How are you living this great professional moment with the release of your single, “Show me the Money”? Beukes (Singer): Right now, I’m sat at home, on the island of Menorca, Spain. As far as ‘great and professional’ goes I don’t know. We’ve been in quarantine for 10 weeks and only just came out. Still adjusting to the real world, I guess.

How long have you worked on it? Beukes (Singer): It came a long way actually. The original written as a topline for a Hip Hop track with a friend and sat as a demo for years on a hardrive. Then Chris revived it as a Livingston track. All in about 4 years I’d say. Do you remember your approach to the world of music? Beukes (Singer): To be honest no, I don’t have an approach. I just tend to do what feels good, but I suppose that’s what we all do.

What things or people do you consider as your biggest influences, especially for this single? Beukes (Singer): At the time I was listening to a new artist at the time called Leftboy, we were signed to the same management. I loved his melodic rap style.

Since you created your band, what have been the biggest difficulties encountered along the way? Beukes (Singer): I’d say time. There is always too little or too much of it. Waiting around for weeks on end at the studio only to be rushed somewhere we should have been at yesterday.

What other projects are you currently working on? Can you tell us more about it? Beukes (Singer): I’m halfway through recording a solo record. It’s maybe the best thing I got out of being in quarantine. Almost done!

To all band members: What has been the song (by another band / artist) that has marked you the most and why? Beukes (Singer): An Afrikaans artist I listened to endlessly at uni. Johannes Kerkorrel. He was my hero. Chris (guitar): Depeche Mode, “In Your Room”. I had it on repeat while I was very ill and in bed for months. The song basically carried me through those times.

What would you advise to young people who are starting in this complex world of music? Never burn bridges, ever.
