Partners in Textile Helen McIntosh, Cathy Moon, Sybil Orr Sybil Orr, Cathy Moon and Helen McIntosh have been working in isolation for years, in exile if you like, developing their own unique style without much outside influence. Recently the three artists discovered they were all at the same point in their practice and thinking along similar lines. This exhibition brings together disparate personalities, methods, skills, and knowledge bases to create a showcase full of excitement, colour, originality and ideas. The common thread of fibre binds them together.

Cooroy mother’s fashion picked for the Ekka CLOTHING label, ella & sunday (based in Cooroy), has been selected to represent the Sunshine Coast at the Ekka this year for the Natural Fibres Fashion Parade “Back to Nature”! Rani Wilkinson says she is thrilled to be featured alongside some of Queensland’s leading designers including Maiocchi, Sacha Drake, and White Label Noba! Rani said the ella & sunday label was borne from years of searching for beautiful clothes that can be worn every day. “As a Mum of four I’m always looking for fashion that is affordable and stylish versatile pieces that can be worn to work, school drop off and dressed up and taken out on the town. “My focus is on natural fibres, timeless styling, and to create the perfect fit for women of all shapes.” Rani began her career in the clothing industry in the early 90’s at East Sydney Technical College studying Fashion Pro-

duction in Custom Clothing. Over the years she has worked in both haute couture and mass production companies in production, wholesale fashion and online sales. Her experience in made to measure patternmaking and sewing have set the building blocks to create her collections. “Natural fibres are used exclusively throughout my designs. “Timeless, versatile pieces, well cut, with a contemporary feel set ella & sunday apart. Designed to flatter and fall comfortably on the female form, ella & sunday is created with you and I in mind. The Back to Nature Natural Fibres Fashion Parades will be staged on the entertainment and fashion stage, upper level, Royal International Convention Centre, Brisbane Showgrounds at 12.30, 1.30 and 2.30pm daily during the Ekka.

New radio station in Pomona! THANKS to the efforts of passionate locals, Pomona has a new sound on the airwaves. Engaging and entertaining, Vision Pomona 88.0 FM sprang to life on 5 July. It’s just come out of its testing period. “We’re excited to be on air in Pomona and bringing you a really different radio choice,” says Andrew ‘Robbo’ Robinson - one half of Vision’s breakfast team. “Whenever a new station is switched on, it doesn’t take long before we start hearing from locals how they’ve found it’s engaging and actually is making a positive difference in their everyday life. “There’s a lot of negativity about today and we want to bring something positive. You’ll

figure out pretty quickly we’re a Christian station but don’t let that stop you tuning in,” says Robbo. Vision is about ‘Connecting Faith to Life’ and it achieves this though broadcasting contemporary music, engaging chat, encouraging real life stories, news and most other things you’d expect from a national radio station. Included in the daily line-up are programmes from renowned Christian speakers including Chuck Missler, Ravi Zacharias and Greg Laurie. “Sometimes when people think of Christianity, they think of something stuffy and out of touch with real life,” Robbo says. “Vision’s not like that - far from it. “One of our most popular programmes is

Vision has been broadcasting since 1999 and has built a solid following of listeners to both its growing number of local radio stations and people listening online. news Impact Boxing’s golden girl Ella Boot has done it !!

COOROY RAG ELLA won Gold in the 60kg division at the recent Youth Commonwealth Games held in the Bahamas. Ella now goes in the history books as the first Australian female to ever win a Gold medal at these games. Winning Gold did not come easy though. This young lady, alongside her team mate and fellow Impact Boxing star Ben Cameron-Hands trained the house down in the lead up to the games. Benny and Ella were put through a gruelling 7 week training camp by Coach Mark Evans prior to the games. The training consisted of 11 training sessions a week broken into morning and evening sessions. These training sessions included 2 strength and conditioning sessions, 2 road work sessions and a hill sprint session in the mornings each week and the evening sessions included sparring, bag work, partner skill drills, footwork combined with hand eye co ordination drills and pad work. Ben Cameron-Hands was the first boxer to compete from the Australian team. Ben drew the tall, awkward Sri Lankan who was also a southpaw (left handed). From the opening bell the Sri Lankan came at Ben like a bull out of a gate. Ben tried in vein to keep his awkward opponent at bay for the duration of the round. Round two saw Benny work his angles and counter punch his taller opponent with precision to edge his way back into the bout. The third and final round saw both boys meet in centre ring knowing that to win this bout they needed to win this round. Once the bell rang to start the round it was on! Both boys having their moments giving their all as the clock ticked away.

