RESIDENTS of Black Mountain are invited to a community meeting at Federal Hall on Sunday 21 August at 1 pm to have their say on what they would like actioned as a matter of urgency and to help develop a formal submission from the community to the Noosa Council concerning priorities.

Coordinated by a group of Black Mountain residents, the meeting will be a space for everyone to come together to share information and questions and help ensure the community feels long-term resilience.

The purpose of the meeting is to establish a community recovery and risk management plan and formalise it for submission to Noosa Council to mitigate ongoing issues in the Black Mountain community and the environment.

The meeting will also offer the opportunity for residents to submit their expression of interest to participate in a Black Mountain Representative Committee.

An attempt has been made to ensure all Black Mountain residents are informed of the meeting via letterbox drops, the Cooroy notice board, and social media; however, some residents may not have access to these channels. The Black Mountain Community is calling on everyone to work as a collective to ensure attendance is as powerful as possible.

For anyone with transportation issues to and from Federal Hall, please let Black Mountain Community know via email to blackmountaincommunity@gmail. com or messaging through the Facebook page www.facebook. com/BlackMountainCommunityGroup. Similarly, those unable to attend are being asked to email the group with action points.

Beginner bridge lessons to begin

Bridge players in action during a recent competition and Beulah O’Shea, Pat Lovell, Julia Caldwell, Trudy Ryan.

EIGHT weeks of bridge lessons are starting at the Noosa Bridge Club. This twice-yearly offering, held in the clubrooms in Noosaville, will start on 6 September.

Noosa Bridge Club committee member, Julie Scott, said bridge is more than just a card game and is suitable for any age and all generations.

“Bridge keeps your memory active and your brain alert, confirming the old saying ‘use it or lose it’.

“These days, bridge is attracting a younger audience so don’t wait till you retire before learning because everyone wishes they had started playing bridge earlier.”

There is a Saturday session available for weekday workers, and Julie said once the basic skills have been mastered there are a number of competitions available.

“The recent Novice Congress is where players of the same ability compete in a friendly atmosphere.”

The eight-week course begins Tuesday 6 September from 1 pm till 3 pm. Cost is $80, which includes a copy of Paul Marston’s Introduction to Bridge.

This beginner’s course will cover all the basic concepts of bridge and includes sessions of supervised play where your teacher will be available for help.

Fun, fashion and fundraising with Zonta

THE Zonta Club of Noosa is hosting their yearly Fashion Parade Extravaganza.

Featuring sustainable and ethically made fashion created by young designers from the Noosa area, this year’s theme is “swagger”, with all funds from the event going towards buying swags for homeless people in the local area.

Fashion highlights will include natural-fibre designs from Rani Wilkinson at Ella & Sunday; wearable art from young Noosa designer Teddie McRitchie; sustainable designs produced by Sunshine Beach State High School Year 12 Young Designers; and upmarket, pre-loved outfits from Ma Petite Boutique.

The event, at the Sunshine Beach Surf Club on Friday 26 August from 3 pm to 6 pm, will be hosted by Hello Sunshine magazine’s fashion editor, Carlie Wacker.

Tickets are available for $80 at https://www.trybooking.com/ CAMVP and include a free glass of champagne on arrival, canapés, and music performed by the Good Shepherd Lutheran College string quartet.

Zonta members seek to empower women through education and to encourage a fairer future for everyone. Saying NO to violence against women, and promoting climate action and gender equality will help ensure women achieve their full potential.

TRAFFIC and camping on Teewah Beach have required ongoing advocacy from Member for Noosa, Sandy Bolton, and the community for the last five years.

At the Noosa Parks Association’s Friday Environment Forum on 26 August, Sandy will provide an update on the progress of addressing poor behaviour, control of visitor numbers, protecting key environmental habitats such as turtle hatching areas, reviewing community impacts and future work in this space.

At the upcoming 2 September Friday Environment Forum, underwater photographer and photojournalist Nigel Marsh will discuss unique Australian marine life.

Nigel has been exploring the waters around Australia for over forty years. He will share his underwater photos and describe the wonderful unique marine life of Australia.

Noosa Parks Association hosts the Friday Environment Forum at the Noosa Parks Association Environment Centre at 5 Wallace Drive, Noosaville.

Join the bird observers at 8:30 am in the car park for interpretive birding or the forum starts at 10:30 am. Morning tea is available from 10 am to 10:25 am. Entry is $5 by ‘tap & go’ at the door. Everyone is welcome.

LIVELIFE Pharmacies and Tewantin Noosa Lions Club joined forces to create and distribute care packs to Sunny Kids and to support individuals in need.

The joint initiative ‘Care Packs for Those in Need’ was created to provide essential health care, personal care, beauty, and first aid items to people doing it tough in the community.

LiveLife Pharmacies throughout Queensland, as well as their wonderful network of suppliers, donated over $30,000 worth of products to stock the care packs.

Tewantin Noosa Lions Club members then worked tirelessly to fill hundreds of the care packs with essential items.

The Lions Clubs then delivered the packs throughout Queensland, with a focus on ensuring the packs went to the people who most needed them.

A large number of care packs were presented to Sunny Kids, which has a family support centre in Cooroy, to help the many men, women and children that they support.

Sunny Kids Service Team Leader Alex Comino said the care packs go a long way for the women and children experiencing hardship who struggle to maintain access to these everyday essentials.

“Shampoos, conditioners, sanitary products and a few little luxuries for much-needed self-care.

“It was amazing to see so many families benefit directly. Thank you LiveLife Pharmacies, thank you Tewantin Noosa Lions Club – we are so very grateful.”

LiveLife Pharmacies and Lions Clubs look forward to partnering more with Sunny Kids in the future.
