Past, present, future - all time best!

Christmas in Cooroy kicked off with the lighting of the Studio Steel Christmas Tree Maple Street was packed either side with the biggest crowd to date to watch the Christmas in Cooroy Bendigo Bank Street Parade roll on by. As usual the floats were spectacular, with businesses going the extra mile to put on a great show. The giant hippie vibe of Wythes Real Estate took out the winning spot, closely followed by Mower and ATV Solutions who embraced this year’s entire theme of Past, Present and Future with a combo of Ned Kelly and the bushrangers through to Power Rangers.

Tadpoles still made the top three coming in a popular third. Free rides, games, Santa, fireworks , and a smorgasbord of food options kept the crowds happy. The ever popular ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ had everyone dancing the night away. The fabulous Danielle Taylor once again did a remarkable job as events coordinator and says this really is the best Christmas event anywhere. She credits an absolutely legendary team of volunteers with awesome support from sponsors for its success. See Xmas in Cooroy pics Pages 14/15

State Member for Nicklin Marty Hunt at the dangerous intersection at Myall and Elm Streets

State Member for Nicklin Marty Hunt MP is pleased to announce the notoriously dangerous Cooroy Intersections at Elm and Myall and Elm and Diamond Streets, may finally receive an upgrade in the near future. Mr Hunt said he has worked hard for the past year with The Department of Transport (TMR), Noosa Council, various community groups and concerned residents to deliver the best outcomes for Cooroy. “Thanks to TMR who gave me an undertaking to go to the community for consultation on a plan for the Cooroy intersections and providing advice regarding best options,” he said. Community feedback is sought about the two proposed future intersection upgrades. The preferred options by TMR would involve upgrading the current arrangements by introducing traffic signals. They have ruled out roundabouts as preferred options at this stage due to the significantly higher construction costs, impacts to neighbouring land and proposed safety benefits. Mr Hunt wants to know what the public think about the proposal and said community consultation is vitally important and submissions must be received no later than 17 December 2018. Follow his Facebook page martyhuntmp and go to www.cooroyintersections.com.au to register your interest and submit your feedback before any upgrades take place in Corooy.

He’s one of the most well know faces in the hinterland but after 40 years in the banking industry, Geoff Edwards has decided to retire. Since early 2013, Geoff has been involved in the management of the Cooroy and Pomona Community Bank branches of Bendigo Bank and has been unfaltering in his commitment to the hinterland and his customers. “I’ve had some great opportunities during my career in banking, but using my role to make a difference to community groups, clubs, organisations and schools in the hinterland has been the highlight,” Geoff shared. Geoff said it was the right time to retire and he’s very relaxed with his decision. “I’m not going anywhere and my plan is simple. I’m looking forward to more time at home and more time for the special things with my wife and family, and to play some more golf,” he added. “I have loved working with some amazing people in our team. Anyone who banks with Bendigo Bank knows who they are. The bank’s commitment to Noosa through the Cooroy, Pomona and Tewantin Community Bank branches continue to make a difference and I’m proud to have been part of that. “Our Community Bank branches were born from the dream of our communities wanting their own banks. The branch teams will continue to working closely with our communities as more locals realise that by banking with us the more we can give back, giving our communities a real say in their own future,” he said. Passionate about his work to his last working day, Geoff left us with this. “They say that your retirement actually means that you got promoted to one of the best roles in your life. I’m happy with that,” he concluded.