DIES We are ALL TRA & EXPERIENCED / Plumbing etc in Landscaping ADAM has run an Award winning, design and construction company for 15 years, Grow Landscapes. He holds a Diploma in Structural Landscape. Adam grew up in Nambour and is passionate about community & the coast.

SHARON Sharon has looked after the administrative side of their past business design and construction business for 15 years. She is very excited to be residing full time at the Kin Kin farm and looking after her family, horses and cattle. Ella Boot with coach Mark Evans proudly displaying her Gold medal Unfortunately for Ben the decision went the way of the Sri Lankan in a very close well contested bout. Ella’s first bout was a semi final bout against Leah Fruen from NZ. This bout was always going to be a tough bout for both girls. “We travelled to NZ to compete against Leah in April as we knew she would be at the Games as the NZ representative. “The aim of this was to see where we stood with her in preparation that we would more than likely meet at the games. Ella won that bout in NZ which I believe gave her a huge mental edge going into the semi final bout against her,” Coach Mark Evans said. “As expected both girls dug deep to put on a brilliant display of boxing

with Ella being named the winner via a split points decision and moving into the Gold medal round.” Ella’s opponent in the final bout was from India. With the Gold medal at stake both girls put it all on the line as they traded punches in centre ring. As Ella started to edge her way towards victory her Indian opponent started pulling out all her dirty tricks. Ella received a nasty head butt for which her opponent was penalised a point for the foul. This seemed to anger the Indian as she came at Ella desperately trying to throw everything she could to upset the Aussie. To Ella’s credit she maintained her composure and continued to out box her opponent to be crowned the eventual winner and the 2017

Youth Commonwealth Games female 60kg champion! Ella and Team Impact will now turn their focus towards the World Women’s Youth Championships to be held in India in November where Ella will again don the Green and Gold to represent her country. “To say that I am proud of Benny and Ella is an understatement. “To have two members on the Australian team that have come from the same club is a massive achievement. “Benny boxed his heart out and unfortunately didn’t get the decision that we had hoped for but the experience and the journey are sometimes more valuable than the decision. There are great things still to come for this little champion,” said

Evans. “ As for Ella, I believe that this young lady is destined for greatness and winning Gold at these games is just the beginning of that journey. “She has that inner will to win and is not afraid to do whatever it takes to do so. “We will now start preparing Ella for the World Championships in November. We have Tyler Blizzard preparing for the men’s world championships in Germany at the end of this month and then we will focus on our 2018 Commonwealth Games preparation when we return. “Busy times ahead for this little boxing club in Cooroy as we keep making an Impact on the World Stage! Watch this space!”

and other events we’re currently struggling to have without a space,” said Deb. “I know our businesses get called on a lot to contribute to various fundraisers, and I very much appreciate them digging deep again for this worthwhile cause. Buying a ticket in the mega raffle means you’re contributing too, so make sure you get your tickets. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5 and available at the Cooroy Post Office or Deb and Jan will be selling them either outside of IGA or LiveLife Pharmacy every Thursday and Saturday. Prizes will be drawn at The Hub on September 9th.

MANY would be aware, the pedestrian crossing at Maple Street (near the Cooroy Hall) has quite a few near misses. Cooroy Chamber raised this issue with Noosa Council over 18 months ago with the support of a petition signed by hundreds of residents that Tania Stewart collated. Tony Wellington has advised that a solution is in sight and has provided the following information: “In speaking with our traffic staff, it seems that it is not only the Cooroy crossing that is experiencing dangerous and inconsiderate driver behaviour. This appears to be an escalating problem at crossings right throughout the Shire. We do have funds in the budget to look at pedestrian linkages in Cooroy this financial year. Part of that assessment will include the possibility of raising the existing crossing to make it a speed hump style crossing. “Staff will need to consider stormwater drainage, visibility and impacts on the nearby roundabout. But it is definitely on the list for consideration.”

