Cooran: The little town that roared Fast gaining a reputation as the ‘mouse that roared’, the town of Cooran is letting its voice be heard more loudly following a well-attended Cooran: It’s Happening event on 24 February. More than 120 people packed the hall, including Mayor Tony Wellington and two other councillors.

Organised by the Cooran Earth Rights movement, speakers recounted the successful campaign that culminated in the Queensland Government refusing an application to renew a coal exploration event covering the north of Noosa Shire.

However, the town plans to build on this success to maintain the momentum towards becoming a carbon-neutral community. - Continued page 4
Show calls for volunteers It takes well over 150 volunteers to run the Noosa Country Show over two days every September. Many more work with the Show Committee during the year to prepare for the event. Every year there is something different that reflects the interests of the volunteers who work throughout the year.

The show is looking for people with a community ethos to fill the roles of leaders, stewards, gardeners, painters and just about anything; to donate a little or a lot of their time to keep the Show and the Pomona Showgrounds vibrant.
