WELCOME TO THE MID ULSTER SPORTS ARENA The Mid Ulster Sports Arena is a state of the art sports facility designed to meet the requirements of a wide range of different sports and individuals. Since opening in 2004, the Mid Ulster Sports Arena has embarked on a programme of continuous improvement, including the development of new and unique sports programmes and extensive facility improvements with the latest addition being a large indoor training area and six changing room pavilion. MUSA as it is more popularly known is now recognised as the premier Centre of Excellence for the Mid Ulster area.

The Mid Ulster Sports Arena is home to six outdoor pitches; four sand mattress grass pitches two of which are floodlit and two third generation synthetic turf pitches – also floodlit, capable of playing gaelic games, rugby and soccer.

SPORTS PAVILION 1 The large modern Sports Pavilion at MUSA is complete with: • • • • • • • •

Reception area Eight changing rooms Officials room Toilets & shower facilities Office accommodation Kitchen Parking for over 200 vehicles Coach parking

The Sports Pavilion also houses the Strength and Conditioning Room. This high spec facility provides for the all-round physical preparation of athletes and teams allowing them to maximise their sporting potential. The facility is serviced by a Strength and Conditioning Coach whose role is to assist each athlete to progressively achieve their optimal performance.

SPORTS PAVILION 2 Located adjacent to the Indoor Physical Activity Area this building is complete with: • • • • •

Six changing rooms (each with full disabled access) Two officials rooms Toilets and shower facilities Kitchen Committee room – suitable for seminars and meetings


Mid Ulster Sports Arena

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING ROOM Designated as a Performer Development Centre by the Sports Institute Northern Ireland this facility provides for the physical preparation of athletes & teams and is intended to compliment the sports specific skills development of players and athletes. Equipment includes two power stations, 12 specific strength machines, and racks of barbells and dumbbells.

MID ULSTER MASSAGE Mid Ulster Massage offers a range of treatments to aid recovery and improve performance including deep tissue/sports massage, kinesio taping and also sports injury treatments. Male and female therapist available by appointment Monday to Friday from 3pm to 9pm. For bookings contact Lucas on 07907 256 600.

INDOOR ARENA & PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AREA The Indoor Physical Activity area has taken sports facilities in Mid Ulster into the 21st Century with a unique indoor arena offering users two different surfaces under one roof. The arena enables a range of sports to be played at the same time, with three indoor courts available to play disability sports, gaelic games, rugby and soccer. Measuring 95m x 25m the Indoor Physical Activity Area has two different surfaces: COURT ONE (35m x 21m) • • • •

Traditional sports hall floor Suitable for playing netball, five aside football, olympic handball Ideal for disability sport activities such as Boccia This area is also suitable for sports related birthday parties

COURT TWO AND THREE (60m x 25m) • • • • •

3G surface Suitable for playing gaelic games, rugby and soccer Small sided games Match practice Fitness training

The design of the indoor arena means it is perfect for booking by schools for PE and after school activities, corporate team building events, coach education, community events such as fun days as well as blitzes and tournaments in a range of sports. It is also perfect for football birthday parties. This facility has priority booking status for women and girls, the elderly and those with a disability and is fully accessible to wheelchair users and special needs groups. ENDURANCE AREA The Endurance Area is a multi sport area capable of accommodating a variety of games suchas soccer, netball, tennis and basketball as well as general fitness conditioning. The area consists of: • • •

70 metre sprint track which can accommodate speed, agility and quickness exercises and can be used for fitness conditioning. Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) Synthetic Five Aside Court

MUSA PARKRUN This 5Km timed run takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am from the Mid Ulster Sports Arena. Anyone can take part and best of all its free to join, the only thing organisers ask is that you register before your first run and don’t forget to bring a printed copy of your barcode, if you forget this then your race won’t be timed. You can register for MUSA Parkrun at www.parkrun.org.uk/musacookstown. Everyone taking part runs for their own enjoyment so no matter what your pace please do come along and join in. Parkrun is entirely organised by volunteers so come along and show your support.

Multi Use Games Area The Multi Use Games Area can cater for a wide range of sporting demands, among the most commonly played sports on MUGA’s are tennis, netball, basketball, soccer, five a side football and hockey. The area is fully floodlit and enclosed with high fencing.

Synthetic FIVE A side Court The five a side court is fully floodlit and enclosed with high fencing. It is available throughout the year for block or casual bookings. The area can also be hired by groups or individuals for sports football themed events or birthday parties.

TENNIS COURTS Our two full size tennis courts are fully floodlit and are available for hire throughout the year for individual and group use. Tennis coaching camps are held throughout the year for junior and senior levels which aim to improve skills and provide hours of fun.

OUTDOOR FITNESS EQUIPMENT The Cross Country running track circles the perimeter of the MUSA site. It is 1400 metres in length with a tarmac surface providing a much more user friendly surface for the many walkers and joggers who regularly use the track. It can be used free of charge however a small fee is payable for anyone wishing to shower after a walk or run. Designated as a Highway to Health walk its benefits include: • • • • • •

Accessible on a daily basis Full street lighting Monday to Friday until 10pm Outdoor Fitness Equipment designed for all ability levels Away from the town fumes and traffic No dogs policy Safe, secure environment for lone walkers/runners as well as groups

OUTDOOR FITNESS EQUIPMENT In addition ten stations of Outdoor Fitness Equipment have been installed to allow users to obtain a complete work out. The equipment includes leg press, chest press, sit up bench, pull down, dips/leg raises and is designed to be used by all ability levels from beginner to the more experienced.

SPORTS SPECIFIC DEVELOPMENT OFFICERS Based at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena are two sports specific development officers for Gaelic Games Promotion and IFA Grassroots Development. They are involved in the delivery of schools programmes, small sided games and club development for their specific sports. The Mid Ulster Sports Arena is also a designated IFA Centre of Excellence for boys and girls.

SPORTS DEVELOPMENT The Mid Ulster Sports Arena is also responsible for the delivery of Sports Development activities within the area. A dedicated team are responsible for the development and delivery of a comprehensive range of programmes and initiatives throughout the year which include: • • • • •

Twilight Soccer Afterschool’s programmes Holiday schemes Community sport projects Parkrun

In addition Officers can provide advice and support to clubs and individuals on coach education programmes, Clubmark and funding opportunities.

ACTIVE COMMUNITIES Funded by Sport Northern Ireland, ‘Active Communities’ is a programme that aims to increase participation in sport and physical recreation in communities throughout NI, especially amongst underrepresented groups including women and girls, people with a disability and older people. Mid Ulster Sports Arena is home to eight coaches that work across the Cookstown, Dungannon & South Tyrone and Magherafelt areas to deliver a range of sporting and recreational activities across the three areas. These activities include: Multi Skills, GAA, Rugby, Hockey, Swimming, Soccer, Racquet Sports, Netball, Disability Sports, and Physical Activity for Older People.