Junior Rugby League Richie Johnston Mini Mod Carnival THE Noosa District Junior Rugby League Club have the annual Richie Johnston Mini Mod Carnival on Sunday 20 th August 2017 which will see approx. 5000 people attending the rugby league club at Mary River Rd, Cooroy. Ode to Cooroy Australia has a plenty, of towns both great and small, The big smoke and the bright lights, and Sydney‘s grey smog pall. Or Wollongong or Southport, and Melbourne‘s High Street Mall, with office blocks and towers, that scrape the sky so tall.

It aint half bad for country folk, to wander eyes a wide, and watch those city slickers, rush past and curse our hide. Their train is full, they‘re running late, there is no time to spare, to stop and chat, or shut a gate, or simply pause or care. I‘d like them all to turn sharp left, en route to Gympie town, and stay a while in Maple Street or tour through Federal Downs. I‘d like them to go out at night, though not to big flash malls, just sit out on black mountain, and hear the mopoke‘s calls. Or taste a home baked pastie, or sip a cup of char, just like they make right here in, the trim lanes of Cooroy. The plumber and the grocer, the builder and his crew, the BlueCare girls, they all find time, to say “G`day to you”. “I saw your Dad he`s doin fine, to him I`ll drop back soon, to bat the breeze and swap a yarn, straight after chow at noon”. - Those city folk - they don‘t know what, the village life can be. Cooroy is where the living‘s like - those other towns should be. Campbell Dunstan

BOUQUETS & BRICKBATS BRICKBATS: I wonder how long it is going to be before someone is cleaned up by one of these young scooter riders belting down the footpath in Maple Street after school. From what I have seen they are an accident looking for a place to happen. While I am not against scooters or their riders, I was young once myself, I think they should be made to walk them through the business area of the main street. It is not only a pedestrian who could be injured but the riders themselves if they have to take evasive action to miss someone. I know the local police have more than enough on their plate to deal with but perhaps they could drop into the local skate park and talk to the riders about the dangers of riding at speed through the main business area.

news Time for a business health check

COOROY RAG

Geoff Edwards, Cooroy & Pomona Community Bank Branches of Bendigo Bank It’s approaching the end of August and we’re now into another financial year. How did you fair last year? Inevitably some business owners will be smiling, others hoping nothing else will go wrong, and yet another group wondering why all their hard work has amounted to so little profit. Whichever group you see yourself in, now is the ideal time to do a health check of your business. One of the first outward signs of a business in ill-health is its relationships with customers and suppliers. Little things start to slip. Customer requests and orders get misplaced or are not followed through. Quotes and invoices contain errors or are not sent. Suppliers are not kept up to date with changing circumstances and are frequently asked for favours. The word ‘sorry’ becomes a common part of conversations with customers and suppliers. The next sign to look for is reluctance among customers and suppliers to deal with you. Early indications of this are customer orders being limited to items that cannot be sourced elsewhere, where previously the order was for a wider range of items or services. Other indications include a reduction in the amount of contact you are receiving from customers and suppliers, and continual postponements of visits or meetings with them. Financially, cash-flow is the heartbeat of the business. While it goes up and down in every business as customer payments are received and suppliers and expenses are paid, the variation should be kept to a minimum, and the trend watched very carefully. Another important element to include as

part of the health check is a reality check. That is, it’s a good idea to reflect on what the business actually is, which may be very different to what you hoped it would be and how you are trying to promote it. One final check is to take a look at the future, short and long term and realistically assess whether your business is in a fit state to cope with it. The key assessment in this context is to understand the economic and competitive environment your business is likely to be facing and whether the business is ready for the range of scenarios it may encounter. A key question to answer in this regard is: Who are my future customers, where will they come from and what will they want? If you would like to have a chat about your business, please contact us on 5447 7131 (Cooroy) or 5485 1786 (Pomona) or me directly via geoff.edwards@bendigoadelaide.com.au.

