From the Leadership
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7
With all that is transpiring in the world at the moment, it ’s not hard to get swept up in it all. We are seeing an unprecedented global response to the COVID-19 virus which is impacting the stock market, international and domestic tourism, the sporting and entertainment industries, businesses and employment. It has changed the way we live, the way we shop, the way we socialise, and even the way we think. This turbulent time reminds me of the passage in Scripture where Jesus’ disciples were caught out in a storm. Their intent was to take a calm boat ride across the lake, but things didn’t quite go to plan. In Matthew 8:24, a furious storm swept across the lake and waves came crashing over the boat. I would imagine that this would have been terrif ying for the disciples who must have felt incredibly vulnerable, exposed to the elements and lacking any t ype of control over the situation. I can see them now frantically tr ying to empt y the boat of water, recover
the oars which had slipped overboard, and attempt to get the tiller under control. And where was Jesus found while all this was happening? Sleeping soundly on the boat… He had the peace of God inside His heart and mind and was not at all concerned with what was transpiring around Him. The disciples were not so confident. They cried out to Him, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown.” We too, can feel over whelmed with feelings of hopelessness and uncertaint y about what will happen next which can then trigger fear and anxiet y. Jesus brought their minds back to Him. He replied, “ You of little faith, why are you so afraid? ” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm (v26 & 27). I encourage you to also bring your minds back to Jesus during this uncertain time, knowing that He holds ever y thing in the palm of His hand, especially you... Trevor Norman Principal

Welcome
Staff News
NEW STAFF MEMBERS KIARRA SMITH (ADMIN ASSISTANT) I’m the new administration assistant here at CCC. I’ve loved it so far – there’s a beautiful family atmosphere and the school’s Christ-centred focus is very evident in every aspect of college life. A fun fact about me: I run a business on the side called Redeeming Beauty as a style coach, helping women transform their outer appearance to reflect their inner beauty.
AUDREY REYNDERS (PRIMARY TEACHER) CCC is an answer to my prayers to teach in an excellent school where Jesus is the reason for all that we do. Mostly I love the genuine passion for God and people displayed by every staff member I have met. Gathering around God’s Word and praying before school and during lessons with students is THE BEST! Lastly, I would not be honest if I did not admit how much I love having a coffee van outside MY classroom! FUN FACT: I have climbed to the top of the Eiffel Tower and I loved that experience. FAMILY: I am married to my wonderful husband of 23 years, Rodney, and we have a son we are so proud of in Yr 12 named Darian and a daughter, who delights us, named Cassia and she is in Yr 10. DANIEL TAN (SECONDARY TEACHER) I’m a junior high and senior high Science teacher at CCC. I love the staff support, encouragement and devotions. I can speak 4 languages and 2 dialects, including English.
LEE BERRILL (SECONDARY TEACHER) I teach Yr 11 & 12 Outdoor Recreation Studies, Yr 9 & 10 Outdoor Education, and Yr 7, 9 & 10 Health & Physical Education. I’m also involved in the Duke Of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The staff and students are friendly and supportive, and the Outdoor Education facilities are absolutely first rate. The CLIMBING WALL, the MOUNTAIN BIKE TRACK and fleet of high quality bikes, and the NATURE SPACE complete with a water source that we can canoe on are incredible assets to have here at school. I enjoy surfing, long distance trail running and mountain bike riding.
PAUL SUFFOLK (BUSINESS MANAGER) My role at CCC is the Business Manager. I love the CCC community. It’s a great friendly place to work, friendly staff and families. I have a car restoration project underway, an old Ford Falcon Ute that is the same age as me.

RHIANNON CONNOR (PRIMARY TEACHER) I am a part time teacher with our amazing Year 1’s. I love how community minded the school is and making every person feel a part of our CCC community, whether they are a parent, child or employee. I love sewing and making things for my kids. Most weekends you will find me behind a sewing machine or hanging out with my cows on the farm..
JENDY SMITH (PRIMARY ARTS TEACHER) My role involves the following: Primary Arts Teacher - Music, Dance and Drama, Instrumental Music Coordinator and Instrumental Immersion Program Coordinator. I love that CCC is a family. It is such a beautiful community and I am so delighted to be a part of it. I also really appreciate the encouragement that I have received from parents, students, and staff in my role. I am a Pastor’s wife with 5 amazing children, and we have been married since CCC began way back in 1992!
STEPHEN HYETT (PRIMARY HPE TEACHER) I am the lower Primary HPE Teacher. My favourite thing about CCC is the Christian, supportive nature of the school in this friendly, caring community. I’m a backing singing, bass and guitar playing tennis lover who watches the footy while eating rich dark chocolate and caramel slice, whilst playing chess.
ROBIN SHEARER (SECONDARY TEACHER) I am a HPE, Industrial and Outdoor Ed teacher. I am also the Year 4-6 year level coordinator, responsible for the health and wellbeing of these students. I enjoy the ability to integrate the gospel into education, enabling us to teach the whole person, academic, social, emotional and spiritual. I am a father of two and an avid rock climber.
BLAINE PACKER (SECONDARY TEACHER) I am a Secondary Teacher in English and Humanities. I love the community spirit of CCC – you can feel the support students, families and teachers give to each other as we try to encourage the best from each other. I’ve run an IT-related YouTube channel for almost 10 years, I play tennis, and caramel lattes are my coffee order.
STEVEN ROLLS (SECONDARY TEACHER) My role is to teach English to Year 7A, Year 8A, Year 8B and Year 9B. While I have been teaching for many years, I have found the staff at CCC to be friendly, helpful and understanding. The students are often very focussed and this makes the role of teaching a little less challenging. I like the way discipline functions as a whole-ofschool and cooperative system with the student and parents. I enjoy discussing teaching methods and systems with my second son who is also a teacher of English. CCC CONNECT | Excellence