Over 2,000 people climbed the mountain to enjoy the spectacular views from the summit with an outlook to the West

across the Noosa hinterland and to the ocean on the Eastern side. “We were delighted with the numbers of visitors attending the Festival and the Club has donated $15,000 to Sunshine Butterflies, the disability support group based in Tewantin. In ad-

dition, $1,000 was given to the Cooroy SES who provided support on the day and $500 to both the Cooroy Memorial Hall and the Black Mountain Rural Fire brigade,” said Cooroy Rotary Club President, Warren O’Neill. “Members of the Rotary

Interact Club at the Noosa District High School received $500 for their assistance with the car parking. These young citizens allocated the funds to the Tewantin tennis club to go towards new lights and to the Noosa Touch Club Association towards new sporting gear for local teams.” “The Rotary Club of Cooroy was honoured to contribute $11,675.20 to the Rotary Drought Assistance on behalf of the people who supported our Helicopter Ball Drop at the Festival. This amount included additional donations received from residents at the Cooroy Rotary sausage sizzle outside our local IGA, donations of more than $1,000 from the residents of Palm Lake Resort and almost $2,500 from the customers and management of the Pomona Pub.” “The Rotary Club of Cooroy should like to thank

the 76 volunteers including members from the Rotary Club of Eumundi, The Cooroy Golf Club, Cooroy Memorial Hall, family and friends who assisted on the day and made the event such a success.” The Club should also like to thank Peter Lavin from Cooroy Mountain Spring Water/Wimmers who granted access to the Mountain and to McDermott Aviation for the helicopter that provided flights and the charity ball drop. Other sponsors include Madill Motor Group, Hinternoosa Real Estate, Greenwood Grove, Aaction Traffic, Mowers and ATV Cooroy, Raine and Horne Cooroy, the Noosa District Concert Band, Pineapple Crush Ukulele Band, Bush Poet Barry Beck and the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce without whose support we could not have run the event.

Business Award for Cooroy Congratulations to Cooroy Chamber of Commerce for winning the Small Business Festival & Events category at the Sunshine Coast Business Awards last month for the Australian Body Art Festival. Collecting the award on behalf of the Chamber, were Kerrie Bryant-Adams & Danielle Taylor from Firefly Solutions who have both worked tirelessly to bring the event to the success it is today. If you haven’t been to the event, put 6 & 7 April 2019 in your diary and make sure you are at Apex Park because the team have secured some substantial funding to ensure that the 2019 event with a theme of “Other Worlds”, will be bigger and better than ever. With $34,500 from the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, $12,000 from Queensland Events & Tourism’s QDEP grant and $15,353.78 from Queensland Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund, the event is off to a stellar start. Sponsorships are now open with some savvy businesses already securing sponsorships including Cooroy Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank, Wythes Real Estate, Eumundi & District Historical Association, Tourism Noosa, Regional Training Services Queensland, Firefly Solutions, RACV Noosa, Tomfoolery, Mehron Australia, Face Paints Australia, Looney Bin and Derivan. COOROY RAG Cooroy Pomona Lions Our November bookfest again raised over $1500 to go into our Community account. Lots of effort by the Lions’ building team went into building racks in our storage area to store the generous donations of books by all members of the community. What a great way to pass on books that have been of much joy and hopefully give another person the same amount of enjoyment without a large investment. Once again a big thank you. This month saw the final stage in assisting a long time Pomona resident, Scott McLeod. Many years ago an accident at the age of 18 saw him in a wheelchair. Scott and his wife have lived in Pomona since 2003. The Club first assisted Scott to acquire a new set of hand controls for his car that had been stolen. Following that the club came to his assistance in the form of an electric scooter allowing him to go to town without having to physically transfer in and out of the car four times. Unfortunately over the years his back vertebrae degenerated and last year collapsed causing him to require an operation. An operation and physio later it was evident he needed a hoist to get himself in and out of bed. Once again the Lions came to the rescue and arranged for the purchase of a gantry and sling. Scott can now get out of bed and get around again in his wheelchair. He is once again independent. “My wife and I are forever grateful for your assistance in obtaining the ceiling hoist to help us to be as independent as possible thus having a higher quality of life. The hoist has made life easier and there are days when I do not know how we would be able to cope without it. The service and commitment to the community by your members in helping their community and elsewhere has been outstanding. Without the support of Lions Club we would have been left in dire straits with no assistance from the Government to maintain our independence.” Our Eyewear Lions, Sue and Jo have been busy too, collecting old eye glasses for repatriation overseas to those less fortunate. What a great gift, to give someone the ability to see properly again. Drop off points for Pomona include Cooroora Family Health, Community House, H Art of Bali fashion and Pomona Family Health. The drop off points in Corooy include Let’s Talk Hair, Katie Rose op shop, Cooroy Drapery and Optometry in Cooroy. Well, how amazing was Christmas in Cooroy this year? Our wonderful community event just seems to get better every year. It’s the tenth year our Cooroy Community Bank branch has been a major sponsor and we love being part of it all. It’s just another way we continue give back to our community as you support us through our Cooroy, Pomona and Tewantin Bendigo Bank branches. Christmas is a wonderful time, spending time with family and friends and giving gifts to others. Many homes are bursting at the seams with food, family and friends. But Christmas can also be a stressful time for families. Especially given the ongoing economic climate means a lot of families may be unable to find those extra dollars to participate in the celebration of Christmas. One way to plan ahead for the extra financial pressure it brings is to open up a Christmas Club account with us. A Christmas Club account is typically an interest bearing passbook account with no or low fees, that you are able to deposit into during the year but can’t withdraw from until a set period. This set withdrawal period is usually November 1 to January 31, so you catch those post-Christmas sales. You can arrange a transfer from your savings account or even from your pay office into the Christmas Club account and that way it is like a forced savings. Set down a budget of how much you think you can put aside each pay day, it does not have to be large, but it does have to be a realistic amount because if you need to withdraw the funds a penalty fee will be applied to the account. Why not ask us about setting up a Christmas Club account and start early for next year’s celebrations? As many locals are now realising, we’re a full-

