Colony Lane Non-Profit Senior Apartments Newsletter The Leasing Committee is a group of volunteers that is willing to help process future applicants for the building. They attend a workshop to learn how to do the job in accordance with HUD guidelines & Fair Housing laws. They set up interview dates and times and interview applicants. They encourage others to become involved with their future home. The Décor Committee is made up of volunteers that help to choose the colors and furniture for the offices and common areas. They also help to select colors for the countertops, carpet, floor tile, and anything else that may come up during construction. The Bylaws & House Rules Committee is composed of a group of volunteers that propose rules to the co-op. They can use sister co-ops’ rules as a guideline. Ultimately, all the resident members will have a chance to vote on the proposed rules. The Marketing Committee recommends publications for placing ads in local papers.

Third Interested Persons Meeting for the Co-op The third “interested persons meeting” for Colony Lane Senior Non-Profit Co-op Apartments was held at the Robert Bowen Senior Center on February 20, 2014. Everyone on the waitlist was invited to attend. The 12 waitlisted applicants who attended were presented with a heartwarming video called, “It Takes All of Us,” featuring what co-op living is all about. Also, it was explained how the rent is structured and the application process was reviewed during the meeting. Everyone was informed that we are shooting for mid to late summer to send out applications to begin this process, depending on how construction at the site progresses. Co-op name suggestions were accepted and they will be voted on at the upcoming Thursday, March 20 meeting of interested persons, which will be held at the Robert Bowen Senior Center, 52 Bagley, Pontiac. We will meet at 10:30 am, as usual. Meetings will continue to be held the 3th Thursday of every month. We hope you continue to attend our monthly meetings. It is the best way to participate in the decision-making process, the cornerstone of the cooperative principles. It’s also the best way to stay informed about the progress of the building and get all your questions answered about how this co-op will operate. If you have any questions regarding Colony Lane, please contact Peter Lillie at (586) 753-9024.
