Premiership victory fills club with pride BROTHERS IN ARMS: Not just brothers, but fathers and sons and cousins too contributed to the strong camaraderie that sustained the Pomona–Cooroy Demons to the top spot.
Two senior premiership titles in three years and strong junior players coming through the ranks demonstrate that the Pomona– Cooroy Demons will dominate the local Aussie Rules football competition for years to come. After taking out the SEQAFL Division 4 premiership in 2011, after a 38-year drought, the seniors side came back to defeat Bribie island in a belligerent and aggressive 2013 decider match, 12.15.87 to 5.9.39.
Teammates in life and on the field – father and son members of the winning team, Liam and Andrew Hennings
The game concluded a season on the back of an 11-game winning streak for the Demons. At a time when sport has been embraced in
controversy across many codes, the family-orientated Demons progressed through the 2013 season in an unassuming manner. The Dee’s winning side included three sets of brothers, two father– son combinations and one set of cousins. On top of that, all but two players on the list of 22 had come through from the club junior ranks, or were the sons of former players. The win must also be seen as yet another fine achievement for rookie coach Alex Mckinnon, who assumed this role after a stellar playing career with the Demons.
