Noosa Christian College 2021 Dux Alyssa Brownell is off to study physics at QUT.
Alyssa gets all her Dux in a row IT was worth the wait for Alyssa Brownell, when she was finally announced as Noosa Christian College 2021 Secondary Dux. The new ATAR system and delayed results meant that Alyssa could not be honoured as Dux at the 2021 end-of-year Awards Ceremony but she was thrilled when she received the good news last month. Commenting on the achievement when it was announced on the school’s Facebook page, proud mum Piia Brownell joked that Alyssa now had all her dux in a row, having received the honour at both primary and high school levels. “As your mum, I am ever so chuffed at your dedication and love of education,” she said. As well as her wellearned Dux Certificate, Alyssa receives $200 cash from Noosa Christian College. To cap off an outstanding Year 12, Alyssa achieved
marks of 100 per cent on all internal QCAA moderated assignments in Physics and Chemistry. It might pay to take a deep breath before reading this full list of Alyssa’s 2021 awards – it’s as lengthy as it is impressive: Secondary College Dux Award, Year 12 Cultural Award, 2021 Certificate of Excellence for Outstanding Performance in Senior Chemistry by the Royal Chemical Institute, 2021 Certificate of Excellence for Physics for Outstanding Performance in Physics by the Australian Institute of Physics, 2021 Australian Defence Force Future Innovators Award for Innovation and Learning in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (includes a $550 prize). Alyssa also achieved Top Subject Awards for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Visual Art and a Commendation for English Literature. Last
year, Alyssa received the William and Hilde Chenhall Research Trust Scholarship, which is awarded each year to a student with exceptional talent and interest in Science. With such impressive results in her final year of secondary school, Alyssa now enters the next exciting stage of her education and has accepted a placement at Queensland University of Technology in the Bachelor of Physics (Honours Program). She is yet to decide whether to major in Geophysics, Nanophysics or Astrophysics. Due to privacy, Noosa Christian College declined to reveal Alyssa’s ATAR score, but a school representative said it was “very impressive”. “A huge congratulations to Alyssa for her achievements and for being a great student leader at Noosa Christian College. We are very proud of you,” said the school representative.