WHEN it comes to insurance, many people adopt a ‘she’ll be right’ attitude, but looking at the statistics, there’s more chance of something going wrong than you might think. Research has found that one in five families will be impacted by death, a serious accident or illness that leaves a parent unable to work, but 95% of families don’t have adequate levels of insurance to cover this situation. What types of cover are available? Insuring yourself and your income can allow you to maintain your lifestyle and living arrangements, and give you comfort in knowing you can still meet your financial commitments - things like your home loan, rent, card repayments, bills, kids’ education fees, and treatment and rehabilitation costs should you need it. You can buy different forms of personal insurance through your super fund or via an insurance company or an adviser. Here’s a rundown of the four main types of cover available: • Life insurance pays a lump sum on your death or the diagnosis of a terminal illness • Trauma insurance pays a lump sum on the diagnosis or occurrence of a specific illness • Income protection provides a replacement income of up to 75% of your regular income if you’re unable to work due to illness or injury • Total and permanent disability (TPD) pays a lump sum if you become disabled and are unable to ever work again. How much is enough? It’s important to choose the right type of insurance for your situation, which will be impacted by your personal circumstances, such as whether you have a partner or

children, and the level of your debts. It’s also important to understand how much insurance you need so you are not underinsured - nor paying for unnecessary cover. We can also help determine how much cover you need. Contact us on 07 5447 7740. What else do I need to consider? Some people believe that if they are young or healthy they don’t need life insurance. However, circumstances can change quickly, and it generally costs more to buy insurance when you’re older, so securing cover when you’re young could be a good idea. Another common belief is that if you get sick or injured the government will pick up the bill. And while it’s true that workers’ compensation and benefit payments may apply in some cases, it’s unlikely any payments will fully replace the income lost, or cover all of your ongoing financial obligations. If you need more information, contact us on 07 5447 7740. *Chad Monroe of Provision Wealth Management 1 Pty Ltd | ABN 44 164 359 568 and Provision Wealth Management Pty Ltd | ABN: 52 149 014 004, trading as Provision Wealth Management, are Authorised Representatives and Credit Representatives of AMP Financial Planning Pty Limited AFS Licence No. 232706 Any advice in this editorial is of a general nature only and does not take into account the objectives, financial situation or needs of any particular person. Sharp new look for Street Reach Van tionship help,” Josh added. Cooroy and Pomona Community Bank branch manager, Geoff Edwards said the van is one of the most valued sponsorships Bendigo Bank is involved in. “We hope it’s not only recognised for its artwork, but for the great services the van will

Cooroy and Pomona Community Bank branch manager, Geoff Edwards with Pastor Josh Usher and the newly re-skinned Street Reach Van last week ONE of Noosa’s most recognisable vehicles just got a facelift. The Street Reach program has been in our community for many years, but the local Community Bank branches of Bendigo Bank gifted the team at Noosa Christian Outreach Church with a new van in 2011. Since then, the van has continued its great work by finding hurts and healing them. Noosa COC Pastor, Josh Usher said the Street Reach program is about commu-

The Street Reach Van provides a positive place for young people who for a variety of reasons are on streets on a Friday Night,” he said. For the past six years the van has been used to support the church’s food outlet and op shop, school chaplaincy, counselling and

foster care programs. “The van is in great shape, but just needed a freshen-up and we’re so delighted the team at Bendigo bank have stepped up again to give the van this great new look. Our great relationship began with the Cooroy, Marcoola, Tewantin and Pomona Community Bank branches in 2011 when they gave us the van and now we look forward to continuing its great work providing youth support and rela-

Eumundi Rocks around the Clock

THE Eumundi School of Arts hall will come alive on Saturday 16 September 2017 when Australian Music Legend ‘Little Pattie’ performs for the 50th Anniversary of the naming of The Sunshine Coast. This event put on by the Eumundi Historical Association which is trustee of the hall will also mark and important time 50 years ago when the hall was still a two storey building and in need of major repair. Up until television came along in 1956 the School of Arts was the hub of entertainment for Eumundi and the surrounding district. In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s the then hall committee discussed many times the that the cost of maintaining a large two storey wooden building was becoming too much for the small community who over the years since it opened in 1912 had constantly fundraised to maintain and repair it. Termites were also an issue many times, with the hall being closed at one stage as it was considered unsafe to use. Finally it was decided to lower the hall to one storey with tenders being called in 1967 and the hall finally lowered in 1968. Maintenance of this grand building is a continual, never ending issue, with the Eumundi Historical Association

