Pomona Community House coordinator, Heather Manders, said the new shed was a multi-functional space that would give her organisation scope to cater to the needs of community organisations, and for meetings and other activities that could not be accommodated in the former station master‟s residence – the home of Community House for the past 15 years. In further acknowledgement of the community determination that practically willed the new shed place into existence, Mayor Abbot officially opened the „Lawson Shed‟ named in honour of Brian Lawson, Honorary Office & Project Manager of the Pomona & District Community House.

Brian battled for 7 years to get the project going, with knock back after knock back by funding bodies. Brian supervised construction and inspired local businesses and tradespeople to donate goods and services that doubled the value of the shed beyond the original grant money of $129,000 from former Noosa Shire Council and $20,000 from QLD Department of Communities. Mayor Abbot said one definition for success of any district was the drive of business and community organisations to leverage projects off the back of government programs. “What you have Locals Supporting Locals
