us have known each since we were kids. We lived in the same neighborhood… Rock Band was a big inspiration. Except for Will [drummer].His official day is actually today. Short answer is we’ve all just known each other a really long time. And Rock Band of course.

Q: Where are some of your musical influences? A: Nickelback. Evanescence. LL Cool J. Just kidding! In all seriousness, Weezer is a really big one. I would say individually we all have really different music tastes but I think they all have some common denominators. The Foo Fighters. I hate saying it but Nirvana. But then newer surf punk bands out of L.A. like Waves and Together Pangea. We’ve also really big on the Australian scene like Violent SoHo.

Q: What does your brand sound like? A: Loud. It’s so loud you can see it. It’s high energy. Action. Before I started playing with this band, I remember being in the crowd and I had to stand because they literally had mosh pits in the middle of Pitt Street Brewing Company for the whole entire show. It’s really high energy. We smash guitars. It’s loud, high energy, D.I.Y. Q: Are you guys excited for Spazz Fest? A: Oh, yeah. We’ve been looking forward to this Spazz Fest for a while. It’s Spazz 10, man. It’s a big one. Last time we played Spazz Fest it was like 4 in the afternoon. Our official Spazz set was an opener and then we played a secret one late at night.. We’ve been planning on this performance for a while... When we did our tour last year we got up to Jeff’ s place in Philly before he moved back here and we started doing a lot of planning. It’s been in the works for a while. Spazz Fest is like less camping on acid and more walking around Greenville at 2 a.m. really drunk. JIMMY performs at Spazz Fest X March 21 at Pitt Street Brewing Company.