committed to spending close to $150,000 this year on major works including a major upgrade to the toilets, new stage curtains and solar power. Stage lighting is next on the wish list of many of the halls users and any profit from this event will go towards lighting and sound equipment. The Eumundi Historical Association president Donata Page is passionate about ‘future proofing the hall’ as she likes to call it and commented that ‘we need to keep this great building which is over 100 years old which was built by and continues to be run by the community in the best possible shape so it can be used well into the future and maybe for another 100 years’. This musical event will also celebrate the continual use of this iconic Eumundi building and a past tradition of debutante balls, fundraiser dances, school musicals, plays and the many and varied events that have taken place in the Eumundi School of Arts since 1912 with similar events still going on today. Little Pattie today is as energetic as she was when she took a stronghold on the Australian music scene in the mid sixties as a bright fourteen year old school girl from Sydney. With a succession of hits including “He’s my Blonde Headed Stompie Wompie Real Gone Surfer Boy” and “Stompin’ at Maroubra”, Pattie established herself as a prominent force in the Australian music industry. Her talents are credited with many industry awards including Best Female Singer, Most Popular Female Performer, TV Logie for Best Teenage Personality and a succession of Gold Records. ‘Blue Suede Gasoline Alley’ band will also be performing along with the Sunshine Coast’s ‘Doo Wop Dolls’. You will be sent back to the time when ‘Six O’clock Rock’ and ‘Bandstand’ where popular TV shows. ‘Eumundi Rocks around the Clock’ will be a 1960’s style dinner dance, ticket price includes a buffet dinner and glass of bubbly, with prizes for best dressed. Cash bar available. This event is part of the ‘Festival of Community Halls’ which is celebrating over 20 community owned and run halls across the Sunshine Coast who are offering a variety of events in August and September to celebrate these much loved halls. Tarantino double feature at Drive-in

STARRY Nights Outdoor Movies presents PULP FICTION and RESERVOIR DOGS in a classic double-feature screening at the Eumundi Drive-in on Friday 1 September. Come along for a night of Tarantino brilliance (and those soundtracks!) under the starry skies. To guarantee a spot on the night, pre-book your tickets at www.ticketebo.com.au/starrynights. Cost: $25 per car and $10 per person for walkins. Venue: Eumundi Showgrounds, Black Stump Rd - off Memorial Drive, Eumundi. Near northern Eumundi entrance to Bruce Hwy. Gates open: 5.00pm First Screening: 6.30pmish Candy bar open with freshly cooked pizza, hot dogs, popcorn, lollies and cool drinks. PULP FICTION (R) Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) are hitmen with a penchant for philosophical discussions. In this ultra-hip, multi-strand crime movie, their storyline is interwoven with those of their boss, gangster Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames); his actress wife, Mia (Uma Thurman) ; struggling boxer Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) ; master fixer Winston Wolfe (Harvey Keitel) and a nervous pair of

armed robbers, “Pumpkin” (Tim Roth) and “Honey Bunny” (Amanda Plummer) - in tales of violence and resemption. Highly acclaimed, many critics and scholars have named it one of the most significant works of modern cinema. RESERVOIR DOGS (R) A team of five men are assembled to pull off the perfect diamond heist. To maintain their anonymity, they are to don matching suits and the criminal mastermind Joe Cabot (Lawrence Tierney) assigns them all fake names: Mr White (Harvey Keitel), Mr Orange (Tim Roth), Mr Blonde (Michael Madsen), Mr Brown (Quentin Tarantino), and Mr Pink (Steve Buscemi). We see the events before and after the heist, and the film provides a mix of expertly crafted, conversational dialogue, and extreme violence depicted in real time. Tarantino’s directorial debut, RESERVOIR DOGS is as good now as it was then. Regarded as a classic and cult hit, it has been called the “Greatest Independent Film of All Time” by Empire. dining & entertainment Guitar legend Dai Pritchard up close and personal