News & Events
GYMPIE PRIMARY LEADER’S DAY 2020 The 7th annual Gympie Primary Leader’s Day (GPLD) was hosted again by CCC in late February. It continues to be an extremely successful event, with over 240 students attending from 14 schools. The keynote speaker, John Zeckendorf, brought a lot of energy and passion to his inspirational presentation for the students. He spoke on the theme of ‘No Limits’ and encouraged students to challenge the limits they place on their own thoughts and beliefs. The event benefits students and schools as it’s an opportunity to get hands-on, practical learning around what it means to be a leader in your family, school and community, what it means to be part of a team, how to communicate well and how to set goals without giving up. Popular interactive activities included the climbing wall, canoeing and obstacle challenge. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out and especially to our major sponsors - Kingdom Financial and Gympie Regional Council.

BUILDING PROJECTS
The Ring Road project The ring road project with construction commencing in Term 2 will help alleviate afternoon traffic congestion at CCC. The project will connect the top roundabout near the ELC via a newly constructed road at the back of the school property and along the oval to the roundabout at the school entrance. This will allow smooth flow of traffic during this peak time. Traffic will be controlled by boom gates during school hours for student safety.

SOLOMON ISLANDS MOTU FEAST
Our Solomon Islands Motu Feast was a great success and we are very grateful for the support, prayer and generous donations from our CCC community. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic the 2020 Ministry Trip had to be cancelled. We are truly thankful for the opportunity we had to bond as a team and raise funds for much needed projects overseas. We want to assure you that the funds raised will be used to support the communities we had planned to visit in the Solomon Islands. Discussions are already underway as to how best to achieve this.
See what great love the Father ather has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! 1 John 3:1

Focus on the Family
50 QUESTIONS FOR THE DINNER TABLE BY CAROL CUPPY As parents, our schedules are usually packed with things to do and places to go. It can be so easy to rush from one thing to the next, causing us to miss out on opportunities to connect with our children. Talking to our kids is a chance to get to know the depths of who God made them to be and to watch them learn and grow. Having intentional conversations with our children demonstrates steadfast love and encourages them to share their triumphs and challenges with us. It is a beautiful opportunity for us as parents to show our children that we are listening to them and are genuinely interested in what they have to say. Asking our children questions is a wonderful way to teach them and help them grow. Inviting your kids into conversation can create a solid foundation of trust and love for the rest of their lives. One of the best times to start these conversations is at the dinner table. Starting a conversation with your kids, however, can sometimes be easier said than done. Many questions that parents ask their kids can easily be shut down 9
with a simple “yes” or “no” answer. It’s important that we ask our children open ended questions that leave plenty of room for them to answer and elaborate. It’s also important to make the questions fun and interactive. One way to do this might be to get a large jar. Have your children help decorate it. Then, on colorful slips of paper, write out all of the questions you can think of that might start a good conversation. Fill the jar with the questions and at dinner time each night, have your children take turns drawing a question out of the jar. The question of the night can then become a family discussion. This can be a fun and interactive way to get your children excited and engaged about having conversations with the whole family. Remember, the sky is the limit when it comes to what questions you might choose to ask your kids. The questions can be tailored to your child’s individual interests. For instance, if they are interested in superheroes, or certain book/movie characters, or cars — you can word your questions to reflect that interest.

Mrs Walt had a private Science and Technologies lesson from some talented Yr 3 students in Term 1. The girls each used their knowledge of the design process to create a simple machine demonstrating forces (Push and Pull). Maddy, Sienna, Imogen and Piper were able to explain their learning and describe the improvements they each made along the way in creating beautiful and functional pinball machines. Well done Mrs R and our Yr 3s!

Prep A&B in Term 1!
Jeremiah – “I like school and learning.” John – “I like going to Prep A in investigation time.” Emily D – “I like making stuff when the teacher says it’s investigation time.” Elias – “I love coming to school, it is so much fun.” Isabel – “I love being a police officer. I make sure no one is running inside or being unsafe.”
What an amazing first term it has been in Prep. The two Prep rooms have been humming with excitement, full of curiosity and have seen a huge engagement in learning from students. After introducing the Walker Learning Approach this year, it is very evident that the Preps love the interest-focused and hands on learning. Four out of five mornings the Prep students begin their day with a Tune In session and then an Investigation Time. During Investigation Time, students are guided and scaffolded by their teachers to help engage and setup their learning for the rest of the day. The relationships that have formed not only between the teachers and students, but the students and their peers, has been such a delight. There has been so much development in their foundational social skills, thinking skills and in literacy and numeracy. They have grown a love of coming to school, sharing interests, learning about God and making great friends.

“I genuinely enjoyed and appreciate my experience completing the Roadcraft driver training program. Subsequently, I feel more adequately equipped in reacting to and dealing with potential road hazards, having also learnt many visual and awareness techniques to avoid such incidents occurring. These included steering grip, driving with your eyes and road position in relation to other drivers. All staff members and instructors were also very friendly and trusting considering our being behind the wheel of their cars.” - Kate Davis
I think that Ukulele music reminds me of daddy. Why I think that is because daddy is always having adventures without me knowing!! That’s what the music sounds like to me. Dad is one Aussie Aussie person. adventures.
He’s always in for a challenge and
Dad is one of the bestest dads in the world. Everybody knows that dads are always more adventurous than mums. My dad always is here for me and my family!

Each object, no matter how innocuous, becomes imbued with meaning and significance when we learn a little about its history, how it was made and who made it and even how the object came to be in the Wilcox home. A huge thank you to Mark and Sandy for their time.