service bank and here for the long haul. We’re close, not closed! More importantly, it’s through our customers’ banking that we generate profits supporting our community - more than $700,000 so far. It’s why we want to give the hinterland a real say in its future and it’s why we believe successful customers and successful communities create a successful bank - in that order. So as you prepare for your Christmas, bank where the customer is relevant and connected to its community, and give us a try. If it’s about opening a Christmas Club account or would like to discuss any other banking matter, please contact our team on 5447 7131 (Cooroy) or 5485 1786 (Pomona) or email at simone.flavelle@bendigoadelaide.com.au.

COOROY RAG Noosa District Orchid & Foliage Society

Working for Noosa Communities The Noosa Society has recently conducted the AGM with a mix of past and new members being elected to the committee. The benefits of belonging to a club such as this are well documented, and include improved health and social well-being, community pride and environmental benefits through education of Australian native orchids. The club has a long-standing association with the Bush House at the Noosa Botanic Gardens in Cooroy. The Noosa Club supplies the pots and

media for the repotting of plants, which is done by some of our member volunteers. The club is a great way to make new friends who share a common interest. Orchids are one of the easiest plants to cultivate if the right genera are chosen. New members are always welcome; the next meeting is the second Saturday in February. Three-parts art exhibition, one-part performative experience, - FLOW - is the culmination of Doug Walker’s three-month residency onsite at the Butter Factory Art Centre. Liquid colour; expressions of freedom and restriction; light and dark, Doug’s practice

explores concepts of contrast. A push and pull between the light and the dark; liquid sheer and rough texture; freedom and expectation. A self-taught artist inspired towards colour and creation during his career as a house-painter, Doug began imagining brilliant coloured works on all the white walls he was painting. Possums in plain sight!