COOROY RAG

FRIDAY 18 August – Imperial Hotel Eumundi. He’s an Australian guitar rock legend and Dai Pritchard will be working his magic at The Imperial Hotel Eumundi on Friday 18 August. Pritchard is one of the best in the business - as guitarist for Rose Tattoo, Jimmy Barnes, Glen Shorrock of LRB, Doug Parkinson, Olivia Newton-John, Billy Thorpe + many more. For the Eumundi gig, Dai will be supported by multi-award winning performer and songwriter Lee T-Bone Turner. From the moment he saw Alice Cooper at Melbourne’s Festival Hall (Dai was 15 back in 1977), he knew guitar was what he wanted to do. It wasn’t charismatic frontman Alice, but instead the two guitarists with their power chords and searing licks that had young Dai mesmerized. His first gig in the early ‘80s was in a punk rock band called The Vents. His apprenticeship then included a brief stint with His Majesty, and then, in 1988, his “serious” original band, Der Straza, fronted by singer Stephanie Howell. Through the ‘90s and into the noughties,

Pritchard gradually found himself the guitarist of choice by some pretty big – and diverse – names, among them Jimmy Barnes, Glen Shorrock of LRB, Doug Parkinson and even Olivia Newton-John. But it was his eight years playing with the late, great Billy Thorpe that consolidated his reputation as a hard-working power player, an association that took him around the country not only with Thorpe but as part of the incredibly successful ‘Long Way To The Top’ tours in 2002/3, which also saw him play with Marcia Hines. After that came stints with Nancy Kiel Band, Chris E. Thomas, Steve Flack’s Guitar Heroes and ‘residencies as a solo acoustic artist, but all through those years, he was secretly wishing to play in one band above all others, dropping seriously heavy hints every chance he could to drummer Paul DeMarco, with whom he played in Thorpie’s band when DeMarco’s other band weren’t touring. That other band? Rose Tattoo. In 2005, Pritchard’s dream finally came true (though sadly for all the wrong reasons as slide guitarist and founding member Pete Wells was unwell). With two weeks notice before a 30-date European tour, Dai Pritchard became a fulltime member of Rose Tattoo, proudly blazing his own chops into their musical legacy on their album, Blood Brothers. In Eumundi, Dai will be backed by keyboardist Parris Macleod, along with Bob Oliver (USA) Berkley University drummer and Sunshine Coast session bassist Garry Ward. TICKETS: Pre-sale $25 (+ booking fee) through Oztix or at the Imperial Hotel (Ph: 5442 8811). $30 at the door. Doors open 7.30pm The Imperial Hotel’s FREE courtesy bus operates Friday & Saturday nights from 5pm + Sundays from 2pm. Also available for GROUP BOOKINGS of eight or more up to 30 mins from the hotel (from Coolum to Cooran, Palmwoods to Noosa).

Keeping your skin healthy and hydrated during Winter DURING the chilly Winter months, LiveLife Pharmacy is here to help you look after your skin! Ordinarily, dry skin isn’t serious, but it can be uncomfortable and unsightly, creating ne lines and wrinkles. Chronic dry skin problems may require evaluation by a doctor who specialises in skin, but you can do a lot on your own to improve your skin, including using moisturisers and avoiding harsh, drying soaps. Moisturisers provide a seal over your skin to keep water from escaping. Apply moisturiser several times a day. Thicker moisturisers tend to work the best as they have better “staying power” than lotions and sprays. Consider using cosmetics that contain moisturisers. The face is quite sensitive and can often be the first to suffer when the weather changes. You may even use a different cosmetic for Winter than you do in Summer. If there is extreme dryness, you may consider applying an oil after a shower while your skin is still moist. Oil will have even more “staying power” than normal moisturisers and prevents the evaporation of water from the surface of your skin. Ointments containing a parafin/petroleum jelly base also provide excellent moisture for the skin. However they can feel greasy and be difficult to use, so once daily application at bedtime may be

all you wish to do with this option. If you have very dry and scaly skin, your pharmacist may recommend you use an over the counter non-prescription cream that contains lactic acid and/or urea. Apply moisturisers immediately after bathing. Gently pat your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains. Immediately moisturise your skin with your cream/ointment/oil to help trap water in the surface cells. Avoid long, hot showers and baths and try to use luke warm water and limit bath time to 5-10 minutes. Avoid using cleansers containing harsh, drying soaps. It’s best to use cleansing creams or gentle skin cleansers that are pH balanced and “soap free”. Avoid deodorant and antibacterial detergents, fragrance, and alcohol containing products. Consider using a humidifier – these will help to add moisture to the air inside your home, and are especially useful if you are using heaters in Winter that can dry out the air. If you are having more severe symptoms with cracked, itchy, red, or irritated skin, please make sure you speak with our pharmacists who are always here to help. We may have a more specific treatment regimen to recommend for your skin. Call in to LiveLife Pharmacy, Cooroy and Pomona.

