SITE PLAN 1:500 PROJECT DESCRIPTION Libraries have always been important civic buildings, providing a gateway to the world of knowledge and bridging the gap between those who can afford access and those who cannot. This role is vigorously challenged by ever-growing accessibility and development of informational technologies and the enormous potential and diversity of the virtual world. We designed Varna Library asa building and a space, which becomes an institution for information storage and exchange where all contemporary forms of media—new and old—are presented equally, as an open public venue and a meeting room in town. It has become rather a spatial and virtual network of mutually reinforcing and evolving, but mostly interconnected infrastructures —architectural, technological, social, epistemological etc. Perhaps like many other public rooms in the town, Varna Library becomes sequential part of minor and major routes of public spaces, and even more - becomes a cultural epicenter for the community. This potential is further accelerated and even more so in this particular project.