Time to get ready

Christmas in Cooroy was another massive day for the community, and thanks to the volunteers who decorated town, Cooroy looks spectacular! These green clad elves spirited around town in the early hours of the morning and weaved their magic in their Noosa Care Inc sponsored volunteer shirts. The fun continues on through December with the Cooroy Family Practice Shop Window Trail. As you go about your business in Cooroy, make sure you keep your eyes open for some hidden critters. Businesses throughout Cooroy have decorated their windows and you can vote on which is your favourite and be in the running for a $100 Cooroy Supa IGA

voucher. For some extra fun, follow the entire trail and find a specially decorated possum in each window. The shop window trail was launched at the official turning on of the lights on 30th November and will run for the month of December. You can get your entry form at most of the competing shops and submit your completed form at the Cooroy SUPA IGA in the big red post box. Christmas in Cooroy is hosted by the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Cooroy. This phenomenal free community festival would not be possible without the support of the many volunteers and businesses throughout Cooroy and the Noosa Hinterland.

A decade of dividends for Community Bank share holders There’s no question some economic challenges continue, but it’s a far different story for investors in four of the coast’s local Community Bank branches of Bendigo Bank. In fact, it’s a continuing celebration of a real home-grown Sunshine Coast success story as Bendigo Bank continue to feed into the prosperity of our community not from it. Nearly 800 shareholders from the Cooroy, Marcoola, Tewantin and Pomona Community Bank branches will now receive their tenth dividend in as many years. Rick Cooper, Chairman of Sunshine Coast Community Financial Services

Limited (SCCFSL), who own and operate the Cooroy, Marcoola, Tewantin and Pomona Community Bank branches, said shareholders will now each receive a share of the $83,649 total dividend, based on 5.0 cents per $1.00 share of 1,672,988 shares. The dividend, which is to be paid on December 21 will be fully franked. “Receiving another dividend payment is fantastic for company’s investors and a nice Christmas present,” Mr Cooper said. “This latest result is a culmination of a lot of hard work and local support from our communities. We believe it’s that community connection that sets us apart

SCCFSL directors with the cheque for shareholders to be paid in December

in the eyes of our customers and, as we continue to say, bank with us and everybody benefits. “The directors of SCCFSL decided the dividend is just reward to all the shareholders who initially funded the establishment of our branches. They’ve watched their development and business revenue has grown every year since our inception. It’s another great result for our shareholders and our board, branch managers and staff are very proud of the work we do in our communities. Without our share holders’ support our branches simply wouldn’t exist,” Mr. Cooper added. Cooroy and Pomona Community Bank branches senior manager, Simone Flavelle said the shareholders won’t be the only locals to benefit from the tenth dividend.

The company’s remaining profits are being channelled back into communities via a range of donations and sponsorships. As many locals are aware, these include support of Cooroy Memorial Hall and sponsorships of Christmas in Cooroy, Noosa Country Show, Pomona King of the Mountain and several community groups, organisations, sporting groups and schools. The total funds given back to the greater Noosa, Coolum and North Shore communities has now exceeded $2.1 million. “Our board will continue its program of community grants releasing further funds to assist with a wide range of projects. We’re really proud to be involved with a bank that’s giving locals a real say in their financial future,” Mrs. Flavelle said.

Gold Coast theatre director Nathan Schulz is making waves – radio waves that is – and is returning to the Noosa Museum with a back to the future style show that celebrates one of our grandparent’s favourite entertainments. Schulz, who is a familiar talent on the Gold Coast’s community theatrical scene, is whisking audiences back to the golden age of radio drama with The Radioplay Hour. “Listening to a radioplay is a ‘retro audio experience’ which aims to transport audiences to an age when radio was the heart of family life,” he said. “In this case, the actors perform the original radioplay scripts in front of a live audience, creating all the sound effects live.” Before the show kicks off, you will have the chance to tour the new exhibits at the Noosa Museum before Nathan and Team perform Charles Dickens most famous ghost story “A Christmas Carol” “When Charles Dickens presented this story to the world, almost a hundred years ago, he found an instant response in the hearts of people everywhere. People saw in it their favourite fictional chronicle of what Christmas is, and what Christmas means. “From first printing, reading or watching “A Christmas Carol” has become an unbroken the tradition each Christmas,” says Schulz. “So now under the Drama Merchant’s Imaginasium brand, my cast aims to