Saying yes to more happiness ARE you amongst the majority of people who list happiness as a top priority in life? But how much happiness are you actually getting on a day-today basis? Does each moment bring you happiness? Most of us go along with the idea that happiness is something to be attained in the future such as when you can save up enough and take time out to go on that holiday of a lifetime. Meanwhile, we see daily life as rather boring, even a grind, like a treadmill with an endless to-do list to get done, and people to please. The trouble with this is by the time the holiday event does come around, we are exhausted and life’s joy has been sucked out of us, so we can’t fully experience all that the dream holiday has to offer anyway. There is another way. What if we could shift our thinking to see every one of the 1440 minutes we have in a day as being special and unique and worthy of celebration. This change in perspective allows us to slow down and take in life’s everyday gifts that do surround us if we care to notice. It allows us to open our hearts and mind to seeing the fulfilment that can come from life’s simple acts such as preparing a nourishing meal, tending a garden and going for a walk in the fresh air. We feel richer from hearing the giggle of a child, the sound of beautiful music and the song of a bird. Choosing to experience life in this way fills us on an ongoing basis and also gives us the resilience to cope during life’s tougher moments. A workshop event for women who would like to say YES to experiencing happiness more often, is being held on Saturday 2nd September 11-3pm at the Cooroy CWA hall. Workshop guides are Deb, a Louise Hay Heal Your Life Coach and Cat, a Personal Stylist. For more information on this great opportunity phone 0436104237 or email insideoutsidegreat@gmail.com

Rotary Club makes a difference

President of Noosa Rotary, Tess Alexandroff and registered nurse Leonie Quin This week Noosa Rotary donated 2 DocUreader Urinalysis machines to Noosa Care, one for Carramar Tewantin and the other to Kabara Cooroy. President Tess Alexandroff met with Dean Dennis the Clinical Coordinator at Carramar for the handover of these

valuable machines. Dean Dennis thanked Rotary for their very generous donation and said NoosaCare will benefit from the new DocUreader Urinalysis machine donated by the Rotary Club. The urinalysis machine is a valuable simple machine to use to assist in the diagnosis of urinary tract infections. This machine will provide resident GPs with a documented automated result to assist them with treatment strategies. Residents care will benefit with early detection of urinary tract infections and may help reduce some residents being transferred to hospital. Having a device like this will reduce the need for Pathology and Doctors to come out onsite to perform these tests. The prompt results will minimise the level of discomfort sooner and decrease the duration of the infection. A big thanks to you and Rotary again for such a generous donation.

COOROY RAG When Opportunity Presents Itself

Cooroy welcomes DN Country

WITH around 150 local identities at 6 Diamond St the birth of a new chapter in Cooroy’s real estate history was ushered in. “The opening was a great success and we are happy to be back home in Cooroy again” says stalwart Michelle Vercoe. Managing Director Dan Neylan officially opened the office and said it is an exciting time to be part of Cooroy’s expansion. The project was completed as a country styled sales office that is welcoming and inviting to buyers and sellers. The office theme incorporates the essence of Dowling Neylan’s “Home and Heart” culture along with some unique office additions including a large old workshop bench complete with original Dawn vice and a classic 1940’s Telefunken

valve radio. “The amount of people we see every day just walking in off the street is astounding” say sales person Paul Bielby. The traffic along Diamond St is phenomenal and there is plenty of parking both on and off street. With the exciting opening of Copperhead Restaurant and brewery, and the ever popular “French and Gorgeous” gathering place we are seeing a new side to Cooroy that has been a long time coming. DN Country is a sister office to Dowling Neylan’s other impressive offices at Hastings St, Noosa Heads, Sunshine Beach and head office at Noosa Parade. Sellers of properties with DN Country will enjoy window display exposure in all of these offices as well as having 16 of the finest

