Distance Education

During our Senior Phase of Learning we seek to support the individual nature of students’ SET Plans and resultant subject choices. Through our partnership with Riverside Christian College, students entering the senior phase of learning are offered additional online subject options through the flexible learning arrangements which distance education provides.

Riverside Distance Education began in 1990 with the goal of introducing and leading the way in providing flexible learning programs to Australian students. Flexible Learning is currently delivered through a variety of interactive teaching methods, designed to support smooth two-way communication between teachers and students and includes: • Online course space - through Riverside’s Learning Management System (LMS) • Video tutorials and explicit lessons • Discussion forums, blogs etc. • Interactive learning objects, quizzes and other LMS functionalities • Live tutorial sessions • Emails • Telephone

Students considering the subjects listed below should discuss these with Mrs Sue Waltisbuhl (Director of Teaching and Learning). CCC will assist with the flexible learning enrolment process. Riverside Christian College advises pre-requisite skills and practical considerations for specific subjects. Senior Phase Subject Fees through Riverside Distance Education will be met in partnership between Parents and Cooloola Christian College. CCC covers subject fees = $700/unit, Enrolling Student fees $100/unit plus $100 RCC enrolment fee (once only). A Flexible Learning Agreement, provided to each Student (and Parents), will outline expected commitments for the duration of the subject course.

Students undertaking flexible learning courses recognise the strong commitment to independent study and time management involved, like that required for successful completion of any VET course or Traineeship program. Enrolments in Riverside Distance Education courses will be supported by Cooloola Christian College through staffing in our Independent Learning Centre. All flexible learning courses will be studied within the existing subject lines and college timetable arrangements.