present and work with the Noosa Museum, in creating a unique Christmas experience in front of a radio, instead of a T.V., Phone or IPAD. The Radioplay Hour: A Christmas Carol will be performed at Noosa Museum, 29 Factory St, Pomona QLD 4568, Saturday 15th December at 2pm & 6pm. Schulz, who first began presenting this style of entertainment with the infamous radio broadcast of War of the Worlds and A Christmas Carol in 2016, says audience can savour the radio plays in two ways. “They can sit in front of our radio, which is on stage in front of the players, imagining they are in their living rooms back in the 1930s or ‘40s or watch the director, performers and sound effects team buzzing around in the studio, basically it is an audio book performed live” says Schulz. Other radio plays planned “A Christmas Carol” over the Christmas season and then into the New Year with a new production of the Jules Verne classic “Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea”. The Radioplay Hour will be performed at Noosa Museum, 29 Factory St, Pomona QLD 4568, Saturday 15th December at 2pm & 6pm. Ticket cost include Drinks & Nibbles and Tour of the Museum. Special Christmas Sconetime

Martin Duncan is looking forward to a Christmas Sconetime at the Hall

Sconetime in Cooroy Memorial Hall has developed a growing following and is a real treat for everyone who attends. Sconetime is also a wonderful opportunity for older people, along with their carers, companions and family to establish a regular monthly social event. The December Sconetime is extra special with a Christmas theme. Not only do you get to dine on scrumptious scones, hot from the oven with lashings of cream and jam but you also get entertained with carols from pianist Adam

Bishop. Cooroy Chamber of Commerce have also added an extra splash of Christmas by sponsoring lovely bon bons for the guests. Tickets are just $5 which are subsided by sponsors and can be booked with Sunshine Coast Foodie, Martin Duncan on 0473 902 261. The December Sconetime is on Tuesday 11th December at Cooroy Memorial Hall from 10am. A big thank you to Wythes Real Estate who are the sponsor for hall hire again this month.

dining & entertainment Having a ball at the Hall The Cooroy Black Tie Ball held on November 17 to raise money for a grand piano for the Cooroy Memorial Hall was an outstanding success with $4000 raised. Guests danced the night away to the fabulous 6piece band “Swing Central”. Since the event, a very grateful Hall Committee has announced that David Ballinger has donated his late partner’s (Michael Dransfield) grand piano to the Hall.

COOROY RAG

Healthy Harold loves visiting Cooroy years, Niki has traveled to more than 20 schools from Gympie to Coolum this year with more than 8,000 children accessing the program. Each session is presented by educators who receive specialised training in the areas of health and drug education. “Having the van means children in our region now have access to the Life Education program. In the younger grades, we aim to teach children about their body and how it works. The aim of our senior classes is to help students develop a sound understanding of their body and well-being so they understand how special and truly unique they are.”

GIFT FOR YOU

Niki Andrinopolous (left) is joined by Simone Flavelle (centre) and Sandra-Lynn Underhill with her Year 4 class outside the van last week

Healthy Harold the giraffe, who is synonymous with the Life Education van and program made his annual visit to Cooroy State School this week. Providing our kids with health and drug education, Life Education began 39 years ago and has helped more than five million young Australians make healthy and safe choices. The program teaches children ways to keep their bodies healthy and to equip them with the skills to make appropriate choices and a way of learning to stay secure in potentially unsafe situations. It remains a not-for-profit organisation, which operates in close partnership with our local schools and communities and relies on student fees and local community funding to meet costs and that’s where Bendigo Bank has helped to subsidize the program.

