What is Fly Fishing

Fly shing is a very complicated way to sh, there are so many di erent factors that play into the set up.

Fly shing is di erent from many other types of shing It's not just to catch sh but it’s an art form. Fly Fishing is a type of shing mainly meant for fun. Fly shing is done by casting with a fairly long pole with a line and a y on the end of that line. Most people would say this type of shing is way more fun because instead of throwing out a line and then reeling it in you get to watch the sh swim up to the y and will jump out of the water to grab the y.

All About Lines

The rst aspect to Fly Fishing is the type of line you use which is surprisingly a very complicated task. You can’t just use some random rope you have because the sh would be able to see this random looking rope with a y on it. The y shing line is very light compared to other types of shing. Lines come in weights ranging from 1-14 1 being the lightest 14 being the heaviest. The weight of the line all depends on what type of sh you use, you can refer to the chart for what type of line would be best for you. There are three main di erences between lines other than weights, Floating Fly lines, Sinking Fly lines, and Sinking Tip Fly lines. Floating Fly Lines are the most common type of line, which is exactly what it sounds like it oats on top of the water. Sinking lines surprise they sink, but sinking tip line half of it sinks and the other half oats.

The second component of Fly Fishing is the rod and reel. Reels are meant to hold and store line while you're shing to let you cast with so you can get the y far away. Fly shing reels are all mostly the same with some slight di erences. Most y reels have numbers 1 through 5 which helps you know what weight your reel can handle. Fly rods on the other hand are more complicated. Most y rods are anywhere from 8 to 9 feet long, and are made of out either graphite, berglass, or bamboo. Even if you change the smallest thing it can either make your shing way better or way worse. Too small of a pole and it wont bend the right way and too large of a pole will bend too much.

All About Flies

The last main component to y shing which is probably the most complicated part is the y. There are 3 main types of ies, dry ies, nymphs, and streamers.Dry ies are shed on or at the surface of water and typically imitate adult or emerging insects like may ies, caddis ies, stone ies, midges, grasshoppers, and damsel ies. Dry ies oat on top of the water and are very fun to watch because sh will jump out of the water to grab this one. Wet Flies sit just under the surface and mimic what a y being submerged in water would look like.Wet ies are shed below the surface, and are tied to imitate things like pupal- and nymph-stage aquatic insects, scuds (freshwater shrimp), sh eggs, worms, and cray sh.Streamers are larger wet ies tied to imitate bait sh, leeches, cray sh, and other small animals. Streamers are typically shed like lures