3 Bed, 3 Bath, 3 Car, 31.87Ha Offers over $749,000 Excellent investment opportunity, quality 3 bed, 3 bath home with spacious entertaining areas on 31.87 hectares. This superb property is north facing with four dams and has 14 hectares of well maintained, income producing hardwood trees. The timber plantation has a current standing value of $187,000 with a projected value of $375,000 in 10 to 15 years (refer recent Private Forestry Service Queensland valuation). Currently managed as an agroforestry operation, livestock add a low maintenance element to the plantation via grazing while creating an additional annual income from cattle breeding. The whole property is fully fenced, has a working set of cattle yards and good internal access tracks. A lot of the hard work has been done and the house is in excellent condition. Elevated and private with cooling breezes and peaceful rural views, the low maintenance rendered brick home has air conditioning, new paint and carpets, a new 3Kw grid interactive solar system and access to wireless NBN. A double lockup remote control garage

has internal access and there are three generous bedrooms, two with ensuites, plus large, open plan separate dining, living and lounge areas. These light filled spacious rooms open to a stunning new timber deck which captures mesmerising rural views through the plantation to one of four dams, this being the largest and stocked with silver perch. The upper ridges of the land contains remnant Eucalypt forest and endemic plant species and is a haven for native wildlife and birds. With the value of hardwood timber going up, this property ticks all the boxes as a solid investment, especially when combined with cattle breeding and renting the house. Though maybe you are looking for that perfect weekend retreat or a safe place to park your super. Money really does grow on trees on this unique and private acreage. A peaceful, quiet location in the beautiful Mary Valley less than 15 minutes to Cooroy or Pomona, only 40 minutes to Noosa’s famous beaches and a world away from the normal business of life. For your private viewing call George Andrews 0477 703 429 from Hargrave Real Estate.

COOROY RAG

Noosa girls are in a league of their own

IF you were told the fastest growing sport for women in Australia is rugby league, would you believe it? More than 180,000 girls and women are now playing the greatest game of all in Australia and registrations are up by 45% in Queensland in the past three years. The surge in popularity probably stems from the Jillaroo’s success, but in this World Cup year all 12 World Cup games will be broadcast on freeto-air TV and live streamed. Locally, the story is the same with women’s rugby league giving our young women strong role models. Dedicated Noosa Pirates Junior Rugby League coaches like Tony McIlroy, Glenn Jackson and manager, Jaymie Suares are keen to lend their skills and advice to the young women who have found the sport. Under 16 and 18 team coach Tony McIlroy said that just a handful of girls got things started in 2014.

“It was a great start, but in 2015 Gabbie Hill went on to represent both the Sunshine Coast Falcons and the Wide Bay Bulls. Our girls are seeing some of our younger elite players coming through and want to be the next Sam Bremner or Ruan Sims. Playing league isn’t all about the physicality, it’s about the finesse, the skill set and most of all, sportsmanship and the friendships created on and off the field,” he said. In 2016, the numbers exploded to over 30 girls turning out for Under 12’s, 14’s, 16’s and 18’s. “This year we have had girls from Under 14 and 16 represent the Sunshine Coast Falcons and the Sunshine Coast School Girls. We also have five girls playing in the Under 18’s with the Nambour team have won their way straight through to the Grand Final on Saturday, August 19 to be played at the Sunshine Coast stadium. Things are really heading in the right direction,” Tony added.

The Noosa Pirates are hoping to be a part of the continued to growth of girls rugby league on the coast. Any girls that are interested in playing are encouraged to get in contact with the club. Sign up fees for the girls are kept as cheap as possible and each player receives gear, two training sessions per week and any equipment needed. Tony went on to say that coaching is conducted by fully qualified and dedicated coaches with great support from the club itself. “There are representative pathways through both club and school competitions. Any parents that would like to get accreditation for a large range of duties, such as coaching qualifications, first aid officer, sports trainer and strapping etc., the club will fully support you,” Tony concluded. To help make all this happen the Noosa Pirates need support. One of the sponsors to get behind the girls is the Cooroy Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank. Last week, manager, Geoff Edwards visited the girls at training and remarked at the girls’ energy. “We started supporting the girls’ Noosa Pirates teams two seasons ago and the growth locally has been amazing. Tony, Glenn, Jaymie and all the girls are obviously having fun and that’s what it’s all about,” Geoff said. For more information, contact Jaymie on 0407 639 731. You are also more than welcome to come and visit the clubhouse at 57 Mary Street, Cooroy on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons to see the girls in action.
