SEAN NOLAN ANTHE HEARTMAKERS
How are you living this great professional moment with the release of your new single “Or, the Whale”? We’re just very excited to be receiving such positive feedback for the track and the video. Aside from that we’re working on planning our record release show in Brooklyn at Knitting Factory 4/15 and working on recording the next record.
How was your approach to the world of music? We all listen to an array of different styles of music. I’m constantly looking for new sounds and new artists to listen to. While my roots are in 90s punk bands and classic rock n’ roll I am always interested in incorporating different sounds. As far as my approach goes, I write songs on the acoustic guitar, take them to my friend Chris (lead guitar, vocals) and my brother Kyle (synth, keys) and see what they bring to the table. Then we get Matt and Kenny in there for some bass and drums.

What things or people do you consider as your greatest influences? I’d have to say my two greatest influences are Tom Petty and Ray Bradbury. What is the greatest satisfaction that music has given you? Being able to make a record with my friends is the best feeling in the world. There is nothing quite like watching a song grow to its full potential.
Since you created your band, what have been the biggest difficulties encountered along the way? Scheduling is tough, for sure. Money is tricky. I’d have to say those have been the toughest things so far.
To all band members: What has been the song that has marked you the most and why? Song of ours? On this record? I’ll go ahead and say most likely a song about a man mourning his wife called “Isabel Dubs”.
What other projects are you currently working on? Can you tell us more about it? Currently we’re working on an LP tentatively titled Dandelion Wine.
What would you advise to young people who are starting in this complex world of music? If it’s important to you, gives you purpose, don’t quit.