Through its sponsorship, the Cooroy and Pomona Bank branch of Bendigo Bank offsets the program costs that’s professionally designed and based on extensive research. Life Education educator, Niki Andrinopoulos said she loves welcoming our local school kids to the high-tech mobile classroom. “A lot of hard work went into raising the funds to buy our Life Education van and we can’t thank our sponsors enough for their ongoing support,” Niki said. “Bendigo Bank know the importance of the Life Ed program and as many know, continue to support the project. In fact, ongoing annual funding plus the majority of the purchase price of the van has come from our local Community Banks,”she said. A primary school teacher for more than 30

Christian College Flourish Program welcomed at Kabara As part of the FLOURISH Program at Noosa Christian College, on Thursday 15th November, the residents of Kabara Nursing Home in Cooroy visited the Noosa Christian College Year 3 students in their classroom, then enjoyed lunch with them afterwards. There was singing, dancing and questions asked about how school was when the elderly residents attended

many years ago. The Year 3 students learned how different it was to today. Mrs Angela Gray, the Year 3 Teacher had a number of old items to show, including an inkwell, wooden pencil case, old text books and a slate. Some of the Kabara residents even rode horses to school. “It was a lovely visit, enjoyed by all,” said Mrs Gray.

On Thursday 22nd November, the Year 3 students enjoyed a Christmas Party at Kabara Nursing home with the residents. The year 3 class took along morning tea, gifts and cards, decorated the Kabara Christmas tree, sang songs with the residents and served them morning tea. FLOURISH is a program that partners with Kabara and aims to encourage Year

3 students to develop skills which enables them to become more confident, resilient, caring and connected to the community. It links Noosa Christian College to the Cooroy community. The motto is Caring Connected Communities! “Students learn that they can use their strengths, talent, time and effort to serve others. And they have discovered that the little things make a big difference and that they can find great happiness in giving to others and serving the community,” said Mrs Gray. “Each fortnight the students board the bus and visit the residents. They sing together, read to the residents, play games and participate in activities that are designed to enhance students both socially and emotionally. The FLOURISH Program is aligned with the Australian Curriculum and assists in building confidence, social skills and self-identity, enabling students to create and maintain positive relationships and make a difference in the community. “Each visit, the students have a specific goal they implement, and during the off week they work towards these goals by re-

flecting on visits, identifying the needs of the residents, coming up with ideas that will help strengthen interactions. For example, greeting people when entering the room, participating in conversations, making sure each resident is included in activities, identifying needs and adjusting behaviour a c c o r d i n g l y . Intergenerational connection also provides many benefits for the Kabara residents and they look forward to the children’s visits. Kabara Diversional

Therapists welcome the program and are delighted with the response from the residents. “Our College believes that

our elderly are a community responsibility and we would encourage other schools to engage in a similar program.”

Tips to survive a hot summer Use a hydrating Moisturiser: To seal in the moisture, right after you step out of the shower, use some moisturiser on your skin, while your skin is still damp. Generously apply sunscreen lotion all over your body to protect yourself from the harmful ultraviolet radiations. Keep yourself hydrated: During summer, your body tends to lose a lot of water through sweat, so drink plenty of water throughout the day and keep yourself cool during the heat. Avoid Caffeine: Caffeinated drinks and beverages, such as coffee, tea, and energy drinks will dehydrate your body so try to stay away from caffeinated drinks and try to include more water. Wear Cotton Clothes: Cotton is the perfect fabric for your summer clothes. It is light, cooling fabric so it will prevent your body from over-heating and even if you do sweat, and it will absorb perspiration and keep you fresh. Don’t Eat Heavy Meals: Your diet during the summer is one of the main factors that will determine how fresh you can stay. Eating heavy meals can be too much on your digestive system. You

