Jody Allen is the Owner and Founder of the facebook phenomenon, Stay at Home Mum. Jody started the facebook page from her home in Gympie in 2011 when she was made redundant whilst on maternity leave and had a mere $50 a week to spend on groceries. She started Stay at Home Mum so that she could share all her tips and hints on living simply. She wanted to make ‘being frugal’ cool!

Stay at Home Mum now has 472, 806 facebook followers and employs 40 staff in locations around Australia and one overseas.

Residents in Pomona will once again be able to help Clean Up with Noosa Integrated Catchment Association Inc (NICA), who organise CUAD in Noosa.

Coordinator Joe Jurisevic and his volunteer team are certain that the community will once again be one of the best supported sites in the Noosa region. “It’s obvious that the residents in Pomona are very proud of their town with the numbers that volunteer each year. Pomona Community House is still going strong This year the Pomona & District Community House will have been open for an incredible 20 years. We exist because we believe that “community” is more than a word; it is a sense of belonging and sharing.

The Community House is a not for profit organisation dedicated to enriching the quality of life for people of all ages by providing new learning experiences and a place to meet and share information on local issues.

We also provide computer training and internet access, recreation programs, affordable social services & workshops.

Our rooms for hire offer a place to gather that enhance social activity and building friendships. Here are a few of the programs/activities that we provide or are connected with, throughout the year:

Over the next few weeks the Community House will be undertaking a review of our Strategic Plan. NOOSA COUNCIL NEWS Survey to identify residents’ Dog Registration news and information needs Home Inspections

Residents are being asked how they’d best like to stay up to date with Noosa Council news and affairs and participate in Council decision-making.

All dogs over the age of three months must be registered with their local council in accordance with the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008.

An online communications survey, launched this week, includes questions about the types of media residents access, their social media use and whether Council could improve the way it currently communicates.

Registration must be renewed annually and dogs must wear a registration tag issued by the council. Registration assists council to identify impounded or found dogs and reunite them with their owners. It also provides data that helps ensure appropriate services such as waste bags, litter bins and off leash areas are provided where they are needed. Dog registration fees are used to inform and educate the community about dogs.

Puppies under six months of age are registered free of charge. Owners have until the registration expiry period of 30 September to desex the dog to claim lower registration fees.

“Residents’ feedback will help Council better understand how our community wishes to access Council information.

We aim to make sure we’re communicating as effectively and costefficiently as we can,” said Community Engagement Manager Debra Bambrook.

“Whether residents source their news from the local paper over a morning coffee, or by surfing the web, social media or via TV and radio, we’re asking residents to tell us so we can make sure we’re doing our best to reach the community through the most appropriate channels.”

Residents who are on Council’s ratepayer email database will soon receive an invitation to take part in the short, five-minute survey.

Residents who don’t receive an email can fill out the survey online via the link at http://yoursay.noosa.qld.gov.au.

Dog Registration Home Inspection February-June 2015 Noosa Shire Council has resolved that an approved systematic inspection program be carried out on all residential properties within the Noosa Shire Council region, to monitor compliance with the registration requirements of the State Government’s Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008 Your dog must be registered if: •It is older than three months of age •You have recently become the owner of a dog that is not registered in your name •You have recently moved to the area.

Maximum number of dogs -Two dogs per property.

The annual registration period is from 1 October to 30 September the following year. New registrations will be valid until 30 September regardless of when the dog is registered.

Micro-chipping your dog is compulsory if: 

your dog is younger than 12 weeks as of 1 July 2009



LIONS CLUB SCHOOL BREAKFAST PROJECT GROWS TO KEEP UP WITH POMONA HIGH SCHOOL GROWTH Two years ago members of the Cooroy Pomona Lions started a Breakfast Club at the Pomona Campus of the Noosa District State High School.

Every Tuesday morning since then they have provided toast and juice and a smiling friendly face from some “oldies” in the community. They provide an opportunity for students to become acquainted with members of this local service club and learn a bit about what Lions do in their community and further afield while munching on their toast.

The breakfast is available to any student – many having left home without eating for a variety of reasons – just slept in, had to catch the bus, had to do homework, or maybe there was nothing in the cupboard.

All are welcome.

The Pomona Pacers is so much more than a walking group. The group is a friendly social network with regular coffee mornings and monthly evening outings to soak up the moonlight over the beautiful Noosa River.

Our regular program is based around energetic walks of 50-60 minutes around Pomona and the immediate area Monday to Friday (except public holidays).

Occasionally on Friday mornings the group ventures further afield to explore the Noosa Heritage Trail Network and some of the lovely public gardens

Pomona Pool is open for business HOORAY the Pomona Pool has reopened!

It has been lovely to see the community enjoying the Pomona State Primary School’s pool again since reopening on 3 Jan 2015. Families and lap swimmers alike have continued to visit the pool and I would like to say thanks to the community for your patronage. I’d also like to acknowledge the assistance received from Mick, Alyson, Rob and Wayne of Pomona State Primary School – thank you sincerely for helping me open the pool to our community.

The Pomona Swimming Pool has also been supported by Noosa Council and I’d like to thank Stephen James, Alison Hamblin, Kim Cummins, Heather Williams and Nathan Evans for their personal assistance. I would also like to share my gratitude to all of those who have helped me spread the word that the pool is now open!

Erin Yarwood hosts AQUA Aerobics: Mondays 6:35am and Fridays 7:30 am *this session may move to 6:35am please consult with Carmen.

Deb Fraser hosts AQUA Pilates Combo: Wednesdays 5:15pm and Saturday 8:00am Be prepared for AQUA with a water bottle, towel, (caps and goggles if you have them) and by arriving 10mins early to complete a participation form with Carmen at the counter.

Carmen has a passion for aquatics and customer service and highly values interacting with the public, she has been a Noosa Hinterland local for over 16 years and is excited to be taking on management of the Pomona Swimming Pool.

Carmen has extensive experience as a Swimming Instructor and as an aquatic industry professional and loves seeing the children progress in their lessons.

Carmen is a certified Austswim Swimming Instructor, a qualified Lifeguard certified with Royal Life Saving Australia, certified in Public Safety – Aquatic Rescue, holder of her Royal Lifesaving Australia Bronze Medallion, holds a certified Blue Card for Child Related Employment and is trained to perform First Aid and CPR, she is also a Qualified Justice of the Peace and recently completed her Bachelor of Business Degree at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