Page 18 - Cooroy Rag, December 5, 2018

may begin to feel lethargic and perhaps nauseous as your digestive system rebels. So, eating lighter meals during the hotter months – salads, soups, juices, fruit meals, lean meats are all wonderful, healthy summer food options. Get a Good Night’s Sleep: Heat can really wear you out. Generally you feel more tired in the summer months than during other seasons. What’s worse is that it can be very difficult to sleep in the summer because the heat can make you restless. A cold shower before bed or choosing to sleep in the coolest room can make a big difference. Take care of others: Visit or call elderly friends, neighbours or relatives at least once a day. Check they have water in the fridge and encourage them to drink it. You may like to take them to a shopping centre, library or cinema with air-conditioning. Children also need to be reminded to drink water, and babies, children or animals should never be left alone in a car, even if the air-conditioner is on. Ensure animals have water and plenty of shade if they are outside. Courtesy LiveLife Pharmacy

Fire Weather Warning Please be aware that there is a fire weather warning Level 4 for our Noosa area. You can visit Noosa Council's new Disaster Dashboard to keep up-to-date on weather warnings, being prepared for QLD weather and more. It’s a new, one-stop shop for reliable emergency information when disaster strikes. The website - disaster.noosa.qld.gov.au - provides emergency contacts, weather radars, warnings and flood maps, plus information about power outages, road closures and evacuation centres. Local Disaster Management Group Chair, Mayor Tony Wellington, said the days of looking at multiple websites were over. “The Dashboard brings together useful information from all of the agencies involved in disaster

management to help residents make quick but informed decisions during cyclones, floods, fires and other disasters,” the Mayor said. The Dashboard also provides easy access to the social media feeds of not only Council but agencies such as Queensland Police, Main Roads, SES and utilities such as Unitywater. All of this information helps to create a clearer picture of what is happening locally. In addition to visiting disaster.noosa.qld.gov.au, residents can access the Disaster Dashboard by clicking the link on the homepage of Council’s website. The new Dashboard will help Noosa prepare for weather disaster events and ultimately help to create a more resilient community.

sport U15’s lead the way at Cooroy-Eumundi cricket

COOROY RAG

It was the same story for 3A’s this weekend, as they let multiple chances slip by at Coolum. Losing the toss and asked to field first, Cooroy bowled well, but with little luck, restricting the run rate early on. Andrew Beveridge (3 for 52) and Peter Clark (3 for 64) got amongst the wickets, but it was those dropped catches that made the difference, enabling Coolum skipper Paul McNamarra to amass a superb 146. Dropped on 20, and a further 4 times, he made Cooroy pay, and led his side to a respectable 8 for 241 when bad light stopped play. Oh, what could have been had those catches been taken! But with a strong batting line up, all is not lost, and the boys will be confident in chasing the total down. 5th Grade were given a lesson in batting when they hosted Caboolture on Sel Bonnel Oval. Winning the toss and batting first, Caboolture hit 4 for 220 off their 40 overs. In reply, Cooroy were in trouble early until junior Ryan Christensen (25) and Darcey Crawford-Rickards (40) offered some resistance. But it was not enough, and Cooroy were dismissed for a disappointing 94 in reply. With the U13’s and U12 Green both having byes this week, it was up to the U15’s and U12 White to fly the flag for the juniors. The U15’s were the stand out of the whole weekend, when they dominated Nambour on the Sel Bonnel turf after winning the toss and electing to field first. Tight fielding and sharp catches (take note 3A’s!) built the presssure, combined with an outstanding bowling performance by Ryan Christensen (4 for 3), helped dismiss Nambour for 71 runs. Then, Cooroy openers Martin Kelly (71no) and Lachlan Harrison (72no) combined for an undefeated 162 run partnership. A superb team performance, and with the first innings already won, the boys will start fresh next Saturday in an attempt to force the outright win. U12 White were again not at their best in their home clash against Tewantin-Noosa Storm. In a low scoring encounter, Cooroy could only manage a disappointing 3 for 78 off their 30 overs mainly due to some good, tight bowling. Reilly Carroll again in the runs with a classy 21no. In reply, Cooroy also bowled well but with no luck, as TNT batted solidly to 2 for 90 off their 30 overs. The boys have a bye this weekend, which may just recharge those batteries and get them back to their winning ways!
